Abstract:The novel few-layers MoS 2 sensitized Ag–TiO 2 were prepared through hydrothermal method, photoreduction method and spin-coating method, respectively. The microstructure, surface morphology, chemical composition and ultraviolet–visible absorbance of the samples were investigated systematically. The results indicated that the Ag nanoparticles and few-layers MoS 2 were deposited successfully on the surface of TiO 2 NRAs. The visible photocatalytic activity was estimated by degradation of methylene blue solution. The results indicated that the photocatalytic properties of MoS 2 /Ag–TiO 2 was larger than pure TiO 2 NRAs and Ag–TiO 2 . The significantly increased photocatalytic properties was attributed to the stronger visible light capture capability and the enhanced electron–hole pairs separation.
In-Situ Generation of Nano TiO2 from MIL-125(Ti) and Its Role in Boosting the Photocatalytic Degradation of Tetracycline Hydrochloride

Abstract:Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), such as MIL-125(Ti), are advanced photocatalytic materials due to their tunable compositions and functionalities. However, their practical application in photocatalysis is often limited by their wide bandgap and the inherent structural instability. This study presents a strategy to improve the photocatalytic performance of MIL-125(Ti) by hydrothermal reaction combined with an in-situ decomposition to generate nano TiO2, creating a composite with g-C3N5 nanosheets. The obtained composite exhibited a rate constant of 0.00122 min(-1) mg(-1) for the degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride under visible light irradiation, which is 24.4 and 20.3 times that of g-C3N5 and MIL-125(Ti), respectively. Characterization results indicated the formation of an effective composite structure that improved the separation efficiency of photogenerated carriers and promoted the generation of reactive oxygen species. The in-situ generated TiO2 within the MIL-125(Ti)/gC(3)N(5) composite during the preparation and photocatalysis processes not only compensated for the structural damage to the original MIL-125(Ti) but also significantly enhanced its degradation performance under visible light. The recyclability and stability of the composite material were also demonstrated, highlighting its potential for practical photocatalytic applications.
Photoelectrochemical Properties of Ag/TiO2 Electrodes Constructed Using Vertically Oriented Two-Dimensional TiO2 Nanosheet Array Films

Abstract:Vertically oriented two-dimensional TiO2 nanosheet (TNS) array films with dominant {001} facets decorated with Ag nanoparticles were synthesized on fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) by hydrothermal treatment and a successive ionic layer adsorption reaction (SILAR) technique. The amount of Ag nanoparticles on the TNS array surface can be controlled by changing the silver nitrate (AgNO3) solution concentration. The morphology, microstructure, optical, and photoelectrochemical properties of the Ag/TNS films were investigated in detail. The Ag/TNS films sensitized with five SILAR cycles showed the best photoelectrochemical properties and exhibited higher exciton separation efficiency. These excellent properties can be attributed to in situ growth of TNS with high energy {001} facets on FTO combined with surface plasmon resonance (SPR) of Ag nanoparticles. Abstract:Ag quantum dots (Ag QDs) sensitized TiO2 nanorod arrays (NRAs)/ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) heterojunctions were fabricated by a three-step method and investigated as photocatalysts. Experimental results showed that the novel material exhibited enhanced optical properties and a high degradation rate (for methyl orange) under UV light (109% compared to bare TiO2 NRAs). The high rate was attributed to an increase in the separation of electrons-holes induced by the introduction of the ZnO NPs and the localized surface plasmon resonance (SPR) of Ag QDs. The degradation mechanism was elucidated based on the band structure. It is suggested that the TiO2/ZnO/Ag nanostructure developed in our work can provide a new platform for the design of highly efficient photocatalysts.
Composite of TiO2 Nanoparticles and Carbon Nanotubes Loaded on Poly(methyl Methacrylate) Nanofibers: Preparation and Photocatalytic Performance

