Abstract:This work presents the status and plans of the International Large Detector (ILD) concept, one of the most detailed and comprehensive detector concepts for a future Higgs factory. Most hardware groups have demonstrated ILD's performance targets and continue development with focus on improving further and making ILD fit for a circular collider. Their status, new developments and plans are elaborated. Two examples are given of new reconstruction methods that utilise hardware developments and contribute to advanced physics analyses prospects.

Abstract:The proposed high-luminosity high-energy Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) will provide a clean environment to precisely study several fundamental questions in the fields of high-energy and nuclear physics . A low material budget and high granularity silicon vertex/tracking detector is critical to carry out a series of hadron and jet measurements at the future EIC especially for the heavy flavor product reconstruction or tagging. The conceptual design of a proposed forward silicon tracking detector with the pseudorapidity coverage from 1.2 to 3.5 has been developed in integration with different magnet options and the other EIC detector sub-systems. The tracking performance of this detector enables precise heavy flavor hadron and jet measurements in the hadron beam going direction. The detector R$\&$D for the proposed silicon technology candidates: Low Gain Avalanche Diode (LGAD) and radiation hard depleted Monolithic Active Pixel Sensor (MALTA), which can provide good spatial and timing resolutions, is underway. Bench test results of the LGAD and MALTA prototype sensors will be discussed.

Reconstructing long-lived particles with the ILD detector

Abstract:Future e$^+$e$^-$ colliders, thanks to their clean environment and triggerless operation, offer a unique opportunity to search for long-lived particles (LLPs). Considered in this contribution are promising prospects for LLP searches offered by the International Large Detector (ILD), with a Time Projection Chamber (TPC) as the core of its tracking systems, providing almost continuous tracking. The ILD has been developed as a detector concept for the ILC, however, studies on understanding of the ILD performance at other collider concepts are ongoing. Based on the full detector simulation, we study the possibility of reconstructing decays of both light and heavy LLPs at the ILD. For the heavy, $\mathcal{O}$(100 GeV) LLPs, we consider a challenging scenario with small mass splitting between the LLP and the dark matter candidate, resulting in only a very soft displaced track pair in the final state, not pointing to the interaction point. We account for the soft beam-induced background (from measurable e$^+$e$^-$ pairs and hadron photo-production processes), expected to give the dominant background contribution due to a very high cross section, and show the possible means of its reduction. As the opposite extreme scenario we consider the production of a light, $\mathcal{O}$(1 GeV) pseudo-scalar LLP, which decays to two highly boosted and almost colinear displaced tracks. We also present the corresponding results for an alternative ILD design, where the TPC is replaced by a silicon tracker modified from the Compact Linear Collider detector (CLICdet) design.

Abstract:The ATLAS experiment at the LHC is building several detector systems for forward physics studies and to determine the luminosity. The main forward systems consist of a Cerenkov detector called LUCID, a Zero Degree Calorimeter (ZDC) and Roman Pots which will house a scintillating fiber tracker system called ALFA. Here we report some of the forward physics activities that are foreseen in ATLAS together with the status of the related detector systems.

Abstract:The R&D Collaboration SiLC (Silicon tracking for Linear Colliders) is based on generic R&D aiming to develop the next generation of large Silicon tracking systems for the Linear collider experiments; it serves all three ILC detector concepts. There is a strong involvement in ILD, a natural collaboration with SiD and recent 4th concept interest to use Silicon tracking technology as well. Here is a very brief summary of the latest results on sensors, Front End Electronics, Mechanics and Integration issues, test bench and test beam results and where to go from there.

Abstract:High precision physics at future colliders as the International Linear Collider (ILC) require unprecedented high precision in the determination of the energy of final state particles. The needed precision will be achieved thanks to the Particle Flow algorithms (PF) which require highly granular and hermetic calorimeters <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://systems.The" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> physical proof of concept of the PF was performed in the previous campaign of beam tests of physic prototypes within the CALICE collaboration. One of these prototypes was the physics prototype of the Silicon-Tungsten Electromagnetic Calorimeter (SiW-ECAL) for the ILC. In this document we present the latest news on R\&D of the next generation prototype, the technological prototype with fully embedded very front-end (VFE) electronics, of the SiW-ECAL. Special emphasis is given to the presentation and discussion of the first results from the beam test done at DESY in June 2017. The physics program for such beam test consisted in the calibration and commissioning of the current set of available SiW ECAL modules; the test of performance of individual slabs under 1T magnetic fields; and the study of electromagnetic showers events.

