Abstract:Luminescence thermometry has been widely concerned by researchers due to its quick response, high spatial resolution, and remote measurement. However, low sensitivity is still an existing problem and affects its development. Herein, the luminescence thermometer with high sensitivity taking advantage of the distinguished thermal response between Eu3+ and Mn4+ is designed. Excitedly, Eu3+ exhibits an anti-thermal quenching behavior under 310 nm excitation and a slight thermal quenching behavior under 393 nm excitation due to the energy transfer of host→Eu3+, while Mn4+ presents a strong thermal quenching behavior. Moreover, the energy transfer of Eu3+→Mn4+ (λex = 310 nm and λex = 393 nm) can also be observed for the Ca2Sb2O7: Eu3+, Mn4+ phosphors during the heating process. On the basis of the diverse thermal quenching behavior of Eu3+ and Mn4+, the thermometric performances are investigated by utilizing the fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) of Eu3+(5D0→7F2)/Mn4+(2Eg→4A2g) under a dual-wavelength excitation. The maximum relative sensitivities of the designed phosphors are determined to be 4.072% K−1 at 305 K under 310 nm and 3.072% K−1 at 351 K under 393 nm excitation. It's worth noting that the thermometric characteristic can be modified by various excitation wavelengths. Hence, the developed Ca2Sb2O7: Eu3+, Mn4+ phosphors have great potential in the field of luminescence thermometry and provide an effective strategy for designing high-sensitivity dual-wavelength excitation optical thermometers.

Abstract:A novel apatite-based UV-excited dual-emitting Ca2Na2La6(SiO4)(4)(PO4)(2)O: Eu2+/Eu3+ phosphor (CNL: Eu2+/Eu3+) was designed and successfully synthesized by a solid-state reaction. Compared with previous reports on this family of materials, a structural study based on DFT calculation exhibited a new consequence that the monovalent ions in this system are more inclined to occupy the seven-coordinate cationic sites rather than the nine-coordinate sites. This result was confirmed by the structural refinement and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) data. Due to the coexistence of Eu2+ and Eu3+ dopants in the material, under 345 or 392nm excitation, CNL: 0.02Eu(2+)/Eu3+ exhibited a green Eu2+ emission band (528nm) and red Eu3+ emission peaks (around 618nm). The application potential of CNL:0.02Eu(2+)/Eu3+ in luminescent thermometry was studied by exploiting the temperature sensitivity of the fluorescent intensity ratio (green/red) at different temperatures. It was found that, under 345nm excitation, the fluorescent intensity ratio of CNL: 0.02Eu(2+)/Eu3+ displayed linear correlation over the temperature range of 298 to 473K with a high sensitivity of 2.82%K-1. Additionally, the emission color of the CNL: 0.02Eu(2+)/Eu3+ sample under UV lamp (254 and 365nm) excitation showed an obvious change (from green to red) as the temperature increased from 298 to 473K (from green to red). These results indicated that CNL: Eu2+/Eu3+ can serve as an excellent visual luminescent ratiometric thermometer. Furthermore, this work provides a novel reference for developing high-performance luminescence temperature-sensing materials.

Abstract:An innovative Mn2+/Tb3+‐codoped Ca2LaTaO6 phosphor with dual‐emission centers is synthesized. By virtue of the deep electron trap states induced by Mn2+ dopant, the electrons in the deep trap can be thermally activated at high temperatures, which can replenish the attenuated Tb3+ emission, thus bringing out the antithermal quenching phenomenon and excellent temperature‐sensing ability. Luminescence thermometry plays significant roles in various fields including industrial production, environmental detection, aerospace, and medicine. However, its accuracy improvement remains highly challenging due to the thermal quenching effect of phosphors. Herein, for the first time, a thermal‐activated electron compensation Mn2+‐ and Tb3+‐codoped Ca2LaTaO6 phosphor is developed for multiparametric temperature sensing with tunable emission of Mn2+ and antithermal quenching emission of Tb3+, leading to excellent accuracy at high temperatures. By virtue of the deep electron trap states induced by Mn2+ dopant, the electrons in the deep trap can be thermally activated at high temperatures, which can replenish the attenuated Tb3+ emission caused by thermal quenching, thus bringing out the antithermal quenching phenomenon. On account of the prominent emission properties, the luminescence intensity ratio (LIR) readout and lifetime‐based thermometry are designed, providing a maximum relative sensitivity SR of 3.603% and 1.941% K−1, respectively. Multiparametric temperature sensing and novel data analysis are also employed to further improve the accuracy of the luminescence thermometer. The outstanding relative thermal sensitivity ranging from 8.72% to 16.11% K−1 and temperature uncertainty order of 10−3 are achieved. These results demonstrate that the designed Ca2LaTaO6:Mn2+/Tb3+ phosphor material is a promising thermal‐sensing candidate.

