Abstract:I want to thank Dr. Jessie Yu and Dr. Jesse Selber for serving as co-guest editors for this issue of Seminars in Plastic Surgery on "New and updated applications for robotic surgery in plastic surgery." We also appreciate the efforts made by each outstanding author for contributing to this issue. Dr. Yu is an Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. She is a board-certified reconstructive microsurgeon and provides a comprehensive spectrum of plastic and reconstructive surgical care. Dr. Yu has specialized interests in complex free flap reconstruction after breast, head and neck, and orthopaedic surgeries, as well as the surgical treatment of lymphedema. Dr. Yu is dedicated to providing compassionate and personalized patient care while optimizing safe and long-lasting aesthetic and functional outcomes. Dr. Yu completed her MD at the NYU School of Medicine and completed her Plastic Surgery Residency at the Hansjörg Wyss Department of Plastic Surgery at NYU Langone Health in New York City. After residency, she pursued an advanced fellowship in Microsurgery and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery at MD Anderson Cancer Center, where she focused on patient-tailored, state-of-the-art reconstruction techniques, including deep inferior epigastric perforator and profunda artery perforator free flaps, virtual surgical planning-planned osteocutaneous free flaps, and super microsurgery for lymphedema. Dr. Yu is passionate and dedicated toward applying cutting-edge plastic surgical techniques to restore quality of life for oncologic patients. Her numerous publications and presentations at national meetings reflect her commitment to research and education. Dr. Jesse Selber is the Physician Executive, Surgery Service Line Chief, and Professor of Plastic Surgery in Corewell Health. He is a graduate of Brown University, the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, and the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Selber trained in Surgery and Plastic Surgery at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and completed a clinical fellowship in Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX. Dr. Selber's clinical practice consists of breast, head and neck, trunk, and extremity reconstruction. He has developed the world's first robotic plastic surgery program and has led groundbreaking transplants. He continues to pioneer and innovate in multiple areas of reconstruction. Dr. Selber has had over 200 articles published in peer-reviewed journals, serves as a reviewer or editor for multiple journals, and has led the research effort for the Department of Plastic Surgery at MD Anderson for the past 10 years. He has held many offices in national plastic surgery societies including the American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the Plastic Surgery Foundation, and is an Executive Board Member, Founding member and former President of the Robotic Assisted Microvascular and Endoscopic Surgery society (RAMSES).