Abstract:Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are widely used in the preparation of composite functional materials with improved performance due to their unique electrical, mechanical properties and one-dimensional nanostructure. In this paper, the composite of TiO2 nanoparticles and acid-treated carbon nanotubes distributed on poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) nanofibers was fabricated by sequential treatments of electrospinning, hydrothermal synthesis and freeze-drying. The resulting ternary composite of TiO2/CNTs/PMMA, which is featured with a specific surface area of 83.2 m(2)/g, effectively photodegraded a series of dyes, such as methyl blue, Rhodamine B, Sulforhodamine B and methyl orange (MO). In particular, complete degradation of MO (10 mg/L, 100 mL) was accomplished with TiO2/CNTs/PMMA (20 mg) in 40 min under UV irradiation. Moreover, the high photocatalytic activity of the ternary composite, which is superior to that of TiO2/PMMA, did not deteriorate during consecutive photodegradation tests up to ten runs. The photocatalytic mechanism of TiO2/CNTs/PMMA has been explored. The desirable high photocatalytic activity, excellent stability and easy recyclability of the ternary composite is attributed to the introduction of CNTs and the electrospun PMMA nanofiber support.
Ag–CuO–ZnO Metal–semiconductor Multiconcentric Nanotubes for Achieving Superior and Perdurable Photodegradation

Abstract:Solar energy represents a robust and natural form of resource for environment remediation via photocatalytic pollutant degradation with minimum associated costs. However, due to the complexity of the photodegradation process, it has been a long-standing challenge to develop reliable photocatalytic systems with low recombination rates, excellent recyclability, and high utilization rates of solar energy, especially in the visible light range. In this work, a ternary hetero-nanostructured Ag-CuO-ZnO nanotube (NT) composite is fabricated via facile and low-temperature chemical and photochemical deposition methods. Under visible light irradiation, the as-synthesized ZnO NT based ternary composite exhibits a greater enhancement (∼300%) of photocatalytic activity than its counterpart, Ag-CuO-ZnO nanorods (NRs), in pollutant degradation. The enhanced photocatalytic capability is primarily attributed to the intensified visible light harvesting, efficient charge carrier separation and much larger surface area. Furthermore, our as-synthesised hybrid ternary Ag-CuO-ZnO NT composite demonstrates much higher photostability and retains ∼98% of degradation efficiency even after 20 usage cycles, which can be mainly ascribed to the more stable polar planes of ZnO NTs than those of ZnO NRs. These results afford a new route to construct ternary heterostructured composites with perdurable performance in sewage treatment and photocorrosion suppression.
Tuning Photoelectrochemical Performances of Ag−TiO2 Nanocomposites Via Reduction/Oxidation of Ag

Abstract:The effects of chemical states of Ag on the photoelectrochemical (PEC) properties of Ag-TiO2 composites were investigated with Ag(O)-TiO2 and Ag(I)-TiO2 prepared by photoreduction-thermal treatment (PRT) method. The comparison of photoaction spectra of Ag(0)-TiO2 and Ag(I)-TiO2 showed that only the Ag(0) containing samples had notable photocurrent under visible light (in the range of 400-800 nm), which was attributed to the highly dispersed Ag(0), according to the DRS, XRD and XPS measurements. During the photocurrent spectra measurements of Ag(0)-TiO2, it was demonstrated that was photoexcited because of plasma resonance in the visible light region, and charge separation was accomplished by the transport of photoexcited electrons from Ag(0) to the TiO2 conduction band with the simultaneous formation of Ag(I), which could be partially reduced to the initial active Ag(0) state under the following UV light irradiation. Actually, it was the interconversion of Ag(O) and Ag(I) during the alternating irradiation that avoided the rapid decay of photocurrent and ensured a durable and stable visible light-induced photocurrent. In the case of visible light degradation of methyl blue (MB), however, Ag(O)-TiO2 showed poorer photocatalytic activity than Ag(I)-containing ones. It was proposed that photoexcited Ag(I) rather than Ag(0) acted as active sites that were responsible for the enhanced photocatalytic abilities, whereas Ag(0) might contribute to the stability of the photocatalysts. Hence, the Ag-TiO2 nanocomposites can exhibit different photoelectrochemical performances under visible light with the different chemical states of Ag. This work Could have significance not only in the mechanism study but also in the attempts to improve the visible light-induced photoactivities of Ag-TiO2, by tuning the chemical states of Ag species, in potential photoelectrochemical applications.

