Abstract:The purpose of this study was to evaluate the color stability of aesthetic restorative resin-matrix materials after their immersion in different dietary and therapeutic solutions. Thirty disc-shaped specimens (10 × 2 mm) were prepared from three different types of resin-matrix composites used in dentistry (BE, FS, AF). The color coordinates (L*a*b*, ΔL*, Δa*, Δa*, Δb* and ΔE*) were measured using a VITA Easyshade 3D-Master (VITA Zahnfabrik, Bad Säckingen, Germany) before and after the immersion of the specimens in coffee, red wine, Coca-Cola®, Eludril Care®, and distilled water solutions for 40 h. The color change (ΔE*) was calculated and analyzed by the Kolmogorov -Smirnov test and the Kruskal -Wallis multiple-comparison test. All the restorative materials showed significant color (ΔE*) changes after their exposure to red wine, followed by coffee and Coca-Cola®; however, one nanohybrid resin-matrix composite showed a high color stability in such colored test solutions. The chemical composition and content of the organic matrix played a key role in the color stability of the resin-matrix composites. Clinicians should advise their patients about the chemical interaction between dietary substances and different resin-matrix composites.

Color stability of resin composites for orthodontic attachments: an in vitro study

Abstract:ABSTRACT Objective: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the color stability of Filtek Z350 XT, Filtek Z250 XT, Z100 resin composites and Transbond XT orthodontic resin, all used in orthodontic attachments, when immersed in popular beverages. Methods: Thirty disk-shaped specimens of each resin composite (2 x 5mm) were manufactured and randomly divided into six groups according to immersion solutions: coffee, red wine, white wine, regular beer, dark beer and deionized water (control). The specimens were fully immersed in each of the solutions for six days at 37°C, representing approximately six months of consumption. The color measurements were evaluated by a reflection spectrophotometer, at baseline (before immersion) and after staining. L*a*b* coordinates were measured and the color change (ΔE00) was calculated using the CIEDE2000 formula. The data were analyzed by ANOVA/Tukey tests at a significance level of 0.05. Results: The resin composites immersed in white wine and regular beer showed either imperceptible or clinically acceptable ΔE00, and no difference from the control group (p= 0.4449 and p= 0.467 respectively). Immersion in coffee and red wine were considered clinically unacceptable and were significantly different from the control group (p= 0.0028 and p= 0.0475 respectively). Conclusion: Based on the results of the present study, the consumption of coffee and red wine may cause color change of the resin composite attachments above the visual acceptability threshold, and impair aesthetics during treatment.

Abstract:This study aimed to evaluate the staining sensitivity and surface changes in recent composite resins (Herculite Ultra XRV (Kerr, Bolzano, Italy), G-ænial A'CHORD (GC Corp, Tokyo, Japan), and Omnichroma (Yamaguchi, Japan)) when exposed to common beverages such as coffee, red wine, and Coca-Cola. A total of 60 disk-shaped specimens were prepared from three different resin composites (n = 20 each). The specimens were exposed to coffee, red wine, and Coca-Cola for 10 days. Color measurements were taken using a spectrophotometer, and surface morphology and elemental composition were analyzed using SEM and EDS. The SEM and EDS analyses revealed significant changes in the surface morphology and elemental composition of the composites after immersion. Coffee and wine caused significant surface degradation, whereas Coca-Cola resulted in the greatest degree of surface and elemental variations. Color changes (ΔE = 4 ± 0.52) were most notable in Coca-Cola for Herculite Ultra XRV (Kerr, Italy), in red wine for G-ænial A'CHORD (GC Corp, Japan) (ΔE = 12.51 ± 0.38), and in coffee for Omnichroma (Yamaguchi, Japan) (ΔE = 10.85 ± 1.03). The tested beverages significantly affected both the surface condition and the chemical composition of the resin at the surface level. These findings highlight the importance of understanding the effects of common dietary beverages on dental composites.
Effect of different polishing systems and drinks on the color stability of resin composite

