Abstract:The extraction of the solid state materials "MSnBix" (M/x=Cs/1, Na/3) in liquid ammonia in the presence of different chelating agents yielded the novel Zintl anion [Sn5Bi3]3−. The anion could be crystallized and characterized via single crystal X‐ray diffraction in [Cs@[18]crown‐6]3[Sn5Bi3] ⋅ 7NH3, [K@[18]crown‐6]1.5[Cs@[18]crown‐6][Cs@([18]crown‐6)2]0.5[Sn5Bi3] ⋅ 3.98NH3, [Na@DB[18]crown‐6]2[Na(NH3)6][Sn5Bi3] ⋅ 14NH3 and [Cs@[2.2.2]crypt]6[Sn5Bi3]2 ⋅ 9.53NH3. The [Sn5Bi3]3− anion is further investigated by mass spectrometry and DFT calculations to confirm its composition and elucidate its electronic structure.

Abstract:New perspectives in GaI and InI chemistry: The salts of 'naked' M+ (M = Ga, In) ions with a weakly coordinating, fluorinated alkoxyaluminate anion have been isolated, and the stability of M+ with this anion in the coordinating solvents acetonitrile and diethyl ether has been demonstrated. The results will allow the coordination chemistry of M+ with weak ligands and the reactivity of M+ in standard solvents to be examined. Synthesis of Bi2 O3 Catalysts for Benzyl Alcohol Selective Oxidation

Abstract:Bi2 O3 electrodes were successfully synthesized by coating and electrodeposition methods respectively. The properties of the composite electrode were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and X - ray diffraction. Furthermore, the acquiring benzaldehyde via the selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol in water solution was studied. The Bi2 O3 electrode prepared by electrodeposition showed excellent electrocatalytic properties of selective oxidation, which exhibited the highest selectivity of benzaldehyde and the benzoquinone yield at the bias of 2 V.

Abstract:In this paper; the novel compounds {[(n-Bu)(2)Sn(4-Fc-C6H4COO)](2)O}(2) (1) and {[(n-Oct)(2)Sn(4-Fc-C6H4COO)](2)O}(2) (2) (Fc = ferrocenyl) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR and NMR (H-1, C-13 and Sn-119) spectroscopy. The crystal structure of compound 1 has been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. The crystal belongs to monoclinic with space group P2(1)/c. The cell parameters are: a = 1.298 8(1) nm, b = 2.465 5(1) nm, c = 3. 450 6 (1) nm, beta = 91.556(2)degrees, V = 11. 045 4(1) nm(3), Z = 4. The structure was refined to final R-f = 0.071, R-w = 0.074. Compound 1 is a dimer structure mode with a four-member central endo-cyclic Sn2O2 unit in which the bridged oxygen atoms are tri-coordinated. Each bridged oxygen atom also connects an exo-cyclic tin atom. Both endo- and exo-cyclic tin atoms are all five-coordination and have coordination geometry of monocapped trigonal bipyramid with very similarly distorted mode. Four carboxylate ligands are divided into two types. Two of the carboxylate ligands are bidentate and bridging to each pair of exo- and endocyclic tin atoms by using both oxygen atoms. The others are monodentate and coordinate each exo-cyclic tin atom. When considering further the longer distance interactions between the carboxyl oxygen in carboxylate ligand and endo-cyclic tin atom (0. 277 5-0. 286 6 nm) and between the ester oxygen in carboxylate ligand and exo-cyclic tin atom (0. 298 0-0. 300 6 nm), not only carboxylate ligand chelates to exo-cyclic tin by anisobidentate mode but also their ester oxygen itself is tricoordinated and bridges to both endo- and exo-cyclic tin atoms. In compound 1, the coplanarity of two conjugate systems (benzoyloxy group and substituted Cp ring) is not good. And two conjugate systems can not be coplanar with the central endo-cyclic Sn2O2 unit. Unlike the general compounds characteristic of {[R2Sn(O2CR')](2)O}(2), there is no center of symmetry in the molecule structure of compound 1.

