Abstract:A characterization of unconditional convergent series is given for the case of sequentially complete locally convex spaces. From it we show that if E is a barrelled space with continuous dual E', then (E', beta(E', E)) contains no copy of (c(0), parallel to.parallel to(infinity)) if and only if every continuous linear operator T : E --> l(1) is both compact and sequentially compact.

Abstract:We study a summability method called almost convergence for bounded measurable functions defined on a locally compact abelian group. We define almost convergence using topologically invariant means and exhibit two different kinds of necessary and sufficient conditions, one is analytic and the other is functional analytic, for a given function to be almost convergent. As an application, we show complex Tauberian theorems for almost convergence on the integers and the real numbers. In particular, the latter one can be viewed as an analogue of the Wiener-Ikehara theorem.

Abstract:Let {Xn;n ≥ 1} be a sequence of independent random variables on a probability space (Ω,F,P) and $${S_n} = \sum\nolimits_{k = 1}^n {{X_k}} $$. It is well-known that the almost sure convergence, the convergence in probability and the convergence in distribution of Sn are equivalent. In this paper, we prove similar results for the independent random variables under the sub-linear expectations, and give a group of sufficient and necessary conditions for these convergence. For proving the results, the Levy and Kolmogorov maximal inequalities for independent random variables under the sub-linear expectation are established. As an application of the maximal inequalities, the sufficient and necessary conditions for the central limit theorem of independent and identically distributed random variables are also obtained.

Abstract:We consider random Dirichlet series , with complex numbers, , increasing to , and otherwise arbitrary; and with a Rademacher sequence of random variables. We study their almost sure convergence on the critical line of convergence When (periodic case), a well-known sufficient condition on the coefficients a n ensuring almost sure uniform convergence on (equivalently uniform convergence on ) has been given by Salem and Zygmund, who made strong use of Bernstein's inequality. When is arbitrary (non-periodic case), one must distinguish between uniform convergence on compact subsets of (local convergence) and uniform convergence on . We extend Salem–Zygmund's theorem to general random Dirichlet series in this non-periodic case. Our main tools are a simple "local" Bernstein's inequality, and P. Lévy's symmetry principle.

Abstract:The following problem is studied in this paper: Which multipliers $\{\lambda_{k, n}\}$ ensure the convergence, as $n\to \infty$, of the linear means of the Fourier series of functions $f\in L_1[-\pi, \pi]$ $$ \sum_{k=-\infty}^\infty \lambda_{k, n}\hat{f}_k e^{ikx}, $$ where $\widehat{f}_k$ is the $k$-th Fourier coefficient, at a point at which the derivative of the function $\int_0^x f$ exists. A criterion for the convergence of the $(C, 1)$-means ($\lambda_{k, n}=(1-\frac {|k|}{n+1})_+$) is found, while in the general case $\lambda_{k, n}=\phi(\frac {k}{n+1})$ a sufficient condition is derived for the convergence at all such points (that is, almost everywhere). The answer is given in terms of the belonging of $\phi(x)$ and $x\phi'(x)$ to the Wiener algebra of absolutely convergent Fourier integrals. The obtained results are supplemented by some examples.

If this sequence of operators constitutes an approximate identity on a particular class of functions $\mathcal F$, under what additional conditions do we have $\mu_n \ast f \to f$ a.e. for all $f \in \mathcal F$? We focus on the particular case of a sequence of contractions $C_{t_n}\mu$ of a single probability measure $\mu$, with $t_n \to 0$, so that that the sequence of operators is an approximate identity.

Abstract:Based on a weak convergence argument, we provide a necessary and sufficient condition that guarantees that a nonnegative local martingale is indeed a martingale. Typically, conditions of this sort are expressed in terms of integrability conditions (such as the well-known Novikov condition). The weak convergence approach that we propose allows to replace integrability conditions by a suitable tightness condition. We then provide several applications of this approach ranging from simplified proofs of classical results to characterizations of processes conditioned on first passage time events and changes of measures for jump processes.