Abstract:Aim: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the color stability of resin composit using different finishing systems and drinks. Materials and methods: Composit disks (5 mm diameter, 2 mm thickness) were prepared for each nanofilled composite using a brass mold. The specimens were divided into 5 finishing system groups Mylar strip (Mylar, DuPont, Wilmington, Del., USA), Soft Lex (3M(™) ESPE(™) St. Paul, MN, USA), Enhance (Dentsply-DeTrey GmbHD Konstanz, Germany), Hiluster (KerrHawe, Bioggio, Switzerland), Opti Disc (KerrHawe, Bioggio, Switzerland) and each group was divided into 10 subgroups (n = 10) and stored for 24 hours at 37°C in different drinks water coffee, coffee with sugar, tea, tea with sugar, diet coke, coke, light sour cherry juice or sour cherry juice. Color of all specimens was measured before and after exposure with a spectrophotometer using CIE L*a*b* relative, and color changes (ΔE*) were then calculated. The data were analyzed with a twoway analysis of variance (ANOVA), and mean values were compared by the Tukey HSD test (p = 0.05). Results: For the drinks, the lowest ΔE* values were observed in the water and highest ΔE* values were observed in sour cherry juice. When drinks with and without sugar were compared, all groups with sugar demonstrated a higher color difference than without sugar. For the different finishing systems, Mylar strip group demonstrated significantly highest color change; Enhance groups demonstrated significantly lowest color change. Conclusion: Finishing treatments and storage solutions significantly affect the color stability of resin composite. The presence of sugar in drinks increased the color difference compared to drinks without composit. Clinical significance: Polishing techniques and drinking drinks with sugar may affect the color of esthetic restorations.

Abstract:Objective: The aim of our study was to measure the color changes in one-shade composite resins when exposed to common drinks, such as tea, cola and coffee. Materials/methods: In our study, Omnichroma, Vitrra APS Unique, GC A'chord and Charisma Diamond One composite resins were used. Composite resins were placed in stainless steel molds with depths of 2 mm and diameters of 5 mm. Ten specimens were immersed in tea, 10 specimens were immersed in coffee, 10 specimens were immersed in cola and 10 specimens were immersed in distilled water in an incubator at 37 °C for 14 days. Color measurements were performed at the beginning of the study and after 24 h and 14 days. Color values were measured using a CIE L*a*b* system with a spectrophotometer device. Color and translucency changes were calculated and data analyzed using one-way ANOVA, two-way ANOVA, and post-hoc Tukey test (p < 0.05). Results: The greatest color changes occurred in the tea and coffee groups; the smallest color change occurred in the control group. After 14 days, the greatest color change was observed in the Charisma + Coffee group; the smallest color change was observed in the Omnichroma + Water group. The transparency and contrast ratios changed in all groups, and the smallest change occurred in the Omnichroma control group. Conclusion: Significant differences were found in the composite color changes after immersion in beverages. The color variations significantly differed depending on the beverage in which the specimens were immersed. The initial contrast ratio was markedly different from the examined materials. Clinical significance: The study emphasizes the significance of common beverages on the color stability of one-shade composite resins, underlining the need of appropriate material selection for long-term aesthetic effects in one-shade composite resin restorations.

Abstract:This study investigated the color stability of pre-reacted glass-ionomer containing composite restoratives. The materials evaluated included one regular (Beautifil II [BF]), two flowable (Beautifil Flow [F02, F10]) and two recently introduced flowable "plus" (Beautifil Flow Plus [F00, F03]) pre-reacted glass-ionomer containing composite restoratives. Twelve specimens of each material (A3 shade) were fabricated, allowed to set for 24 h at 37°C and randomly divided into 4 groups. After baseline spectrophotometric (Crystaleye, Olympus) color measurements, specimens were immersed in water, cola, red wine and coffee for 7 days. Post-immersion color measurements were taken and color changes (ΔE) were computed accordingly. Statistical analysis was done using ANOVA and post-hoc Scheffe's test (p<0.05). For pre-reacted glass-ionomer containing composites, color changes after immersion in coffee and red wine were significantly greater than in cola and water. Differences in ΔE values between materials were solution dependent. The least color change was generally observed with the flowable "plus" pre-reacted glass-ionomer containing composites.
Effects of Acidic Beverages on Color Stability of Bulk-Fill Composites with Different Viscosities

