Abstract:We study the deformation theory of quotients of polynomial rings by quadratic monomial ideals. More precisely we compute the first cotangent cohomology module of such rings. We also give a criterion for vanishing of second cotangent cohomology module.

Abstract:Let ${\rm N}_m(R) = \{ (a_{ij}) \in {\rm M}_m(R) \mid a_{11} = a_{22} = \cdots = a_{mm} \mbox{ and } a_{ij} = 0 \mbox{ for any } i > j \}$ for a commutative ring $R$. Then ${\rm N}_m(R)$ is a quadratic monomial algebra over $R$. We calculate ${\rm HH}^{\ast}({\rm N}_m(R), {\rm M}_m(R)/{\rm N}_m(R))$ as $R$-modules. We also determine the $R$-algebra structure of the Hochschild cohomology ring ${\rm HH}^{\ast}({\rm N}_m(R), {\rm N}_m(R))$. For $m \ge 3$, ${\rm HH}^{\ast}({\rm N}_m(R), {\rm N}_m(R))$ is an infinitely generated algebra over $R$ and has no Batalin-Vilkovisky algebra structure giving the Gerstenhaber bracket.

Abstract:In his fundamental work, Quillen developed the theory of the cotangent complex as a universal abelian derived invariant, and used it to define and study a canonical form of cohomology, encompassing many known cohomology theories. Additional cohomology theories, such as generalized cohomology of spaces and topological André-Quillen cohomology, can be accommodated by considering a spectral version of the cotangent complex. Recent work of Lurie established a comprehensive $\infty$-categorical analogue of the cotangent complex formalism using stabilization of $\infty$-categories. In this paper we study the spectral cotangent complex while working in Quillen's model categorical setting. Our main result gives new and explicit computations of the cotangent complex and Quillen cohomology of enriched categories. For this we make essential use of previous work, which identifies the tangent categories of operadic algebras in unstable model categories. In particular, we present the cotangent complex of an $\infty$-category as a spectrum valued functor on its twisted arrow category, and consider the associated obstruction theory in some examples of interest.

Abstract:We construct a theory of motivic cohomology for quasi-compact, quasi-separated schemes of equal characteristic, which is related to non-connective algebraic $K$-theory via an Atiyah--Hirzebruch spectral sequence, and to étale cohomology in the range predicted by Beilinson and Lichtenbaum. On smooth varieties over a field our theory recovers classical motivic cohomology, defined for example via Bloch's cycle complex. Our construction uses trace methods and (topological) cyclic homology. As predicted by the behaviour of algebraic $K$-theory, the motivic cohomology is in general sensitive to singularities, including non-reduced structure, and is not $\mathbb{A}^1$-invariant. It nevertheless has good geometric properties, satisfying for example the projective bundle formula and pro cdh descent. Further properties of the theory include a Nesterenko--Suslin comparison isomorphism to Milnor $K$-theory, and a vanishing range which simultaneously refines Weibel's conjecture about negative $K$-theory and a vanishing result of Soulé for the Adams eigenspaces of higher algebraic $K$-groups. We also explore the relation of the theory to algebraic cycles, showing in particular that the Levine--Weibel Chow group of zero cycles on a surface arises as a motivic cohomology group.

Abstract:Building on the recent computation of the cohomology rings of smooth toric varieties and partial quotients of moment-angle complexes, we investigate the naturality properties of the resulting isomorphism between the cohomology of such a space and the torsion product involving the Stanley-Reisner ring. If 2 is invertible in the chosen coefficient ring, then the isomorphism is natural with respect to toric morphisms, which for partial quotients are defined in analogy with toric varieties. In general there are deformation terms that we describe explicitly.

Equivariant cohomology of odd-dimensional complex quadrics from a combinatorial point of view

Abstract:This paper aims to determine the ring structure of the torus equivariant cohomology of odd-dimensional complex quadrics by computing the graph equivariant cohomology of their corresponding GKM graphs. We show that its graph equivariant cohomology is generated by three types of subgraphs in the GKM graph, which are subject to four different types of relations. Furthermore, we consider the relationship between the two graph equivariant cohomology rings induced by odd- and even-dimensional complex quadrics.

