Abstract:Let $M$ be a $d$-dimensional closed Riemannian manifold, let $f\in\mathrm{Diff}^{1+\beta}(M)$, and denote by $m$ the Riemannian volume form of $M$. We prove that if $m\circ f^{-n}\xrightarrow[n\to\infty]{}\mu$ exponentially fast, then $\mu$ is an SRB measure.

Abstract:In this paper, we give a necessary and sufficient condition that an (α,β)-space admits a measure μ with vanishing S-curvature everywhere. It is shown that the measure of such an (α,β)-space must coincide with the Riemannian volume measure of α up to a constant multiplication. Moreover, the characterization of (α,β)-spaces admitting a measure μ with weak isotropic S-curvature is given.

Abstract:How often does it occur that the measure of maximal entropy of a system is an SRB measure? We study this question for $C^{1+\alpha}$ partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms isotopic to Anosov (DA-diffeomorphisms) on ${\mathbb T}^{3}$, and establish a rigidity result: the measure of maximal entropy is an SRB measure if and only if the sum of its positive Lyapunov exponents coincides with that of the linear Anosov map $A$ on all periodic orbits of the support of the measure. In that case, the measure is also the unique physical measure.\par We also show non-Anosov examples satisfying this condition, both in the conservative and in the non-conservative setting. \par Finally, we prove that a volume-preserving $C^{1+\alpha}$ DA-diffeomorphism on ${\mathbb T}^{3}$ is Anosov if all Lyapunov exponents coincide almost everywhere with those of the linear Anosov in the isotopy class. Consequently, a smooth DA-diffeomorphism is smoothly conjugated to its linear part if and only if all Lyapunov exponents coincide almost everywhere with those of its linear part.

A Mañé-Manning formula for expanding measures for endomorphisms of $\mathbb P^k$

Abstract:Let $k \ge 1$ be an integer and $f$ a holomorphic endomorphism of $\mathbb P^k (\mathbb C)$ of algebraic degree $d\geq 2$. We introduce a volume dimension for ergodic $f$-invariant probability measures with strictly positive Lyapunov exponents. In particular, this class of measures includes all ergodic measures whose measure-theoretic entropy is strictly larger than $(k-1)\log d$, a natural generalization of the class of measures of positive measure-theoretic entropy in dimension 1. The volume dimension is equivalent to the Hausdorff dimension when $k=1$, but depends on the dynamics of $f$ to incorporate the possible failure of Koebe's theorem and the non-conformality of holomorphic endomorphisms for $k\geq 2$. If $\nu$ is an ergodic $f$-invariant probability measure with strictly positive Lyapunov exponents, we prove a generalization of the Mañé-Manning formula relating the volume dimension, the measure-theoretic entropy, and the sum of the Lyapunov exponents of $\nu$. As a consequence, we give a characterization of the first zero of a natural pressure function for such expanding measures in terms of their volume dimensions. For hyperbolic maps, such zero also coincides with the volume dimension of the Julia set, and with the exponent of a natural (volume-)conformal measure. This generalizes results by Denker-Urbański and McMullen in dimension 1 to any dimension $k\geq 1$. Our methods mainly rely on a theorem by Berteloot-Dupont-Molino, which gives a precise control on the distortion of inverse branches of endomorphisms along generic inverse orbits with respect to measures with strictly positive Lyapunov exponents.

Abstract:We prove the existence of SRB measures for diffeomorphisms where a positive volume set of initial conditions satisfy an "effective hyperbolicity" condition that guarantees certain recurrence conditions on the iterates of Lebesgue measure. We give examples of systems that do not admit a dominated splitting but can be shown to have SRB measures using our methods.