Abstract:The aim of this in vitro study is to investigate the effects of acidic beverages on the discoloration of bulk-fill composites with different viscosities. 144 disc-shaped specimens (8mm diameter × 2mm thick) were prepared from four different composite resins including a nanohybrid (Filtek Ultimate), two packable bulk-fill (Filtek Bulk Fill, Tetric N Ceram Bulk Fill), and a flowable bulk-fill composite (Tetric N Flow Bulk Fill). The specimens of each group were divided into 3 subgroups and submerged in distilled water, orange juice and coke (n=12). Color difference (∆E) were measured using CIELab color space and a compact spectrophotometer (VITA Easyshade) at baseline and after 30 days of immersion. Data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA and Tukey's HSD post-hoc tests (P<0.05). Two-way ANOVA revealed that both material type and staining solution significantly influenced ∆E values (P<0.001). Immersion in orange juice resulted in greater and significant discoloration over time in comparison to distilled water and coke (P 2.7) was observed for all bulk-fill composites tested. It can be speculated that orange juice has a more negative effect on the color stability compared to coke. Additionally, flowable bulk-fill composite was more prone to discoloration than condensable bulk-fill composites.

Abstract:Scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscope images of resin‐based composites 14 days after immersion in coffee, cola, energy drink, and distilled water. The aim of this study is to evaluate the surface roughness (SR) and color changes of single‐shade and nanohybrid resin‐based restorative materials (RBC) after immersion in liquids at different pH values. For RBCs, a total of 120 specimens, 30 for each material, were prepared using 10 mm diameter and 2 mm thick molds. For flowable bulk fill RBC, a total of 40 specimens, 10 for each material, were prepared using 10 mm diameter and 4 mm thick molds (n = 10). After initial color and SR measurements, samples were stored in the liquids for 14 days and all of the measurements were repeated on 14th days. Scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy analyzes were performed in all groups. Abstract:Aim: This study aimed to assess the color stability of bioactive restorative materials vs nanohybrid resin composites after 3 months of immersion in three frequently consumed beverages. Materials and methods: Thirty disk-shaped specimens of Giomer dental restorative material (Shofu, Japan) and nanohybrid resin composite (Tokuyama, Japan) were performed using a Teflon mold. Super-Snap system (Shofu, Japan) was utilized to finish and polish the specimens to be preserved for 24 hours in distilled water at 37°C. The samples had been divided into three subgroups (Coffee, tea, Pepsi) (n = 5). The initially displayed color measurements of the samples were performed using a spectrophotometer (VITA Easyshade® V). After 7 days, 30 days, and 90 days, color measurements were repeated, and the E of each sample was estimated. E of each sample was calculated. Results: The Giomer group showed statistically significant higher E values than the nanohybrid resin composite where the p-value was ≤0.0001. Tea subgroup showed the highest statistically significant E values in both groups where the p-value was ≤ 0.0001. The highest statistically significant color change was recorded at 3 months. Conclusion: The color of bioactive restorative material is less stable if compared with nanohybrid resin composite. Clinical significance: As tea and coffee are popular beverages, particularly in Middle Eastern nations, dentists must advise patients about the color change of resin restorations. Multivariate analysis of the effect of staining beverages on the optical properties of two provisional restorative materials

