Abstract:In this paper the 3-way intersection problem for $S(2,4,v)$ designs is investigated. Let $b_{v}=\frac {v(v-1)}{12}$ and $I_{3}[v]=\{0,1,...,b_{v}\}\setminus\{b_{v}-7,b_{v}-6,b_{v}-5,b_{v}-4,b_{v}-3,b_{v}-2,b_{v}-1\}$. Let $J_{3}[v]=\{k|$ there exist three $S(2,4,v)$ designs with $k$ same common blocks$\}$. We show that $J_{3}[v]\subseteq I_{3}[v]$ for any positive integer $v\equiv1, 4\ (\rm mod \ 12)$ and $J_{3}[v]=I_{3}[v]$, for $ v\geq49$ and $v=13 $. We find $J_{3}[16]$ completely. Also we determine some values of $J_{3}[v]$ for $\ v=25,28,37$ and 40.

Abstract:It is proved in this paper that for m≢0,2,6,10(mod12) there exists a resolvable group divisible design of order v, block size 4 and group size m if and only v≡0(mod4), v≡0(modm), v−m≡0(mod3), except when (m,v)=(3,12) and except possibly when (3,264),(3,372),(8,80),(8,104), (9,396) (40,400) or (40,520).

Abstract:A $3$-$(v,\{4,6\},1)$ design is a configuration of $v$ points and a collection of $4$- and $6$-element subsets called blocks, that jointly contain every 3-element subset exactly once. Using an exhaustive computer search on $v\leq 28$ points we investigate the $3$-$(v,\{4,6\},1)$ designs that have a transitive automorphism group and where the blocks of size 6 form a 2-class symmetric design. A 2-class symmetric design with parameters $(v,k{;}\lambda_1,\lambda_2{;}\delta_1,\delta_2)$ is a set-system on $v$ points and $v$ blocks of size $k$, where every pair of points are in $\lambda_1$ or $\lambda_2$ blocks and every pair of blocks intersect in $\delta_1$ or $\delta_2$ points. The 2-class symmetric designs include biplanes, semi-biplanes, and 2-class symmetric partially balanced incomplete block designs.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the combinatorial properties of three classes of integer partitions: (1) $s$-modular partitions, a class consisting of partitions into parts with a number of occurrences (i.e., multiplicity) congruent to $0$ or $1$ modulo $s$, (2) $s$-congruent partitions, which generalize Sellers' partitions into parts not congruent to $2$ modulo $4$, and (3) $s$-duplicate partitions, of which the partitions having distinct odd parts and enumerated by the function $\mypod(n)$ are a special case. In this vein, we generalize Alladi's series expansion for the product generating function of $\mypod(n)$ and show that Andrews' generalization of Göllnitz-Gordon identities coincides with the number of partitions into parts simultaneously $s$-congruent and $t$-distinct (parts appearing fewer than $t$ times).

A finiteness theorem of block-transitive point-imprimitive 3-designs

Abstract:In 2003, Tuan showed a finiteness theorem for block-transitive point-imprimitive 3- (k(k−1)2+1,k,λ) designs. As a generalization of this result, we consider the block-transitive point-imprimitive 3- (v,k,λ) designs with v . Let D=(P,B) be a 3- (v,k,λ) design admitting G as a block-transitive point-imprimitive automorphism group, and G preserve a partition C of the points into d imprimitivity classes of size c , here v=wk(k−1)s+1 , s,w are two positive integers with gcd(s,w)=1 and 2w . We prove that, for a given positive integer s , there are only finitely many numbers v such that there exist nontrivial block-transitive point-imprimitive 3- (v,k,λ) designs with c,d≥3 . Moreover, we obtain the classification for this type of designs when s≤10 .

Abstract:A design is said to be super‐simple if the intersection of any two blocks has at most two elements. A design with index tλ is said to be λt ‐decomposable, if its blocks can be partitioned into nonempty collections Bi , 1≤i≤t , such that each Bi with the point set forms a design with index λ . In this paper, it is proved that there exists a 23 ‐decomposable super‐simple (v,4,6) ‐BIBD (balanced incomplete block design) if and only if v≥16 and v≡1(mod3) .

Abstract:Let(v,u×c,λ)-SBIBD denote a(v,u×c,λ)-splitting balanced incomplete block design of order with block size and index.Necessary conditions for the existence of a(v,u×c,λ)-splitting BIBD are v≥uc,λ(v-1)≡0(mod c(u-1)),and λv(v-1)≡0(mod c2u(u-1)).The investigation for the existence of splitting BIBDs has theoretical sig-nificance and is closely connected with design theory,graph theory and splitting authentication codes.In this paper,applying difference method and recursive construction,we show that there exists a(v,3 × 4,1)-splitting balanced in-complete block design for v≡1(mod 96).As its consequence,we obtain a new infinite class of optimal 4-splitting au-thentication codes.

Abstract:Even though Peltesohn proved that a cyclic (v,3,1)-design exists if and only if $v\equiv 1,3\pmod{6}$ as early as 1939, the problem of determining the spectrum of cyclic (v,k,1)-designs with k>3 is far from being settled, even for k=4. This paper shows that a cyclic (v,4,1)-design exists if and only if $v\equiv 1,4\pmod{12}$ and $v\not\in\{16,25,28\}$.

