Abstract:A characterization of unconditional convergent series is given for the case of sequentially complete locally convex spaces. From it we show that if E is a barrelled space with continuous dual E', then (E', beta(E', E)) contains no copy of (c(0), parallel to.parallel to(infinity)) if and only if every continuous linear operator T : E --> l(1) is both compact and sequentially compact.

Abstract:In this paper, by establishing a Borel–Cantelli lemma for a capacity which is not necessarily continuous, and a link between a sequence of independent random variables under the sub-linear expectation and a sequence of independent random variables on ℝ∞ under a probability, we give the sufficient and necessary conditions of the strong law of large numbers for independent and identically distributed random variables under the sub-linear expectation, and the sufficient and necessary conditions for the convergence of an infinite series of independent random variables, without the assumption on the continuity of the capacities. A purely probabilistic proof of a weak law of large numbers is also given.

Abstract:Let {Xn;n ≥ 1} be a sequence of independent random variables on a probability space (Ω,F,P) and $${S_n} = \sum\nolimits_{k = 1}^n {{X_k}} $$. It is well-known that the almost sure convergence, the convergence in probability and the convergence in distribution of Sn are equivalent. In this paper, we prove similar results for the independent random variables under the sub-linear expectations, and give a group of sufficient and necessary conditions for these convergence. For proving the results, the Levy and Kolmogorov maximal inequalities for independent random variables under the sub-linear expectation are established. As an application of the maximal inequalities, the sufficient and necessary conditions for the central limit theorem of independent and identically distributed random variables are also obtained.

Abstract:We consider a family of conditional nonlinear expectations defined on the space of bounded random variables and indexed by the class of all the sub-sigma-algebras of a given underlying sigma-algebra. We show that if this family satisfies a natural consistency property, then it collapses to a conditional certainty equivalent defined in terms of a state-dependent utility function. This result is obtained by embedding our problem in a decision theoretical framework and providing a new characterization of the Sure-Thing Principle. In particular we prove that this principle characterizes those preference relations which admit consistent backward conditional projections. We build our analysis on state-dependent preferences for a general state space as in Wakker and Zank (1999) and show that their numerical representation admits a continuous version of the state-dependent utility. In this way, we also answer positively to a conjecture posed in the aforementioned paper.

Abstract:This note establishes that if a sequence $P_n, n=1,\ldots$ of probability measures converges in total variation to the limiting probability measure $P$, and $\sigma$-algebras $\mathbb{A}$ and $\mathbb{B}$ are conditionally independent given $\mathbb{H}$ with respect to $P_n$ for all $n$, then they are also conditionally independent with respect to the limiting measure $P$. As a corollary, this also extends to pointwise convergence of densities to a density.

Abstract:Based on the proofs of the continuity of the conditional entropy by Alicki, Fannes, and Winter, we introduce in this work the almost locally affine (ALAFF) method. This method allows us to prove a great variety of continuity bounds for the derived entropic quantities. First, we apply the ALAFF method to the Umegaki relative entropy. This way, we recover known almost tight bounds, but also some new continuity bounds for the relative entropy. Subsequently, we apply our method to the Belavkin-Staszewski relative entropy (BS-entropy). This yields novel explicit bounds in particular for the BS-conditional entropy, the BS-mutual and BS-conditional mutual information. On the way, we prove almost concavity for the Umegaki relative entropy and the BS-entropy, which might be of independent interest. We conclude by showing some applications of these continuity bounds in various contexts within quantum information theory.

Abstract:The sub-linear expectation space is a nonlinear expectation space having advantages of modeling the uncertainty of probability and distribution. In the sub-linear expectation space, we use capacity and sub-linear expectation to replace probability and expectation of classical probability theory. In this paper, the method of selecting subsequence is used to prove Marcinkiewicz’s strong law of large numbers under sub-linear expectation space. This result is a natural extension of the classical Marcinkiewicz’s strong law of large numbers to the case where the expectation is nonlinear. In addition, this paper also gives a theorem about convergence of a random series.

