Abstract:Based on the traditional concave hexagonal honeycomb structure, three kinds of concave hexagonal honeycomb structures were compared. The relative densities of traditional concave hexagonal honeycomb structures and three other classes of concave hexagonal honeycomb structures were derived using the geometric structure. The impact critical velocity of the structures was derived by using the 1-D impact theory. The in-plane impact characteristics and deformation modes of three kinds of similar concave hexagonal honeycomb structures in the concave direction at low, medium, and high velocity were analyzed using the finite element software ABAQUS. The results showed that the honeycomb structure of the cells of the three types undergoes two stages: concave hexagons and parallel quadrilaterals, at low velocity. For this reason, there are two stress platforms in the process of strain. With the increase in the velocity, the joints and middle of some cells form a glue-linked structure due to inertia. No excessive parallelogram structure appears, resulting in the blurring or even disappearance of the second stress platform. Finally, effects of different structural parameters on the plateau stress and energy absorption of structures similar to concave hexagons were obtained during low impact. The results provide a powerful reference for the negative Poisson's ratio honeycomb structure under multi-directional impact.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to study the concave - impact performance of concave - like hexagonal honeycomb structures at different impact velocities. Specifically, by comparing the relative densities and critical velocities of three new - type concave - like hexagonal honeycomb structures (SCEH, TMH, LMH) with the traditional concave - like hexagonal honeycomb structure (RHH), the paper analyzes the in - plane impact characteristics and deformation modes of these structures under low - speed, medium - speed and high - speed impact conditions. The main objectives of the research include: 1. **Analyze the deformation modes at different impact velocities**: Through the simulation of the finite - element software ABAQUS, the deformation modes of the three concave - like hexagonal honeycomb structures under low - speed, medium - speed and high - speed impact conditions are analyzed. The research finds that under low - speed impact, these structures experience two - stage deformation: concave hexagon and parallelogram, so two stress platforms appear during the strain process. As the velocity increases, the connection parts and the middle parts of some units form a glued structure due to inertia, resulting in the reduction of the parallelogram structure, and the second stress platform becomes blurred or even disappears. 2. **Evaluate the influence of different structural parameters on energy absorption**: The influence of different structural parameters (such as unit size, thickness, etc.) on the energy absorption capacity and platform stress of the structure is studied. The results show that there are significant differences in the energy absorption capacities of different structures under low - speed impact, and among them, the LMH structure shows the best energy absorption effect when the strain is greater than 0.5. 3. **Provide references under multi - directional impact**: The research results provide a strong reference for the performance of negative Poisson's ratio honeycomb structures under multi - directional impact, which is helpful for designing materials and structures with better impact - resistance performance. In general, through detailed experiments and numerical analysis, this paper reveals the dynamic response and energy absorption characteristics of concave - like hexagonal honeycomb structures at different impact velocities, providing an important theoretical basis for research and application in related fields.