Abstract:A composite Co3O4/Ag/TiO2 nanotubes (NTs) electrode, that subsequently photo-reduction of Ag and thermal decomposition of Co3O4 nanoparticles onto electrochemical anodized TiO2-NTs, was synthesized for enhancement of visible light photoelectrochemical (PEC) performance. The visible light response of Co3O4/Ag/TiO2-NTs with highest photocurrent of 0.54 mA/cm(2) was obtained under calcination temperature of 400 degrees C for Co3O4 (311) crystal formation. The Co3O4/Ag/TiO2-NTs electrode provided a remarkable photoconversion efficiency of 0.18% at an on-set potential of 0.44 V which was twice than that of Co3O4/TiO2-NTs electrode (0.06%). The synergetic effect for degradation of nitrobenzene (NB) and reduction of Cr(VI) was studied to analyze the possible mechanism of Co3O4/Ag/TiO2-NTs. It was proposed that Ag nanoparticle acted as bridge transferred the photo-induced electrons from Co3O4 to TiO2-NTs and then largely facilitated the electron-holes separation to enhance the PEC activity. Preparation of Three-Dimensional Ag3PO4/TiO2@MoS2 for Enhanced Visible-Light Photocatalytic Activity and Anti-Photocorrosion

Abstract:We synthesized novel three-dimensional photocatalyst-(Ag3PO4/TiO2@MoS2) with various content of TiO2@MoS2 by electrospining, sequential hydrothermal reaction and chemical deposition. The optimal content of TiO2@MoS2 in Ag3PO4/TiO2@MoS2 composites is 3.5 wt%, and the bandgap of Ag3PO4/TiO2@MoS2 (3.5 wt%) (1.85 eV) was much lower than that of pure Ag3PO4 (2.45 eV). Due to high conductivity of TiO2@MoS2 heterostructure, the separation efficiency of electron-hole pairs of Ag3PO4 was significantly improved so that Ag3PO4/TiO2@MoS2 (3.5 wt%) presented higher photocatalytic activity. More than 92% Methyl orange and Methylene blue were photodegraded over Ag3PO4/TiO2@MoS2 (3.5 wt%) in 12 min and 5 min, respectively. More importantly,TiO2@MoS2 could play the role of 'wire' to guide electrons captured by MoS2 and quickly transferred electrons into solution so that the recombination of electron-hole pairs and the reduction of silver irons were effectively restrained. Thus, Ag3PO4/TiO2@MoS2 (3.5 wt%) exhibited excellent anti-photocorrosion performance. Even after 10 cycling runs, Ag3PO4/TiO2@MoS2 (3.5 wt%) could degrade 75% and 92% of oxytetracycline and enrofloxacin, respectively, whereas Ag3PO4 degraded 23% and 44%. In addition, the possible photodegradation pathways of oxytetracycline and enrofloxacin were proposed, demonstrating that the photodegradation mechanisms involving oxidizing/shedding of functional groups firstly and opening the ring sequentially. Further detection of reactive oxidative species indicated that holes were the main active oxidizing species involved in the photocatalytic reaction process. Thus, Ag3PO4/TiO2@MoS2(3.5 wt%) is a promising photocatalyst for photodegradation of organic pollutants in the environmental protection. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
Preparation and Enhanced UV Visible Light Photoelectrocatalytic Activity of TiO2 Fe2O3/Cu Ternary Nanocomposites

Abstract:Fe2O3, TiO2, TiO2-Fe2O3 and TiO2-Fe2O3/Cu nanomaterials were synthesized by hydrothermal methods. The crystal structure and chemical valence of the samples were characterized by X-ray diffractometry (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-vis DRS). The results show that the TiO2-Fe2O3/Cu nanocomposites have been successfully synthesized and have good UV-Vis absorption properties. The electrocatalytic properties of the samples were characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectra(EIS) and Tafel polarization curve (Taf). The TiO2-Fe2O3/Cu nanocomposites have the highest cathode potential and current density, and the charge transfer resistance in EIS is TiO2 > Fe2O3 > TiO2-Fe2O3 > TiO2-Fe2O3/Cu. It is indicated that TiO2-Fe2O3/Cu nanocomposites had good electrocatalytic properties. Finally, the photocatalytic properties of Fe2O3, TiO2, TiO2-Fe2O3 and TiO2-Fe2O3/Cu for the degradation of methyl orange (MO) were studied under UV-vis irradiation. The results show that the reaction rate constants k of TiO2-Fe2O3/Cu is the relatively highest(12.91x10(-3) min(-1)), indicating the synthetic of TiO2-Fe2O3/Cu have good photocatalytic properties, which are due to the highest light utilization of TiO2-Fe2O3/Cu and the best charge transfer performance.