Abstract:It is well-known that the SRB measure of a $C^{1+\alpha}$ Anosov diffeomorphism has exponential decay of correlations with respect to H{ö}lder-continuous observables. We propose a new approach to this phenomenon, based on optimal transport. More precisely, we define a space of measures having absolutely continuous disintegrations with respect to some foliation close to the unstable foliation of the map, endowed with a variant of the Wasserstein metric where mass is only allowed to be transported along the diffeomorphism's stable foliation. We show that this metric is indeed finite on that space, and use that the construction makes the diffeomorphism act as a contraction to deduce two corollaries. First, the SRB measure has exponential decay of correlation with respect to pairs of observable that are only asked to be H{ö}lder-continuous \emph{in the stable, respectively unstable direction}, but can be discontinuous overall. Then, we prove quantitative statistical stability: the map sending a $C^{1+\alpha}$ Anosov diffeomorphism to its SRB measure is locally H{ö}lder-continuous (using the $C^1$ metric for diffeomorphisms and the usual Wasserstein metric for measures).

Abstract:Let $f$ and $g$ be two volume preserving, Anosov diffeomorphisms on $\mathbb{T}^2$, sharing common stable and unstable cones. In this paper, we find conditions for the existence of (dissipative) neighborhoods of $f$ and $g$, $\mathcal{U}_f$ and $\mathcal{U}_g$, with the following property: for any probability measure $\mu$, supported on the union of these neighborhoods, and verifying certain conditions, the unique $\mu$-stationary SRB measure is absolutely continuous with respect to the ambient Haar measure. Our proof is inspired in the work of Tsujii for partially hyperbolic endomorphisms [Tsu05]. We also obtain some equidistribution results using the main result of [BRH17].

Abstract:For any integers $n\geq 2$ and $1\leq r\leq n-1$ satisfying $3r\geq 2n-1$, we show that the expected volume fraction of a random degree $d$ complex submanifold of $\C\mathbb{P}^n$ of codimension $r$ where the bisectional holomorphic curvature (for the induced ambient metric) is negative tends to one when $d$ goes to infinity. Here, the probability measure is the natural one associated with the Fubini--Study metric. We provide similar estimates for the holomorphic sectional curvature, the Ricci curvature, and the scalar curvature. Our results hold more generally for random submanifolds within any complex projective manifold.

Abstract:In this paper, we study 3-dimensional complete non-compact Riemannian manifolds with asymptotically nonnegative Ricci curvature and a uniformly positive scalar curvature lower bound. Our main result is that, if this manifold has $k$ ends and finite first Betti number, then it has at most linear volume growth, and furthermore, if the negative part of Ricci curvature decays sufficiently fast at infinity, then we have an optimal asymptotic volume ratio $\limsup_{r\rightarrow\infty}\frac{\mathrm{Vol}(B(p, r))}{r}\leq4k\pi$. In particular, our results apply to 3-dimensional complete non-compact Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature and a uniformly positive scalar curvature lower bound.

Physical measures for mostly sectional expanding flows

Abstract:We prove that a partially hyperbolic attracting set for a $C^2$ vector field supports an ergodic physical/SRB measure if, and only if, the trapping region admits non-uniform sectional expansion on a positive Lebesgue measure subset. Moreover, in this case, the attracting set supports at most finitely many ergodic physical/SRB measures, which are also Gibbs states along the central-unstable direction. This extends to continuous time systems a similar well-known result obtained for diffeomorphisms, encompassing the presence of equilibria accumulated by regular orbits within the attracting set, since it is shown that slow recurrence to hyperbolic saddle-type equilibria is automatic for Lebesgue almost every point. We present several examples of application, including the existence of physical measures for asymptotically sectional hyperbolic attracting sets.

Rigidity for the logarithmic Sobolev inequality on complete metric measure spaces

Abstract:In this work, we study the rigidity problem for the logarithmic Sobolev inequality on a complete metric measure space $(M^n,g,f)$ with Bakry-Émery Ricci curvature satisfying $Ric_f\geq \frac{a}{2}g$, for some $a>0$. We prove that if equality holds then $M$ is isometric to $\Sigma\times \mathbb{R}$ for some complete $(n-1)$-dimensional Riemannian manifold $\Sigma$ and by passing an isometry, $(M^n,g,f)$ must split off the Gaussian shrinking soliton $(\mathbb{R}, dt^2, \frac{a}{2}|.|^2)$. This was proved in 2019 by Ohta and Takatsu. In this paper, we prove this rigidity result using a different method.

