Abstract:The synthesis of copper nanowires (CuNWs) using modified polyols with hexadecylamine or octadecylamine as capping agents, known for their ease of operation, rapid reaction, and suitability for mass production, often encounters challenges such as the presence of copper particles, numerous copper nanorods, difficulty in purifying organic compounds, and air instability as by-products. In addressing these issues, this study introduces an innovative multiphase ultrasonic-assisted separation method. By utilizing ultrasound to accelerate the dissolution of hexadecylamine and facilitate the separation movement of CuNWs and by-products in hydrophilic and hydrophobic phases, the aim of achieving high purification of CuNWs is realized. Through the introduction of an ultra-thin hexadecylamine layer ( 3.5 nm) on the surface of CuNWs and leveraging the active adsorption of silver seed crystals, combined with the control CuNWs reaction concentration, silver-coated CuNWs with a dense and uniform surface thickness of 12–15 nm are obtained. By enhancing purity, stability, and cost-effectiveness, this research represents a significant advancement in the field of one-dimensional nanowires and their devices.

Abstract:Heat, ultrasonic, microwave, and external energy are the essential conditions in the conventional preparation of nano-cupric oxide (CuO) from copper hydroxide (Cu(OH) 2 ) precursor. In this work, CuSO 4 aqueous solution (0.02 mol) was gradually added dropwise into the methanol/sodium hydroxide (NaOH/CH 3 OH) solution (0.04 mol) in 20 min at normal temperature and then constantly stirred the black solution for about 5 min; nano-CuO was synthesized. The as-prepared CuO had a high purity and a regular nanosize of 4–10 nm. What is more, the by-product sodium sulfate (Na 2 SO 4 ) could be separated using a high-speed centrifuge, indicating that the methanol could be conveniently recycled; thereby, an environmentally friendly sustainable route of the preparation of nano-CuO was developed. In addition, the as-prepared nano-CuO was melt-compounded with polyamide 6 to produce fiber composites. The results showed that the nano-CuO was uniformly dispersed in PA6 fiber composites and presented an excellent antibacterial performance. Most importantly, the function of methanol in the dehydration process was revealed.

Abstract:Ultrafine copper powders were prepared by direct reduction method with hydrazine hydrate and formaldehyde as composite reductive agent and glucose prereduction method, respectively. XRD and SEM analysis revealed that pure copper powders with single crystal 1 mu m can be prepared using hydrazine hydrate and formaldehyde as composite reductive agent. It exhibits good dispersity and stability in air. The grain size of the copper single crystals could be further increased to 2 mu m by glucose prereduction method, and the uniformity and diversity have also been improved.

Abstract:The progress in the research of preparing ultrafine copper powder by chemical reduction method is systematically summarized, with the highlight on the effect of reductive agents on the process, such as formaldehyde, ascorbic acid, sodium hypophosphite, potassium borohydride and hydrazine hydrate. Meanwhile, the factors influencing the nucleation and growth mechanism in the process are described briefly, including the solution pH value, temperature, reactants concentration, dispersant and protector. The present challenges in the process research are pointed out and the future research orientation is proposed.

Abstract:A facile chemical reduction method has been developed to fabricate ultrafine copper nanoparticles whose sizes can be controlled down to ca. 1 nm by using poly( N -vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) as the stabilizer and sodium borohyrdride as the reducing agent in an alkaline ethylene glycol (EG) solvent. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) results and UV–vis absorption spectra demonstrated that the as-prepared particles were well monodispersed, mostly composed of pure metallic Cu nanocrystals and extremely stable over extended period of simply sealed storage.
The Preparation of an Ultrafine Copper Powder by the Hydrogen Reduction of an Ultrafine Copper Oxide Powder and Reduction Kinetics

Abstract:Ultrafine copper powders were prepared by the air-jet milling of copper oxide (CuO) powders and a subsequent hydrogen (H2) reduction. After milling, the particle size and grain size of CuO powders decreased, while the specific surface area and structural microstrain increased, thereby improving the reaction activity. In a pure H2 atmosphere, the process of CuO reduction was conducted in one step, and followed a pseudo-first-order kinetics model. The smaller CuO powders after milling exhibited higher reduction rates and lower activation energies compared with those without milling. Based on the unreacted shrinking core model, the reduction of CuO powders via H2 was controlled by the interface reaction at the early stage, whereas the latter was limited by the diffusion of H2 through the solid product layer. Additionally, the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) indicated that copper powders after H2 reduction presented a spherical-like shape, and the sintering and agglomeration between particles occurred after 300 °C, which led to a moderate increase in particle size. The preparing parameters (at 400 °C for 180 min) were preferred to obtain ultrafine copper powders with an average particle size in the range of 5.43–6.72 μm and an oxygen content of less than 0.2 wt.%.

