Abstract:Ti/Mg laminates has great application potential on aerospace industry due to its excellent properties. In this research, Ti/Mg laminates, with interlocking structure which is characterized by prefabricated holes, was prepared by direct hot pressing. Reasonable process parameters including temperature, reduction and interval between prefabricated holes were established by exploring their influences on flow behavior and microstructure evolution of magnesium layer. The reasonable temperature range was 350 ∽ 400 ˚C, and reduction should be at least 47% for complete hole filling at 375 ˚C. While filling single hole, shearing zone composed of fine-grain band formed throughout magnesium layer. And its formation on micro scale can be divided into three stages including the refinement of original coarse grains, preferential recrystallization of local area and expand of fine-grain band. Coarse grains remained in the fine-grain band did not fully recrystallize due to the activation of single slip system. Filling process of adjacent holes mutual affected. Lamellar heterogeneous structure formed in magnesium layer, composed of coarse-grain layers at the top and the bottom, and fine-grain layer in the middle. Fine-grain layer was more regular in shape and homogeneous in microstructure when the interval reached 9 mm, indicative of that the optimum interval was 9 mm. Ti/Mg laminates with multihole was acquired and swallow-tailed interlock structure formed. The fracture load reached 2.12 kN with prefabricated hole, which is 16.5% higher than that without prefabricated hole. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.
