Abstract:The main purpose of this paper is to introduce an abstract fuzzy economy model with differential asymmetric information and a measure space of agents. It generalizes a previous model proposed by the author in 2009. The applications concern the fuzzy equilibrium existence and the existence of the solutions for two types of random quasi-variational inequalities. Furthermore, the paper presents random fixed point theorems with random fuzzy mappings, extensions of the ones with random data. Our results either generalize or improve corresponding ones present in literature. They consider the Bochner integrability setting, a measure space of indices and use random fuzzy mappings, which describe the uncertainties.

Abstract:We mainly study the existence, structural stability and robustness of fuzzy slightly altruistic equilibria for a class of generalized multiobjective fuzzy games which are expressed as . Firstly, we introduce the concept of fuzzy slightly altruistic equilibrium and prove the existence of equilibrium for the by Fan–Glicksberg fixed point theorem. Secondly, the connections between and bounded rationality are discussed by an abstract rationality functions. Moreover, we construct the problem space of which is represented by and show that most are structurally stable and robust to -equilibrium on the meaning of Baire category. These results are new and extend some existing results in recent literature.

Abstract:Distributional economies are defined by a probability distribution in the space of characteristics where the commodity space is an ordered separable Banach space. We characterize the continuity of the equilibrium correspondence and an associated stability concept which allows us to give a positive answer to an open question about the continuity of the Walras correspondence in infinite-dimensional spaces. As a byproduct, we study a stability concept where differentiability assumptions are not required, as is usual in the literature on regularity. Moreover, since distributional economies do not specify a space of agents, our setting encompasses several results in the literature on large economies.

Abstract:In this paper we give several existence results for solutions of equilibrium problems in topological spaces without linear structure. To this end we introduce a new concept of convexity for maps and multivalued maps in spaces without linear structure. The discussion on convexity is enriched with some example useful to compare the new conditions with the existing one in literature. Finally, we apply the existence results obtained to a Nash equilibrium problem and to a maximization of a binary relation.

Abstract:Whereas "convexification by aggregation" is a well-understood procedure in mathematical economics, "convexification by randomization" has largely been limited to theories of statistical decision-making, optimal control and non-cooperative games. In this paper, in the context of classical Walrasian general equilibrium theory, we offer a comprehensive treatment of {\it relaxed economies} and their {\it relaxed Walrasian equilibria}: our results pertain to a setting with a finite or a continuum of agents, and a continuum of commodities modeled either as an ordered separable Banach space or as an $L^\infty$-space. As a substantive consequence, we demonstrate that the convexity hypothesis can be removed from the original large economy under the saturation hypothesis, and that existing results in the antecedent literature can be effortlessly recovered.

Abstract:Several structural results for the set of competitive equilibria in trading networks with frictions are established: The lattice theorem, the rural hospitals theorem, the existence of side‐optimal equilibria, and a group‐incentive‐compatibility result hold with imperfectly transferable utility and in the presence of frictions. While our results are developed in a trading network model, they also imply analogous (and new) results for exchange economies with combinatorial demand and for two‐sided matching markets with transfers.

Solving equilibrium problems in economies with financial markets, home production, and retention

Abstract:We propose a new methodology to compute equilibria for general equilibrium problems on exchange economies with real financial markets, home-production, and retention. We demonstrate that equilibrium prices can be determined by solving a related maxinf-optimization problem. We incorporate the non-arbitrage condition for financial markets into the equilibrium formulation and establish the equivalence between solutions to both problems. This reduces the complexity of the original by eliminating the need to directly compute financial contract prices, allowing us to calculate equilibria even in cases of incomplete financial markets. We also introduce a Walrasian bifunction that captures the imbalances and show that maxinf-points of this function correspond to equilibrium points. Moreover, we demonstrate that every equilibrium point can be approximated by a limit of maxinf points for a family of perturbed problems, by relying on the notion of lopsided convergence. Finally, we propose an augmented Walrasian algorithm and present numerical examples to illustrate the effectiveness of this approach. Our methodology allows for efficient calculation of equilibria in a variety of exchange economies and has potential applications in finance and economics.

Abstract:The article deals with the extensions of discrete-time games with infinite time horizon and their application in a fuzzy context to fishery models. The criteria for these games are the total discounted utility and the average utility in a fishing problem. However, in the fuzzy case, game theory is not the best way to represent a real fishing problem because players do not always have enough information to accurately estimate their utility in the context of fishing. For this reason, in this paper, trapezoidal-type fuzzy utility values are considered for a fishing model, and the terms of the Nash equilibrium are given in the fuzzy context, i.e., this equilibrium is represented using the partial order of the α -cuts of the fuzzy numbers; to the best of the authors' knowledge, there is no work with this type of treatment. To obtain each equilibrium, a suitable fully determined fuzzy game is used in combination with the dynamic programming technique applied to this game in the context of fishing. The main results are (i) the Nash equilibria of the fuzzy games coincide with the Nash equilibria of the nonfuzzy games and are explicitly determined in a fishery model and (ii) the values of the fuzzy games are of trapezoidal type and are also explicitly given in the fishery model.