Abstract:Three kinds of organometallic compounds (chromium acetylacetonate, magnesium acetate and vanadyl acetylacetonate) were used as transition metal precursor, titanium n-butoxide and multi-walled carbon nanotube as titanium and carbon precursor to prepare metal oxide-CNT/TiO2 composites. The surface properties and morphology of metal oxide-CNT/TiO2, composites were by Brauer-Emett-Teller (BET) surface area measurement, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis. The photocatalytic activity of prepared metal oxide-CNT/TiO2 composites was determined by the degradation effect of methylene blue in an aqueous solution under irradiation of visible light.
Photocatalytic Degradation Properties of Ag/TiO2 Composite Films Prepared by Magnetron Sputtering

Abstract:Ag/TiO2 composite films were successfully prepared using a mid-frequency AC magnetron sputtering technique with pure Ti and Ag targets to increase photocatalytic efficiencies of TiO2 films. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction were used to examine the compositions, surface morphologies, and microstructures of the Ag/TiO2 composite films. The photocatalytic degradation of the Ag/TiO2 composite films was investigated using methylene blue (MB) as the degradation objective. The results show that the Ag film is composed of separate Ag particles when its thickness is lower than 15 nm. Because Ag is an effective capturer of photo-induced electrons, the photocatalytic degradation rate of the Ag/TiO2 composite film is three times the degradation rate of a TiO2 film with the same parameters. The photocatalytic degradation rate and transmittance of the Ag/TiO2 composite film decrease with increasing Ag film thickness since the thicker Ag films cover the entire TiO2 film surface. The Ag film will then prevent contact between the TiO2 film and the MB solution.
Facile preparation of Yb3+/Tm3+ co-doped Ti3C2/Ag/Ag3VO4 composite with an efficient charge separation for boosting visible-light photocatalytic activity

Abstract:A novel Yb3+/Tm3+ co-doped Ti3C2/Ag/Ag3VO4 composite with stable and robust photodegradation performance was synthesized by in-situ partially reduction along with hydrothermal strategy. In the composite, block-like Ag3VO4 particles are self-assembled on the surface of 2D Ti3C2 MXene accompanied by partial reduction of Ag+ to Ag0. Photodegradation results showed that the resulting Yb3+/Tm3+ co-doped Ti3C2/Ag/Ag3VO4 composite with optimal Yb/Tm proportion (Y/T:0.3/0.005) presented a boosting photocatalytic performance for degradation of tetracycline (TC) and organic dyes under visible light irradiation. The removal efficiency was 97% for TC in 20 min, 96% for rhodamine B in 25 min, and 99% for methylene blue in 20 min, which was higher than that of Ag/Ag3VO4 composite. As manifested by photoelectrochemical measurements, the enhanced photocatalytic performance of the Y/T:0.3/0.005 composite was attributed to the improved light absorption and excellent charge separation induced by the formation of intermediate energy states after co-doping Yb3+/Tm3+ ions. Meanwhile, the photocatalytic mechanism of the photocatalyst was also investigated through electron spin resonance (ESR) spectra and trapping experiments, which verified that the active species of h+ and ·O2 − play the important role for photodegradation of tetracyline and organic dyes.

Ag3PO4-Deposited TiO2@Ti3C2 Petals for Highly Efficient Photodecomposition of Various Organic Dyes under Solar Light

Abstract:Two-dimensional Ti3C2 MXenes can be used to fabricate hierarchical TiO2 nanostructures that are potential photocatalysts. In this study, the photodecomposition of organic dyes under solar light was investigated using flower-like TiO2@Ti3C2, deposited using narrow bandgap Ag3PO4. The surface morphology, crystalline structure, surface states, and optical bandgap properties were determined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), nitrogen adsorption analysis, and UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-DRS). Overall, Ag3PO4-deposited TiO2@Ti3C2, referred to as Ag3PO4/TiO2@Ti3C2, demonstrated the best photocatalytic performance among the as-prepared samples, including TiO2@Ti3C2, pristine Ag3PO4, and Ag3PO4/TiO2 P25. Organic dyes, such as rhodamine B (RhB), methylene blue (MB), crystal violet (CV), and methylene orange (MO), were efficiently degraded by Ag3PO4/TiO2@Ti3C2. The significant enhancement of photocatalysis by solar light irradiation was attributed to the efficient deposition of Ag3PO4 nanoparticles on flower-like TiO2@Ti3C2 with the efficient separation of photogenerated e-/h+ pairs, high surface area, and extended visible-light absorption. Additionally, the small size of Ag3PO4 deposition (ca. 4–10 nm diameter) reduces the distance between the core and the surface of the composite, which inhibits the recombination of photogenerated charge carriers. Free radical trapping tests were performed, and a photocatalytic mechanism was proposed to explain the synergistic photocatalysis of Ag3PO4/TiO2@Ti3C2 under solar light.

