Abstract:As a first result we prove higher order Schauder estimates for solutions to singular/degenerate elliptic equations of type: \[ -\mathrm{div}\left(\rho^aA\nabla w\right)=\rho^af+\mathrm{div}\left(\rho^aF\right) \quad\textrm{in}\; \Omega \] for exponents $a>-1$, where the weight $\rho$ vanishes in a non degenerate manner on a regular hypersurface $\Gamma$ which can be either a part of the boundary of $\Omega$ or mostly contained in its interior. As an application, we extend such estimates to the ratio $v/u$ of two solutions to a second order elliptic equation in divergence form when the zero set of $v$ includes the zero set of $u$ which is not singular in the domain (in this case $\rho=u$, $a=2$ and $w=v/u$). We prove first $C^{k,\alpha}$-regularity of the ratio from one side of the regular part of the nodal set of $u$ in the spirit of the higher order boundary Harnack principle established by De Silva and Savin. Then, by a gluing Lemma, the estimates extend across the regular part of the nodal set. Finally, using conformal mapping in dimension $n=2$, we provide local gradient estimates for the ratio which hold also across the singular set.

Abstract:Aim of this paper is to provide higher order boundary Harnack principles [De Silva-Savin 15] for elliptic equations in divergence form under Dini type regularity assumptions on boundaries, coefficients and forcing terms. As it was proven in [Terracini-Tortone-Vita 22], the ratio $v/u$ of two solutions vanishing on a common portion $\Gamma$ of a regular boundary solves a degenerate elliptic equation whose coefficients behave as $u^2$ at $\Gamma$. Hence, for any $k\geq 1$ we provide $C^k$ estimates for solutions to the auxiliary degenerate equation under double Dini conditions, actually for general powers of the weight $a>-1$, and we imply $C^k$ estimates for the ratio $v/u$ under triple Dini conditions, as a corollary in the case $a=2$.

Abstract:We establish a C^1,alpha Schauder estimate of a non-standard degenerate elliptic equation and use it to give another proof of the higher order boundary Harnack inequality. As an application, we obtain the analyticity of the free boundary in the classical obstacle problem based on iterating the boundary Harnack principle.

Abstract:In this paper, we complete the analysis initiated in [AFV24] establishing some higher order $C^{k+2,\alpha}$ Schauder estimates ($k \in \mathbb{N}$) for a a class of parabolic equations with weights that are degenerate/singular on a characteristic hyperplane. The $C^{2,\alpha}$-estimates are obtained through a blow-up argument and a Liouville theorem, while the higher order estimates are obtained by a fine iteration procedure. As a byproduct, we present two applications. First, we prove similar Schauder estimates when the degeneracy/singularity of the weight occurs on a regular hypersurface of cylindrical type. Second, we provide an alternative proof of the higher order boundary Harnack principles established in [BG16,Kuk22].

Abstract:The present paper studies the Dirichlet problem for elliptic equations degenerate on part of the boundary of a domain and the degeneracy is of the Keldysh type. By introducing a proper metric that is related to the operator we establish the global Hölder estimates when some well-posed boundary conditions are satisfied. The main methods are the construction of some barrier functions and the interpolation of the estimates of uniformly elliptic operators.

Abstract:We prove $\textit{a priori}$ and $\textit{a posteriori}$ Hölder bounds and Schauder $C^{1,\alpha}$ estimates for continuous solutions to singular/degenerate equations with variable coefficients of type $$ \mathrm{div}\left(|u|^a A\nabla w\right)=0\qquad\mathrm{in \ }\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^n, $$ where the weight $u$ solves an elliptic equation of type $\mathrm{div}\left(A\nabla u\right)=0$ with a Lipschitz-continuous and uniformly elliptic matrix $A$ and has a nontrivial, possibly singular, nodal set. Such estimates are uniform with respect to $u$ in a class of normalized solutions having bounded Almgren's frequency. More precisely, we provide $\textit{a priori}$ Hölder bounds in any space dimension, and Schauder estimates when $n=2$. When $a=2$, the results apply to the ratios of two solutions to the same PDE sharing their zero sets. Then, one can infer higher order boundary Harnack principles on nodal domains by applying the Schauder estimates for solutions to the auxiliary degenerate equation. The results are based upon a fine blow-up argument, Liouville theorems and quasiconformal maps.

