Abstract:The stochastic averaging method for a quasi-integrable Hamiltonian system has been applied to the study of the motion of active Brownian particles. Firstly, the stochastic averaging method is introduced. Then, the stationary solution of the dynamic equations governing an active Brownian particle moving in a plane with Schienbein-Gruler velocity-dependent friction model subject to Guassian white noise excitation is obtained by using this method. The solution is proved validated by comparison with the results from digital simulation and those from experiment. Finally, the solutions for the Rayleigh and Erdamnn model are also given.

Abstract:In the paper we consider systems in oscillating force fields such that the classical method of averaging can be applied. We present sufficient conditions for the existence of forced oscillations in such systems and study the asymptotic behaviour of some solutions. In particular, we show that for an inverted pendulum with a horizontally moving pivot point in an oscillating gravity field there exists a solution along which the pendulum never falls.

Abstract:The k-core of a graph G is the maximal subgraph of G having minimum degree at least k. In 1996, Pittel, Spencer and Wormald found the threshold $\lambda_c$ for the emergence of a non-trivial k-core in the random graph $G(n,\lambda/n)$, and the asymptotic size of the k-core above the threshold. We give a new proof of this result using a local coupling of the graph to a suitable branching process. This proof extends to a general model of inhomogeneous random graphs with independence between the edges. As an example, we study the k-core in a certain power-law or `scale-free' graph with a parameter c controlling the overall density of edges. For each k at least 3, we find the threshold value of c at which the k-core emerges, and the fraction of vertices in the k-core when c is \epsilon above the threshold. In contrast to $G(n,\lambda/n)$, this fraction tends to 0 as \epsilon tends to 0.

Abstract:The paper develops an approximate solution by means of an averaging method to the system of Euler's equations with additional perturbation terms for a nearly dynamically spherical rigid body containing a viscoelastic element. The averaging method is used. The asymptotic approach permits to obtain some qualitative results and to describe evolution of angular motion using simplified averaged equations and numerical solution. The main objective of this paper is to extend the previous results for the problem of motion about a center of mass of a rigid body under the influence of small internal torque (cavity filled with a fluid of high viscosity) or external torques (resistive medium, constant body-fixed torque). This paper can be considered as mainstreaming of previous works. The advantage of this paper is in receiving the original asymptotic and numerical calculations, as well as solutions that describe the evolution of motion a rigid body with a moving mass over an infinite time interval with an asymptotically small error. The paper presents a contribution in several areas, partially in the problems of spacecraft and satellite motion, and the activities of crew members about the vehicles. The importance of the results is in the progress of moving mass control, and in the motion of spinning projectiles.

Abstract:Rapidly rotating bodies moving in curved space-time experience the so-called spin-curvature force, which becomes important for the motion of compact objects in gravitational-wave inspirals. As a first approximation, this effect is captured in the motion of a spinning test particle. We solve the equations motion of a spinning particle to leading order in spin in arbitrary static and spherically symmetric space-times in terms of one-dimensional closed-form integrals. This solves the problem and proves its integrability in a wide range of modified gravities and near exotic compact objects. Then, by specializing to the case of bound orbits in Schwarzschild space-time, we demonstrate how to express the solution in the form of Jacobi elliptic functions. https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevLett.132.171401 © 2024 American Physical Society

Study of the asymptotic motion of a sporting projectile taking into account the Magnus force

Abstract:A classic problem of the motion of a projectile thrown at an angle to the horizon is studied. Air resistance force and Magnus force are taken into account with the use of the quadratic laws. We consider the asymptotic motion of the projectile, i.e., the motion on a sufficiently large time interval. The equations of motion are written both in Cartesian coordinates and in natural axes. The aim of the study is the analytical determination of the characteristics of asymptotic motion - the limiting angle of inclination of the trajectory to the horizontal and the terminal velocity, and obtaining an analytical representation for the velocity hodograph. No restrictions are imposed on the initial throwing conditions and other parameters. The equations of motion in Cartesian coordinates are used to find the angle of inclination of the trajectory and the terminal velocity. The equations of motion in natural axes are used to determine velocity hodograph. The velocity hodograph is defined in the form an approximate implicit analytical formula linking the trajectory angle of the projectile to its velocity. The motion of a golf ball, is presented as example. Numerical calculations show a complete coincidence of analytically found values of required quantities with numerically found values. The proposed analytical formulas can be useful for all researchers of this classical problem