Abstract:A large set LOD(v) is a partition of all ordered triples of a v ‐set into v−2 disjoint ordered designs of order v . In this paper, we generalize the large set LOD(v) with v=gt to the notion of POT(gt) , representing a partition of all ordered triples of a gt ‐set into disjoint uniform holely ordered designs HOD(gt) s. We show that a POT(gt) exists if and only if g=1,2 and t≥3 , except for (g,t)=(1,6) . Moreover, we study the existence of a POT(gt) with every member HOD(gt) having a kind of resolution. We show that a resolvable POT(gt) exists if and only if g=1,2 , t≥3 , (g,t)≠(1,6) , with 27 possible exceptions. For almost resolvable POT(2t) s, we prove the asymptotic existence and present a few infinite families.

Abstract:Let λKv be a λ-fold complete graph.A 4-star design is an ordered pair D =（X,B）,whereX = V（λKv）,and B is the set of subgraphs of λKv which are isomorphic to 4-star graphs（called blocks）,such that every edge of occurs in a unique block of λKv.If can be partitioned into the parallel classes（which are partitions of X）,then D is called a resolvable 4-star design.If can be partitioned into the almost parallel classes（which are partitions of X ／ {x} for some）,then D is called an almost resolvable 4-star design.In 2009,Danziger et.al showed that the necessary conditions for the existence of a resolvable 4-star design are also sufficient.In this paper,the necessary v≡1（mod 5）,λ≡0（mod 8）conditions for the existence of an（v,λ）4-ARS are also proved to be sufficient by direct constructions and recursive constructions.

Abstract:We define a triangle design as a partition of the set of $2$-dimensional subspaces of an $n$-dimensional vector space into triangles, where a triangle consists of three subspaces with the trivial, $0$-dimensional, intersection and $1$-dimensional mutual intersections. A triangle design is balanced if all nonzero vectors are involved in the same number of triangles. Over the binary field GF$(2)$, we construct balanced triangle designs for all admissible $n$ (congruent to $1$ modulo $6$) and an infinite class of balanced block-divisible triangle designs. We also prove that the existence of a triangle design over GF$(2)$ invariant under the action of the Singer cycle group is equivalent to the existence of a partition of $Z_{2^n-1}\backslash\{0\}$ into special $18$-subsets and find such designs for $n=7$, $13$, $19$.

Abstract:In this paper, we study partitions of positive integers with restrictions involving squares. We mainly establish the following two results (which were conjectured by Sun in 2013): (i) Each positive integer $n$ can be written as $n=x+y+z$ with $x,y,z$ positive integers such that $x^2+y^2+z^2$ is a square, unless $n$ has the form $n=2^{a}3^{b}$ or $2^{a}7$ with $a$ and $b$ nonnegative integers. (ii) Each integer $n>7$ with $n\not=11,14,17$ can be written as $n=x+y+2z$ with $x,y,z$ positive integers such that $x^2+y^2+2z^2$ is a square.
An infinite family of internal congruences modulo powers of 2 for partitions into odd parts with designated summands

Abstract:In 2002, Andrews, Lewis, and Lovejoy introduced the combinatorial objects which they called \emph{partitions with designated summands}. These are built by taking unrestricted integer partitions and designating exactly one of each occurrence of a part. In that same work, Andrews, Lewis, and Lovejoy also studied such partitions wherein all parts must be odd, and they denoted the number of such partitions of size $n$ by the function $PDO(n)$. Since then, numerous authors have proven a variety of divisibility properties satisfied by $PDO(n)$. Recently, the second author proved the following internal congruences satisfied by $PDO(n)$: For all $n\geq 0$, \begin{align*} PDO(4n) &\equiv PDO(n) \pmod{4},\\ PDO(16n) &\equiv PDO(4n) \pmod{8}. \end{align*} In this work, we significantly extend these internal congruence results by proving the following new infinite family of congruences: For all $k\geq 0$ and all $n\geq 0$, $$PDO(2^{2k+3}n) \equiv PDO(2^{2k+1}n) \pmod{2^{2k+3}}.$$ We utilize several classical tools to prove this family, including generating function dissections via the unitizing operator of degree two, various modular relations and recurrences involving a Hauptmodul on the classical modular curve $X_0(6)$, and an induction argument which provides the final step in proving the necessary divisibilities. It is notable that the construction of each $2$-dissection slice of our generating function bears an entirely different nature to those studied in the past literature.

Partition theorems and the Chinese remainder theorem

Abstract:The famous partition theorem of Euler states that partitions of $n$ into distinct parts are equinumerous with partitions of $n$ into odd parts. Another famous partition theorem due to MacMahon states that the number of partitions of $n$ with all parts repeated at least once equals the number of partitions of $n$ where all parts must be even or congruent to $3 \pmod 6$. These partition theorems were further extended by Glaisher, Andrews, Subbarao, Nyirenda and Mugwangwavari. In this paper, we utilize the Chinese remainder theorem to prove a comprehensive partition theorem that encompasses all existing partition theorems. We also give a natural generalization of Euler's theorem based on a special complete residue system. Furthermore, we establish interesting congruence connections between the partition function $p(n)$ and related partition functions.