Abstract:We study equivalent descriptions of the vague, weak, setwise and total-variation (TV) convergence of sequences of Borel measures on metrizable and non-metrizable topological spaces in this work. On metrizable spaces, we give some equivalent conditions on the vague convergence of sequences of measures following Kallenberg, and some equivalent conditions on the TV convergence of sequences of measures following Feinberg-Kasyanov-Zgurovsky. There is usually some hierarchy structure on the equivalent descriptions of convergence in different modes, but not always. On non-metrizable spaces, we give examples to show that these conditions are seldom enough to guarantee any convergence of sequences of measures. There are some remarks on the attainability of the TV distance and more modes of sequential convergence at the end of the work.

Abstract:We prove that the convergence of a sequence of functions in the space of measurable functions, with respect to the topology of convergence in measure, implies the convergence-almost everywhere ( denotes the Lebesgue measure) of the sequence of rearrangements. We obtain nonexpansivity of rearrangement on the space, and also on Orlicz spaces with respect to a finitely additive extended real-valued set function. In the space and in the space, of finite elements of an Orlicz space of a-additive set function, we introduce some parameters which estimate the Hausdorff measure of noncompactness. We obtain some relations involving these parameters when passing from a bounded set of, or, to the set of rearrangements.

Abstract:S. Banach, in particular, proved that for any function, even $f(x) = 1,$ where $x\in[0,1],$ the convergence of its Fourier series with respect to the general orthonormal systems (ONS) is not guaranteed. In this paper, we find conditions for the functions $\varphi_{n}$ of an ONS $(\varphi_n),$ under which the Fourier series of functions $f\in Lip_1$ are unconditionally convergent almost everywhere. During our research, we mainly used the properties of the sequences of linear functionals on the Banach spaces to prove the main theorems we presented in this article. Our research has concluded that the aforementioned conditions do exist and are the best possible in a certain sense. We have also found that any ONS contains a subsystem such that the Fourier series of any function $f\in Lip_1$ is unconditionally convergent. Further, the precondition presented in Theorem \ref{theorem1.1}, which demands that the Fourier series of the function $f=1$ be convergent, is adequate, meaning that it does not make the actual conditions of Theorem \ref{theorem1.1} redundant. We have shown that the solution for these types of problems for the general ONS is trivial for the classical ONS (trigonometric, Haar, and Walsh systems).

As is well known, the latter states that for IID random variables Y 1 , Y 2 , ... on a probability space (Ω, , P ) with we have weak convergence of the distributions of to the standard normal distribution on R. We recall that weak convergence of finite measures μ n on a metric space S to a finite measure μ on S is defined to mean that for all bounded, continuous real functions on S . Equivalently, one may require the validity of (1·1) only for bounded, uniformly continuous real functions, or even for all bounded measurable real functions which are μ-a.e. continuous.

Abstract:We study the relationship between different kinds of convergence of finite signed measures and discuss their metrizability. In particular, we study the concept of basic convergence recently introduced by Khartov [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2204.13667" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2204.13667">arXiv:2204.13667</a>] and introduce the related concept of almost basic convergence. We discover that a sequence of finite signed measures converges vaguely if and only if it is locally uniformly bounded in variation and the corresponding sequence of distribution functions either converges in Lebesgue measure up to constants, converges basically, or converges almost basically.

Abstract:Following an idea of G. Nguetseng, the author defines a notion of two-scale convergence, which is aimed at a better description of sequences of oscillating functions. Bounded sequences in $L^2 (\Omega )$ are proven to be relatively compact with respect to this new type of convergence. A corrector-type theorem (i.e., which permits, in some cases, replacing a sequence by its two-scale limit, up to a strongly convergent remainder in $L^2 (\Omega )$) is also established. These results are especially useful for the homogenization of partial differential equations with periodically oscillating coefficients. In particular, a new method for proving the convergence of homogenization processes is proposed, which is an alternative to the so-called energy method of Tartar. The power and simplicity of the two-scale convergence method is demonstrated on several examples, including the homogenization of both linear and nonlinear second-order elliptic equations.