Abstract:Color tunable phosphors of Mn4+ and Tb3+ co-doped double-perovskite SrGdLiTeO6 (SGLT) were synthesized in this work. The crystal parameters and photoluminescence performances were investigated in detail. By taking advantage of the diverse thermal quenching between Mn4+ and Tb3+ ions, the emission color (SGLT:0.7% Mn4+/5% Tb3+) was changed from red to green region, which could be used for high-temperature temperature warning indication. Moreover, according to the luminescence intensity ratio (LIR) technique, a wide temperature-rang optical thermometry was developed and further, the maximum relative sensitivity (SR1) value of the SGLT:0.7%Mn4+/5%Tb3+ phosphor was determined to be 1.49% K−1 at 560 K. On the other hand, the sensing properties were also analyzed based on the temperature-dependent lifetime method. The most interesting thing is that the maximum SR2 value reached 1.88% K−1 at 573 K. This work proved that the Mn4+ and Tb3+ co-doped double-perovskite SrGdLiTeO6 could be potentially used in temperature warning indication and high-sensitivity luminescence thermometry.

Abstract:Mn4+ and Sm3+ singly doped and Mn4+/Sm3+ codoped CaGdMgSbO6 (abbreviated as CGMS) phosphors with double pemvskite structure have been successfully prepared by the solid-state reaction. X-ray powder diffraction and luminescence spectra were used to analysis their crystal phases and optical properties. Especially, temperature-dependent luminescence spectra and luminescence decay curves of the CGMS:Mn4+/Sm3+ phosphor were measured at a large temperature range of 298-573 K Mn4+ and Sm3+ possess different trends of luminescence change where the luminescence intensity of Mn4+ ions decreases much more rapidly compared to that of Sm3+ ions as the temperature increases. Accordingly, based on the fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) between the two activator Mn4+ and Sm3+ as well as the luminescence lifetime of Mn4+, the optimal relative sensitivity of temperature sensing in the CGMS:Mn4+/Sm3+ sample could reach 1.54% K-1 at 473 K and 1.23% K-1 at 523 K, respectively. All these indicate that this CGMS:Mn4+/Sm3+ material is a promising candidate for dual-mode high-sensitivity optical temperature sensing.
Photoluminescence and temperature dependent properties of Bi3+, Sm3+ co-doped Ca2YSbO6 phosphor for dual-emitting optical thermometer

Abstract:Bi3+, Sm3+ co-doped Ca2YSbO6 phosphors with dual-emitting centers were created using a high-temperature synthetic process. Investigations were conducted into the phase structure, luminous characteristics, and optical temperature dependent properties. Under the condition of 320 nm Ultraviolet light excitation, the Ca2YSbO6: Bi3+ phosphor exhibits the 3P1→1S0 emission of Bi3+, which peaked at 402 nm, and the Ca2YSbO6: Sm3+ phosphor exhibits the 4G5/2→6Hn/2 (n = 5, 7, 9 and 11) red emission of Sm3+, which is visible between 550 and 720 nm. Spectrum overlap between the PL spectrum of Bi3+ and the PLE spectrum of Sm3+ served as evidence for the energy transfer (ET) behavior. Furthermore, the conclusion could be supported by the life decay of Bi3+.In the case of optimal UV excitation of 320 nm, the maximum absolute sensitivity (Sa) and relative sensitivity (Sr) values for Ca2YSbO6: Bi3+, Sm3+ were 2.21 × 10−3 K−1 and 0.973% K−1, respectively, at 503 K. The outcomes demonstrated that the Ca2YSbO6: Bi3+, Sm3+ phosphor could perform well as an optical thermometer.

