Abstract:We define a categorical framework in which we build a systematic construction that provides generic invariants for C*-algebras. The benefit is significant as we show that any invariant arising this way automatically enjoys nice properties such as continuity, metric on morphisms and a theory of ideals and quotients which naturally encapsulates compatibility diagrams. Consequently, any of these invariants appear as good candidates for the classification of non-simple C*-algebras. Further, it is worth mentioning that most of the existing invariants could be rewritten via this method. As an application, we define an Hausdorffized version of the unitary Cuntz semigroup and explore its potential towards classification results. We pose several open lines of research.

Dixmier Trace for Toeplitz Operators on Symmetric Domains

Abstract:For Toeplitz operators on bounded symmetric domains of higher rank, there is no obvious way to define the Dixmier trace within the Toeplitz C⁎-algebra, since commutators are in general not compact. In this paper we solve this problem by constructing a Hilbert quotient module, corresponding to partitions of length 1, which leads to commutators in the Macaev class Ln,∞. We also obtain an explicit formula for the Dixmier trace of such commutators in terms of the underlying boundary geometry, which involves a new type of flag manifold defined in Jordan theoretic terms.

Abstract:We give an abstract formulation of the Dixmier trace formula for the density of states. This recovers prior versions and allows us to provide a Dixmier trace formula for the density of states of second order elliptic differential operators on manifolds of bounded geometry satisfying a certain geometric condition. This formula gives a new perspective on Roe's index on open manifolds.

Dirac structures and Dixmier-Douady bundles

Abstract:A Dirac structure on a vector bundle V is a maximal isotropic subbundle E of the direct sum of V with its dual. We show how to associate to any Dirac structure a Dixmier-Douady bundle A, that is, a Z/2Z-graded bundle of C*-algebras with typical fiber the compact operators on a Hilbert space. The construction has good functorial properties, relative to Morita morphisms of Dixmier-Douady bundles. As applications, we show that the `spin' Dixmier-Douady bundle over a compact, connected Lie group (as constructed by Atiyah-Segal) is multiplicative, and we obtain a canonical `twisted Spin-c-structure' on spaces with group valued moment maps.

Abstract:For a continuous field of the Cuntz algebra over a finite CW complex, we introduce a topological invariant, which is an element in Dadarlat-Pennig's generalized cohomology group, and prove that the invariant is trivial if and only if the field comes from a vector bundle via Pimsner's construction.

Abstract:In this article, we study various homological invariants of differential graded (DG for short) modules over a connected DG algebra following Frankild-Jorgensen. Two different versions of homological dimensions (resolutional and functorial) are defined. In some cases, they are proved to be simply the bound of the cohomology of the DG module. Some homological identities, such as Auslander-Buchsbaum formula and Bass formula, are proved for compact DG modules over a connected DG algebra.

Abstract:For any topological space there is a sheaf cohomology. A Grothendieck topology is a generalization of the classical topology such that it also possesses a sheaf cohomology. On the other hand any noncommutative $C^*$-algebra is a generalization of a locally compact Hausdorff space. Here we define a Grothendieck topology arising from $C^*$-algebras which is a generalization of the topology of the spectra of commutative $C^*$-algebras. This construction yields a noncommutative generalization of the sheaf cohomology of topological spaces. The presented here theory gives a unified approach to the Gelfand duality and the duality between the commutative von Neumann algebras and measure locales. The generalization of the Dixmier-Douady theory concerning $C^*$-algebras of foliations is also discussed.

This generalizes an earlier work of Helton-Howefor the usual trace of the anti-symmetrization of Toeplitz operators.

Abstract:In this short Survey we revisit the subject of local, identity-tangent diffeomorphisms of $\doC$ and their analytic invariants, under two viewpoints: that of explicit expansions, which necessarily involve multitangents and multizetas; and that of effective computation. Along the way, we stress the difference between the \textup{collectors} (pre-invariant but of one piece) and the \textup{connectors} (invariant but mutually unrelated). We also attempt to streamline the nomenclature and notations.

