Abstract:This experimental work explores the synergistic advancement of hybrid nanofluids and heat pipes for electronic cooling applications. The hybrid nanofluids comprise multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) and aluminum oxide (Al 2 O 3 ) nanoparticles dispersed in base fluids. A two-step method produced stable nanofluids with enhanced thermal properties and reduced viscosity. Thermophysical characterization revealed that the hybrid nanofluid with 0.5 g L −1 MWCNT–Al 2 O 3 exhibited a 14.28% thermal conductivity increase over the base fluid at 45 °C. Dynamic viscosity remained near-constant with temperature changes, enabling stable fluid flow. Prototype heat pipes were fabricated and tested under varying nanofluid concentrations, heat loads, and inclinations. Thermal modeling guided the design, considering capillary, viscous, and sonic limits. Experiments determined optimal filling ratios of 100% for hybrid, Al 2 O 3 , and MWCNT nanofluids. The MWCNT heat pipe displayed the lowest thermal resistance and supported the highest heat inputs. This research demonstrates the strong potential of synergizing hybrid nanofluid heat pipes to develop efficient thermal management solutions for electronics cooling.
