Abstract: Let $\mathcal{S}$ be a finite thick generalized quadrangle, and suppose that $G$ is an automorphism group of $\mathcal{S}$. If $G$ acts primitively on both the points and lines of $\mathcal{S}$, then it is known that $G$ must be almost simple. In this paper, we show that if the socle of $G$ is $\mathrm{PSL}(2,q)$ with $q\geq4$, then $q=9$ and $\mathcal{S}$ is the unique generalized quadrangle of order $2$.

Abstract:Let 𝒮 be a finite thick generalized quadrangle, and suppose that G is an automorphism group of 𝒮 . Abstract:Let $\Gamma$ be a cocompact, oriented Fuchsian group which is not on an explicit finite list of possible exceptions and $q$ a sufficiently large prime power not divisible by the order of any non-trivial torsion element of $\Gamma$. Then $|\mathrm{Hom}(\Gamma,\mathrm{GL}_n(q))|\sim c_{q,n} q^{(1-\chi(\Gamma))n^2}$, where $c_{q,n}$ is periodic in $n$. As a function of $q$, $c_{q,n}$ can be expressed as a Puiseux series in $1/q$ whose coefficients are periodic in $n$ and $q$. Moreover, this series is essentially the $q$-expansion of a meromorphic modular form of half-integral weight.

On a refined local converse theorem for SO(4)

Abstract:Recently, Hazeltine-Liu, and independently Haan-Kim-Kwon, proved a local converse theorem for $\mathrm{SO}_{2n}(F)$ over a $p$-adic field $F$, which says that, up to an outer automorphism of $\mathrm{SO}_{2n}(F)$, an irreducible generic representation of $\mathrm{SO}_{2n}(F)$ is uniquely determined by its twisted gamma factors by generic representations of $\mathrm{GL}_k(F)$ for $k=1,\dots,n$. It is desirable to remove the ``up to an outer automorphism" part in the above theorem using more twisted gamma factors, but this seems a hard problem. In this paper, we provide a solution to this problem for the group $\mathrm{SO}_4(F)$, namely, we show that a generic supercuspidal representation $\pi$ of $\mathrm{SO}_4(F)$ is uniquely determined by its $\mathrm{GL}_1$, $\mathrm{GL}_2$ twisted local gamma factors and a twisted exterior square local gamma factor of $\pi$.

On Character Variety of Anosov Representations

Abstract:Let $\Gamma$ be the free group $F_k$ of $k$ generators, $k \geq 2$, resp. the fundamental group $\pi_1(\Sigma_g)$ of a closed, connnected, orientatble surface of genus $g \geq 2$. We show that the charater variety of irreducible, resp. Zariski dense, Anosov representations of $\Gamma$ into $\SL(n, \C)$ is a complex manifold of (complex) dimension $(k-1)(n^2-1)$, resp. $(2g-2) (n^2-1)$. For $\Gamma=\pi_1(\Sigma_g)$, we also show that these character varieties are holomorphic symplectic manifolds.

Abstract:Let G be one of the classical Lie groups GL(n+1)(R), GL(n+1)(C), U(p, q + 1), O(p, q + 1), On+1(C), SO(p, q + 1), SOn+1(C), and let G' be respectively the subgroup GL(n)(R), GL(n)(C), U(p, q), O(p, q), O-n(C), SO(p, q), SO (C), embedded in G in the standard way. We show that every irreducible Casselman-Wallach representation of G' occurs with multiplicity at most one in every irreducible Casselman-Wallach representation of G. Similar results are proved for the Jacobi groups GL(n)(R) (sic) H2n+1(R), GL(n)(C) (sic) H2n+1 (C), U(p, q) (sic) H2p+2q+1(R), Sp(2n)(R) (sic) H2n+1(R), Sp(2n)(C) (sic) H2n+1 (C) with their respective subgroups GL(n)(R), GL(n)(C), U(p, q), Sp(2n)(R), and SP2n(C).