Abstract:Background: To evaluate the effect of staining beverages on the color stability, translucency and gloss of two provisional restorative materials. Material and methods: Sixty discs (8 mm x 2 mm) were manufactured for Duralay and Protemp 4. The discs were randomly divided according to the beverages: tea, coffee, wine, Coca-Cola and "Chicha morada" (n=12). The discs were polished and initial recordings of color and translucency were made with a spectrophotometer, and the gloss was measured with a glossmeter. The discs were immersed for 5 days in each of the beverages at 37◦C, and the color, translucency and gloss were recorded again. The differences between the initial and final records were calculated to obtain the values of ΔE, ΔTP, ΔGU. For the analysis, the two-way MANOVA model was chosen, and the significance level was set at 5%. Results: A significant interaction was observed between the type of material and the staining beverages on the changes observed in the values of ΔE, ΔTP, ΔGU (p<0.05). ΔE values for Duralay and Protemp 4 were affected by coffee (7.48±1.53) and wine (11.02±1.07), respectively. The greatest change in ΔTP for Duralay were generated by tea (-1.79±0.62), and coffee (-5.65±0.66) for Protemp 4. Gloss was affected mainly by coffee for both materials (Duralay = -6.44±1.17 , Protemp 4 = -8.28±1.09). Conclusions: The type of material and the pigment drinks act together to influence changes in color, translucency and gloss. The methacrylate-based resin was more stable than the bis-acrylic resin to changes in color, translucency and gloss. Key words:Color, translucency, gloss, staining solutions, interim restorations.

Abstract:Dental composites, through their structural diversity, represent the biomaterials frequently used in dental reconstructive therapy. The aim of our study was to observe the influence of different beverage environment conditions on seven types of obturation dental materials with different compositions. Our research focused on the surface modification analysis of the materials after the immersion in the different beverages; in this regard, we used the EDAX technique correlated with the energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (XRF). The pH of the drinks and that of the simulated saliva solution were determined by the titrimetric method, a sodium hydroxide solution 0.1 mol/dm3 was prepared and used for the titration. An amount of 5 mL of each analyzed solution was added to 15 mL of distilled water to obtain a dilution, to which 3 drops of phenolphthalein (as a color indicator-Phenolphthalein, 3,3-Bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)-1(3H)-isobenzofuranone, C20H14O4 Mw: 318.32, purchased from Merck) were added for each analysis. For each solution, the experiment was repeated three times in order to obtain accurate results. The results of our study materialized into a real plea for modifying the patients' behavior in terms of diet and preferences for acidic drinks, so that their quality-of-life valence can be improved by keeping the composite materials in a long-term unalterable state on the one hand; on the other hand, systemic damage can be prevented as well.
Analysis of color stability and degree of conversion of different types of resin composites

Abstract:Resin composites containing surface pre-reacted glass (S-PRG) have been introduced to reduce demineralization and improve remineralization of the tooth structure. However, water diffusion within the material is necessary for its action, which can impair its overall physicomechanical properties over time, including color stability. This study aimed to evaluate the color stability and related degree of conversion (DC) of four resin composites. Discs (6 x 4 mm, n = 5/group) of microhybrid (MH), nanofilled (NF), nanohybrid (NH), and S-PRG-based nanohybrid (S-PRG-NH) composites with two opacities (A2/A2E and A2O/A2D) were prepared. Color (CIELab and CIEDE2000) was evaluated with a spectrophotometer after aging in grape juice (2 x 10 min/10mL/7days). The DC was analyzed by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy before and after light-curing. Data were statistically analyzed by using two-way analysis of variance and post-hoc least significant difference tests (p<0.05). In the color stability analysis, the interaction between filler type and opacity was significant (CIELab, p = 0.0015; CIEDE2000, p = 0.0026). NH presented the highest color stability, which did not differ from that of MH. The greatest color alteration was observed for S-PRG-NH. S-PRG fillers also influenced DC (p < 0.05). The nanohybrid resin composite presented favorable overall performance, which is likely related to its more stable organic content. Notwithstanding the benefits of using S-PRG-based nanohybrid resins, mostly in aesthetic procedures, professionals should consider the susceptibility of such resins to color alteration, probably due to the water-based bioactive mechanism of action.
Effect of Staining Solutions on Color and Translucency Stability of Resin-Composite Computer-Aided Design and Computer-Aided Manufacturing Blocks

