Abstract:In 2009, China improved its oil price management methods and increased consumption tax on finished oil products. The Petrochemical Industry Adjustment and Revitalization Plan was officially launched, which is promoting a transformation of the industry from a focus on growth in speed and scale, to growth in efficiency and quality. The continued advancement of the new round of tax system reform and the launch of many new tax policies, has had a large effect on the oil and petrochemical industry. China has taken advantage of the drop in demand for oil and gas and the resultant fall in prices to ensure security in energy supply, using methods such as "loans for oil" agreements. The development of new and renewable energy has risen to the national strategic plane. Planned targets have been dramatically increased while the level of financial and taxation support was continually strengthened. As the task of emissions reduction continued to become more thoroughgoing, related policies were launched in close succession. In 2010, the schedule for natural resource tax reform and the application of environmental taxes such as a carbon tax might be brought forward. The price setting mechanism for natural gas will continue to be improved, new laws relating to oil and gas may be implemented, and the petroleum industry will further accelerate structural adjustments in the direction of development in scale, efficiency and cleanliness.

Abstract:Oil is considered the lifeblood of several countries due to the political need to offer energy security. Moreover, world economies depend on the state’s supervision and control of oil prices. Thus, the relevant policies of oil companies are carefully formulated in conjunction with government policymakers. Hence, the valuation of oil enterprises is of great significance to global security and economic development. As traditional valuation models tend to underestimate petroleum enterprises, this study adopts the economic value added (EVA) model and incorporates environmental, social, and governance (ESG) indicators to ascertain a new absolute valuation indicator for China National Petroleum Corporationbased on the weighted average adjusted enterprise value, providing a new evaluation indicator for the petrochemical industry.

Abstract:The transnational operations of Chinese petroleum enterprises have achieved a certain scale,but with the rapid growth of foreign investment,the risks of transnational operations are rising.In order to help meet the demand for energy due to China's rapid economic growth,it is an imperative task to strengthen the awareness and establish the mechanism of risk management.The political risks of Chinese petroleum enterprises are rising because of both the International Interest Group and the recovery of Economic Nationalism.Moreover,Chinese petroleum enterprises are facing complicated dynamic risks including the price fluctuation in the international petroleum market,the exchange rate fluctuation,the enterprise integration after enterprise merge and the new international standard adoption.It is only possible for them to attain their strategic goals by making a conscientious analysis on the composition of the risks and their trend of changes and work out practicable countermeasures as soon as possible.

Abstract:Abstract The petroleum industry plays an essential role in driving China’s economic development. In the past few decades, several reforms in the petroleum industry have been implemented; however, there are still some issues that have not been resolved. Moreover, with the new-normal economy, the transition to green energy and international trade disputes, the petroleum market is also facing emerging challenges. Therefore, the purpose of the present study is to review the historical development of China’s petroleum market, identify the current challenges and propose corresponding countermeasures for future prospects. As a conclusion, five main challenges are highlighted totally, namely lack of marketization, excess oil refining capacity, high external dependency, environment pollution and unstable international trading relationship. To address these challenges, it is encouraged to deepen petroleum market reform, accelerate the elimination of inefficient refining capacity, diversify oil supply sources, as well as improve domestic petroleum enterprises’ ability to resist price risks.

Abstract:Attributive to the internal strong vitality and dynamic mechanism as well as the government's progressive supportive policies, the Chinese privately owned enterprises (POEs) emerge fast, gradually playing active roles in undertaking overseas direct investment. However, like most Chinese firms, POEs are latecomers on the global stage with insufficient experience. In addition, their internal deficiencies and external limits make it more difficult to achieve successful overseas investment. This paper explores appropriate overseas investment strategies for the Chinese private enterprises. For successful overseas investment, POEs must take advantage of their vitality and dynamics and refrain from their disadvantages. Finally, this paper ends with assertion that the Chinese POEs with proper strategies equipped am surpass any other sectors in the Chinese economy and then play dominant roles in undertaking outward direct investment among the Chinese economy.