Abstract:In this paper we study the Dirichlet problem of a class of nonlinear elliptic equations which includes Monge–Ampère equation, K-Hessian equation and the usual linear elliptic equation. This problem becomes singular near the boundary of the domain. By carefully constructing sub-solutions we obtain the boundary Hölder estimate for the convex solution to the problem when the domain satisfies exterior sphere condition.

Abstract:In this paper, we study degenerate or singular elliptic equations in divergence form $$-\text{div}(x_n^\alpha A\nabla u)=\text{div}(x_n^\alpha \mathbf{g})\quad\text{in }B_1\cap\{x_n>0\}.$$ When $\alpha>-1$, we establish boundary Schauder type estimates under the conormal boundary condition on the flat boundary, provided that the coefficients satisfy Dini mean oscillation (DMO) type conditions. Additionally, as an application, we derive higher-order boundary Harnack principles for uniformly elliptic equations in divergence form with DMO coefficients.

Higher order Boundary Schauder Estimates in Carnot Groups

Abstract:In his seminal 1981 study D. Jerison showed the remarkable negative phenomenon that there exist, in general, no Schauder estimates near the characteristic boundary in the Heisenberg group $\mathbb H^n$. On the positive side, by adapting tools from Fourier and microlocal analysis, he developed a Schauder theory at a non-characteristic portion of the boundary, based on the non-isotropic Folland-Stein Hölder classes. On the other hand, the 1976 celebrated work of Rothschild and Stein on their lifting theorem established the central position of stratified nilpotent Lie groups (nowadays known as Carnot groups) in the analysis of Hörmander operators but, to present date, there exists no known counterpart of Jerison's results in these sub-Riemannian ambients. In this paper we fill this gap. We prove optimal $\Gamma^{k,\alpha}$ ($k\geq 2$) Schauder estimates near a $C^{k,\alpha}$ non-characteristic portion of the boundary for $\Gamma^{k-2, \alpha}$ perturbations of horizontal Laplacians in Carnot groups.

Abstract:We prove Harnack inequality and local regularity results for weak solutions of a quasilinear degenerate equation in divergence form under natural growth conditions. The degeneracy is given by a suitable power of a strong $A_\infty$ weight. Regularity results are achieved under minimal assumptions on the coefficients and, as an application, we prove $C^{1,\alpha}$ local estimates for solutions of a degenerate equation in non divergence form.

Abstract:We provide here global Schauder-type estimates for a chain of integro-partial differential equations (IPDE) driven by a degenerate stable Ornstein-Uhlenbeck operator possibly perturbed by a deterministic drift, when the coefficients lie in some suitable anisotropic H{ö}lder spaces. Our approach mainly relies on a perturbative method based on forward parametrix expansions and, due to the low regularizing properties on the degenerate variables and to some integrability constraints linked to the stability index, it also exploits duality results between appropriate Besov Spaces. In particular, our method also applies in some super-critical cases. Thanks to these estimates, we show in addition the well-posedness of the considered IPDE in a suitable functional space.

Abstract:We prove the parabolic boundary Harnack inequality in parabolic flat Lipschitz domains by blow-up techniques, allowing for the first time a non-zero right-hand side. Our method allows us to treat solutions to equations driven by non-divergence form operators with bounded measurable coefficients, and a right-hand side $f \in L^q$ for $q > n+2$. In the case of the heat equation, we also show the optimal $C^{1-\varepsilon}$ regularity of the quotient. As a corollary, we obtain a new way to prove that flat Lipschitz free boundaries are $C^{1,\alpha}$ in the parabolic obstacle problem and in the parabolic Signorini problem.

Abstract:We establish some and regularity estimates for a class of weighted parabolic problems in divergence form. The main novelty is that the weights may vanish or explode on a characteristic hyperplane as a power of the distance to . The estimates we obtain are sharp with respect to the assumptions on coefficients and data. Our methods rely on a regularization of the equation and some uniform regularity estimates combined with a Liouville theorem and an approximation argument. As a corollary of our main result, we obtain similar estimates when the degeneracy/singularity of the weight occurs on a regular hypersurface of cylindrical type.

Abstract:We prove sharp boundary H{ö}lder regularity for solutions to equations involving stable integro-differential operators in bounded open sets satisfying the exterior $C^{1,\text{dini}}$-property. This result is new even for the fractional Laplacian. A Hopf-type boundary lemma is proven, too. An additional feature of this work is that the regularity estimate is robust as $s\to 1-$ and we recover the classical results for second order equations.
