Non-existence and multiplicity of positive solutions for Choquard equations with critical combined nonlinearities

Abstract:We study the non-existence and multiplicity of positive solutions of the nonlinear Choquard type equation $$ -\Delta u+ \varepsilon u=(I_\alpha \ast |u|^{p})|u|^{p-2}u+ |u|^{q-2}u, \quad {\rm in} \ \mathbb R^N, \qquad (P_\varepsilon)$$ where $N\ge 3$ is an integer, $p\in [\frac{N+\alpha}{N}, \frac{N+\alpha}{N-2}]$, $q\in (2,\frac{2N}{N-2}]$, $I_\alpha$ is the Riesz potential of order $\alpha\in (0,N)$ and $\varepsilon>0$ is a parameter. We fix one of $p,q$ as a critical exponent (in the sense of Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev and Sobolev inequalities ) and view the others in $p,q,\varepsilon, \alpha$ as parameters, we find regions in the $(p,q,\alpha, \varepsilon)$-parameter space, such that the corresponding equation has no positive ground state or admits multiple positive solutions. This is a counterpart of the Brezis-Nirenberg Conjecture (Brezis-Nirenberg, CPAM, 1983) for nonlocal elliptic equation in the whole space. Particularly, some threshold results for the existence of ground states and some conditions which insure two positive solutions are obtained. These results are quite different in nature from the corresponding local equation with combined powers nonlinearity and reveal the special influence of the nonlocal term. To the best of our knowledge, the only two papers concerning the multiplicity of positive solutions of elliptic equations with critical growth nonlinearity are given by Atkinson, Peletier (Nonlinear Anal, 1986) for elliptic equation on a ball and Juncheng Wei, Yuanze Wu (Proc. Royal Soc. Edinburgh, 2022) for elliptic equation with a combined powers nonlinearity in the whole space. The ODE technique is main ingredient in the proofs of the above mentioned papers, however, ODE technique does not work any more in our model equation due to the presence of the nonlocal term.

Abstract:This article is concerned with the existence of multiple normalized solutions for a class of Choquard equations with a parametric perturbation where a > 0 is a constant, ε > 0 is a parameter, N ≥ 3 , α ∈ ( 0 , N ) , λ ∈ R is unknown and appears as a Lagrange multiplier, f is a continuous function with L 2 -subcritical growth, and V : R N → [ 0 , ∞ ) is a continuous function, satisfying del Pino and Felmer's local conditions. With the help of the penalization method, and Lusternik-Schnirelmann theory, we investigate the relationship between the number of positive normalized solutions and the topology of the set, where the potential V attains its minimum value if the parameter ε > 0 is small.

Suppose $ u(x) = o(|x|^2) \ \text{at} \ \infty $ for $ n \geq 3$ and satisfies \[ \int_{\mathbb{R}^n}e^{\frac{2n- \mu}{2}u(y)} dy < \infty, \ \int_{\mathbb{R}^n}\int_{\mathbb{R}^n}\frac{e^{\frac{2n- \mu}{2}u(y)}}{|x-y|^{\mu}} e^{\frac{2n- \mu}{2}u(x)} dy dx < \infty. \] By using the method of moving spheres, we show that the solutions have the following form \[ u(x)= \ln \frac{C_1(\varepsilon)}{|x-x_0|^2 + \varepsilon^2}. \]

Abstract:This study is concerned with the existence of normalized solutions for the Choquard equations with critical nonlinearities where N > 2 , α ∈ ( 0 , N ) , a > 0 , and I α ( x ) is the Riesz potential given by and 2 α * = N + α N − 2 is the Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev critical exponent and f is a subcritical nonlinearity. In the case that f is L 2 -supercritical growth, by means of the Pohozaev manifold method and mountain pass theorem, we obtain a couple of the normalized solution; while in the case f ( u ) = μ ∣ u ∣ q − 2 u with 2 < q < 2 + 4 N , being L 2 -subcritical growth and μ > 0 a parameter, we employ the truncation technique and the genus theory to prove the multiplicity of normalized solutions.

Here, the general nonlinearity $F$ contains the $L^2$-subcritical and $L^2$-supercritical mixed case, the Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev lower critical and upper critical cases.

Abstract:In this article, we study the following quasilinear equation with nonlocal nonlinearity where κ is a parameter, N ≥ 3 , μ ∈ ( 0 , N ) , F ( t ) = ∫ 0 t f ( s ) d s , and λ is a positive constant. We are going to analyze two cases: the L 2 -norm of the solution is not confirmed and the L 2 -norm of the solution is prescribed. Under the almost optimal assumptions on f , we obtain the existence of a sequence of radial solutions for two cases.

Abstract:In this article, we study an elliptic problem of mixed order with both local and nonlocal aspects involving singular nonlinearity in combination with critical Hartree-type nonlinearity. Using variational methods together with the critical point theory of nonsmooth analysis and the geometry of the energy functional, we show the existence and multiplicity of positive solutions with respect to the parameter $\lambda$.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a class of nonlinear Choquard type equations involving a general nonlinearity. By using the method of penalization argument, we show that there exists a family of solutions having multiple concentration regions which concentrate at the minimum points of the potential $V$. Moreover, the monotonicity of $f(s)/s$ and the so-called Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition are not required.

Abstract:In this paper, we study asymptotic behavior of positive ground state solutions for the nonlinear Choquard equation: \begin{equation}\label{0.1} -\Delta u+\varepsilon u=\big(I_{\alpha}\ast F(u)\big)F'(u),\quad u\in H^1(\mathbb R^N), \end{equation} where $F(u)=|u|^{\frac{N+\alpha}{N-2}}+G(u)$, $N\geq3$ is an integer, $I_{\alpha}$ is the Riesz potential of order $\alpha\in(0,N)$, and $\varepsilon>0$ is a parameter. Under some mild subcritical growth assumptions on $G(u)$, we show that as $\varepsilon \to \infty$, the ground state solutions of \eqref{0.1}, after a suitable rescaling, converge to a particular solution of the critical Choquard equation $-\Delta u=\frac{N+\alpha}{N-2}(I_{\alpha}*|u|^{\frac{N+\alpha}{N-2}})|u|^{\frac{N+\alpha}{N-2}-2}u$. We establish a novel sharp asymptotic characterisation of such a rescaling, which depends in a non-trivial way on the asymptotic behavior of $G(u)$ at infinity and the space dimension $N=3$, $N=4$ or $N\geq5$.

Abstract:The present article investigates the existence, multiplicity and regularity of weak solutions of problems involving a combination of critical Hartree type nonlinearity along with singular and discontinuous nonlinearity. By applying variational methods and using the notion of generalized gradients for Lipschitz continuous functional, we obtain the existence and the multiplicity of weak solutions for some suitable range of $\lambda$ and $\gamma$. Finally by studying the $L^\infty$-estimates and boundary behavior of weak solutions, we prove their Hölder and Sobolev regularity.

As usual, $\alpha /N+1$ is the lower critical exponent in the Hardy–Littlewood–Sobolev inequality. Under some weak assumptions, by using minimax methods and Pohožaev identity, we prove that this problem admits a ground state solution if $\lambda >\lambda _{*}$ for some given number $\lambda _{*}$ in three cases: (i) $2< p<\frac{4}{N}+2$ , (ii) $p=\frac{4}{N}+2$ , and (iii) $\frac{4}{N}+2< p<2^{*}$ . Our result improves the previous related ones in the literature.

We prove that each positive weak solution is bounded and satisfy Hölder regularity of order $s$. Furthermore, using the variational methods and truncation arguments we prove the existence of two positive solutions.