Abstract:In this study, carbon nanotubes modified with different metal ions (M=Y, Ag and Pt) were employed for the fabrication of M-CNT/TiO2 electrodes. The fabricated electrodes were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray and photoelectrocatalytic activity. It was found that the photoelectrocatalytic degradation efficiencies of methylene blue solution over M-CNT/TiO2 electrodes were better than that of nonmetal ion-treated CNT/TiO2 electrodes. In comparison of the three M-CNT/TiO2 composites, the photoelectrocatalytic degradation efficiency (76%) of Ag-CNT/TiO2 for MB solution was the best results under visible light.
Preparation and photochromatic properties of Ag/TiO2 composite

Abstract:Ag/TiO2-B composite was prepared by photochemical reduction method under different condition, with AgNO3 and brookite TiO2 as the precusors. By the visible light irradiation, Ag-TiO2 films exhibits photochromic properties. The mechanisms of the composite preparation and photochromism have been studied. The results showed that Ag/brookite composite material exhibiting photochromism could be prepared by the photochemical reduction method of Ag+ ion to Ag atom under UV light. Wavelength of the UV light, the content of Ag+ ion and additive were the affect factors. The photochromism of the material is very good in the visible region.
Polyoxometalate/TiO2/Ag Composite Nanofibers with Enhanced Photocatalytic Performance under Visible Light

Abstract:The exploration of highly efficient and stable visible-light-driven photocatalysts for the wastewater treatment has been recognized as one of the currently most challenging topics for the environment remediation. In this paper, we report a new type of polyoxometalate-TiO2 composite nanofibers loaded with Ag nanoparticles (NPs), labeled as PMo12/TiO2/Ag-X (PMo12 = [PMo12O40](3-) X represents the weight percent (%) of Ag in PMo12/TiO2/Ag samples; X = 3.98, 5.41, 6.83, and 7.19 respectively). The SEM and TEM images manifest that the average diameter of the PMo12/TiO2 composite fibers is about 130 +/- 30 mn, and the average size of Ag NPs is about 15 +/- 5 nm. Photocatalytic experiments confirm that PMo12/TiO2/Ag catalysts display highly efficient and durable activity for the photodegradation of methyl orange (MO) and photoreduction of Cr(VI) under visible light irradiation (lambda > 420 nm). In these composite series, PMo12/TiO2/Ag-5.41 exhibits the highest photo catalytic activity. The photocatalytic mechanism reveals that both Ag and PMo12 can be excited under visible light irradiation, which greatly improves the visible-light absorption of the composites. Furthermore, the introduction of POM species can not only improve the light adsorption and redox activity of the TiO2, but also promote the photochemical stability of the plasmonic composites because of the relatively narrow band gap and low reversible redox potential of polyoxoanion. Such POMs-based plasmon photocatalysts are important in ongoing efforts to designing and exploring of new photocatalytic materials with low cost, high efficiency, and durability.

Abstract:A photocatalytic strategy has been developed to synthesize colloidal Ag-TiO2 nanorod composites in which each TiO2 nanorod contains a single Ag nanoparticle on its surface. In this rational synthesis, photoexcitation of TiO2 nanorods under UV illumination produces electrons that reduce Ag(I) precursor and deposit multiple small Ag nanoparticles on the surface of TiO2 nanorods. Prolonged UV irradiation induces an interesting ripening process, which dissolves the smaller nanoparticles by photogenerated oxidative species and then redeposits Ag onto one larger and more stable particle attached to each TiO2 nanorod through the reduction of photoexcited electrons. The size of the Ag nanoparticles can be precisely controlled by varying the irradiation time and the amount of alcohol additive. The Ag-TiO2 nanorod composites were used as electron transport layers in the fabrication of organic solar cells and showed notable enhancement in power conversion efficiency (6.92%) than pure TiO2 nanorods (5.81%), as well as higher external quantum efficiency due to improved charge separation and transfer by the presence of Ag nanoparticles.