Abstract:BACKGROUND:The purpose of this study was to investigate the color difference (ΔE00) and translucency changes (ΔTP00) of resin-composite computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing blocks after exposure to staining solutions. METHODS:A total of 250 rectangular specimens (1.0-mm thick) were prepared from 4 resin-based composites (Brilliant Crios [Coltène Whaledent], Lava Ultimate [3M], Hyramic [Upcera], and Shofu HC [Shofu]) and a polymer-infiltrated ceramic network material (Vita Enamic [Vita Zahnfabrik]). These specimens were divided into 5 groups and stored in 5 solutions (artificial saliva, cola, black tea, coffee, red wine) at 37 °C for 3, 7, and 14 days to simulate approximately 3, 7, and 14 months, respectively, of clinical staining in the oral environment. Then, toothbrushing was conducted for 4 minutes every 24 hours of immersion to remove extrinsic staining. Measurements of color coordinates were taken at baseline and subsequent testing intervals, and changes in color and translucency were calculated. RESULTS:The results of the 3-way repeated-measures analysis of variance indicated that material, staining beverages, and time interval and the interactions between these factors collectively affected the alterations in both color and translucency (P < .001). At the 14-day immersion period, the ΔE00 values of all tested materials varied from 0.43 to 2.12 and were clinically acceptable (ΔE00 < 1.8), except for Lava Ultimate and Hyramic in red wine. All materials showed a decrease in translucency, with the ΔTP00 values ranging from -0.23 through -1.34 over 14 days and were clinically acceptable (translucency acceptability threshold < 2.62). CONCLUSIONS:Differences in color and translucency changes were observed between resin-based composites and polymer-infiltrated ceramic network material. All tested materials showed acceptable color and translucency changes when exposed to different staining solutions after the 14-day staining and toothbrushing simulation. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS:Discoloration of resin-matrix ceramics due to immersion in solution is related to material type and solutions but is generally acceptable. The dietary habits of the patient should be considered in material selection.
Spectrophotometric evaluation of color stability of novel composites following exposure to antioxidant beverages: An in vitro study

Abstract:Background: Color matching and stability are the essential considerations in restorative dentistry, as they contribute to the longevity and esthetic appeal of the restorations. Composites with nanoparticles and more filler content are anticipated to be more color-stable. Aim: The aim of the study was to assess and contrast the color stability of esthetic restoration materials following exposure to various antioxidant beverages. Materials and methods: A Class V cavity was prepared on the buccal surface of 40 maxillary premolars. The specimens were divided into two groups: microhybrid (MH) and nanohybrid (NH) composite. The baseline color of each tooth sample was measured and then, the samples were categorized into four subgroups based on the immersion solution (pomegranate juice, beetroot juice, black plum juice, and distilled water) and evaluated on day 1, day 7, day 14, and day 21 using a spectrophotometer-based on CIE L*a*b* color scale. For spectrophotometer analysis, CIE XYZ data were obtained and converted to CIELAB. The samples mean difference in ΔE values before and after being immersed in various beverages. Statistical analysis: The data were statistically analyzed using an independent t-test and one-way analysis of variance. Results: MH and NH composite materials showed color change after being exposed to the test beverages. Conclusion: MH composite causes more color change than NH composite at all-time intervals. Black plum showed the greatest discoloration in both composites.