Abstract:Supercritical hydrothermal synthesis (SCHS) is a promising technique for the preparation of copper oxide nanoparticles with fast reaction rate, green efficiency and low cost. In this paper, nanoparticles of copper oxide ranging from 53.0 to 94.0 nm were synthesized by supercritical hydrothermal method. The effects of different precursor concentrations, alkali addition, reaction pressure, reaction temperature and reaction time on the particle size, morphology and particle uniformity of copper oxide nanoparticles were also investigated, and the mechanism of each parameter was analyzed. The growth kinetic equation of copper oxide nanoparticles under supercritical hydrothermal conditions was established by analyzing the influence laws of temperature and reaction time on the grain size of the products. Further, the growth activation energy and the growth mechanism controlled by the grain surface process was obtained. The formation mechanism of copper oxide nanoparticles in rod form was analyzed by TEM results.

Abstract:This paper studied the effect of diverse parameters (reaction time, precursor concentration and molar ratio of alkali to copper ions) on different sizes of copper particles production. In all experiments, over 99 % of Cu 2+ is converted to Cu. The results show that under conditions of shorter reaction time (5 min), lower precursor concentration (0.01 M), and ideal molar ratio of alkali to copper ions ([OH − ]:[Cu 2+ ] = 1), copper nanoparticles are produced with good dispersity, and an average diameter of 33.05 ± 9.34 nm. The study proposes a mechanism that involves organic adsorption on the surfaces of copper nuclei. This implies that promoting ligand adsorption on copper nuclei surfaces is key to producing smaller particles, since it limits nanoparticle growth. Furthermore, H 2 and CO both contribute to the reduction of Cu 2+ to Cu. H 2 serves as the primary reducing agent, from the analysis of gaseous products. The study proposes a mechanism for nanocopper size control.

Abstract:Electrochemical conversion of CO2 into value-added chemicals such as formic acid (HCOOH) has gained tremendous interests. Sulfide-derived copper has been shown recently to be selective for HCOOH production. However, the rich composition and morphology variation of copper sulfides on their electrochemical CO2 reduction have yet to be investigated. Herein, we report a simple ethylene glycol solvothermal route to synthesize copper sulfides nanocrystals, with their morphology and composition varied by tuning the Cu/S feed ratio and reaction temperatures. When being applied to the electrochemical reduction of CO2 to HCOOH, CuS nanoflowers exhibited high Faradic efficiency (similar to 52%) due to its high S content and specific morphology, compared to their more Cu-rich counterparts. Abstract:Supercritical hydrothermal synthesis is a green synthesis method for metal and metal oxide ultra-fine particles. Ultra-fine copper particles are of great interests for the researchers because of the excellent performance in recent years. In this paper, supercritical hydrothermal synthesis of copper ultra-fine particles with three different precursors (CuSO4, Cu(NO3)2, Cu(HCOO)2) are reported. This thesis reports that different products are produced with different precursors. Also, three kinds of reaction mechanisms with different precursors in supercritical water were explained. The conversion of copper ions in the reaction of Cu(HCOO)2 in supercritical water is the highest, the value reaches 100.0%. Abstract:Mo-Cu nano-particles were synthesized by a microwave-assisted aqueous solution strategy and subsequent low-temperature hydrogen reduction process. Microwave radiation can promote nucleation in the aqueous solution resulting in fine particles with a high specific surface area, so they can be reduced at an ultra-low temperature. The prepared Mo-Cu composite powders with size ranging from 10 to 50 nm possess a Mo@Cu core-shell structure in their grains, whose relative density can reach up to 99.4% after being sintered at 1150 C for 1.5 h. Abstract:The development of solvent-free techniques for nanoparticles synthesis is one of the challenges of Green chemistry. In this work, the principled opportunity to obtain copper-containing nanosized particles without use of any solvents was shown. The copper complexes were prepared as precursors by the melting-assisted solvent-free synthesis. The formation of tetra(imidazole)copper(II) nitrate complex was confirmed by XRD, elemental analysis, FTIR spectroscopy, and thermal analysis. It was noted that their thermal decomposition occurs in two stages: (I) the low-temperature step may be related to redox interaction between organic ligands and nitrate-anions; (II) the high-temperature step may be related to the oxidation of the products of incomplete imidazole decomposition. TEM and XRD studies of solid products of complex combustion have shown that they are oxides with particle size less than 40 nm. Thus, the combustion of [Cu(Im)4](NO3)2 complex under air can be considered as a new approach to prepare nanosized particles of copper oxides without the use of solvents.