Abstract:In real life, the relationship between social or economic environment and resource constraints may impose restrictions on the formation of coalitions. More and more scholars have recognized the limitations of (crisp) cooperative games and propose fuzzy cooperative game models to better describe the partial cooperation between players. Based on this, we introduce level structure games under fuzzy coalition, and propose a new class of fuzzy values for these level structure games. We extend Harsanyi solutions to the fuzzy domain by linear fuzzy games and establish a general form of the Harsanyi solutions (FLH-value) for level structure games. In addition, we study two distribution systems based on FLH-value, which have absolute weight and relative weight respectively. The former satisfies the null player axiom, while the latter is not satisfied. The reason is that relative weight systems make weights of all priori coalitions change when building the characteristic function of every level, and a null player can obtain the excess profit from the overflowing Harsanyi dividend. Our research has certain implications for analyzing noncontributor distribution and maintaining alliance unity.

Equilibrium Multiplicity: A Systematic Approach using Homotopies, with an Application to Chicago

Abstract:Discrete choice models with social interactions or spillovers may exhibit multiple equilibria. This paper provides a systematic approach to enumerating them for a quantitative spatial model with discrete locations, social interactions, and elastic housing supply. The approach relies on two homotopies. A homotopy is a smooth function that transforms the solutions of a simpler city where solutions are known, to a city with heterogeneous locations and finite supply elasticity. The first homotopy is that, in the set of cities with perfectly elastic floor surface supply, an economy with heterogeneous locations is homotopic to an economy with homogeneous locations, whose solutions can be comprehensively enumerated. Such an economy is epsilon close to an economy whose equilibria are the zeros of a system of polynomials. This is a well-studied area of mathematics where the enumeration of equilibria can be guaranteed. The second homotopy is that a city with perfectly elastic housing supply is homotopic to a city with an arbitrary supply elasticity. In a small number of cases, the path may bifurcate and a single path yields two or more equilibria. By running the method on thousands of cities, we obtain a large number of equilibria. Each equilibrium has different population distributions. We provide a method that is computationally feasible for economies with a large number of locations choices, with an empirical application to the City of Chicago. There exist multiple ``counterfactual Chicagos'' consistent with the estimated parameters. Population distribution, prices, and welfare are not uniquely pinned down by amenities. The paper's method can be applied to models in trade and IO. Further applications of algebraic geometry are suggested.

Abstract:In the simplest game-theoretic formulation of Schelling's model of segregation on graphs, agents of two different types each select their own vertex in a given graph so as to maximize the fraction of agents of their type in their occupied neighborhood. Two ways of modeling agent movement here are either to allow two agents to swap their vertices or to allow an agent to jump to a free vertex. The contributions of this paper are twofold. First, we prove that deciding the existence of a swap-equilibrium and a jump-equilibrium in this simplest model of Schelling games is NP-hard, thereby answering questions left open by Agarwal et al. [AAAI '20] and Elkind et al. [IJCAI '19]. Second, we introduce two measures for the robustness of equilibria in Schelling games in terms of the minimum number of edges or the minimum number of vertices that need to be deleted to make an equilibrium unstable. We prove tight lower and upper bounds on the edge- and vertex-robustness of swap-equilibria in Schelling games on different graph classes.

Abstract:Two classical problems in economics, the existence of a market equilibrium and the existence of social choice functions, are formalized here by the properties of a family of cones associated with the economy. It was recently established that a necessary and sufficient condition for solving the former is the nonempty intersection of the family of cones, and one such condition for solving the latter is the acyclicity of the unions of its subfamilies. We show an unexpected but clear connection between the two problems by establishing a duality property of the homology groups of the nerve defined by the family of cones. In particular, we prove that the intersection of the family of cones is nonempty if and only if every subfamily has acyclic unions, thus identifying the two conditions that solve the two economic problems. In addition to their applications to economics, the results are shown to extend significantly several classical theorems, providing unified and simple proofs: Helly's theorem, Caratheodory's representation theorem, the Knaster-Kuratowski-Marzukiewicz theorem, Brouwer's fixed point theorem, and Leray's theorem on acyclic covers.
Uniqueness of equilibrium and redistributive policies: a geometric approach to efficiency

Abstract:This paper examines the relationship between resource reallocation, uniqueness of equilibrium and efficiency in economics. We explore the implications of reallocation policies for stability, conflict, and decision-making by analysing the existence of geodesic coordinate functions in the equilibrium manifold. Our main result shows that in an economy with M = 2 consumers and L goods, if L coordinate functions, representing policies, are geodesics on the equilibrium manifold (a property that we call the finite geodesic property), then the equilibrium is globally unique. The presence of geodesic variables indicates optimization and efficiency in the economy, while non-geodesic variables add complexity. Finally, we establish a link between the existing results on curvature, minimal entropy, geodesics and uniqueness in smooth exchange economies. This study contributes to the understanding of the geometric and economic properties of equilibria and offers potential applications in policy considerations. Abstract:In this study, the fixed point theory on fuzzy metric spaces has been generalized to the fixed-circle theory by making a geometric interpretation. The necessary conditions to exist the fixed circles of a self-mapping have been investigated and the uniqueness of the circle is examined under suitable conditions. We present some illustrative examples of obtained results and also offer an application to confirm the utility of our established result for finding the unique solution of an integral equation appearing in the dynamic market equilibrium aspects of economics.
