Abstract:The resolution of reconstructed images is significantly limited by the size of captured holograms in digital holography. A multiplane digital holographic algorithm based on extrapolation iterations is proposed herein. Holograms at different axial distances are captured with a shifting imaging sensor and then extrapolated to a larger hologram after padding. Multiple holograms provide multipoint constraints in diffraction calculation. Constraints based on the energy distribution and transmissions of an object are applied to extract the object function from the holograms. The method achieves a higher convergence speed for solving the inverse problem compared with the single-plane extrapolation method. We demonstrate that the reconstruction in multiple planes yields a better resolution than that in one plane.

Abstract:A novel one-shot in-line digital holography based on Hilbert phase-shifting is proposed. By weakening the ratio of object wave to reference wave and applying natural logarithmized operation on the in-line digital hologram, the real part of object wave can be well extracted. Then utilizing Hilbert transform to digitally realize pi/2-phase shift, which would make it possible to reconstruct the object wavefront from a single-exposure in-line digital hologram. Preliminary experimental results are presented to confirm the proposed method. This technique can be used for real time imaging or monitoring moving objects.

Abstract:Based on super-resolution imaging theory, a beam scanning super-resolution digital holographic technique is proposed. Applying Fresnel diffraction theory, this technique is proved to enlarge the equivalent dimension of CCD and increase the cutoff frequency of optical system, so this method can improve the imaging resolution of digital holography. The simulation verify the validity and feasibility of this method. The method of hologram processing and reconstruction is summarized. Compared with synthetic-aperture digital holography, the proposed technique needs not to move CCD camera and change the angle of reference waves that correspond to different CCD camera position for avoiding under-sampling.

Abstract:We present a new method for numerically reconstructing holography image on tilted planes within the Fresnel domain. The method is based on the Fresnel diffraction algorithm and object wave rotation transform. By suitable rotation the object wave on recording plane and once fast Fourier transformation this method can be implemented. The proposed method can render the real image of the hologram not only on parallel plane but also on the tilted. Experimental results are presented to demonstrate the method for a single axis rotation.

Single-exposure cepstrum phase-shifting in-line digital holography based on dual-CCD

Abstract:Limited by the property of charge-coupled device (CCD), the recording optical path of in-line digital holography is commonly used to take full advantage of the CCD sampling space, which is in order to improve the performance of digital holographic measurement. But the reconstructed image of in-line digital holography is overlapped by the direct wave and the conjugate image, which is hard to be separated. To achieve the real-time high-resolution measurement of in-line digital holography, the dual-CCD single-exposure cepstrum phase-shifting in-line digital holography is put forward, which is based on the single phase-shifting cepstrum technology. Then two key technical schemes of this technology, including the method of adjusting dual-CCD's mirroring overlapping position and the optical structure of dual-CCD single-exposure π/2 phase-shifting, are given. Finally, the experimental results show that, the dual-CCD single-exposure cepstrum phase-shifting in-line digital holography can solve the overlapping problem well. Moreover, the real-time recording and reconstruction of in-line digital holography are initially realized.

Abstract:Holographic techniques enable precise laser manipulation, but suffer from two considerable limitations: speckle and deterioration of axial distribution. Here, we propose a cylindrical quadratic phase (CQP) method with temporal focusing (TF) to generate speckle-free holographic illumination with high axial resolution. TF-CQP utilizes a superposed cylindrical phase as the initial guess to iteratively optimize phase hologram, realizing speckle-free holographic reconstruction on the target focal plane and eliminating secondary focus on the defocused planes. TF-CQP further disperses defocused beams symmetrically by a blazed grating, placed conjugate to the focal plane, which enhances axial confinement. Simulation and experimental results show that TF-CQP reconstructs speckle-free illumination with arbitrary shapes and <10 µm axial resolution. Compared to TF-GS (Gerchberg-Saxton algorithm), widely used in holographic optogenetics, TF-CQP shows increased uniformity of 200% and improved modulation efficiency of 32.33% for parallel holographic illumination, as well as a 10% increment in axial resolution.