Abstract:Abstract A green method for the synthesis of in situ Cu paste is developed. Cu particles are prepared through chemical reduction by selecting a special copper source, reducing agent, and solvent. Then the reaction solution is directly concentrated to obtain an in situ Cu paste. The synthesis of Cu particles and the preparation of Cu paste are conducted simultaneously, and the process of separation, purification, drying, storage, and re-dispersion of powder are reduced. Particles are not directly exposed to air, thus the oxidation of micro/submicron -Cu is effectively prevented, and the agglomeration of particles caused by drying and dispersion operations is simultaneously reduced. Furthermore, the proposed method has a certain universality, and different types of Cu sources can be used to prepare in situ paste with different sizes and morphologies. The entire preparation process is simple, efficient, green, and the yield can reach 99.99%, which breaks through the bottleneck of the application of traditional micro/submicron-Cu materials. Copper acetate-based in situ paste is sintered for 30 min at 260 °C and 2 MPa in a reducing atmosphere. The shear strength, resistivity, and thermal conductivity reach 55.26 MPa, 4.01 × 10 –8 Ω·m, and 92.75 W/(m·K), respectively, which could meet the interconnection application of power semiconductor devices.

Abstract:In this paper, highly dispersive nanosized copper particles with a mean particle size of less than 6 nm are prepared by an environmentally friendly chemical reduction method. Non-toxic L-ascorbic acid acts as both reducing agent and antioxidant in ethylene glycol in the absence of any other capping agent. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) is used to characterize the size and morphology of Cu nanoparticles. The results of UV-Vis spectroscopy (UV-Vis), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and high resolution TEM (HRTEM) illustrate that the resultant product is pure Cu nanocrystals. The size of Cu nanoparticles is remarkably impacted by the order of reagent addition, and the investigation reveals the reaction procedure of Cu2+ ions and L-ascorbic acid.

Abstract:Copper(II) oxide ultrafine particles are of great interest as a new material for multiple applications. This paper expounds the synthesis and characterization of copper(II) oxide submicrometer particles formed by a facile and simple supercritical hydrothermal synthesis method. The copper(II) nitrate, copper salt, was used as a precursor aqueous solution heated by a preheated sand bath to reach supercritical conditions. The effects of process operating parameters, such as temperature, pressure, the addition of sodium hydroxide, and precursor concentrations on the morphology and the size of copper(II) oxide submicrometer particles have been investigated. The copper(II) oxide particles formed, with particle sizes of ca. 100 nm, were hexagon-flake-like and spindle-like and free of impurities. The average particle size decreased with the increase of temperature under subcritical conditions and decrease of pressure. It decreased with the increase of precursor concentration at lower concentration conditions and revealed an adverse trend at higher concentrations. Sodium hydroxide accelerates the conversion of copper ions.

Abstract:A simple and novel preparation method for Cu nanoparticles has been suggested in this work. Its main innovative thought lies in preparing nano-copper in liquid paraffin without addition of other reductant. The paraffin is cheap and nontoxic, and the copper nanoparticles prepared by this method are not oxidized when exposed to air at room temperature. The obtained nano-copper has been characterized by X-ray diffraction measurements (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), and energy dispersive analysis of X-ray (EDX), X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The TEM results confirm that the optimal average size of nanoparticles is about 20 nm. The effects of time, temperature and surfactant on the size of nano-copper have been investigated. The results show that the optimized conditions are reaction temperature of 250 oC and reaction time of 3 h. By this method, the raw materials are cheap and the process is simple, so it can be applicable to large-scale production of copper nanoparticles.

