Abstract:A product of compact normal spaces is normal; the product of a countably infinite collection of non-trivial spaces is normal if and only if it is countably paracompact and each of its finite sub-products is normal; if all powers of a space X are normal then X is compact: provided in each case that the spaces involved are T1. Here I examine the situation for infinite products not required to be T1 (or regular), extending or generalizing each of these facts. In addition, I prove some related results, give a number of examples, explore some alternative proofs, and close with some speculation regarding potential applications of these findings to category theory and lattice theory.

Abstract:We study properties of Cartesian products of digital images for which adjacencies based on the normal product adjacency are used. We show that the use of such adjacencies lets us obtain many "product properties" for which the analogous statement is either unknown or invalid if, instead, we were to use $c_u$-adjacencies.

Abstract:We consider the relationship between normality and semi-proximality. We give a consistent example of a first countable locally compact Dowker space that is not semi-proximal, and two ZFC examples of semi-proximal non-normal spaces. This answers a question of Nyikos. One of the examples is a subspace of $(\omega+1) \times \omega_1$. In contrast, we show that every normal subspace of a finite power of $\omega_1$ is semi-proximal.

Abstract:For a surjective self-morphism on a projective variety defined over a number field, we study the preimages question, which asks if the set of rational points on the iterated preimages of an invariant closed subscheme eventually stabilize. We prove the answer is positive for self-morphisms on $\mathbb{P}^1 \times \mathbb{P}^1$. We also prove that the answer is positive even if we allow finite extension of the number field by a bounded degree if the morphism is étale or the invariant subscheme is $0$-dimensional. We prove certain uniformity of the stabilization for self-morphisms on abelian varieties. When the subscheme is not invariant, we provide counterexamples and a result in a positive direction for products of polynomial maps on $\mathbb{P}^1 \times \mathbb{P}^1$.

Abstract:We give two different proofs of the fact that non-oblivious selection via regular group sets preserves normality. Non-oblivious here means that whether or not a symbol is selected can depend on the symbol itself. One proof relies on the incompressibility of normal sequences, the other on the use of augmented dynamical systems.

Essential Normality of Cyclic Submodule Generated by any Polynomial

Abstract:In \cite{GW} Guo and the second author showed that the closure $[I]$ in the Drury-Arveson space of a homogeneous principal ideal $I$ in $\mathbb{C}[z_1,...,z_n]$ is essentially normal. The proof exploited combinatorial relations between the weights of the shift operators on the space. One can show that their result extends to the Bergman space for the ball $\mathbb{B}_n$ and closely related spaces, but thus far no one has been able to extend the result to other ideals in pursuit of the conjecture of Arveson \cite{Ar2}. In this note, the authors use techniques from harmonic analysis involving the radial derivative and the complex tangential derivative \cite{Gr} to extend the result to the closure of any principal polynomial ideal in the Bergman space. In particular, the commutators and cross-commutators of the restrictions of the multiplication operators are shown to be in the Schatten $p $-class for $p>n$. The same is true for polynomials with vector-valued coefficients. Moreover, the maximal ideal space $X_I$ of the resulting $C^\ast$-algebra for the quotient module is shown to be contained in $Z(I)\cap \partial\mathbb{B}_n$, where $Z(I)$ is the zero variety for $I$, and to contain all points in $\partial\mathbb{B}_n$ that are limit points of $Z(I)\cap \mathbb{B}_n$. As a consequence, $X_I=Z(I)\cap \partial\mathbb{B}_n$ in the case that $I$ is quasi-homogeneous. Finally, the techniques introduced enable one to study a certain class of weight Bergman spaces on the ball.
Irreducibility criteria for the preimages of a transverse variety under endomorphisms of products of elliptic curves

Abstract:We provide two different proofs of an irreducibility criterion for the preimages of a transverse subvariety of a product of elliptic curves under a diagonal endomorphism of sufficiently large degree.For curves, we present an arithmetic proof of the aforementioned irreducibility result, which enlightens connections to methods used in the context of the Torsion Anomalous Conjecture. On the other hand, we generalize the result for higher dimensional varieties using a more geometric approach. Finally, we give some applications of these results. More precisely, we establish the irreducibility of some explicit families of polynomials, we provide new estimates for the normalized heights of certain intersections and images, and we give new lower bounds for the essential minima of images.

Abstract:The notion of normal products, a generalization of Wick products, is derived with respect to BPHZ renormalization formulated entirely in configuration space. Inserted into time-ordered products, normal products admit the limit of coinciding field operators, which constitute the product. The derivation requires the introduction of Zimmermann identities, which relate field monomials or renormalization parts with differing subtraction degree. Furthermore, we calculate the action of wave operators on elementary fields inserted into time-ordered products, exploiting the properties of normal products.

On Normality of Projective Hypersurfaces with an Additive Action

Abstract:We study projective hypersurfaces $X$ admitting an induced additive action, i.e., an effective action ${\mathbb G_a^m\times X\to X}$ of the vector group $\mathbb G_a^m$ with an open orbit that can be extended to an action on the ambient projective space. A criterion for normality of such a hypersurface $X$ is given. Also, we prove that for any projective hypersurface $Z$ there exists a hypersurface $X$ with an induced additive action such that the complement to the open $\mathbb G_a^m$-orbit in $X$ is a projective cone over $Z$. We introduce a construction that produces non-degenerate hypersurfaces with induced additive action from Young diagrams and study the properties of the hypersurfaces obtained in this way.

Abstract:In this paper, we define the asymptotic stable division property for submodules of the Bergman module. We show that under a mild condition, a submodule with the asymptotic stable division property is p-essentially normal for all p>n. A new technique is developed to show that certain submodules have the asymptotic stable division property. This leads to a unified proof of most known results on essential normality of submodules as well as new results. In particular, we show that an ideal defines a p-essentially normal submodule of the Bergman module, for all p>n, if its associated primary ideals are powers of prime ideals whose zero loci satisfy standard regularity conditions near the sphere.

Abstract:We show that every finite group $T$ is isomorphic to a normalizer quotient $N_{S_n}(H)/H$ for some $n$ and a subgroup $H\leq S_n$. We show that this holds for all large enough $n\ge n_0(T)$ and also with $S_n$ replaced by $A_n$. The two main ingredients in the proof are a recent construction due to Cornulier and Sambale of a finite group $G$ with $\mathrm{Out}(G)\cong T$ (for any given finite group $T$) and the determination of the normalizer in $\mathrm{Sym(G)}$ of the inner holomorph $\mathrm{InHol}(G)\leq\mathrm{Sym}(G)$ for any centerless indecomposable finite group $G$, which may be of independent interest.

Abstract:In this very short note we give an elementary characteristic free proof of the result claimed in the title (see Theorem 1.2 for a more precise formulation), generalizing a recent result proved for Ulrich bundles over the complex field by V. Benedetti, P. Montero, Y. Prieto Montañez, S. Troncoso. Moreover, we also give a similar result about the twists of the cotangent bundle and make some comments about the possibility to obtain an analogous result for twists of the tangent bundle.