Abstract:In this paper we study quasi-homogeneous affine algebraic varieties, that is, varieties obtained as closures of orbits of suitable group representations. We also discuss one interesting case that has links with the Orthogonal Grassmannian OGr(5,10). The main aim is to write the tangent bundle and the canonical class of quasi-homogeneous affine algebraic varieties in terms of group representations.

Abstract:Let $mathbf G$ be a complex orthogonal or complex symplectic group, and let $G$ be a real form of $mathbf G$, namely $G$ is a real orthogonal group, a real symplectic group, a quaternionic orthogonal group, or a quaternionic symplectic group. For a fixed parity $mathbb pin mathbb Z/2mathbb Z$, we define a set $mathrm{Nil}^{mathbb p}_{mathbf G}(mathfrak g)$ of nilpotent $mathbf G$-orbits $mathfrak g$ (the Lie algebra of $mathbf G$). When $mathbb p$ is the parity of the dimension of the standard module of $mathbf G$, this is the set of the stably trivial special nilpotent orbits, which includes all rigid special nilpotent orbits. For each $mathcal O in mathrm{Nil}^{mathbb p}_{mathbf G}(mathfrak g)$, we construct all unipotent representations of $G$ (or its metaplectic cover when $G$ is a real symplectic group and $mathbb p$ is odd) attached to $mathcal O$ via the method of theta lifting and show particular that they are unitary.
Connected components of the space of triples of transverse partial flags in $\mathrm{SO}_0(p,q)$ and Anosov representations

Abstract:We count the number of connected components in the space of triples of transverse flags in any flag manifold of $\mathrm{SO}_0(p,q)$. We compute the effect the involution of the unipotent radical has on those components and deduce that for certain parabolic subgroups $P_{\Theta}$, any $P_{\Theta}$-Anosov subgroup is virtually isomorphic to either a surface group of a free group. We give examples of Anosov subgroups which are neither free nor surface groups for some sets of roots which do not fall under the previous results. As a consequence of the methods developed here, we get an explicit algorithm based on computation of minors to check if a unipotent matrix in $\mathrm{SO}_0(p,q)$ belong to the $\Theta$-positive semigroup $U_\Theta^{>0}$ when $p\neq q$.

Abstract:Let $S$ be a punctured surface of negative Euler characteristic. We show that given a generic representation $\rho:\pi_1(S) \rightarrow \mathrm{PSL}_n(\mathbb{C})$, there exists a positive representation $\rho_0:\pi_1(S) \rightarrow \mathrm{PSL}_n(\mathbb{R})$ that dominates $\rho$ in the Hilbert length spectrum as well as in the translation length spectrum, for the translation length in the symmetric space $\mathbb{X}_n= \mathrm{PSL}_n(\mathbb{C})/\mathrm{PSU}(n)$. Moreover, the $\rho_0$-lengths of peripheral curves remain unchanged. The dominating representation $\rho_0$ is explicitly described via Fock-Goncharov coordinates. Our methods are linear-algebraic, and involve weight matrices of weighted planar networks.

Almost-fuchsian structures on disk bundles over a surface

Abstract:Considering an integer $d>0$, we show the existence of convex-cocompactrepresentations of surface groups into SO(4,1) admitting an embedded minimal map withcurvatures in $(-1,1)$ and whose associated hyperbolic 4-manifolds are disk bundles of degreed over the surface, provided the genus $g$ of the surface is large enough. We also show that we can realize these representations as complex variation of Hodge structures. This gives examples of quasicircles in $\mathbb{S}^3$ bounding superminimal disks in $\mathbb{H}^4$ of arbitrarily small second fundamental form. Those are examples of generalized almost-Fuchsian representations which are not deformations of Fuchsian representations.