Abstract:Objective: This study assessed the impact of beverage temperature on the surface roughness, microhardness, and color stability of monoshade composite resin. Materials and methods: A batch of 70 monoshade composite resin specimens manufactured by Charisma Diamond ONE (Kulzer, Hanau, Germany) was prepared. Initial readings for surface roughness, microhardness, and color were recorded. The specimens were then divided into seven groupings of ten each: Distilled water (control group), Nescafe coffee at 70 °C and 5 °C, Arabic coffee at 70 °C and 37 °C, and cola at 7 °C and 24 °C. These samples underwent 30-min daily immersion in their respective beverages for a duration of 30 days. Final measurements were then taken. A non-contact profilometer was used for measuring surface roughness, a Vickers microhardness machine from Contour GT-I (Bruker Nano GmbH, Berlin, Germany) for microhardness, and a Color-Eye 7000A Spectrophotometer (X-Rite, GretagMacbeth, Michigan USA) for color stability. Statistical analyses, including repeated measure ANOVA for microhardness, roughness, and color, were executed using SPSS version 23. Results: All beverages led to changes in composite color and properties. Notably, coffee at 70 °C resulted in significant discoloration of the composite resin surface (p < 0.0001). The beverage that most affected the surface hardness and roughness of the monoshade composite resin was cola at 7 °C (p = 0.008). Conclusion: The inherent chemicals in beverages, coupled with their temperatures, can influence the composite properties of resin, specifically surface discoloration, hardness, and roughness. Clinicians may, therefore, consider instructing patients about the potential negative effects of these beverages.
The effect of tooth bleaching using violet LED (405-410 nm) on the properties of resin-based composites

Abstract:Background: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of bleaching techniques, including or not the use of violet light (405-410 nm), on resin-based composites' color, surface roughness, nanohardness, and elastic modulus. Methods: Ninety-six disk-shaped specimens (12 mm x 2 mm; n = 12) were prepared using Filtek Z350 XT (Z350) and IPS Empress Direct (ED) resin-based composites. After 24 h, specimens were stained in red wine for 28 days. After staining, specimens were divided into four experimental groups: 40 % Hydrogen Peroxide (HP); Violet Light (VL); 40 % Hydrogen Peroxide associated with Violet Light (HP+VL), and a control group - no treatment (NT). Specimens were evaluated at six experimental times: initial (24 h after light curing); after staining and after the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th bleaching sessions regarding the color change (ΔE00, L*, a*, b*, and WID); roughness (Ra), nanohardness and elastic modulus (GPa). Two-way analysis of variance for repeated measures was performed (α=0.05 %). Results: There was a statistically significant difference between staining and the 1st bleaching session for all ED groups (p<0.05). After the last bleaching session, there were no differences between the experimental and the control groups of both resin-based composites. Bleaching using violet light did not change the roughness, nanohardness and elastic modulus of the tested resin-based composites (p>0.05). Conclusions: Although hydrogen peroxide and violet light remove pigments from resin-based composites without affecting their surface roughness, nanohardness, and elastic modulus, the color change was similar to the one obtained by immersion in distilled water.

Abstract:Objective:To investigate effects of polyphenols on the color and light transmittance of three kinds of nanocomposites. Method:Three kinds of nanocomposites(3M Z350 A2、A3 colour,Shofu Beautiful ⅡA2、A3 colour,Kuraray Clearfil A2、A3 colour) were tested in the study. There were twelve samples for each group. Changes in colour and light transmittance of test samples were determined by PANTONE X-rite Ci7600 spectrophotometer before and after 1,2,3 and 4 weeks. The samples were random infusioned in the food including polyphenols (coffee、red wine、green tea and artificial saliva) using the CIE L*a*b*system by a colourimeter. Result:The colour and light transmittance of resin disks submerged in liquid were different in different immersion time. The values of colour variation ranged from 0.26 to 26.63. Among all the groups, red wine showed the maximum colour variation value while artificial saliva showed the minimum colour variation value ,and amomg all the resin disks, 3M had the best color stability while clearfil had the worst color stability. The overall light transmittance reduced and A3 colour variation value was less than A2 colour. Conclusion:The polyphenols in food cause color and light transmittance change in the resin materials. The resin restoration is still insufficient and clinical choose should weigh the pros and cons.
Effect of mouthwashes on the color stability of a nanohybrid composite resin