Abstract:The International Large Detector (ILD) is one of the proposed detector concepts for the International Linear Collider (ILC). The work on the ILD machine-detector interface (MDI) concentrates on the optimisation of the experimental area design for the operation and maintenance of the detector. The ILC will use a push-pull system to allow the operation of two detectors at one interaction region. The special requirements of this system pose technical constraints to the interaction region and the design of both detectors.

Abstract:The SiD Detector is one of two detector designs for the future International Linear Collider (ILC) that were validated in 2012 SiD features a compact, cost-constrained design for precision Higgs and other measurements, and sensitivity to a wide range of possible new phenomena. A robust silicon vertex and tracking system, combined with a five Tesla central solenoidal field, provides excellent momentum resolution. The highly granular calorimeter system is optimized for Particle Flow application to achieve very good jet energy resolution over a wide range of energies. With a potential construction date of the ILC moving closer, it is now the time to review the design and technology decision that have been made during the DBD phase and reconsider them in the light of the recent technological advances. For each area of SiD development R&D topics and opportunities for participation will be discussed.
Status of Dual-readout R&D for a linear collider in T1015 Collaboration

Abstract:The hadronic energy resolution required for an hadronic operating at lepton collider is at the limits or even exceeds that obtained with traditional techniques. Furthermore, it is a well established fact that the presence of an electromagnetic section in front of an hadron calorimeter, as occurs in the layouts of the majority of detectors operating at a collider, would deteriorate the hadronic energy resolution of the device. The novel $ADRIANO$ technology (\textit{A Dual-readout Integrally Active Non-segmented Option}), currently under development at Fermilab, overcomes the above limitations by complementing an integrally active calorimeter with the dual-readout technique. Detailed Monte Carlo studies indicate that the energy resolution is in the $25\%/\sqrt{E}$ - $38\%/\sqrt{E}$ interval with a linear response of the detector up to an energy of 200 GeV. A baseline configuration is chosen with an estimated energy resolution of $\sigma(E)/E\approx30\%/\sqrt{E}$. Several prototypes have been built by \textit{T1015} Collaboration at Fermilab, to explore the effect of modifications of the layout from the baseline configuration. Preliminary results from several test beams at the \textit{Fermilab Test Beam Facility} (FTBF) of $\sim1\lambda_{I}$ prototypes are presented. Future prospects with ultra-heavy glass are, also, summarized.

Abstract:We report the status of R&D on large triple-GEM detectors for a forward tracker (FT) in an experiment at a future Electron Ion Collider (EIC) that will improve our understanding of QCD. We have designed a detector prototype specifically targeted for the EIC-FT, which has a trapezoidal shape with 30.1 degrees opening angle. We are investigating different detector assembly techniques and signal readout technologies, but have designed a common GEM foil to minimize NRE cost for foil production. The assembly techniques comprise either a purely mechanical method including foil stretching as pioneered by CMS but with certain modifications, or gluing foils to frames that are then assembled mechanically, or gluing foils to frames that are then glued together. The first two assembly techniques allow for re-opening chambers so that a GEM foil can be replaced if it is damaged. For readout technologies, we are pursuing a cost-effective one-dimensional readout with wide zigzag strips that maintains reasonable spatial resolution, as well two-dimensional readouts - one with stereo-angle (u-v) strips and another with r-phi strips. In addition, we aim at an overall low-mass detector design to facilitate good energy resolution for electrons scattered at low momenta. We present design for GEM foils and other detector parts, which we plan to entirely acquire from U.S. companies.

Abstract:The Fermilab Linac is a roughly 145 meter linear accelerator that accelerates H- beam from 750 keV to 400 MeV and provides beam for the Booster and the rest of the accelerator chain. The first section of the Linac is a Drift-Tube Linac (DTL), which in its current state, suffers from a lack of instrumentation along its length. As a result, operational staff do not have access to the diagnostic information needed to tune the critical components of this accelerator, such as the quadrupole magnets within the drift tubes. This work presents an effort to utilize both fixed and translating scintillation detectors to investigate beam loss along the first two cavities of the DTL.

