Abstract:We give a new CR invariant treatment of the bigraded Rumin complex and related cohomology groups via differential forms. A key benefit is the identification of balanced $A_\infty$-structures on the Rumin and bigraded Rumin complexes. We also prove related Hodge decomposition theorems. Among many applications, we give a sharp upper bound on the dimension of the Kohn--Rossi groups $H^{0,q}(M^{2n+1})$, $1\leq q\leq n-1$, of a closed strictly pseudoconvex manifold with a contact form of nonnegative pseudohermitian Ricci curvature; we prove a sharp CR analogue of the Fr\"olicher inequalities in terms of the second page of a natural spectral sequence; we give new proofs of selected topological properties of closed Sasakian manifolds; and we generalize the Lee class $\mathcal{L}\in H^1(M;\mathscr{P})$ -- whose vanishing is necessary and sufficient for the existence of a pseudo-Einstein contact form -- to all nondegenerate orientable CR manifolds.

Abstract:For later use in subsequent upcoming <a class="link-internal link-http" href="http://arxiv.org">arxiv.org</a> prepublications, basic foundational material on local, smooth or real analytic, CR-generic submanifolds of complex Euclidean spaces is developed from scratch, with strong emphasis on the interplay between extrinsic and intrinsic aspects, a constructive option that commands to perform computational syntheses in coordinates. Mainly, one finds a self-contained proof of the existence of precisely six general classes: I, II, III-1, III-2, IV-1, IV-2 of nondegenerate general CR manifolds up to dimension 5, class III-2 being unobserved untill now.

Deformations of cohesive modules on compact complex manifolds

Abstract:Cohesive modules give a dg-enhancement of the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on a complex manifold via superconnections. In this paper we discuss the deformation theory of cohesive modules on compact complex manifolds. This generalizes the deformation theory of holomorphic vector bundles and coherent sheaves. We also develop the theory of Kuranishi maps and obstructions of deformations of cohesive modules and give some examples of unobstructed deformations.

Abstract:Kashiwara, Polesello, Schapira and D'Agnolo defined canonical deformation quantizations of a holomorphic symplectic manifold and a holomorphic Lagrangian submanifold equipped with an orientation data. The goal of this paper is to use deformation quantization modules to construct a Fukaya-like category of holomorphic Lagrangians, resolving a conjecture of Joyce. Our main result describes the RHom complex between two such deformation quantization modules associated to a pair of Lagrangian submanifolds in terms of the derived geometry of the Lagrangian intersection. Namely, we identify the RHom complex with the DT sheaf associated to the d-critical structure on the Lagrangian intersection. Via a Riemann-Hilbert correspondence this describes the RHom complex in the category of microsheaves of sheaf quantizations of conic holomorphic Lagrangians.

Abstract:The compact complex manifolds considered in this article are principal torus bundles over a torus. We consider the Kodaira Spencer map of the complete Appell Humbert family (introduced by the first author in Part I) and are able to show that we obtain in this way a connected component of the space of complex structures each time that the base dimension is two, the fibre dimension is one, and a suitable topological condition is verified.

Abstract:An explicit classification of simply connected compact homogeneous CR manifolds G/L of codimension one, with non-degenerate Levi form, is given. There are three classes of such manifolds: a) the standard CR homogeneous manifolds which are homogeneous S^1-bundles over a flag manifold F, with CR structure induced by an invariant complex structure on F; b) the Morimoto-Nagano spaces, i.e. sphere bundles $S(N)\subset TN$ of a compact rank one symmetric space N = G/H, with the CR structure induced by the natural complex structure of $TN = G^\C/H^\C$; c) the following manifolds: $SU_n/T^1\cdot SU_{n-2}$, $SU_p\times SU_q/T^1 \cdot U_{p-2}\cdot U_{q-2}$, $SU_n/T^1\cdot SU_2\cdot SU_2\cdot SU_{n-4}$, $SO_{10}/T^1\cdot SO_6$, $E_6/T^1\cdot SO_8$; these manifolds admit canonical holomorphic fibrations over a flag manifold (F,J_F) with typical fiber S(S^k), where k = 2, 3, 5, 7 or 9, respectively; the CR structure is determined by the invariant complex structure J_F on F and by an invariant CR structure on the typical fiber, depending on one complex parameter.