Abstract:Ratiometric fluorescent sensing materials based on dual-emissive luminescent centers have been widely researched due to their highly stable self-calibrating monitoring performance. In this work, Eu3+, Tb3+ co-doped gadolinium molybdate [Gd2(MoO4)3] phosphors were successfully prepared through a facile precipitation and a following heat treatment process. Dual-emissive Gd2(MoO4)3: Eu3+, Tb3+ phosphor showed characteristic emission peaks at 592, 617, and 703 nm corresponding to the transitions of 5D0–7F1, 5D0–7F2 and 5D0–7F4 for Eu3+ ions, and the other emissions at 488 and 543 nm were ascribed to 5D4–7F6 and 5D4–7F5 transitions for Tb3+, respectively. The temperature sensitivities of Gd2(MoO4)3: Eu3+, Tb3+ based on a multimode fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) technique were investigated for monitoring temperature changes in the range of 80–450 K. The maximum relative sensitivities of the four modes of FIR (ITb 3+/IEu 3+) techniques were successfully achieved with range of 0.37–0.50% K−1. The results also demonstrated the high reversibility of Gd2(MoO4)3: Eu3+, Tb3+ phosphor used as a self-calibrating thermometer for thermal-sensing application.

Abstract:A series of Tb3+/Mn4+ codoped double perovskite oxides Sr2LuTaO6(SLT) phosphors are synthesized with solid-state method. The results of structure characterization prove that the Tb3+ and Mn4+ ions are successfully doped into the SLT host. The photoluminescence excitation(PLE) and photoluminescence(PL) spectra of SLT:Tb3+, SLT:Mn4+ and SLT:Tb3+/Mn4+ are illustrated in detail. Under ultraviolet(UV) excitation, the bright green and red lights are obtained from SLT:Tb3+/Mn4+ phosphor. Especially, the emission intensity of Tb3+ ions in SLT:Tb3+/Mn4+ is enhanced by the energy transfer(ET) process from Mn4+ to Tb3+. The thermal enhancement of Tb3+ ion radiation in SLT:Tb3+/Mn4+ also proves the ET process(Mn4+→Tb3+). In addition, the thermal enhancement of Tb3+ ion radiation and the thermal quenching of Mn4+ ion radiation in SLT:Tb3+/Mn4+ system can be applied to develop optical thermometry based on the luminescence intensity ratio(LIR) technology. Therefore, the LIRs of Mn4+ (2Eg→4A2g) and Tb3+(5D4→7F5,4) are investigated at the temperature range from 313 to 573 K. The absolute sensitivity (Sa) and relative sensitivity (Sr) of SLT:Tb3+/Mn4+ phosphor are calculated. The maximum values of Sa and Sr are obtained from the LIR of Tb3+:5D4→7F4 (570-599 nm) and Mn4+:2Eg→4A2g(625-705 nm). The maximum of Sa is 10.18% K−1 at 543 K, and that of Sr reaches 1.98% K−1 at 543 K. The result confirms that the ET process from Mn4+ to Tb3+ contribute to increase the temperature measuring sensitivity of SLT:Tb3+/Mn4+ phosphor. Therefore, the SLT: Mn4+/Tb3+ phosphor has prospective potential in optical thermometry and provide advantageous guidance for designing high-sensitivity optical thermometers.

Eu3+ Single-Doped Phosphor with Antithermal Quenching Behavior and Multicolor-Tunable Properties for Luminescence Thermometry

Abstract:To date, non-contact luminescence thermometry methods based on fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) technology have been studied extensively. However, designing phosphors with high relative sensitivity (Sr) has become a research hotspot. In this work, Eu3+ single-doped Ca2Sb2O7:Eu3+ phosphors with a high Sr value for dual-emitting-center luminescence thermometry are developed and proposed. The anti-thermal quenching behavior of Eu3+ originating from the energy transfer (ET) of host → Eu3+ is found and proved in the designed phosphors. Interestingly, adjustable color emission from blue to orange can be achieved. Surprisingly, the degree of the anti-thermal quenching behavior of Eu3+ gradually reduces from 240 to 127% as the Eu3+ doping content increases from 0.005 to 0.05 mol, attributed to most Eu3+ being located in the low symmetrical [Ca1O8] dodecahedral site. According to the differentiable responses of the host and Eu3+ to temperature, the maximal Sr value reaches 3.369% K-1 (383 K). Moreover, the ambient temperature can be intuitively predicted by observing the emitting color. Owing to the excellent performance in optical thermometry, color-tunable properties, and outstanding acid and alkali resistance for polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) films, the developed Eu3+ single-doped Ca2Sb2O7:Eu3+ phosphors are expected to be prospective candidates in luminescence thermometers and LED devices in various conditions.

