Abstract:Diffuse sclerosing variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma (DSVPTC) is a rare but high invasive subtype of papillary thyroid carcinoma, which mandates an aggressive clinical strategy. Few studies have focused on the sonographic characteristics of DSVPTC and the role of ultrasound in diagnosis and treatment of this variant remains unknown. This study aimed to identify and understand DSVPTC more accurately under ultrasound in correlation with pathology.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The paper aims to address the following issues: 1. **Exploring the ultrasound characteristics of Diffuse Sclerosing Variant of Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma (DSVPTC)**: DSVPTC is a rare but highly aggressive subtype of papillary thyroid carcinoma, and there is currently insufficient understanding of its ultrasound characteristics and their role in diagnosis. 2. **Comparison with Classic Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma (cPTC)**: By retrospectively analyzing the ultrasound images of DSVPTC patients and comparing them with those of cPTC patients, the study aims to identify ultrasound features specific to DSVPTC. 3. **Clarifying the relationship between ultrasound characteristics and pathological features**: The study investigates the correlation between the ultrasound features and pathological characteristics of DSVPTC to better understand its biological behavior. The research results indicate that DSVPTC primarily appears on ultrasound images as a "snowstorm" pattern or hypoechoic solid nodules, with these nodules having indistinct borders and abundant microcalcifications. These features aid in preoperative diagnosis and clinical decision-making.