Derived deformation theory of crepant curves

Abstract:This paper determines the full derived deformation theory of certain smooth rational curves C in Calabi-Yau 3-folds, by determining all higher A_\infty-products in its controlling DG-algebra. This geometric setup includes very general cases where C does not contract, cases where the curve neighbourhood is not rational, all known simple smooth 3-fold flops, and all known divisorial contractions to curves. As a corollary, it is shown that the noncommutative deformation theory of C can be described as a superpotential algebra derived from what we call free necklace polynomials, which are elements in the free algebra obtained via a closed formula from combinatorial gluing data. The description of these polynomials, together with the above results, establishes a suitably interpreted string theory prediction due to Ferrari, Aspinwall-Katz and Curto-Morrison. Perhaps most significantly, the main results give both the language and evidence to finally formulate new contractibility conjectures for rational curves in CY 3-folds, which lift Artin's celebrated results from surfaces.

Abstract:The trinions T N are a class of 5d = 1 superconformal field theories (SCFTs) realized as M-theory on C 3 /Z N × Z N . We apply to T N , as well as closely-related SCFTs that are obtained by mass deformations, a multitude of recently developed approaches to studying 5d SCFTs and their IR gauge theory descriptions. Thereby we provide a complete picture of the theories both on the Coulomb branch and Higgs branch, from various geometric points of view — toric and gluing of compact surfaces as well as combined fiber diagrams — to magnetic quivers and Hasse diagrams.

Deformations and embeddings of three-dimensional strictly pseudoconvex CR manifolds

Abstract:Abstract deformations of the CR structure of a compact strictly pseudoconvex hypersurface $M$ in $\mathbb{C}^2$ are encoded by complex functions on $M$. In sharp contrast with the higher dimensional case, the natural integrability condition for $3$-dimensional CR structures is vacuous, and generic deformations of a compact strictly pseudoconvex hypersurface $M\subseteq \mathbb{C}^2$ are not embeddable even in $\mathbb{C}^N$ for any $N$. A fundamental (and difficult) problem is to characterize when a complex function on $M \subseteq \mathbb{C}^2$ gives rise to an actual deformation of $M$ inside $\mathbb{C}^2$. In this paper we study the embeddability of families of deformations of a given embedded CR $3$-manifold, and the structure of the space of embeddable CR structures on $S^3$. We show that the space of embeddable deformations of the standard CR $3$-sphere is a Frechet submanifold of $C^{\infty}(S^3,\mathbb{C})$ near the origin. We establish a modified version of the Cheng-Lee slice theorem in which we are able to characterize precisely the embeddable deformations in the slice (in terms of spherical harmonics). We also introduce a canonical family of embeddable deformations and corresponding embeddings starting with any infinitesimally embeddable deformation of the unit sphere in $\mathbb{C}^2$.

Abstract:Modified $r$-matrices are solutions of the modified classical Yang-Baxter equation, introduced by Semenov-Tian-Shansky, and play important roles in mathematical physics. In this paper, first we introduce a cohomology theory for modified $r$-matrices. Then we study three kinds of deformations of modified $r$-matrices using the established cohomology theory, including algebraic deformations, geometric deformations and linear deformations. We give the differential graded Lie algebra that governs algebraic deformations of modified $r$-matrices. For geometric deformations, we prove the rigidity theorem and study when is a neighborhood of a modified $r$-matrix smooth in the space of all modified $r$-matrix structures. In the study of trivial linear deformations, we introduce the notion of a Nijenhuis element for a modified $r$-matrix. Finally, applications are given to study deformations of complement of the diagonal Lie algebra and compatible Poisson structures.

Abstract:We show that the vanishing of the higher dimensional homology groups of a manifold ensures that every almost CR structure of codimension $k$ may be homotoped to a CR structure. This result is proved by adapting a method due to Haefliger used to study foliations (and previously applied to study the relation between almost complex and complex structures on manifolds) to the case of (almost) CR structures on open manifolds.

