Abstract:The extensive use of carbon capture methods is severely hampered by their high energy consumption, which frequently outweighs the advantages to the environment. The benefits of carbon capture systems in reducing climate change cannot be understated, notwithstanding this downside. In the worldwide effort to address climate change, the capacity to capture and store carbon emissions from power production facilities and industrial processes plays a key role in reducing overall greenhouse gas emissions. To enhance sustainability and minimize emissions, the study assesses the impact of system configuration modifications, including LVC + RSR, RSS, and various combinations. A solar-powered scenario is introduced, involving a trough or compound solar collector, such as LVC + RSR + SCR, LVC + RSR + SCSS, TSF, and LVC + RSR + SCSS + RSS. The findings indicate that, although the TSF design eliminates the substantial energy penalty, it outperforms the conventional configuration in energy efficiency but falls short in exergy and exergoeconomic efficiency. In contrast, the LVC + RSR + SCR configuration demonstrates superior performance across the three dimensions of energy efficiency, exergy, and exergoeconomic factors, with gains of 31 % in exergy and 3.4 % in exergoeconomic efficiency, while reducing the energy penalty to 11 %.
