Abstract:Since industrial processes cause uncontrolled CO2 emissions, resulting in global warming and acidification of the oceans, different strategies have been used to directly absorb CO2 from different sources of effluent. The most common method of solving this problem is carbon sequestration (CCS); however, due to the problems arising from this approach, researchers are trying to produce dual-function materials (DFMs) that effectively absorb CO2 and turn it into valuable products. In this regard, nanostructured alkaline-earth metal oxide adsorbents were employed for dynamic and static adsorption of CO2. Here, CuAl2O4 nanoplates showed high CO2 uptake capacity with extremely fast kinetics. Owing to the CuAl2O4 nanoplate morphology, they produce a satisfactory outer layer for CO2 uptake at every metal-site. The CuAl2O4 nanoplate morphology resulted in systematic CO2 emission to guarantee reaction with the whole sheet and prepare rapid CO2 adsorption kinetics.