Abstract:Let $\mathbb S^{\infty}/\mathbb Z_2$ be the infinite lens space and $\mathscr A$ be the Steenrod algebra over the binary field $\mathbb F_2.$ The cohomology $H^{*}((\mathbb S^{\infty}/\mathbb Z_2)^{\oplus s}; \mathbb F_2)$ is known to be isomorphic to the graded polynomial ring $\mathcal {P}_s:= \mathbb F_2[x_1, \ldots, x_s]$ on $s$ generators of degree 1, viewed as an unstable $\mathscr A$-module. The Kameko squaring operation $(\widetilde {Sq^0_*})_{(s; N)}: (\mathbb F_2\otimes_{\mathscr A} \mathcal {P}_s)_{2N+s} \longrightarrow (\mathbb F_2\otimes_{\mathscr A} \mathcal {P}_s)_{N}$ is rather useful in studying an open problem of determining the dimension of the indecomposables $(\mathbb F_2\otimes_{\mathscr A} \mathcal {P}_s)_N.$ As a continuation of our recent works, this paper deals with the kernel of the Kameko $(\widetilde {Sq^0_*})_{(s; N_d)}$ for the case where $s = 5$ and the "generic" degree $N_d$ is of the form $N_d = 5(2^{d} - 1) + 11.2^{d+1}$ for arbitrary $d > 0.$ We then rectify almost all of the main results that were inaccurate in an earlier publication [Rev. Real Acad. Cienc. Exactas Fis. Nat. Ser. A-Mat. \textbf{116}:81 (2022)] by Nguyen Khac Tin. We have also constructed several advanced algorithms in \texttt{SageMath} to validate our results. These new algorithms make an important contribution to tackling the intricate task of explicitly determining both the dimension and the basis for the indecomposables $\mathbb F_2 \otimes_{\mathscr A} \mathcal {P}_s$ at positive degrees, a problem concerning algorithmic approaches that had not previously been addressed by any author. Also, the present study encompasses an investigation of the behavior of the cohomological transfer in bidegrees $(5, 5+N_d)$, with the internal degree $N_d$ mentioned above. The interplay between the papers by Nguyen Sum \cite{SM, N.S3} and our preceding studies \cite{D.P3, D.P7-1} is also discussed.

Cohomology rings of the moduli of one-dimensional sheaves on the projective plane

Abstract:We initiate a systematic study on the cohomology rings of the moduli stack $\mathfrak{M}_{d,\chi}$ of semistable one-dimensional sheaves on the projective plane. We introduce a set of tautological relations of geometric origin, including Mumford-type relations, and prove that their ideal is generated by certain primitive relations via the Virasoro operators. Using BPS integrality and the computational efficiency of Virasoro operators, we show that our geometric relations completely determine the cohomology rings of the moduli stacks up to degree 5. As an application, we verify the refined Gopakumar--Vafa/Pandharipande--Thomas correspondence for local $\mathbb{P}^2$ in degree 5. Furthermore, we propose a substantially strengthened version of the $P=C$ conjecture, originally introduced by Shen and two of the authors. This can be viewed as an analogue of the $P=W$ conjecture in a compact and Fano setting.

Abstract:We present some results from classical homological algebra using the language of cotorsion theories in abelian categories. The results are a couple of foundational facts about homological dimension, the Kunneth formula and the universal coefficients formula. We also present some ''totally acyclic'' cotorsion theories and revisit some results from the literature concerning resolutions of chain complexes in abelian categories.

Abstract:We give an explicit description of a diagonal map on the Bardzell resolution for any monomial algebra, and we use this diagonal map to describe the cup product on Hochschild cohomology. Then, we prove that the cup product is zero in positive degrees for triangular monomial algebras. Our proof uses the graded-commutativity of the cup product on Hochschild cohomology and does not rely on explicit computation of the Hochschild cohomology modules.