Abstract:For a finite group $G$, the representation dimension is the smallest integer realizable as the degree of a complex faithful representation of $G$. In this article, we compute representation dimension for some $p$-groups, their direct products, and groups with certain conditions on nonlinear irreducible characters. We also make similar computations for the smallest integer realizable as the degree of an irreducible complex faithful representation of $G$, if one exists. In the appendix, we present GAP codes to compute these numbers.

Abstract:In this paper, we study nonmaximal representations of surface groups in PU(2,1). We show the existence in genus large enough, of convex-cocompact representations of nonmaximal Toledo invariant admitting a unique equivariant minimal surface, which is holomorphic and of second fundamental form arbitrarily small. These examples can be obtained for any Toledo invariant of the form 2-2g+(2/3)d, provided g is large compared to d. When d is not divisible by 3, this yields examples of convex-cocompact representations in PU(2,1) which do not lift to SU(2,1).

Abstract:We consider discrete subgroups of the group of orientation preserving isometries of the $m$-dimensional hyperbolic space, whose limit set is a $(m-1)$-dimensional real sphere, acting on the $n$-dimensional complex projective space for $n\geq m$, via an embedding from the group of orientation preserving isometries of the $m$-dimensional hyperbolic space to the group of holomorphic isometries of the $n$-dimensional complex hyperbolic space. We describe the Kulkarni limit set of any of these subgroups under the embedding as a real semi-algebraic set. Also, we show that the Kulkarni region of discontinuity can only have one or three connected components. We use the Sylvester's law of inertia when $n=m$. In the other cases, we use some suitable projections of the the $n$-dimensional complex projective space to the $m$-dimensional complex projective space.

Abstract:Let $F$ be a totally real field in which $p$ is unramified and $B$ be a quaternion algebra which splits at at most one infinite place. Let $\overline{r}:\mathrm{Gal}(\overline{F}/F)\to \mathrm{GL}_2(\overline{\mathbb{F}}_p)$ be a modular Galois representation which satisfies the Taylor-Wiles hypotheses. Assume that for some fixed place $v|p$, $B$ ramifies at $v$ and $F_v$ is isomorphic to $ \mathbb{Q}_p$ and $\overline{r}$ is generic at $v$. We prove that the admissible smooth representations of the quaternion algebra over $\mathbb{Q}_p$ coming from mod $p$ cohomology of Shimura varieties associated to $B$ have Gelfand-Kirillov dimension $1$. As an application we prove that the degree two Scholze's functor vanishes on supersingular representations of $\mathrm{GL}_2(\mathbb{Q}_p)$. We also prove some finer structure theorem about the image of Scholze's functor in the reducible case.

Abstract:Given an irreducible representation of $SL_2(F_q)$ for an odd prime $q\geq 5$, we find the dimension of the space of cusp forms with respect to the full modular group taking values in the representation space. The dimension equals the multiplicity of the representation in the space of classical cusp forms with respect to the principal congruence subgroup of level $q$.

Abstract:This work provides an effective algorithm for distinguishing finite quotients between two non-isomorphic finitely generated Fuchsian groups $\Gamma$ and $\Lambda$. It will suffice to take a finite quotient which is abelian, dihedral, a subgroup of $\mathrm{PSL}(2,\mathbf{F}_q)$, or an abelian extension of one of these 3. We will develop an approach for creating group extensions upon a shared finite quotient of $\Gamma$ and $\Lambda$ which between them have differing degrees of smoothness. Regarding the order of a finite quotient that distinguishes between $\Gamma$ and $\Lambda$, we establish an upperbound as a function of the genera, the number of punctures, and the cone orders arising in $\Gamma$ and $\Lambda$.

Abstract:We obtain lower bounds for the dimension of fixed loci of abelian $p$-groups acting on smooth projective varieties. Those arise from modulo p Chern numbers, and are shown to be optimal. The bounds are expressed in a natural way by introducing an appropriate filtration on the modulo $p$ cobordism ring. They are obtained using equivariant localization methods, via the concentration theorem, and by a technique of "partition dividing".