Abstract:China is an early user of geothermal energy, and its direct use ranks first in the world. Recent national strategies and policies have enabled China’s geothermal energy industry to enter a new era with important development opportunities. This paper investigates the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) to China’s geothermal energy industry from political, economic, social, and technological (PEST) perspectives. SWOT–PEST analysis indicates that the resources, market, and technological foundation exist for the large-scale development of China’s geothermal energy industry. However, it experiences constraints, such as unclear resource distributions, incomplete development of government regulations, incomplete implementation of national policies, unclear authority between governmental administrative systems, and lack of uniform technical standards and codes. Therefore, future development strategies have been proposed to provide technical support and policy tools for geothermal energy development. The recommendations to ensure its healthy and sustainable development include improving resource exploration, rationalizing administration systems, enhancing policy guidance and financial support, and cultivating geothermal talent.

Abstract:The growing gap in supply and demand makes China more and more dependent on overseas oil.As a result,petroleum security has become an important factor in China's economic development and national security.International oil prices have come down from a higher level,which will help enhance China's economic security in a short time,but in the longrun,it can may increase the risk of overseas oil supply.In response to the vulnerability of overseas oil supply problem,that is,the high level of dependence on foreign oil,oil supply disruption risks,as well as ability to cope with supply disruptions,China needs to adopt a Yuan Jiao Jin Gong policy(literally,it means attacking nearby countries and coordinating with faraway countries) and further promote the import of oil supply sources and the diversification of modes of transport.

Abstract:The aggravation of the problem of climate change, as well as the growth of carbon dioxide emissions, determines the increased interest of the scientific community in the development of effective methods to minimize the growing threats. The focus of scientists is China with its accelerated economic development, contributing to the growth of carbon dioxide emissions and other environmental problems. Global and regional trends are reflected in the strategies of China's largest energy companies, which confirm the relevance of the topic under study. The purpose of the article is to study the current performance of China's energy sector, their trends, and future forecasts, taking into account the strategies of the key players in the country's oilfield services market. The study used the following scientific methods: economic and statistical analysis, predictive methods, system-structural method, analysis, comparison method, observation, and description. As a result of the study, the key trends in the energy industry in China today were analyzed, and forecast values selected indicators by announced pledges scenario and stated policies scenario. The structure of supply and consumption by China of both energies from traditional sources and generated from renewable sources is studied. The regional structure of energy exports and imports by China is considered, and the country's main strategic partners are identified. The analysis of operating models and strategic directions of activity of the largest oilfield services companies in China—PetroChina and Sinopec—was carried out. Attention is paid to the problems of interaction between logistics and oilfield services companies, and ways to minimize such problems are proposed. The results of the study can be used by government representatives when planning further actions regarding the development of the energy industry.

Abstract:The low carbon economy is based on low- consumption and low emissions. The low carbon economy involves innovation and transformation in the areas of technology, systems, trade, production and consumption. China has already set an emissions target for 2020, the Chinese petroleum and petrochemicals industry is facing relatively large pressure in this regard. The low carbon economy will accelerate the development of natural gas, and in the short to medium term new and renewable energy will lessen domestic oil and gas supply pressures, and a speeding up of systemic industrial adjustment will improve the future competitiveness of the domestic petroleum and petrochemicals industry. CO2 sequestering and the utilization of technological breakthroughs will increase future development potential. These are the opportunities that the low carbon economy offers the Chinese petroleum and petrochemicals industry. Challenges faced by the two industries include: the double pressure of increasing the supply of oil and gas while at the same time decreasing CO2 emissions, the technological and costs pressure of lowering carbon emissions at each stage of production from the well to the wheel. Chinese industry is still lagging behind in terms of low carbon technology and management. Borrowing from the experience of large international oil companies and their different paths to low carbon economic development, the Chinese petroleum and petrochemicals industry should place importance on the following measures: accelerate structural adjustment, and strengthen conservation and the efficient use of resources to reduce emissions; actively research and develop technology related to the low carbon economy; effectively develop and utilize new energy sources according to specific local conditions; strengthen reserves and application of CCS and CCU technology and finally to emissions reduction management and the training of personnel.