Abstract:An effective approach for reconstructing on-axis lensless Fourier Transform digital hologram by using the screen division method is proposed. Firstly, the on-axis Fourier Transform digital hologram is divided into sub-holograms. Then the reconstruction result of every sub-hologram is obtained according to the position of corresponding sub-hologram in the hologram reconstruction plane with Fourier transform operation. Finally, the reconstruction image of on-axis Fourier Transform digital hologram can be acquired by the superposition of the reconstruction result of sub-holograms. Compared with the traditional reconstruction method with the phase shifting technology, in which multiple digital holograms are required to record for obtaining the reconstruction image, this method can obtain the reconstruction image with only one digital hologram and therefore greatly simplify the recording and reconstruction process of on-axis lensless Fourier Transform digital holography. The effectiveness of the proposed method is well proved with the experimental results and it will have potential application foreground in the holographic measurement and display field.

Abstract:A fast and high-resolution reconstruction algorithm with variable resolution increasing ratio and down-sampling ratio is proposed. Since the digital holography requires that the space-bandwidth product of the recording system should be greater than that of the object so as to ensure no loss of information, usually much redundant information and pixels exist in the recorded digital hologram. According to that, we propose utilizing a flexible down-sampling process with variable ratio to eliminate the redundancy. The technical characteristics are analyzed. The validity of this method is shown by both calculations based on theory analysis and experimental results.

Abstract:A method for improving the resolution of single-frame off-axis holograms based on extrapolation iteration and Kronecker interpolation is proposed to address the problem of low resolution of image sensors in digital holographic systems. Low-frequency information in the image is increased and the zero-order image is suppressed by the numerical computation in the frequency domain using the Kronecker interpolation method. High-frequency information outside the received plane is calculated using an extrapolation iterative algorithm. The obtained low-frequency and high-frequency information are then combined to improve the resolution of off-axis holography. Compared to conventional reconstruction methods, the proposed method eliminates the need to add complex optical elements to the optical path, greatly simplifying the optical system when increasing resolution. Simulation and optical experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method.

Abstract:<p>A novel holographic femtosecond laser parallel processing method based on the fractional Fourier transform is proposed, which increases the flexibility of the processing position of the parallel beam as well as the available space in the paraxial area. Computer-generated holograms are produced by combining the fractional Fourier transform and an iterative algorithm with excellent uniformity and diffraction efficiency. Parallel processing can be implemented for complex microstructures by adjusting the femtosecond laser beam using a spatial light modulator. The zero-order beam spot can be actively defocused by changing the fractional order method or exploited to fabricate various structures to improve laser energy utilization.</p>

Abstract:Digital holography (DH), mostly Mach-Zehnder configuration based, belongs to non-common path amplitude splitting interference imaging whose stability and fringe contrast are environmental sensitive. This paper presents a wavefront division DH configuration with both high stability and high-contrast fringes benefitting from quasi common path wavefront-splitting interference. In our proposal, two spherical waves with similar curvature coming from the same wavefront are used, which makes full use of the physical sampling capacity of the detectors. The interference fringe spacing can be adjusted flexibly for both in-line and off-axis mode due to the independent modulation to these two waves. Only a few optical elements, including the mirror-beam splitter interference component, are used without strict alignments, which makes it robust and easy-to-implement. The proposed wavefront division DH promotes interference imaging physics into the practical and miniaturized a step forward. The feasibility of this method is proved by the imaging of a resolution target and a water flea. (C) 2018 Author(s).
Zooming optimization for fractional Fourier holographic parallel laser microprocessing

Abstract:In this paper, a zooming relationship for holographic parallel laser foci with the fractional Fourier transform is revealed and optimized, which is beneficial for accurate control of the microfabrication of structures and micropatterning of material surfaces. Using a spatial light modulator (SLM) and a dedicated computer-generated hologram (CGH), a single Gaussian beam can be modulated into multiple laser foci to improve the microprocessing efficiency. As a new extension of fractional Fourier holography, the adjustment of the multifocal position and the detail scaling of the design target by different fractional orders was investigated by means of theoretical analysis and numerical simulation. The processing experiments for microwire pairs on a glass surface verify that the consistency between parallel microstructures is jointly determined by sampling intervals and fractional orders. Then, zooming optimization was performed for the precise and rapid patterning of indium tin oxide (ITO) films. The fractional holographic parallel laser multifocus processing method shows great potential for the processing of multilayer structural materials and complex surface topography.

