Abstract:We give a lattice-theoretic characterization for a manifold of $\mathrm{OG}10$ type to be birational to some moduli space of (twisted) sheaves on a K3 surface. We apply it to the Li-Pertusi-Zhao variety of $\mathrm{OG}10$ type associated to any smooth cubic fourfold. Moreover we determine when a birational transformation is induced by an automorphism of the K3 surface and we use this to classify all induced birational symplectic involutions.

Abstract:We provide a modular construction of the Laza--Saccà--Voisin compactification of the intermediate Jacobian fibration of a cubic fourfold. Additionally, we construct infinitely many $20$-dimensional families of polarized hyper-Kähler manifolds of type OG10, realized as moduli spaces of stable bundles on hyper-Kähler manifolds of type $\mathrm{K3}^{[2]}$.

The Degeneracy Loci for Smooth Moduli of Sheaves

Abstract:Let S be a smooth projective surface over $\mathbb{C}$. We prove that, under certain technical assumptions, the degeneracy locus of the universal sheaf over the moduli space of stable sheaves is either empty or an irreducible Cohen-Macaulay variety of the expected dimension. We also provide a criterion for when the degeneracy locus is non-empty. This result generalizes the work of Bayer, Chen, and Jiang for the Hilbert scheme of points on surfaces. The above result is a special case of a general phenomenon: for a perfect complex of Tor-amplitude [0,1], the geometry of the degeneracy locus is closely related to the geometry of the derived Grassmannian. We analyze their birational geometry and relate it to the incidence varieties of derived Grassmannians. As a corollary, we prove a statement previously claimed by the author in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2408.06860" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2408.06860">arXiv:2408.06860</a>.

Orientability of moduli spaces of Spin(7)-instantons and coherent sheaves on Calabi-Yau 4-folds

Abstract:Suppose $(X,\Omega,g)$ is a compact Spin(7)-manifold, e.g. a Riemannian 8-manifold with holonomy Spin(7), or a Calabi-Yau 4-fold. Let $G$ be U$(m)$ or SU$(m)$, and $P\to X$ be a principal $G$-bundle. We show that the infinite-dimensional moduli space ${\mathcal B}_P$ of all connections on $P$ modulo gauge is orientable, in a certain sense. We deduce that the moduli space ${\mathcal M}_P^{Spin(7)}\subset{\mathcal B}_P$ of irreducible Spin(7)-instanton connections on $P$ modulo gauge, as a manifold or derived manifold, is orientable. This improves theorems of Cao and Leung <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1502.01141" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1502.01141">arXiv:1502.01141</a> and Muñoz and Shahbazi <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1707.02998" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1707.02998">arXiv:1707.02998</a>. If $X$ is a Calabi-Yau 4-fold, the derived moduli stack $\boldsymbol{\mathscr M}$ of (complexes of) coherent sheaves on $X$ is a $-2$-shifted symplectic derived stack $(\boldsymbol{\mathcal M},\omega)$ by Pantev-Toën-Vaquié-Vezzosi <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1111.3209" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1111.3209">arXiv:1111.3209</a>, and so has a notion of orientation by Borisov-Joyce <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1504.00690" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1504.00690">arXiv:1504.00690</a>. We prove that $(\boldsymbol{\mathscr M},\omega)$ is orientable, by relating algebro-geometric orientations on $(\boldsymbol{\mathscr M},\omega)$ to differential-geometric orientations on ${\mathcal B}_P$ for U$(m)$-bundles $P\to X$, and using orientability of ${\mathcal B}_P$. This has applications to the programme of defining Donaldson-Thomas type invariants counting moduli spaces of (semi)stable coherent sheaves on a Calabi-Yau 4-fold, as in Donaldson and Thomas 1998, Cao and Leung <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1407.7659" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1407.7659">arXiv:1407.7659</a>, and Borisov and Joyce <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1504.00690" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1504.00690">arXiv:1504.00690</a>. Abstract:We partially resolve conjectures of Deligne and Simpson concerning $\mathbb Z$-local systems on quasi-projective varieties that underlie a polarized variation of Hodge structure. For local systems of "compact type", we prove (1) a relative form of Deligne's finiteness theorem, for any family of quasi-projective varieties, and (2) algebraicity of the corresponding non-abelian Hodge locus.