Abstract:Luminescent thermometry is a noninvasive method of temperature detection with a high sensitivity and response speed. The present study demonstrated the process-intensified synthesis of ytterbium and erbium co-doped calcium molybdate phosphors (CaMoO4:Yb3+/Er3+). The experiment involved the initial premixing of the precursors using a high-gravity rotating packed bed (RPB) reactor and subsequent calcination processing. The pronounced mass transfer and micromixing of the reactants in the RPB facilitated the scalable and controllable synthesis of CaMoO4:Yb3+/Er3+ particles with submicron sizes and regular morphologies. The CaMoO4:Yb3+/Er3+ particles exhibited a bright-green emission with temperature-dependent luminescence characteristics under 980 nm laser irradiation. Furthermore, the maximum absolute sensitivity was determined to be 0.02837 K−1. These results indicated that the synthesized product was a suitable candidate for application in upconversion luminescent thermometers capable of temperature sensing at the microscale.This article is protected by copyright. Abstract:Optical temperature sensors based on photoluminescence materials have received considerable attention because of their noncontact measurement. However, such sensors still suffer from low sensitivity. Herein, A rationmetric optical temperature sensor with high sensitivity based on the spectra of Ca2LaSbO6: Mn4+, Eu3+ (CLS: Mn4+, Eu3+) phosphors was constructed. The temperature-dependent spectra were studied ranging from 273 to 473 K. Results showed that the fluorescence intensity of Mn4+ ions attenuated faster than that of Eu3+ ions with the increase of temperature because of their different thermal responses. Moreover, the sensing properties of CLS: Mn4+, Eu3+ showed absolute sensitivity and relative sensitivity of 0.098 K−1 and 2.60% K−1, respectively, based on the fluorescence intensity ratio of Mn4+ and Eu3+. Therefore, CLS: Mn4+, Eu3+ phosphor can be used for optical thermometry with high performance.

Abstract:Herein, Ba2GdNbO6:Eu3+,Mn4+ phosphors with dual emission centers were manufactured as three-mode fluorescence thermometers. Their structure, micromorphology and luminescent properties were explained in-depth. Excited at 394 nm, the characteristic emission peaks of transitions of 5D0→7F of Eu3+ and 2Eg→4A2g of Mn4+ in Ba2GdNbO6:Eu3+,Mn4+ can be simultaneously detected. In addition, three-mode fluorescence thermometers with high sensitivity were developed, utilizing temperatures dependence of emission intensity (EI) of Mn4+, fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) of Eu3+ and Mn4+, as well as fluorescence lifetime (FL) of 2Eg level of Mn4+. In EI, FIR and FL modes, the maximal relative sensitivities achieve 1.78 %K−1@423 K, 2.72 %K−1@483 K and 1.73 %K−1@430 K, respectively. The results indicate that Ba2GdNbO6:Eu3+,Mn4+ can be used as a candidate material for three-mode fluorescence thermometers.

Abstract:Designing of phosphors with multi-emission peaks that show incongruent response to temperature is crucial to design high-efficiency optic fluorescence temperature sensors. Herein, Mn4+ and Dy3+ were co-doped into host lattice Ca2InSbO6 (CIS) with bimodal emissions for fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) thermometry. The Dy3+-luminescence is insensitive to temperature for its 4f→4f transitions whereas the Mn4+-luminescence is sensitive for its outer 3d→3d transitions. This feature causes almost unchanged intensity of Dy3+-luminescence with increasing temperature and fast decay of Mn4+-luminescence. Utilized the inconsistent temperature dependency of phosphor CIS:Mn4+/Dy3+, highly absolute sensitivity (S a) of 9.10% K−1 at 573 K and relative sensitivity (S r) of 2.16% K−1 at 498 K are realized. Additionally, the fluorescence lifetime of Mn4+ is also sensitive to the temperature with S a of 0.17% K−1 at 348 K and S r of 1.890 %K−1 at 423 K. This work gives a design idea for researchers in optic temperature sensor field that a phosphor with double activated ions of Dy3+ and Mn4+ is a good choice.

