Abstract:For a partially hyperbolic attractor with a center bundle splitting in a dominatedway into one-dimensional subbundles we show that for Lebesgue almost every point there is anempirical measure from $x$ with a SRB component. Moreover if the center exponents are nonzero, then $x$ lies in the basin of an ergodic hyperbolic SRB measure and there are only finitely many such measures. This gives another proof of the existence of SRB measures in this context, which was established firstly in [11] by using random perturbations. Moreover this generalizes results of [15,18] which deal with a single one-dimensional center subbundle.

Abstract:How often does it occur that the measure of maximal entropy of a system is an SRB measure? We study this question for $C^{1+\alpha}$ partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms isotopic to Anosov (DA-diffeomorphisms) on ${\mathbb T}^{3}$, and establish a rigidity result: the measure of maximal entropy is an SRB measure if and only if the sum of its positive Lyapunov exponents coincides with that of the linear Anosov map $A$ on all periodic orbits of the support of the measure. In that case, the measure is also the unique physical measure.\par We also show non-Anosov examples satisfying this condition, both in the conservative and in the non-conservative setting. \par Finally, we prove that a volume-preserving $C^{1+\alpha}$ DA-diffeomorphism on ${\mathbb T}^{3}$ is Anosov if all Lyapunov exponents coincide almost everywhere with those of the linear Anosov in the isotopy class. Consequently, a smooth DA-diffeomorphism is smoothly conjugated to its linear part if and only if all Lyapunov exponents coincide almost everywhere with those of its linear part.

Abstract:We prove the existence of SRB measures for diffeomorphisms where a positive volume set of initial conditions satisfy an "effective hyperbolicity" condition that guarantees certain recurrence conditions on the iterates of Lebesgue measure. We give examples of systems that do not admit a dominated splitting but can be shown to have SRB measures using our methods.

Abstract:In this paper, we give a necessary and sufficient condition that an (α,β)-space admits a measure μ with vanishing S-curvature everywhere. It is shown that the measure of such an (α,β)-space must coincide with the Riemannian volume measure of α up to a constant multiplication. Moreover, the characterization of (α,β)-spaces admitting a measure μ with weak isotropic S-curvature is given.

Abstract:It is well-known that the SRB measure of a $C^{1+\alpha}$ Anosov diffeomorphism has exponential decay of correlations with respect to H{ö}lder-continuous observables. We propose a new approach to this phenomenon, based on optimal transport. More precisely, we define a space of measures having absolutely continuous disintegrations with respect to some foliation close to the unstable foliation of the map, endowed with a variant of the Wasserstein metric where mass is only allowed to be transported along the diffeomorphism's stable foliation. We show that this metric is indeed finite on that space, and use that the construction makes the diffeomorphism act as a contraction to deduce two corollaries. First, the SRB measure has exponential decay of correlation with respect to pairs of observable that are only asked to be H{ö}lder-continuous \emph{in the stable, respectively unstable direction}, but can be discontinuous overall. Then, we prove quantitative statistical stability: the map sending a $C^{1+\alpha}$ Anosov diffeomorphism to its SRB measure is locally H{ö}lder-continuous (using the $C^1$ metric for diffeomorphisms and the usual Wasserstein metric for measures).

Abstract:This paper considers $C^2$ random dynamical systems in a Banach space, and proves that under some mild conditions, SRB measures are characterized by invariant measures satisfying Pesin's entropy formula, in which entropy is equal to the sum of positive Lyapunov exponents of the system. This can be regarded as a random version of the main result in Blumenthal and Young's paper \cite{Young17}.

Abstract:We prove that a partially hyperbolic attracting set for a $C^2$ vector field supports an ergodic physical/SRB measure if, and only if, the trapping region admits non-uniform sectional expansion on a positive Lebesgue measure subset. Moreover, in this case, the attracting set supports at most finitely many ergodic physical/SRB measures, which are also Gibbs states along the central-unstable direction. This extends to continuous time systems a similar well-known result obtained for diffeomorphisms, encompassing the presence of equilibria accumulated by regular orbits within the attracting set, since it is shown that slow recurrence to hyperbolic saddle-type equilibria is automatic for Lebesgue almost every point. We present several examples of application, including the existence of physical measures for asymptotically sectional hyperbolic attracting sets.