Abstract:Higher resolution has always been the goal of imaging. Resolution enhancement in most holographic imaging methods are achieved by collecting more object spectrum. As a computational imaging technology, the resolution of digital holography is determined by the utilized bandwidth in both optical recording and numerical reconstruction. There is little study on whether the collected spectrum is effectively utilized during reconstruction. In this work, we propose a resolution-enhanced digital in-line holography under spherical wave illumination. The collected object spectrum, which cannot be fully used by conventional methods, is effectively utilized by the developed band-extended angular spectrum method with improved computational efficiency. Numerical analysis and optical experiments have been performed to demonstrate that the proposed method can effectively enhance the imaging resolution of digital in-line holography by extension of the computational bandwidth.

Abstract:Compared with in-line digital holography, off-axis digital holography can be used to image more kinds of objects without the limitation of weak phase and sparsity, but the resolution is lower. In this paper, we put forward a high-resolution iterative reconstruction algorithm for off-axis holography which requires only the recording of a single off-axis hologram. Interference and inverse interference processes are used to extract the object wave from the off-axis hologram. A frequency domain filter with increasing radius is used to improve the competitive advantage of low frequency information in the early iterations, while retaining the high frequency information. The constraints of total variation and positive absorption are implemented at the object plane to enhance the robustness of the algorithm. Numerical simulations and experiments show that the resolution of our method is higher than traditional off-axis digital holography. In addition, it is suitable for phase image when the object has a strong phase fluctuation, as well as for imaging dynamical objects.

Spatial resolution enhancement in holographic imaging via angular spectrum expansion

Abstract:Digital holography numerically restores three-dimensional image information using optically captured diffractive waves. The required bandwidth is larger than that of hologram pixel at a closer distance in the Fresnel diffraction regime, which results in the formation of aliased replica patterns in digital hologram. From the analysis of sampling phenomenon, the replica functions are revealed to be the components of higher angular spectra of hologram. Undersampled hologram consists of the moire patterns formed by the modulation of original function by complex exponential function. There is a one-to-one correspondence between the replicas in both real and Fourier spaces. The possibility to acquire high-resolution images over a wide field view is explored in terms of the expansion process of angular spectrum by using replicas. Only a low-NA hologram captured over a wide field restores a high-resolution image when using an optimization algorithm. Numerical simulations and optical experiments are performed to investigate the proposed scheme.

Abstract:To make full use of the spatial bandwidth product of imaging systems, grating based single-shot digital lens-free holography with spatial spectrum multiplexing is proposed. Multiple object waves are generated by a one-dimensional grating which is placed in near contact with the object to avoid the crosstalk among different diffraction orders during reconstruction. A multiplexed off-axis hologram is created by interference between the object waves and reference wave and captured by an image sensor in one shot. Multiple imaging areas corresponding to the captured object waves can be simultaneously retrieved during reconstruction, which is equivalent to increase the imaging area. A formula which guarantees accurate full FOV imaging without crosstalk or information loss is presented. The imaging experiments of a USAF resolution target are presented to demonstrate the feasibility of this method.

Abstract:We propose a holographic 3D display system which can produce images with adjustable viewing parameters and eliminated zero-order interruption. The 3D scene is generated from a 3D CAD tool, and point source algorithm is used to generate the holograms. A two-step model is introduced in the computing to generate precise Fourier holograms. A phase-only spatial light modulator (SLM) is used in the optical reconstruction, which can replay clear images for 3D diffusive objects. During optical reconstructing, the viewing angle and image size of the system can be adjusted by changing the parameters of the replay lens. A filter is introduced in the replay system to eliminate the zero-order interruption and increase the 3D image quality. Optical experiments are performed, and the results show that our proposed holographic display system can produce noiseless 3D image reconstructions.
