Abstract:Surface bonding and local space restriction can synergistically enhance catalytic activity and stability. Herein, we report the gradient pores loaded with FeP on the porous surface of carbon spheres based on Fe-N bonding and pore confinement for water splitting. The Fe-N bond enhances the FeP-carbon surface interaction to promote electron transfer from FeP to gradient pore carbon (GPC). The negative shifted d-band center of Fe reduces the adsorption of intermediates at the active sites. Gradient pores provide anchoring sites for FeP and facilitate electrolyte diffusion. The mass transfer kinetics related to the pore structure in the catalytic reaction were fitted by the finite element method. The appropriate gradient pores facilitate electrolyte transfer and expose more active sites. The pore confinement inhibits the aggregation and decreases the odds of shedding to maintain good durability of catalysts. This work provides a research paradigm for the ingenious design of supports to strengthen catalyst-support interaction.