Abstract:The paper propose the method for solving the Euler–Lambert problem proposed by V.A. Egorov and based on the works by D.E. Okhotsimsky, devoted to the analysis of a set of flight trajectories between two given points in the central Newtonian field. When considering the Euler–Lambert problem as the inverse problem of ballistics (dynamics), we have succeeded in developing a new effective method for determining the orbit corresponding to a given flight time. It is logical to name this approach the Okhotsimsky–Egorov method. In the considered approach, the parameter of the set of flights is the initial flight-path angle. The advantages of the proposed method are the limited and understandable structure of the domain of definition of solutions, the simplicity and clarity of the algorithm, and the clear dependence of the solution on the initial velocity. It enables a qualitative analysis of flight trajectories and the construction of effective numerical methods. To solve the Euler–Lambert problem Halley's numerical method was used. A computational complexity analysis of considered algorithm was carried out and demonstrated its high efficiency.

Abstract:To adequately describe the motion of a particle in a central force field, one has to specify the apsidal angle (α). The particle's trajectory can only be truly periodic (closed), if α/π is a rational number. For example, F∼1/r^2 then α=π, and the trajectory is an ellipse. This is the simplest case when the trajectory equation (Binet's equation) is exactly solvable. In this article, bounded motion in a two-component central potential field V(r)=-a_1/r-a_2/r^2 will be examined and illustrated. This case is more complex, but the corresponding Binet's equation is still exactly solvable. Moreover, the perturbational solution to the relativistic trajectory equation is, in fact, the exact solution for a force field of the same type. It means that the relativistic force F∼1/r^4 is formally replaced with an effective F∼1/r^3 force. As will be shown, this differently interpretable solution gives a very accurate prediction to the anomalous shift of Mercury's perihelion.

Abstract:A classic problem of the motion of a projectile thrown at an angle to the horizon is studied. Air resistance force is taken into account. The quadratic law for the resistance force is used. An analytic approach applies for the investigation. Equations of the projectile motion are solved analytically for an arbitrarily large period of time. The constructed analytical solutions are universal. As a limit case of motion, the vertical asymptote formula is obtained. The value of the vertical asymptote is calculated directly from the initial conditions of motion. There is no need to study the problem numerically. The found analytical solutions are highly accurate over a wide range of parameters. The motion of a baseball, a tennis ball and shuttlecock of badminton are presented as examples.

Abstract:This paper deals with deriving a simple linearized equation of motion for axisymmetric tops spinning on a table; the equation includes the effects of both friction and gravitation. The derived equation is a single second-order equation with complex number coefficients. The main variable is the inclination angle of the spinning axis, which is expressed by a single complex number. No Euler's angle is used. The precondition for linearization is that both the angular momentum vector and the spinning axis are close to the zenith direction. The friction is assumed to be viscous, and the friction torque can be expressed by using the height of the gravity center and the radius of the curvature at the contact point to the table. Two eigenvalues for the equation give a deep insight into the attitude behavior. The root-locus method was applied to explain the spinning motion stability of various axisymmetric bodies. An analytical solution for a horizontally suspended spinning top is given to show that the locus of the spinning axis is a trochoid.

Abstract:Computer algebra methods are used to investigate properties of a nonlinear algebraic system that determines the equilibrium orientations for a system of two bodies connected by a spherical hinge that moves along a circular orbit under the action of gravitational torque. To determine the equilibrium orientations for the system of two bodies, the system of 12 stationary algebraic equations is decomposed using linear algebra methods and algorithms for Gröbner basis construction. Depending on the parameters of the problem, the number of equilibria is found by analyzing the real roots of the algebraic equations from the Gröbner basis constructed. Evolution of the conditions for equilibria existence in the dimensionless parameter space of the problem is investigated. The effectiveness of the algorithms for Gröbner basis construction is analyzed depending on the number of parameters for the problem under consideration.

Abstract:We consider the model of a ball elastically bouncing on a racket moving in the vertical direction according to a given periodic function $f(t)$. The gravity force is acting on the ball. We prove that if the function $f(t)$ belongs to a class of trigonometric polynomials of degree $2$ then there exists a one dimensional continuum of initial conditions for which the velocity of the ball tends to infinity. Our result improves a previous one by Pustyl'nikov and gives a new upper bound to the applicability of KAM theory to this model.