Abstract:In this article, the complete moment convergence for the partial sum of moving average processes $\{X_n=\sum_{i=-\infty}^{\infty}a_iY_{i+n},n\ge 1\}$ is estabished under some proper conditions, where $\{Y_i,-\infty<i<\infty\}$ is a sequence of $m$-widely acceptable ($m$-WA) random variables, which is stochastically dominated by a random variable $Y$ in sub-linear expectations space $(\Omega,\HH,\ee)$ and $\{a_i,-\infty<i<\infty\}$ is an absolutely summable sequence of real numbers. The results extend the relevant results in probability space to those under sub-linear expectations.

Abstract:Let ${\sf G}$ be a locally compact group, $\mathscr C\overset{q}{\to}{\sf G}$ a Fell bundle and $\mathfrak B=L^1({\sf G}\,\vert\,\mathscr C)$ the algebra of integrable cross-sections associated to the bundle. We give conditions that guarantee the automatic continuity of an intertwining operator $\theta:\mathcal X_1\to\mathcal X_2$, where $\mathcal X_1$ is a Banach $\mathfrak B$-bimodule and $\mathcal X_2$ is a weak Banach $\mathfrak B$-bimodule, in terms of the continuity ideal of $\theta$. We provide examples of algebras where this conditions are met, both in the case of derivations and algebra morphisms. In particular, we show that, if ${\sf G}$ is infinite, finitely-generated, has polynomial growth and $\alpha$ is a free (partial) action of ${\sf G}$ on the compact space $X$, then every homomorphism of $\ell^1_\alpha({\sf G},C(X))$ into a Banach algebra is automatically continuous.

Without assuming the existence of a dominating probability measure, we derive the extensions of classical results on uniform integrability, optional stopping of martingales, and martingale convergence. We also give a theory of BSDEs in the context of sublinear expectations and a finite-state space, including general existence and comparison results.

Our main result is that if $M$ is an existentially closed II$_1$ factor with a w-spectral gap subfactor $N$, then the conditional expectation function onto $N$ can be computed from a (Turing) oracle that computes a presentation of $M$, the inclusion of $N$ into $M$, and a spectral gap function for the pair $(M,N)$.

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is the proof of an almost everywhere version of the classical central limit theorem (CLT). As is well known, the latter states that for IID random variables Y 1 , Y 2 , ... on a probability space (Ω, , P ) with we have weak convergence of the distributions of to the standard normal distribution on R. We recall that weak convergence of finite measures μ n on a metric space S to a finite measure μ on S is defined to mean that for all bounded, continuous real functions on S . Equivalently, one may require the validity of (1·1) only for bounded, uniformly continuous real functions, or even for all bounded measurable real functions which are μ-a.e. continuous.

Abstract:Peng (2006) initiated a new kind of central limit theorem under sub-linear expectations. Song (2017) gave an estimate of the rate of convergence of Peng's central limit theorem. Based on these results, we establish a new kind of almost sure central limit theorem under sub-linear expectations in this paper, which is a quasi sure convergence version of Peng's central limit theorem. Moreover, this result is a natural extension of the classical almost sure central limit theorem to the case where the probability is no longer additive. Meanwhile, we prove a new kind of strong law of large numbers for non-additive probabilities without the independent identically distributed assumption.

Abstract:Given any irreducible inclusion $\mB \subset \mA$ of unital $C^*$-algebras with a finite-index conditional expectation $E: \mA \to \mB$, we show that the set of $E$-compatible intermediate $C^*$-subalgebras is finite, thereby generalizing a finiteness result of Ino and Watatani (from \cite{IW}). A finiteness result for a certain collection of intermediate $C^*$-subalgebras of a non-irreducible inclusion of simple unital $C^*$-algebras is also obtained, which provides a $C^*$-version of a finiteness result of Khoshkam and Mashood (from \cite{KM}).