Abstract:The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of different mouthwash solutions on the color stability of a nanohybrid composite resin. Forty discs of Luna nanohybrid composite resin were prepared and randomly assigned to 4 experimental groups (n = 10), determined by the type of immersion solution: distilled water (DW); Oral-B Pro-Health mouthwash (OBPH); Listerine Total Care mouthwash (LTC); or Colgate Plax Infinity mouthwash (CPI). The discs were immersed in solution for 30 minutes a day and stored at 37°C for 24 hours. Digital photographs of each specimen were taken at each timepoint and transferred to a computer program for color analysis. The International Commission on Illumination L*a*b* system was used to analyze the color of the specimens at baseline and the overall color change (ΔE*) at baseline, 30 days, 60 days, and 90 days. Two-way analysis of variance was used to evaluate the influence of solution and time on ΔE* values (α = 0.05). The t test was used as a post hoc test to compare the mean values between groups (α = 0.05). After 30 days, all groups showed small color change values compared with baseline (ΔE*1 < 1.0). However, after 60 days, the LTC and CPI groups showed greater color change (ΔE*2) than the other groups, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). After 90 days, all groups differed significantly compared with the control group (P < 0.05), and all mouthwash groups presented color change values that are considered clinically unacceptable (ΔE*3 > 3.0). The results of this in vitro study indicate that mouthwash solutions do not cause significant color changes in nanohybrid composite resin for a period of up to 30 days; however, longer periods (90 days) of exposure could make the restorative material esthetically unacceptable.
Effect of Common Staining Beverages on Color Stability of Polymer-infiltrated Ceramics and Extra Translucent Zirconia: An In Vitro Study

Abstract:Aim: The current study aims to assess the color change of polymer-infiltrated ceramic Vita Enamic (VE) and extra translucent multilayer zirconia (XTML) after being immersed in different types of beverages, which are coffee, tea, and cola in comparison to distilled water as control. Materials and methods: A total of 80 rectangular-shaped specimens were prepared with fixed dimensions (14 × 12 × 0.5 mm) and then were divided into two groups (n = 40) according to ceramic material (VE, XTML). Specimens were sliced as each slice measures about 0.5 mm thick. Each group specimens were divided into four subgroups (n = 10) based on the immersion solutions in which specimens were stored (water, coffee, tea, and cola) for 28 days. The color parameters (L-a-b) of the specimens were recorded before immersion and at the end of the 7th (T1), 14th (T2), 21st (T3) and 28th (T4) days after immersion. Color measurements were statistically analyzed with a significance threshold of p < 0.05. Results: There was a significant difference in color change between VE and XTML in all periods of tea and coffee immersion subgroups and in T3 and T4 in cola immersion subgroups (p < 0.001). Vita Enamic showed the highest differences in ΔE through all storage periods after 28 days of tea immersion (ΔE of VE= 8.06 ± 1.04). Extra translucent multilayer zirconia showed the highest differences in ΔE through all storage periods after 28 days of tea immersion (ΔE of XTML = 3.0 ± 0.33). Conclusion: Commonly consumed staining beverages influenced the color stability of the polymer-infiltrated ceramics more than extra translucent zirconia ceramics. Clinical significance: This study may provide guidance for clinicians to select the appropriate ceramic restorative material with high color stability and low tendency for color change by common staining beverages to achieve long-lasting esthetic results for the patients. Abstract:Objective Evaluate the color and translucency of a nanoceramic resin subjected to hygiene practices and immersion in coffee over time. Materials and Methods Specimens (n = 80, HT and LT, 0.5‐mm thick) of a nanoceramic resin were obtained and were divided in groups according to the simulated oral hygiene: no intervention (NT), brushing with an electric brush and water (BN), brushing with an electric brush and toothpaste for 10 s (BT), and immersion in mouthwash for 30 s (MW).