Abstract:Let $f$ and $g$ be two volume preserving, Anosov diffeomorphisms on $\mathbb{T}^2$, sharing common stable and unstable cones. In this paper, we find conditions for the existence of (dissipative) neighborhoods of $f$ and $g$, $\mathcal{U}_f$ and $\mathcal{U}_g$, with the following property: for any probability measure $\mu$, supported on the union of these neighborhoods, and verifying certain conditions, the unique $\mu$-stationary SRB measure is absolutely continuous with respect to the ambient Haar measure. Our proof is inspired in the work of Tsujii for partially hyperbolic endomorphisms [Tsu05]. We also obtain some equidistribution results using the main result of [BRH17].

Abstract:For r > 1, we show, using the Ledrappier-Young entropy characterization of SRB measures for non-invertible maps, that if a C^r map f of the interval or the circle has its Lyapunov exponent greater than 1/r log ||f ' || $\infty$ on a set E of positive Lebesgue measure, then it admits hyperbolic ergodic invariant measures that are absolutely continuous with respect to the Lebesgue measure. We also show that the basins of these measures cover E Lebesgue-almost everywhere.

Abstract:We study dynamical systems generated by skew products: T : [ 0 , 1 ) × R → [ 0 , 1 ) × R T ( x , y ) = ( b x mod 1 , γ y + ϕ ( x ) ) where integer b ≥ 2 , 0 < γ < 1 and ϕ is a real analytic Z -periodic function. We prove the following dichotomy for the SRB measure ω for T: Either the support of ω is a graph of real analytic function, or the dimension of ω is equal to min ⁡ { 2 , 1 + log ⁡ b log ⁡ 1 / γ } . Furthermore, given b and ϕ, the former alternative only happens for finitely many γ unless ϕ is constant.

Abstract:It is well-known that SRB and equilibrium measures for uniformly hyperbolic flows admit a product structure in terms of measures on stable and unstable leaves with scaling properties given by the potential function. We describe a construction of these leaf measures analogous to the definition of Hausdorff measure, relying on the Pesin-Pitskel' description of topological pressure as a dimensional characteristic using Bowen balls. These leaf measures were constructed for discrete-time systems by the author, Ya. Pesin, and A. Zelerowicz. In the continuous-time setting here, the description of the scaling properties is more complete, and we use a similar procedure with two-sided Bowen balls to directly produce the equilibrium measure itself.

Abstract:The Square Root Normal Field (SRNF) framework is a method in the area of shape analysis that defines a (pseudo) distance between unparametrized surfaces. For piecewise linear (PL) surfaces it was recently proved that the SRNF distance between unparametrized surfaces is equivalent to the Wasserstein Fisher Rao (WFR) metric on the space of finitely supported measures on $S^2$. In the present article we extend this point of view to a much larger set of surfaces; we show that the SRNF distance on the space of Lipschitz surfaces is equivalent to the WFR distance between Borel measures on $S^2$. For the space of spherical surfaces this result directly allows us to characterize the non-injectivity and the (closure of the) image of the SRNF transform. In the last part of the paper we further generalize this result by showing that the WFR metric for general measure spaces can be interpreted as an optimization problem over the diffeomorphism group of an independent background space.

Abstract:We show that a class of higher-dimensional hyperbolic endomorphisms admit absolutely continuous invariant probabilities whose densities are regular and vary differentiably with respect to the dynamical system. The maps we consider are skew-products given by , where E is an expanding map of and C is a contracting map on each fiber. If for some , it is also valid that the density is differentiable with respect to T. Similar results are proved for thermodynamical quantities for potentials close to the geometric potential.

Abstract:We present three sets of results for the stationary distribution of a two-dimensional semimartingale reflecting Brownian motion (SRBM) that lives in the nonnegative quadrant. The SRBM data can equivalently be specified by three geometric objects, an ellipse and two lines, in the two-dimensional Euclidean space. First, we revisit the variational problem (VP) associated with the SRBM. Building on Avram, Dai and Hasenbein (2001), we show that the value of the VP at a point in the quadrant is equal to the optimal value of a linear function over a convex domain. Depending on the location of the point, the convex domain is either D(1) or D(2) or D(1) cap D(2), where each D(i), i = 1, 2, can easily be described by the three geometric objects. Our results provide a geometric interpretation for the value function of the VP and allow one to see geometrically when one edge of the quadrant has influence on the optimal path traveling from the origin to a destination point. Second, we provide a geometric condition that characterizes the existence of a product form stationary distribution. Third, we establish exact tail asymptotics of two boundary measures that are associated with the stationary distribution; a key step in our proof is to sharpen two asymptotic inversion lemmas in Dai and Miyazawa (2011) that allow one to infer the exact tail asymptotic of a boundary measure from the singularity of its moment generating function.