Abstract:Let X-1 and X-2 be two compact strongly pseudoconvex CR manifolds of dimension 2n - 1 >= 5 which are boundaries of complex varieties V-1 and V-2 with only isolated normal singularities in C-N1 and C-N2, respectively. We show that any nonconstant CR morphism from X-1 to X-2 can be extended to a finite holomorphic covering map from V-1 to V-2 in the case where V-2 has only isolated complete intersection singularities. In particular, there is no nonconstant CR morphism between the links of two isolated complete intersection singularities with different embedding codimensions. Finally, using Kohn-Rossi cohomology, we obtain some sufficient conditions for the nonexistence of CR morphisms from X-1 to X-2.

Abstract:Given a contact manifold M# together with a transversal infinitesimal automorphism ξ, we show that any local leaf space M for the foliation determined by ξ naturally carries a conformally symplectic (cs-) structure. Then we show that the Rumin complex on M# descends to a complex of differential operators on M, whose cohomology can be computed. Applying this construction locally, one obtains a complex intrinsically associated with any manifold endowed with a cs-structure, which recovers the generalization of the so-called Rumin–Seshadri complex to the conformally symplectic setting. The cohomology of this more general complex can be computed using the push-down construction.

Abstract:We study deformations of certain crepant resolutions of isolated rational Gorenstein singularities. After a general discussion of the deformation theory, we specialize to dimension three and consider examples which are good (log) resolutions as well as the case of small resolutions. We obtain some partial results on the classification of canonical threefold singularities that admit good crepant resolutions. Finally, we study a non-crepant example, the blowup of a small resolution whose exceptional set is a smooth curve.

Abstract:We determine a 2-codimensional CR-structure on the slit tangent bundle $T_0M$ of a Finsler manifold $(M, F)$ by imposing a condition regarding the almost complex structure $\Psi$ associated to $F$ when restricted to the structural distribution of a framed $f$-structure. This condition is satisfied when $(M, F)$ is of scalar flag curvature (particularly flat) and in the Riemannian case $(M, g)$ this last condition means that $g$ is of constant curvature. This CR-structure is finally generalized by using one positive number but under more difficult conditions.

Abstract:It was known that the U$(N)^4$ super Chern-Simons matrix model describing the worldvolume theory of D3-branes with two NS5-branes and two $(1,k)$5-branes in IIB brane configuration (dual to M2-branes after taking the T-duality and the M-theory lift) corresponds to the $D_5$ quantum curve. For deformations of these two objects, on one hand the super Chern-Simons matrix model has three degrees of freedom (of relative rank deformations interpreted as fractional branes in brane configurations), while on the other hand the $D_5$ curve has five degrees of freedom (characterized by point configurations of asymptotic values). To identify the three-dimensional parameter space of brane configurations in the five-dimensional space of point configurations, we propose the necessity to cut the compact T-duality circle (or the circular quiver diagram) open, which is similar to the idea of "fixing a reference frame" or "fixing a local chart". Since the parameter space of curves enjoys the $D_5$ Weyl group beautifully, we are naturally led to conjecture that M2-branes are not only deformed by fractional branes but more obscure geometrical backgrounds.

Deformation maps of quasi-twilled Lie algebras

Abstract:In this paper, we provide a unified approach to study the cohomology theories and deformation theories of various types of operators in the category of Lie algebras, including modified $r$-matrices, crossed homomorphisms, derivations, homomorphisms, relative Rota-Baxter operators, twisted Rota-Baxter operators, Reynolds operators and deformation maps of matched pairs of Lie algebras. The main ingredients are quasi-twilled Lie algebras. We introduce two types of deformation maps of a quasi-twilled Lie algebra. Deformation maps of type I unify modified $r$-matrices, crossed homomorphisms, derivations and homomorphisms between Lie algebras, while deformation maps of type II unify relative Rota-Baxter operators, twisted Rota-Baxter operators, Reynolds operators and deformation maps of matched pairs of Lie algebras. We further give the controlling algebras and cohomologies of these two types of deformation maps, which not only recover the existing results for crossed homomorphisms, derivations, homomorphisms, relative Rota-Baxter operators, twisted Rota-Baxter operators and Reynolds operators, but also leads to some new results which are unable to solve before, e.g. the controlling algebras and cohomologies of modified $r$-matrices and deformation maps of matched pairs of Lie algebras.