Abstract:Single-phase Ce3+, Eu2+ co-doped LiSr4(BO3)3 phosphors are successfully prepared via solid reaction process. The crystal structure, luminescence characteristics and thermal quenching performance of LiSr4(BO3)3:Ce3+, Eu2+ samples are systematically studied. The presence of two crystallographic positions of Sr2+ ions in LiSr4(BO3)3 host makes the emission bands of Ce3+ ion and Eu2+ ion exhibit asymmetry. Based on the configuration coordinate model, the thermal quenching of luminescence from Ce3+ ion and Eu2+ ion is investigated in detail. The temperature-sensitive performance is further studied by analyzing the temperature-dependent luminescence spectra of LiSr4(BO3)3:0.06Ce3+, 0.04Eu2+ phosphor. The maximum absolute and relative sensitivities are 0.057 K-1 and 4.017% K−1, respectively, which are better than many previously reported inorganic optical thermometry materials. Besides, the emissions of Ce3+ ion and Eu2+ ion are clearly separated, providing good signal discrimination ability. The results demonstrate that LiSr4(BO3)3:Ce3+, Eu2+ phosphors have outstanding temperature-sensitive properties and can be the excellent optical thermometric materials.

Abstract:To develop new luminescent materials for optical thermometers, a series of Er 3+ /Eu 3+ doped double perovskite La 2 MgSnO 6 phosphors are synthesized by a high-temperature solid-phase method. The structure, luminescence performance, energy transfer, and thermal sensitivity are systematically studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy fluorescence spectroscopy, lifetime decay curve, and temperature-dependent emission spectra. The prepared samples possess good coincidence with pure perovskite phase, and the refined high-quality XRD data reveal that Eu 3+ and Er 3+ jointly occupy La 3+ sites. which is attributed to the effective energy transfer from Er 3+ to Eu 3+ ions. By adjusting the doping concentration of Eu 3+ , the emission of Er 3+ is attenuated and the luminous color is modulated from green to orange-red. These demonstrate the existence of energy transfer between Er 3+ and Eu 3+ . In addition, the optimized La 2 MgSnO 6 : 0.075Er 3+ , 0.04Eu 3+ phosphor exhibits excellent thermal stability and good temperature cycling. The emission intensity showed good cycling in the process of repeated heating and cooling, and maintained to 76% of the initial temperature (303K) at 403K. Studied the optical temperature sensing performance of LMS: 0.075Er 3+ , 0.04Eu 3+ fluorescent powder. The results of fitting the fluorescence intensity ratio with the non-thermal coupling characteristic peaks of 555 and 706nm showed excellent optical sensitivity, and the S a and S r were calculated as 0.0029K −1 and 1.21%K −1 , respectively. All results indicate that LMS: 0.075Er 3+ , 0.04Eu 3+ phosphors could have potential applications for non-contact optical temperature measurement materials.

Abstract:Mixture of Mn4+-doped phosphor (Li2TiO3:Mn4+) and Dy3+-doped phosphor (Y2O3: Dy3+) were prepared and investigated for the application of optical thermometry. X-ray powder diffraction and luminescence spectroscopy measurements were performed on all samples to analysis their optical properties. In particular, temperature-dependent luminescence and fluorescence lifetime of the mixture sample were measured in the temperature range of 273-373 K. Further analysis showed that the mixture sample used for temperature sensing has an excellent relative sensitivity with maximum value of 4.34% K-1 at 288 K based on fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) and 6.67% K-1 at 339 K based on fluorescence lifetime, respectively. All these investigations suggest that the mixture phosphor is very promising in dual-mode high-sensitivity optical thermometry. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:The rational design and development of effective optical thermometers based on luminescent materials have received considerable attention over decades due to their unique advantages of fast response, contactless operation and simplicity, to name a few. However, exploring optical thermometers with ultra-high sensitivity is still a challenge. In this work, by taking advantage of the anti-thermal quenching luminescence of Eu 3+ ions induced by the thermal redshift of charge transfer bands and the thermal quenching luminescence of Eu 2+ and Tb 3+ ions, we demonstrate the thermometric potential of CaYGaO 4 (CYGO):Eu 2+ /Eu 3+ and CYGO:Eu 3+ /Tb 3+ phosphors. Benefiting from the opposite thermal quenching luminescence of Eu 3+ and Eu 2+ /Tb 3+ , the maximum relative sensitivity can reach 3.68% K −1 (CYGO:Eu 2+ /Eu 3+ ) and 5.51% K −1 (CYGO:Eu 3+ /Tb 3+ ), respectively. Under the irradiation of a single beam of light, the luminous color of the obtained samples undergoes a significant change visible to the naked eye as the temperature increases, which further enhances the temperature sensitivity. In addition to the application of thermometers, considering the strong dependence of luminous intensity and color on excitation wavelength and temperature, we combined these two phosphors to perform a series of demonstration experiments and acquired some fascinating results, which unequivocally confirmed that these phosphors have a bright future in the field of anti-counterfeiting and security labeling.

