Abstract:<p class="a-plus-plus">The hot deformation behavior of low-density high-strength Fe–Mn–Al–C alloy steel at <em class="a-plus-plus">T</em> = 900-1150 °C and <span class="a-plus-plus inline-equation id-i-eq1"><span class="a-plus-plus equation-source format-t-e-x"><span class="mjpage"><svg xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" width="1.356ex" height="2.176ex" style="vertical-align: -0.338ex;" viewBox="0 -791.3 583.8 936.9" role="img" focusable="false" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"><g stroke="currentColor" fill="currentColor" stroke-width="0" transform="matrix(1 0 0 -1 0 0)"> <use xlink:href="#MJMATHI-3B5" x="17" y="0"></use> <use xlink:href="#MJMAIN-2D9" x="83" y="12"></use></g></svg></span></span></span> = 0.01-10&nbsp;s−1 was studied by the Gleeble-3500 thermo-mechanical simulator. The rheological stress curve characteristics of the steel were analyzed through experimental data, and a physical constitutive model considering strain coupling was established. At the same time, the finite element software DEFORM was used to calculate the critical damage value of the steel, and the influence of <em class="a-plus-plus">T</em> and <span class="a-plus-plus inline-equation id-i-eq2"><span class="a-plus-plus equation-source format-t-e-x"><span class="mjpage"><svg xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" width="1.356ex" height="2.176ex" style="vertical-align: -0.338ex;" viewBox="0 -791.3 583.8 936.9" role="img" focusable="false" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"><g stroke="currentColor" fill="currentColor" stroke-width="0" transform="matrix(1 0 0 -1 0 0)"> <use xlink:href="#MJMATHI-3B5" x="17" y="0"></use> <use xlink:href="#MJMAIN-2D9" x="83" y="12"></use></g></svg></span></span></span> on the maximum damage value was considered. By introducing the dimensionless parameter Zener–Hollomon, the critical damage model was established. Finally, the workability of the steel was evaluated by using the intuitive processing map technology. The results indicated that Fe–Mn–Al–C alloy steel is a positive strain rate-sensitive and a negative temperature-sensitive material, and the constitutive model considering physical parameters can well predict the rheological stress of the steel during hot deformation (<em class="a-plus-plus">R</em> = 0.997). The critical damage factor of Fe–Mn–Al–C alloy steel varies with the change of <em class="a-plus-plus">T</em> and <span class="a-plus-plus inline-equation id-i-eq3"><span class="a-plus-plus equation-source format-t-e-x"><span class="mjpage"><svg xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" width="1.356ex" height="2.176ex" style="vertical-align: -0.338ex;" viewBox="0 -791.3 583.8 936.9" role="img" focusable="false" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"><g stroke="currentColor" fill="currentColor" stroke-width="0" transform="matrix(1 0 0 -1 0 0)"> <use xlink:href="#MJMATHI-3B5" x="17" y="0"></use> <use xlink:href="#MJMAIN-2D9" x="83" y="12"></use></g></svg></span></span></span>, and the range is 0.359-0.535. At the same time, the critical damage factor is more sensitive to <span class="a-plus-plus inline-equation id-i-eq4"><span class="a-plus-plus equation-source format-t-e-x"><span class="mjpage"><svg xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" width="1.356ex" height="2.176ex" style="vertical-align: -0.338ex;" viewBox="0 -791.3 583.8 936.9" role="img" focusable="false" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"><g stroke="currentColor" fill="currentColor" stroke-width="0" transform="matrix(1 0 0 -1 0 0)"> <use xlink:href="#MJMATHI-3B5" x="17" y="0"></use> <use xlink:href="#MJMAIN-2D9" x="83" y="12"></use></g></svg></span></span></span>. At a constant <em class="a-plus-plus">T</em>, the damage factor decreases with the increase of <span class="a-plus-plus inline-equation id-i-eq5"><span class="a-plus-plus equation-source format-t-e-x"><span class="mjpage"><svg xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" width="1.356ex" height="2.176ex" style="vertical-align: -0.338ex;" viewBox="0 -791.3 583.8 936.9" role="img" focusable="false" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"><g stroke="currentColor" fill="currentColor" stroke-width="0" transform="matrix(1 0 0 -1 0 0)"> <use xlink:href="#MJMATHI-3B5" x="17" y="0"></use> <use xlink:href="#MJMAIN-2D9" x="83" y="12"></use></g></svg></span></span></span>. Based on the Prasad instability criterion, the dynamic material model processing map and the microstructure verification after thermal compression, the rheological instability characteristics of the steel are mainly mechanical instability and local plastic flow, and the stable deformation area is mainly characterized by dynamic recrystallization. The optimal hot working process window of the steel is 975-1050&nbsp;°C/0.01-0.032&nbsp;s−1.</p><svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" style="display: none;"><defs id="MathJax_SVG_glyphs"><path stroke-width="1" id="MJMATHI-3B5" d="M190 -22Q124 -22 76 11T27 107Q27 174 97 232L107 239L99 248Q76 273 76 304Q76 364 144 408T290 452H302Q360 452 405 421Q428 405 428 392Q428 381 417 369T391 356Q382 356 371 365T338 383T283 392Q217 392 167 368T116 308Q116 289 133 272Q142 263 145 262T157 264Q188 278 238 278H243Q308 278 308 247Q308 206 223 206Q177 206 142 219L132 212Q68 169 68 112Q68 39 201 39Q253 39 286 49T328 72T345 94T362 105Q376 103 376 88Q376 79 365 62T334 26T275 -8T190 -22Z"></path><path stroke-width="1" id="MJMAIN-2D9" d="M190 609Q190 637 208 653T252 669Q275 667 292 652T309 609Q309 579 292 564T250 549Q225 549 208 564T190 609Z"></path></defs></svg>