Geometry of the fixed points loci and discretization of Springer fibers in classical types

Abstract:Consider a simple algebraic group $G$ of classical type and its Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$. Let $(e,h,f) \subset \mathfrak{g}$ be an $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-triple and $Q_e= C_G(e,h,f)$. The torus $T_e$ that comes from the $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-triple acts on the Springer fiber $\mathcal{B}_e$. Let $\mathcal{B}_e^{gr}$ denote the fixed point loci of $\mathcal{B}_e$ under this torus action. Our main geometric result is that when the partition of $e$ has up to $4$ rows, the derived category $D^b(\mathcal{B}_e^{gr})$ admits a complete exceptional collection that is compatible with the $Q_e$-action. The objects in this collection give us a finite set $Y_e$ that is naturally equipped with a $Q_e$-centrally extended structure. We prove that the set $Y_e$ constructed in this way coincides with a finite set that has appeared in various contexts in representation theory. For example, a direct summand $J_c$ of the asymptotic Hecke algebra is isomorphic to $K_0(Sh^{Q_e}(Y_e\times Y_e)$. The left cells in the two-sided cell $c$ corresponding to the adjoint orbit of $e$ are in bijection with the $Q_e$-orbits in $Y_e$. Our main numerical result is an algorithm to compute the multiplicities of the $Q_e$-centrally extended orbits that appear in $Y_e$.

Higher Dimensional Brill-Noether Loci and Moduli for Very Ample Line Bundles

Abstract:In this paper, we study Brill-Noether loci for higher dimensional varieties. Let $M$ be a moduli space of coherent sheaves on $X$. The Brill-Noether loci of $M$ are the closed subsets $\{\mathcal{F} \in M : h^0(X,\mathcal{F}) \geq k+1\}$. When $X$ is a smooth curve and $M = \textbf{Pic}_X^d$, the space of degree $d$ line bundles on $X$, the Brill-Noether loci have a natural determinantal scheme structure coming from a map of vector bundles on $\textbf{Pic}_X^d$, which is the main tool in studying their geometry. In [CMR10], the authors generalize this to the case where $X$ is any variety and $M$ is the moduli space of stable vector bundles on $X$ with fixed invariants but require that $H^i(X,E) = 0$ for all $E \in M$ and $i \geq 2$. We generalize these results by showing how to give a natural determinantal scheme structure to the Brill-Noether loci for any $X$ and any $M$. In doing so we develop the theory of Fitting ideals for a complex which can be used to define natural scheme structures in other cases as well, such as the locus of points where the projective dimension of a coherent sheaf jumps up. As an application of our results, we construct moduli spaces for very ample line bundles on a variety.

Moduli of codimension two linear sections of subadjoint varieties

Abstract:Let $G$ be a simple algebraic group of type $F_{4}$, $E_{6}$, $E_{7}$ or $E_{8}$, and let $\mathfrak{g}$ be its Lie algebra. The adjoint variety $X_{ad} \subseteq \mathbb{P} \mathfrak{g}$ is defined as the unique closed orbit of the adjoint action of $G$ on $\mathbb{P}\mathfrak{g}$. $X_{ad}$ is a Fano contact manifold covered by lines in $\mathbb{P} \mathfrak{g}$. The subadjoint variety $S \subseteq \mathbb{P} W$ is denoted by the variety of lines on $X_{ad}$ through a fixed point $x$, where $W \subseteq T_{x}X$ is taken as the contact hyperplane. It follows from a result in representation theory of Vinberg that the GIT quotient space of codimension two linear sections of $S$ is isomorphic to the weighted projective space $\mathbb{P}(1,3,4,6)$. In this note, we investigate the problem of finding a geometric interpretation of the above isomorphism. As a main result, for each $\mathfrak{g}$ of the above type, we construct a natural open embedding of the GIT quotient space of nonsingular codimension two linear sections of $S$ into $\mathbb{P}(1,3,4,6)$ whose complement is a fixed hypersurface of degree 12. The key ingredient of our construction is to apply a correspondence of Bahargava and Ho which relates the above moduli problem to a moduli problem on curves of genus one.