Abstract:A recent article by Borisov et al. [Regular and Chaotic Dynamics 23.3 (2018): 339-354.] studies the motion of a rigid ball in a rotating-saddle trap. The authors claim that they derive a new equation of motion from the Lagrangian formalism, which is different from the one we obtained from the Newtonian formalism in our recent work [American Journal of Physics 85.11 (2017): 821-829.]. We show here that these two equations of motion are the same. In addition, besides the reduced spin frequency and the moment of inertia coefficient, the stability condition given by the article is independent of the ball radius—this result is incorrect. The mistake is due to the fact that the center of mass and the contact point are not distinguished in the explicit expression of the local normal vector.

Abstract:The purpose of the article is to derive equations that determine the trajectory of a non-conservative natural system in configuration space in non-stationary external fields. A theorem on the change in the kinetic energy of the system is preliminarily proved. Lagrange equations are used to derive the equations. The derived equations can be solved numerically by the Runge-Kutta method of the 4th order. The trajectory equations together with the equality describing its parameterization form the trajectorial method for solving dynamics problems.

Abstract:The equilibrium point in an irregular gravitational field has been a focus of recent research. The numerical results indicated the number of equilibrium points in an irregular gravitational field is always odd, regardless of the shape or density of the celestial body. This article applies the topological degree theory and demonstrates the mathematical theory and physical mechanism of this phenomenon. We study the equilibrium points of the force field in the fixed coordinate system of a rotating homogeneous ball and generalize the results to the irregular gravitational field by the homotopy method. We demonstrate intrinsic properties of equilibrium points in the irregular gravitational field, which are independent of the shape, angular velocity, or density distribution of the celestial body under certain assumptions. The conclusions are also extended to the multiple celestial bodies system. In the end, real asteroids are used as numerical examples to verify the conclusions, and the results agree well with our analysis.

By considering an explicitly coupling between an arbitrary function of the scalar Gauss-Bonnet, G and the Lagrangian density of matter, it is shown that an extra force normal to their four-velocities arises. In this paper, we obtain the extra force and the generalized Raychaudhuri equation in F(G) modified theory of gravity in an imperfect fluid for the massive particle by divergence of energy momentum tensor so we earn extra force an Raychaudhuri equation in a compared with f(R) modified gravity for perfect fluid this conclusion giving the evolution of the kinematical quantities and describing the relative accelerations of nearby particles .

Abstract:A classic problem of the motion of a projectile thrown at an angle to the horizon in a medium with a quadratic resistance law is studied. An approximate analytical solution of the equations of projectile motion is presented, which has a high accuracy. The proposed formulas are universal, that is, they can be used for any initial conditions of throwing over a wide range of the change of medium resistance coefficient. The motion of a shuttlecock of badminton, bullet, table tennis ball and volleyball are presented as examples.
Equations of motion for general nonholonomic systems from the d'Alembert principle via an algebraic method

Abstract:The aim of this study is to present an alternative way to deduce the equations of motion of general (i.e., also nonlinear) nonholonomic constrained systems starting from the d'Alembert principle and proceeding by an algebraic procedure. The two classical approaches in nonholonomic mechanics -- Cetaev method and vakonomic method -- are treated on equal terms, avoiding integrations or other steps outside algebraic operations. In the second part of the work we compare our results with the standard forms of the equations of motion associated to the two method and we discuss the role of the transpositional relation and of the commutation rule within the question of equivalence and compatibility of the Cetaev and vakonomic methods for general nonholonomic systems.

Abstract:The well known Euler-Lagrange equations of motion for constrained variational problems are derived using the principle of virtual work. These equations are used in the modelling of multibody systems and result in differential-algebraic equations of high index. Here they concern an N-link pendulum, a heavy aircraft towing truck and a heavy off-highway track vehicle. The differential-algebraic equation is cast as an ordinary differential equation through differentiation of the constraint equations. The resulting system is computed using the integration routine LSODAR, the Euler and fourth order Runge-Kutta methods. The difficulty to integrate this system is revealed to be the result of many highly oscillatory forces of large magnitude acting on many bodies simultaneously. Constraint compliance is analyzed for the three different integration methods and the drift of the constraint equations for the three different systems is shown to be influenced by nonlinear contact forces.