Abstract:The chemistry of low-valent bismuth compounds has recently unlocked new concepts in catalysis as well as unique electronic structure fundamentals. In this work, we describe the synthesis and characterization of a highly-reduced bismuth salt featuring a cationic core based on three contiguous Bi(I) centers. The triatomic bismuth-based core holds an electronic situation that mimics the description of the archetypical carbonbased π-allyl cation. Structural, spectroscopic and theoretical analyses validate the unique π-delocalization between the bismuth’s highly diffused 6p-orbitals, resulting in a 1.5 bond order between the Bi atoms. This electronic situation places this complex as the heaviest and non-radioactive π-allyl cation of the periodic table. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the newly synthesized complex is able to act as a synthon for the transfer of a Bi(I) cation to forge other low-valent organobismuth complexes.

Abstract:The oxidation behavior of Ag-9.8Sn-1.3Bi-0.4Cu alloy powders is investigated used by XRD, SEM, EPMA and TEM. The results show that the oxidation behavior in air and air+Ag 2 O is different for Ag-9.8Sn-1.3Bi-0.4Cu microparticles, but that is similar for Ag-9.8Sn-1.3Bi-0.4Cu nanoparticles. The size of oxides formed in air is larger than that in air+Ag 2 O and the size of CuO is larger than that of SnO 2 and Bi 2 Sn 2 O 7 . The oxides mainly distribute on powder surface in air oxidation, while those mainly distribute on grain boundaries in air+Ag 2 O oxidation. The nucleation priority order of oxides is SnO 2 >Bi 2 O 3 >Bi 2 Sn 2 O 7 >CuO during oxidation both in air and air+Ag 2 O.

Abstract:The novel complex {(n-Bu)2Sn[(η5-C 5H5)Fe(η5-C5H 4)COO]2}2 has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR and NMR(1H, 13C and 119Sn) spectroscopy. The crystal structure of the title complex has been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. The crystal belongs to monoclinic with space group P21/c. The cell parameters are: a=11.753(4) Å, b=21.133(7) Å, c=23.374(9) Å, β=101.62(3)°, V=5687(4) Å3, Z=4, D c=1.614Mg·m-3, μ(Mo Kα)=1.912mm -1, F(000)=2800. The structure was refined to final R 1=0.0827, wR2=0.2085. The title complex molecule structure has binuclear centrosymmetric dimeric structure in which features a planar Sn2O2 core. In the structure the tin atoms rendered seven-coordination in a distorted pentagonal bipyramidal structure. The oxygen atoms O1, O2, O3, O4, O3A formed the equatorial plane and C23-Sn1-C27 is the axis of the title complex. CCDC: 193108.

Abstract:The cover feature image illustrates the chemical diversity of the force behind the chemistry of a bis‐phosphenium complex of chromium arising from photochemical stimulation ("the bright side") and thermally induced follow‐up processes ("the dark side"). This reactivity allows to accomplish the catalytic hydrogenation of alkenes via two complementary molecular pathways: a photochemical route, which proceeds under the action of a lightsaber (Sorry: under continuous irradiation) and involves a σ‐H2‐complex as key intermediate, or in a dark reaction in which a π‐alkene complex created in an initial photoreaction plays a central role. Another facet of the dark side is the ligand exchange reaction of the π‐complex with alkynes to produce metallacycles, which represent the products of a [2+2]‐cycloaddition and can be slashed in a photo‐hydrogenation process under recovery of the original bis‐phosphenium complex. Abstract:The Cover Feature shows a tin oxide photocatalyst with strong visible light catalytic performance. By controlling the ratio of Sn4+ to Sn2+, SnO2−x nanocrystals with controllable oxygen vacancies were synthesized. Due to the presence of in-plane oxygen defects, the valence band moves up and the band gap can be narrowed, which result in the high visible light harvesting and the excellent photocatalytic activity. The result indicates that the photocatalytic performance of SnO2−x nanocrystals can be tuned by controlling the oxygen vacancy. More information can be found in the Full Paper by H. Abstract:The cover picture shows an azacalixpyridine‐supported molybdenum(0) tricarbonyl complex on gold reacting with molecular oxygen to the corresponding Mo(VI) trioxo complex which in turn catalytically mediates oxygen transfer. The reactant and the (partly gaseous) products are analyzed with a range of (surface‐) spectroscopic and analytical methods.