Geometry of $K$-trivial Moishezon manifolds : decomposition theorem and holomorphic geometric structures

Abstract:Let $X$ be a compact complex manifold such that its canonical bundle $K_X$ is numerically trivial. Assume additionally that $X$ is Moishezon or $X$ is Fujiki with dimension at most four. Using the MMP and classical results in foliation theory, we prove a Beauville-Bogomolov type decomposition theorem for $X$. We deduce that holomorphic geometric structures of affine type on $X$ are in fact locally homogeneous away from an analytic subset of complex codimension at least two, and that they cannot be rigid unless $X$ is an étale quotient of a compact complex torus. Moreover, we establish a characterization of torus quotients using the vanishing of the first two Chern classes which is valid for any compact complex $n$-folds of algebraic dimension at least $n-1$. Finally, we show that a compact complex manifold with trivial canonical bundle bearing a rigid geometric structure must have infinite fundamental group if either $X$ is Fujiki, $X$ is a threefold, or $X$ is of algebraic dimension at most one.

Toroidal analogues of the Grothendieck-Springer map

Abstract:We study moduli spaces of objects in the derived category of noncommutative ruled surfaces over orbifold curves to find equivariant deformations of moduli spaces of framed sheaves on equivariant elliptic surfaces. These derived categories are a common generalization of the category of modules of the preprojective algebra and of the category of twisted D-modules over a curve. We show that the birational geometry of the Hilbert scheme of points on an equivariant elliptic surface is controlled by an elliptic root system, and conjecture in general and prove in special cases that moduli spaces of objects in these derived categories provides a deformation of birational models for the Hilbert scheme. We also study the applications of this deformation to the geometric representation theory of the central fiber, specifically to produce geometric correspondences giving rise to Lie algebra actions on the equivariant cohomology of the central fiber and give formulas for the action of the Namikawa-Markman Weyl group of monodromy reflections in terms of this Lie algebra.

Moduli spaces of sheaves on Fano threefolds and K3 surfaces of genus 9

Abstract:A complex smooth prime Fano threefold $X$ of genus $9$ is related via projective duality to a quartic plane curve $\Gamma$. We use this setup to study the restriction of rank $2$ stable sheaves with prescribed Chern classes on $X$ to an anticanonical $K3$ surface $S\subset X$. Varying the threefold $X$ containing $S$ gives a rational Lagrangian fibration $$\mathcal{M}_S(2,1,7) \dashrightarrow \mathbb{P}^3$$ with generic fibre birational to the moduli space $\mathcal{M}_X(2,1,7)$ of sheaves on $X$. Moreover, we prove that this rational fibration extends to an actual fibration on a birational model $\mathcal{M}$ of $\mathcal{M}_S(2,1,7)$. In a last part, we use Bridgeland stability conditions to exhibit all $K$-trivial smooth birational models of $\mathcal{M}_S(2,1,7)$, which consist in itself and $\mathcal{M}$. We prove that these models are related by a flop, and we describe the positive, movable and nef cones of $\mathcal{M}_S(2,1,7)$.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a connected and simply-connected semisimple group over $\mathbf{C}$, let $G_c$ be a maximal compact subgroup of $G(\mathbf{C})$, and let $T$ be a maximal torus. The derived geometric Satake equivalence of Bezrukavnikov-Finkelberg localizes to an equivalence between a full subcategory of $\mathrm{Loc}_{G_c}(\Omega G_c; \mathbf{C})$ and $\mathrm{QCoh}(\check{\mathfrak{g}}^{\mathrm{reg}}[2]/\check{G})$, which can be thought of as a version of the geometric Satake equivalence "over the regular locus". In this article, we study the story when $\mathrm{Loc}_{T_c}(\Omega G_c; \mathbf{C})$ is replaced by the $\infty$-category of $T$-equivariant local systems of $A$-modules over $\mathrm{Gr}_G(\mathbf{C})$, where $A$ is a complex-oriented even-periodic $\mathbf{E}_\infty$-ring equipped with an oriented group scheme $\mathbf{G}$. We show that upon rationalization, $\mathrm{Loc}_{T_c}(\Omega G_c; A)$, which was studied variously by Arkhipov-Bezrukavnikov-Ginzburg and Yun-Zhu when $A = \mathbf{C}[\beta^{\pm 1}]$, can be described in terms of the spectral geometry of various Langlands-dual stacks associated to $A$ and $\mathbf{G}$. For example, this implies that if $A$ is an elliptic cohomology theory with elliptic curve $E$, then $\mathrm{Loc}_{T_c}(\Omega G_c; A) \otimes \mathbf{Q}$ can be described via the moduli stack of $\check{B}$-bundles of degree $0$ on $E^\vee$.