Abstract:For an immortal Ricci flow on an $m$-dimensional $(m\ge 3)$ closed manifold, we show the following convergence results: (1) if the curvature and diameter are uniformly bounded, then any unbounded sequence of time slices sub-converges to a Riemannian orbifold; (2) if the flow is type-III with diameter growth controlled by $t^{\frac{1}{2}}$, then any blowdown limit is an $m$-dimensional negative Einstein manifold, provided that Feldman-Ilmanen-Ni's $\boldsymbol{\mu}_+$-functional satisfies $\lim_{t\to \infty} t\boldsymbol{\mu}_+'(t)=0$.

Volume Above Distance Below with Boundary II

Abstract:It was shown by B. Allen, R. Perales, and C. Sormani that on a closed manifold where the diameter of a sequence of Riemannian metrics is bounded, if the volume converges to the volume of a limit manifold, and the sequence of Riemannian metrics are $C^0$ converging from below then one can conclude volume preserving Sormani-Wenger Intrinsic Flat convergence. The result was extended to manifolds with boundary by B. Allen and R. Perales by a doubling with necks procedure which produced a closed manifold and reduced the case with boundary to the case without boundary. The consequence of the doubling with necks procedure was requiring a stronger condition than necessary on the boundary. Using the estimates for the Sormani-Wenger Intrinsic Flat distance on manifolds with boundary developed by B. Allen and R. Perales, we show that only a bound on the area of the boundary is needed in order to conclude volume preserving intrinsic flat convergence for manifolds with boundary. We also provide an example which shows that one should not expect convergence without a bound on area.

Abstract:Consider a C^∞ closed connected Riemannian manifold (M, g) with negative curvature. The unit tangent bundle SM is foliated by the (weak) stable foliation 𝒲^s of the geodesic flow. Let Δ^s be the leafwise Laplacian for 𝒲^s and let X be the geodesic spray, i.e., the vector field that generates the geodesic flow. For each λ, the operator ℒ_λ:=Δ^s+λX generates a diffusion for 𝒲^s. We show that, as λ→ -∞, the unique stationary probability measure for the leafwise diffusion of ℒ_λ converges to the normalized Lebesgue measure on SM.

Abstract:Let be a diffeomorphism on an -dimensional compact smooth Riemannian manifold M and a hyperbolic ergodic f-invariant probability measure. This paper obtains an upper bound for the stable (unstable) pointwise dimension of , which is given by the unique solution of an equation involving the sub-additive measure-theoretic pressure. If is a Sinai–Ruelle–Bowen (SRB) measure, then the Kaplan–Yorke conjecture is true under some additional conditions and the Lyapunov dimension of can be approximated gradually by the Hausdorff dimension of a sequence of hyperbolic sets . The limit behaviour of the Carathéodory singular dimension of on the unstable manifold with respect to the super-additive singular valued potential is also studied.

Abstract:We consider a closed manifold M with a Riemannian metric g(t) evolving in direction -2S(t) where S(t) is a symmetric two-tensor on (M,g(t)). We prove that if S satisfies a certain tensor inequality, then one can construct a forwards and a backwards reduced volume quantity, the former being non-increasing, the latter being non-decreasing along the flow. In the case where S=Ric is the Ricci curvature of M, the result corresponds to Perelman's well-known reduced volume monotonicity for the Ricci flow. Some other examples are given in the second section of this article, the main examples and motivation for this work being List's extended Ricci flow system, the Ricci flow coupled with harmonic map heat flow and the mean curvature flow in Lorentzian manifolds with nonnegative sectional curvatures. With our approach, we find new monotonicity formulas for these flows.

Abstract:In this note, we will prove that given a sequence of Ricci flows. (M-k, g(k)(t)) of dimension n, t is an element of [-1, 0], with Ricci curvature bounded below uniformly and volume non-collapsing, (M-k, g(k) (0)) converge as a sequence of manifolds to a limit length space(X, d). The regular part of (X, d)must be open and the convergence is of C-1,C-alpha regularity. As a corollary of this result, we prove that in dimension 3, a Ricci flow can always extend unless either its Ricci curvature goes to -infinity or it shrinks to a point.