Abstract:The Taguchi robust design method is implemented for the optimization of experimental conditions in the synthesis of high-purity ultrafine copper powder (HUCP) in mass-production by the chemical reduction method. A reducing agent, reaction temperature, reducing agent weight, and a stirring rate are chosen as the major optimization factors and the conversion rate, particle size, and reaction time are chosen as the desired targets. It is established that the reducing agent and the reaction temperature are the most significant factors that affect the desired targets. Among the selected or designed factors, the optimal conditions for producing the HUCP are: NaH2PO2 · H2O as the reducing agent (level 2), temperature 70°C (level 3), a reducing agent weight of 8.14 kg (level 3), and a stirring rate 300 rpm (level 2). The study results for the three desired targets are in agreement with the prediction made by the Taguchi method. Furthermore, the pure (impurity <0.06%) facecentered cubic structure of the HUCP with 1.51 μm average particle size is extensively characterized and determined by inductively coupled plasma–optical emission spectrometer (ICP–OES), laser particle-size analyzer (DLS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. This surfactant-free facility method is suitable for the synthesis of highpurity ultrafine copper powder by mass-production method.

Abstract:The copper nanoparticles were prepared by reduction of metal salt solutions with sodium borohydride in a T-shaped microfluidic device at room temperature. The influence of flow rates on copper particle diameter, morphology, size distribution, and elemental compositions has been investigated. Experimental results demonstrated that copper nanoparticles were uniform in size distribution, without being oxidized. With the increase in fluid flow rate the copper nanoparticles mean diameter increased, and the surface plasmon resonance absorptions of copper nanoparticles exhibited slight blue-shifting.

Abstract:Nano-/microcrystalline copper is widely used in catalysts, and it has potential for being used as conductive additive to ink for inkjet printed electronics. Copper is attractive, because it has excellent electrical conductivity and low cost compared to noble metals. The nucleation and phase transitions from the precursor to the final micrometer sized Cu in supercritical methanol have been studied for the first time using in-house in situ powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD). Temperatures have a significant impact on the reduction process of Cu2+; at a low synthesis temperature (250 degrees C), it was observed how the Cu2+ precursor initially formed copper hydroxy nitrate (Cu-2(OH)(3)NO3) and transformed to copper(II)oxide (CuO), i.e., no reduction took place. At 300 degrees C, multiple phase transformation could be observed from initial copper hydroxy nitrate to zerovalent copper; the in situ investigations reveal the following phase transitions; Cu-2(II)(OH)(3)NO3 -> (CuO)-O-II + (Cu2O)-O-I -> Cu-0. Increasing the synthesis temperature causes the pure Cu-0 to form much faster; at 350 degrees C, it takes 8.7 min to produce phase pure Cu-0, while at 450 degrees C, the formation takes similar to 0.7 min. Increasing the initial concentration of Cu2+ in the precursor causes formation of larger Cu-0 crystallites in the final product. Finally, the in situ observations were used as guidance for making Cu-0 using a supercritical flow setup.

Abstract:The invention discloses a preparation method of ultra-low-oxygen spherical micron copper powder. The preparation method comprises a specific preparation process as follows: (1) placing copper or a copper alloy raw material in a crucible, melting to be boiled by adopting vacuum induction melting, and adding moderate phosphorus into a melt to carry out deoxidization treatment; (2) pouring the melt obtained after deoxidization treatment into a preheated tundish crucible, and atomizing to produce powder by adopting a supersonic speed pulse inert gas atomizing method; opening an atomizing gas source, adjusting the pressure of the gas source, accelerating the airflow rate of an atomizer to more than 2 Mach by an atomizing nozzle, and forming pulse airflow with the frequency of 50-100 kHz so as to obtain the ultra-low-oxygen spherical micron copper powder; (3) after atomization is completed, collecting and grading the prepared copper powder in vacuum by utilizing a metal powder in-situ collection system. The copper powder prepared by the method of the invention has a high degree of sphericity, an ultra-low oxygen content (lower than 100 ppm), a controllable grain size between 20-100 mu m, narrow size distribution and good dispersibility, and using requirements of three-dimensional printing can be completely met.