Abstract:We prove that the cohomology jump loci in the space of rank one local systems over a smooth quasi-projective variety are finite unions of torsion translates of subtori. The main ingredients are a recent result of Dimca-Papadima, some techniques introduced by Simpson, together with properties of the moduli space of logarithmic connections constructed by Nitsure and Simpson.

Abstract:We introduce a compact moduli scheme of marked noncommutative cubic surfaces as the GIT moduli scheme of relations of a quiver associated with a full strong exceptional collection on a cubic surface. It is a toric variety containing the configuration space of six points on a plane in general position as a locally closed subvariety, and birationally parametrizes a class of AS-regular $\mathbb{Z}$-algebras.

Abstract:The real locus of the moduli space of stable genus-zero curves with marked points, $\overline{{\mathcal M}_{0,{n+1}}}({\mathbb R})$, is known to be a smooth manifold and is the Eilenberg-MacLane spaces for the so-called pure Cactus groups. We describe the operad formed by these spaces in terms of a homotopy quotient of an operad of associative algebras. Using this model, we identify various Hopf models for the algebraic operad of chains and homologies of $\overline{{\mathcal M}_{0,{n+1}}}({\mathbb R})$. In particular, we show that the operad $\overline{{\mathcal M}_{0,{n+1}}}({\mathbb R})$ is not formal. As an application of these operadic constructions, we prove that for each $n$, the cohomology ring $H^{\bullet}(\overline{{\mathcal M}_{0,{n+1}}}({\mathbb R}), {\mathbb{Q}})$ is a Koszul algebra, and that the manifold $\overline{{\mathcal M}_{0,{n+1}}}({\mathbb R})$ is not formal for $n\geq 6$ but is a rational $K(\pi,1)$-space. Additionally, we describe the Lie algebras associated with the lower central series filtration of the pure Cactus groups.

Compactifications of the Eisenstein ancestral Deligne-Mostow variety

Abstract:All arithmetic non-compact ball quotients by Deligne-Mostow's unitary monodromy group arise as sub-ball quotients of either of two spaces called ancestral cases, corresponding to Gaussian or Eisenstein Hermitian forms respectively. In our previous paper, we investigated the compactifications of the Gaussian Deligne-Mostow variety. Here we work on the remaining case, namely the ring of Eisenstein integers, which is related to the moduli space of unordered 12 points on $\mathbb P^1$. In particular, we show that Kirwan's partial resolution of the moduli space is not a semi-toroidal compactification and Deligne-Mostow's period map does not lift to the unique toroidal compactification. We give two interpretations of these phenomena in terms of the log minimal model program and automorphic forms. As an application, we prove that the above two compactifications are not (stacky) derived equivalent, as the $DK$-conjecture predicts. Furthermore, we construct an automorphic form on the moduli space of non-hyperelliptic curves of genus 4, which is isogenous to the Eisenstein Deligne-Mostow variety, giving another intrinsic proof, independent of lattice embeddings, of a result by Casalaina-Martin, Jensen and Laza.

The Ooguri-Vafa space as a moduli space of framed wild harmonic bundles

Abstract:The Ooguri-Vafa space is a 4-dimensional incomplete hyperkähler manifold, defined on the total space of a singular torus fibration with one singular nodal fiber. It has been proposed that the Ooguri-Vafa hyperkähler metric should be part of the local model of the hyperkähler metric of the Hitchin moduli spaces, near the most generic kind of singular locus of the Hitchin fibration. In order to relate the Ooguri-Vafa space with the Hitchin moduli spaces, we show that the Ooguri-Vafa space can be interpreted as a set of rank 2, framed wild harmonic bundles over $\mathbb{C}P^1$, with one irregular singularity. Along the way we show that a certain twistor family of holomorphic Darboux coordinates, which describes the hyperkähler geometry of the Ooguri-Vafa space, has an interpretation in terms of Stokes data associated to our framed wild harmonic bundles.
