Abstract:Breaking the traditional Abbe diffraction limit to realize super-resolution is attractive for many applications. In past decades, based on the concept of optical superoscillation, different types of superoscillation lenses have been demonstrated with focal spot size smaller than the Abbe diffraction limit, showing promising potentials for realizing super-resolution optical imaging and microscopy. Although inverse design methods without optimization procedure have been proposed, the resulting transmission functions usually consist of both amplitude and phase, making it hard to realize due to the difficulties in simultaneously achieving complicate continuous amplitude and continuous phase manipulations. To overcome this problem, here, an inverse method for realizing superoscillation focusing lens has been proposed based on the technique of complex amplitude encoding, which is used to transform a complex transmission function into a pure-phase transmission function for a given superoscillation focusing fields. We can realize a superoscillation metalens by using geometrical-phase metasurfaces, which is much easier for nanofabrication compared with complicate metasurface used to simultaneously achieve both amplitude and phase modulation. Our method greatly simplifies the design and realization of a large-scale superoscillation metalens, and has achieved outstanding results in improving the focusing efficiency of metalens. We believe that our method can find its applications in optical super-resolution imaging and optical nano-manipulations.