Abstract:Calorimeters with silicon detectors have many unique features and are proposed for several world-leading experiments. We describe the R&D program of the large scale detector element with up to 12 000 readout channels for the International Large Detector (ILD) at the future e+e- ILC collider. The program is focused on the readout front-end electronics embedded inside the calorimeter. The first part with 2 000 channels and two small silicon sensors has already been constructed, the full prototype is planned for the beginning of 2018.

Abstract:The long slab is a new prototype for the SiW-Ecal, a silicon tungsten electromagnetic calorimeter for the ILD detector of the future International Linear Collider. This new prototype has been designed to demonstrate the ability to build a full length detecting layer (1.60m for the ILD barrel). Indeed, this length induces difficulties for clock and signal propagation and data integrity. The design used for short length slabs had to be adapted on the basis of a simulation study. The long slab performance has been tested with cosmics, radioactive source and with 3 GeV electrons in the beam tests at DESY, Hamburg. The results of the per-channel calibration of the detector are presented. In DESY beam tests we have accumulated data for both normal and inclined incidence of the beam. With the latter one particle can sometimes traverse two pixels and deposit less energy per pixel. We show how this can be used to measure the position of the trigger threshold. This new prototype gives us a lot of hints on how to improve the design of the front-end electronics. It is also a convenient tool to estimate the key characteristics of ILD SiW-Ecal (like power consumption, cooling, readout time etc.) and to optimize the future design of the detector.

Abstract:IFMIF-DONES plant [1] (International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facility – DEMO Oriented Neutron Source) is currently being developed under the framework of a work package of the EUROfusion Consortium. It will be a facility located at the south of Spain in Granada. Its objective and main goal is the testing and qualification of fusion materials by the generation of a neutron flux with a broad energy distribution covering the typical neutron spectrum of a (D-T) fusion reactor. This is achieved by the Li (d,xn) nuclear reactions occurring in a liquid lithium target where a 40 MeV at 125 mA deuteron beam with a variable beam footprint between 200 mm × 50 mm and 100 mm × 50mm collides. The Accelerator Systems is in charge of providing such high energy deuterons to produce the required neutron flux. The High Energy Beam Transport line (HEBT) is the last subsystem of the IFMIF-DONES accelerator, and its main functions are to guide the deuteron beam towards the liquid lithium target and to shape it with the required rectangular reference beam footprints. The HEBT system includes a Beam Dump devoted to stop the beam during commissioning and start-up phases. The present work details the present status of the HEBT engineering design, including beam dynamics, vacuum configuration, radioprotection, beam diagnostics devices and remote handling analyses performed detailing the layout and integration of required components through-out the beamline.

Further detector geometry optimization with a new magnet and technology down selection are underway by the ePIC collaboration. The latest ePIC vertex and tracking detector geometry and its performance evaluated in simulation will be presented. Abstract:A new powerful longitudinal diagnostics is being developed for the two CERN's antiproton machines, the Antiproton Decelerator (AD) and the Extra Low ENergy ANtiproton (ELENA) ring. The longitudinal diagnostics receives data from the Low-Level Radiofrequency (LLRF) system via optical fiber. Real time processing of gigabit data-streams is enabled by its computational resources and real-time operating system. Measurement of intensity, bunch length and turn-by-turn bunch profiles are available for bunched beams. Intensity, momentum spread and average frequency will soon be measured for debunched beams. The system will provide essential input to setup and monitor RF and cooling systems. It will also be used by operators to monitor each machine's performances and the overall efficiency of the antiproton chain. This paper shows the data acquisition/processing mechanism and preliminary bunched beam results for AD. Next steps and plans for exporting the system to other CERN machines equipped with the same LLRF system are also mentioned.

Abstract:The harsh machine background at the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) forms a strong constraint on the design of the innermost part of the tracker. For the CLIC Conceptual Design Report, the detector concepts developed for the International Linear Collider (ILC) were adapted to the CLIC environment. We present the new layout for the Vertex Detector and the Forward Tracking Disks of the CLIC detector concepts, as well as the background levels in these detectors. We also study the dependence of the background rates on technology parameters like thickness of the active layer and detection threshold.