Abstract:Based on about 20 years of accumulated experience and knowledge of oil and gas field development in overseas countries and regions for China's oil companies, the development features, ideas, models and plan designing strategies of overseas oil and gas fields were comprehensively summarized. Overseas oil and gas field development has ten major features, such as non-identity project resource, diversity of contract type, complexity of cooperation model, and so on. The overseas oil and gas field development aims at the maximization of production and benefit during the limited contract period, so the overseas oil and gas field development models are established as giving priority to production by natural energy, building large-scale production capacity, putting into production as soon as possible, realizing high oil production recovery rate, and achieving rapid payback period of investment. According to the overseas contract mode, a set of strategies for overseas oil and gas field development plans were made. For tax systems contracts, the strategy is to adopt the mode of “first fat and then thinner, easier in the first and then harder”, that is, early investment pace, production increase rate, development workload and production were decided by the change of tax stipulated in the contract. For production share contracts, the strategy is to give priority to high production with a few wells at a high production recovery rate to increase the cost-oil and shorten the period of payback. For technical service contracts, the strategy is that the optimal production target and workload of the project were determined by the return on investment, so as to ensure that the peak production and stable production periods meet the contract requirements.

Abstract:The fast-growing petrochemical industry is one of the largest energy consumers and emitters in China, exerting a strong impact on the national economic, energy and environmental systems. We provide a holistic picture of energy consumption and energy-related CO2 emissions from China’s petrochemical industry in 2012 through an environmental input-output life-cycle assessment (EIO-LCA). We combine two perspectives: (1) direct energy consumption and emissions, and (2) the indirect energy and emissions embodied and reallocated from other sectors in the supply chain to satisfy final demand in the petrochemical industry. Results indicate that the total of its direct and indirect energy consumption and CO2 emissions accounts for approximately 32% and 18% of China’s industrial total, respectively, exerting high “influence” and “induction” with regards to the rest of the economic sectors. Most of the petrochemical industry’s embodied energy and CO2 emissions comes from the “Production and Supply of Electric and Heat Power”. We also identified five other sectors key to China’s energy conservation and CO2 mitigation efforts due to their high influence and induction effects: “Smelting and Pressing of Ferrous Metals”, “Manufacture of Non-metallic Mineral Products”, “Smelting and Pressing of Non-ferrous Metals”, “Transport, Storage and Post”, and “Mining and Washing of Coal”. A systematic view of direct and indirect energy, environmental relationships, and the conveying effects among sectors is crucial for policymaking in China to achieve its energy and mitigation goals.

Abstract:<span>China's private security companies (PSCs) have become increasingly active actors in meeting the growing demands of Chinese companies operating in high-risk foreign environments for protection and security of both their assets and employees. While growing rapidly in recent decades, Chinese PSCs are relatively new in providing overseas services, remain constrained by lack of well-trained and fully-equipped personnel, and operate under legal uncertainties. Nonetheless, they perform critically important functions in protecting and promoting Chinese security and economic interests abroad. This article provides a preliminary analysis of Chinese PSCs' introduction to the overseas markets and assesses their performances against opportunities and challenges.</span>

Nevertheless ,some technical challenges will be encountered in oil and gas exploration in the future .For example ,it is hard to find new oil reserves for strategic replacement ,the quality of new reserves is degrad‐ed ,and burial depths increase w hile the geological complexity of exploration targets requires a higher engi‐neering technical requirement .Sinopec has committed to oil and gas exploration that will mainly target sev‐en kind of reserves including continental subtle reservoirs ,marine reservoirs ,tight clastic reservoirs ,pied‐mont reservoirs ,igneous reservoirs ,sea and unconventional oil and gas resources (shale gas) .T his paper presents a analysis of the main technical challenges in these seven types of reservoirs and identifies the ma‐jor technical research directions in geophysical exploration ,borehole stability ,mud logging and well log‐ging .