Abstract:We have co-doped Mn4+ and Dy3+ into a perovskite structure host BaLaMgNbO6 (BLMN) in order to develop a new scheme of dual-mode optical thermometry. All the samples including single-doped and co-doped samples were successfully synthesized via a high-temperature solid-state reaction method. The phase purity and luminescence properties of the phosphors were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, photoluminescence excitation and emission spectra. In particular, temperature-dependent emission spectra as well as luminescence decay curves measurements were performed on the co-doped BLMN:Mn4+, Dy3+ sample to inspect its temperature-dependent luminescence properties. Under 355 nm excitation, the fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) between Dy3+ emission at 580 nm (F-4(9/2) -> H-6(13/2)) and Mn4+ emission at 698 nm (E-2(g) ->(4)A(2g)) as well as the fluorescence lifetime of Mn4+ (E-2(g) -> (4)A(2g)) were investigated in the temperature range from 230 K to 470 K, and the maximum relative sensitivities are 1.82% K-1 at 457 K and 2.43% K-1 at 437 K, respectively. It should be noted that the emission peak of Mn4+ whose luminescence can be employed by lifetime-mode temperature sensing is located in the optical window of biological tissue, which could be used in biological application. All these investigations suggest that the BLMN:Mn4+, Dy3+ phosphor is very promising in dual-mode high-sensitivity optical thermometry.

Abstract:Mn4+ and Tb3+ singly doped and Mn4+/Tb3+ codoped lutetium aluminum garnet (Lu3Al5O12, or simply LuAG) phosphors were synthesized and investigated for the application of optical thermometry. X-ray powder diffraction and luminescence spectroscopy measurements were performed on all samples to analyze their crystal phases and optical properties. In particular, temperature-dependent luminescence of the LuAG:Mn4+/Tb3+ sample was measured at the temperature range of 270-420 K. The results showed that the luminescence intensity of Mn4+ has gone through a remarkable decline while the luminescence of Tb3+ has an only insignificant change with the rise of temperature which leads to a dramatic decrease in the fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) between the two activator Mn4+ and Tb3+. Further analysis showed that the LuAG:Mn4+/Tb3+ sample used for temperature sensing has a high relative sensitivity with maximum value of 4.3% K-1 at 333 K. Our research indicated that this LuAG:Mn4+/Tb3+ material is a promising candidate for FIR-type optical temperature sensing.

Abstract:Herein, we demonstrated an optical thermometer based on single Eu2+ doped Ca9Mg1.5(PO4)7 phosphors, which was prepared by traditional solid-state reaction technique under a reduction atmosphere. Considerations on the bond length obtained by the crystal structure refinement and the dependent photoluminescence performances allow to assign the two distinct emission bands to Eu2+ ions occupied Ca1–Ca3 and Mg2 sites. Moreover, the blue and red emitting bands perfectly match with the photosynthetic action spectrum, which can enhance the indoor plant photosynthesis. The optimal doping content of Eu2+ ions in this Ca9Mg1.5(PO4)7 system is 3 mol%. The corresponding concentration quenching effect is verified as dipole–dipole interaction with the critical distance of 3.315 nm. Furthermore, by exploiting the fluorescence intensity technique, the optical thermal resistance properties of Ca9Mg1.5(PO4)7:Eu2+ are identified based on the temperature dependent emission spectra in a range of 303–523 K. In detail, the maximum absolute and relative sensitivity S a, S r of Ca9Mg1.5(PO4)7:Eu2+ thermometer are as high as 0.637%/K and 0.3155 K–1, respectively. Consequently, the Eu2+ doped Ca9Mg1.5(PO4)7 phosphors establish a bifunctional platform for both optical thermometer and plant growth lighting via multi-site occupancies.