Abstract:We investigate quotients by radical monomial ideals for which $T^2$, the second cotangent cohomology module, vanishes. The dimension of the graded components of $T^2$, and thus their vanishing, depends only on the combinatorics of the corresponding simplicial complex. We give both a complete characterization and a full list of one dimensional complexes with $T^2=0$. We characterize the graded components of $T^2$ when the simplicial complex is a uniform matroid. Finally, we show that $T^2$ vanishes for all matroids of corank at most two and conjecture that all connected matroids with vanishing $T^2$ are of corank at most two.

A log-motivic cohomology for semistable varieties and its $p$-adic deformation theory

Abstract:We construct log-motivic cohomology groups for semistable varieties and study the $p$-adic deformation theory of log-motivic cohomology classes. Our main result is the deformational part of a $p$-adic variational Hodge conjecture for varieties with semistable reduction: a rational log-motivic cohomology class in bidegree $(2n,n)$ lifts to a continuous pro-class if and only if its Hyodo-Kato class lies in the $n$-th step of the Hodge filtration. This generalises a theorem of Bloch-Esnault-Kerz which treats the good reduction case. In the case $n=1$ the lifting criterion is the one obtained by Yamashita for the logarithmic Picard group. Along the way, we relate log-motivic cohomology to logarithmic Milnor $K$-theory and the logarithmic Hyodo-Kato Hodge-Witt sheaves.

Abstract:Let $C$ be a smooth projective curve, $E$ a locally free sheaf. Hyperquot schemes on $C$ parametrise flags of coherent quotients of $E$ with fixed Hilbert polynomial, and offer alternative compactifications to the spaces of maps from $C$ to partial flag varieties. Motivated by enumerative geometry, in this paper we construct a perfect obstruction theory (and hence a virtual class and a virtual structure sheaf) on these moduli spaces, which we use to provide criteria for smoothness and unobstructedness. Under these assumptions, we determine their motivic partition function in the Grothendieck ring of varieties, in terms of the motivic zeta function of $C$.

Abstract:Let $A$ be a commutative Noetherian ring of characteristic zero and $R=A[X_1, \ldots, X_d]$ be a polynomial ring over $A$ with the standard $\mathbb{N}^d$-grading. Let $I\subseteq R$ be an ideal which can be generated by elements of the form $aU$ where $a \in A$ (possibly nonunit) and $U$ is a monomial in $X_i$'s. We call such an ideal as a `$\mathfrak{C}$-monomial ideal'. Local cohomology modules supported on monomial ideals gain a great deal of interest due to their applications in the context of toric varieties. It was observed that for $\underline{u} \in \mathbb{Z}^d$, their $\underline{u}^{th}$ components depend only on which coordinates of $\underline{u}$ are negative. In this article, we show that this statement holds true in our general setting, even for certain invariants of the components. We mainly focus on the Bass numbers, injective dimensions, dimensions, associated primes, Bernstein-type dimensions, and multiplicities of the components. Under the extra assumption that $A$ is regular, we describe the finiteness of Bass numbers of each component and bound its injective dimension by the dimension of its support. Finally, we present a structure theorem for the components when $A$ is the ring of formal power series in one variable over a characteristic zero field.

Abstract:For a dualizing module $D$ over a commutative Noetherian ring $R$ with identity, it is known that its Auslander class $\mathscr{A}_D\left(R\right)$ (respectively, Bass class $\mathscr{B}_D\left(R\right)$) is characterized as those $R$-modules with finite Gorenstein flat dimension (respectively, finite Gorenstein injective dimension). We establish an analogue of this result in the context of cotilting modules over general Noetherain rings.

Abstract:We give an explicit approach to quotienting affine varieties by linear actions of linear algebraic groups with graded unipotent radical, using results from projective Non-Reductive GIT. Our quotients come with explicit projective completions, whose boundaries we interpret in terms of the original action. As an application we construct moduli spaces of semistable representations of quivers with multiplicities subject to certain conditions, which always hold in the toric case for a generic stability condition.

Abstract: We develop a moduli theory of algebraic varieties and pairs of non-negative Kodaira dimension. We define stable minimal models and construct their projective coarse moduli spaces under certain natural conditions. This can be applied to a wide range of moduli problems in algebraic geometry.