Abstract:We introduce a $\mathbb{C}/\mathbb{Z}$-valued invariant of a foliated manifold with a stable framing and with a partially flat vector bundle. This invariant can be expressed in terms of integration in differential $K$-theory, or alternatively, in terms of $\eta$-invariants of Dirac operators and local correction terms. Initially, the construction of the element in $\mathbb{C}/\mathbb{Z}$ involves additional choices. But if the codimension of the foliation is sufficiently small, then this element is independent of these choices and therefore an invariant of the data listed above. We show that the invariant comprises various classical invariants like Adams' $e$-invariant, the $\rho$-invariant of twisted Dirac operators, or the Godbillon-Vey invariant from foliation theory. Using methods from differential cohomology theory we construct a regulator map from the algebraic $K$-theory of smooth functions on a manifold to its connective $K$-theory with $\mathbb{C}/\mathbb{Z}$ coefficients. Our main result is a formula for the invariant in terms of this regulator and integration in algebraic and topological $K$-theory.

Abstract:The cone of lower semicontinuous traces is studied with a view to its use as an invariant. Its properties include compactness, Hausdorffness, and continuity with respect to inductive limits. A suitable notion of dual cone is given. The cone of lower semicontinuous 2-quasitraces on a (non-exact) C*-algebra is considered as well. These results are applied to the study of the Cuntz semigroup. It is shown that if a C*-algebra absorbs the Jiang-Su algebra, then the subsemigroup of its Cuntz semigroup consisting of the purely non-compact elements is isomorphic to the dual cone of the cone of lower semicontinuous 2-quasitraces. This yields a computation of the Cuntz semigroup for the following two classes of C*-algebras: C*-algebras that absorb the Jiang-Su algebra and have no non-zero simple subquotients, and simple C*-algebras that absorb the Jiang-Su algebra.

Abstract:We reexamine equivariant generalizations of the Lefschetz number and Reidemeister trace using categorical traces. This gives simple, conceptual descriptions of the invariants as well as direct comparisons to previously defined generalizations. Abstract:The class of $\D$-locally nilpotent algebras (introduced in the paper) is a wide generalization of the algebras of differential operators on commutative algebras. Examples includes all the rings $\CD (A)$ of differential operators on commutative algebras (in arbitrary characteristic), all subalgebras of $\CD (A)$ that contain the algebra $A$, the universal enveloping algebras of nilpotent, solvable and semi-simple Lie algebras, the Poisson universal enveloping algebra of an arbitrary Poisson algebra, iterated Ore extensions $A[x_1, \ldots , x_n ; \d_1 , \ldots , \d_n]$, certain generalized Weyl algebras, and others. In \cite{SimCrit-difop}, simplicity criteria are given for the algebras differential operators on commutative algebras (it was a long standing problem). The aim of the paper is to describe the ideal structure of $\D$-locally nilpotent algebras and as a corollary to give simplicity criteria for them (it is a generalization of the results of \cite{SimCrit-difop}). Examples are considered.

Abstract:Let k be a perfect field and A a finite dimensional k-algebra of finite global dimension (e.g. the path algebra of a finite quiver without oriented cycles). Making use of the recent theory of noncommutative motives, we prove that the value of every additive invariant at A only depends on the number of simple modules. Examples of additive invariants include algebraic K-theory, cyclic homology (and all its variants), topological Hochschild homology, etc. Along the way we establish two results of general interest. The first one concerns the compatibility between bilinear pairings and Galois actions on the Grothendieck group of every proper dg category. The second one is a transfer result in the setting of noncommutative motives.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider $\text{C}^*$-algebras with the ideal property (the ideal property unifies the simple and real rank zero cases). We define two categories related the invariants of the $\text{C}^*$-algebras with the ideal property. And we showed that these two categories are in fact isomorphic. As a consequence, the Elliott's Invariant and the Stevens' Invariant are isomorphic for $\text{C}^*$-algebras with the ideal property.
