Abstract:To solve the construction ventilation problem of super long (length greater than 10000 m) tunnel passing through discrete lenticular gas bag tunnel under complex working conditions in carbonaceous shale stratum, relying on the construction of Banzhulin tunnel of the new Xuyong-Bijie Railway (Sichuan-Yunnan). Using the finite element analysis software, the flow field distribution of the tunnel return air flow in the case of simultaneous excavation of multiple working faces is simulated, and the formation position and influence range of the vortex area which is easy to form gas accumulation are analyzed. On this basis, the technical team developed the PLC uninterruptible self starting ventilation power supply control program. By comparing the changes in the time required for ventilation power supply failure before and after the adoption of this technology, and the comparison of the gas concentration in the return air flow within a relatively short time of the failure, it is proved that this technology reduces the fault response time to 15.74% of the original time, and can well avoid gas accumulation within the failure time, It provides some reference for similar engineering construction.

Abstract:The gas accumulation in the return corner of a high-gas fully mechanized mining face can easily cause the gas volume fraction to exceed the safety limit, threatening the safety of coal mines. In this study, the unit method was used to analyze the gas sources and emissions based on the actual case. The airflow and gas distribution characteristics of the two-inlet-one-outlet (TIOO) ventilation system and the one-inlet-two-outlet (OITO) ventilation system were studied using CFD numerical simulation. The results show that under the TIOO ventilation system, the “U”-type air leakage in the goaf leads deep gas into the return corner, which causes the gas volume fraction in the return corner to rise to 0.4–2.0%. After the mining face is optimized into the OITO ventilation system, the “J”-type air leakage of the goaf suppresses the high concentration of gas in the deep position of the goaf. Combined with the gas extraction measures, the gas volume fraction in the return corner, exhaust roadway’s outlet, and retaining roadway’s outlet is controlled at 0.28%, 0.34%, and 0.23%. This study will provide new ideas for solving the problem of gas accumulation in the return corner of a high-gas fully mechanized mining face.

Abstract:Abstract In view of the ventilation status of xiaobaodang coal mine fully mechanized driving face, this paper puts forward the idea of using full extraction ventilation to solve the problem of pollution air leakage in long pressure short suction ventilation, which provides a new idea for dust control of fully mechanized excavation in xiaobaodang coal mine. Solid geometry model of fully mechanized driving face is established by SolidWorks. The influence of different distance between suction outlet and head-on and different air volume on dust migration distribution and dust control effect is analyzed by fluent. The results show that the best dust control effect is obtained when the air volume is set at 300m 3 / min and the distance between the suction outlet and the head-on is 5m. The dust concentration is lower than 10mg / m 3 in the air duct side, 8m in the central section of the air duct and 16m in the height of the respiratory zone on the pedestrian side. The dust control effect is better at the side far away from the air duct. The measured results are consistent with the numerical simulation results. In addition, the optimized dust control method was verified on site, and the dust reduction efficiency at the driver's place and personnel walking position reached 62.8% and 82.8% respectively.

Abstract:In order to study the problems of unreasonable airflow distribution and serious dust pollution in a heading surface, an experimental platform for forced ventilation and dust removal was built based on the similar principles. Through the similar experiment and numerical simulation, the distribution of airflow field in the roadway and the spatial and temporal evolution of dust pollution under the conditions of forced ventilation were determined. The airflow field in the roadway can be divided into three zones: jet zone, vortex zone and reflux zone. The dust concentration gradually decreases from the head to the rear of the roadway. Under the forced ventilation conditions, there is a unilateral accumulation of dust, with higher dust concentrations away from the ducts. The position of the equipment has an interception effect on the dust. The maximum error between the test value and the simulation result is 12.9%, which verifies the accuracy of the experimental results. The research results can provide theoretical guidance for the application of dust removal technology in coal mine.

Abstract:Abstract Based on the computational fluid dynamics and mine ventilation theory, the geometrical model of the fully mechanized excavation face under the conditions of long-short and short-pump ventilation system was established with the comprehensive mining face of the 905 transportation lane in Shanxi Coal Group. The FLUENT software is used to simulate the distribution characteristics and variation of the wind flow field and dust field in the three-dimensional space of the fully mechanized excavation working face at different air supply speeds, and the simulation results are verified by field test. According to the numerical simulation study and the on-site measurement results, the optimal position of the dust migration law of the fully mechanized excavation face under the long-short and short-drain ventilation mode is determined, and the rationalization suggestions for the mine dust control are put forward.

Abstract:Mining coal seams with high coal gas content and coal spontaneous combustion (SponCom) risk is often a challenge for mining engineers. Control measures for maintaining the gas concentration under the regulation permissible limit (Generally 1%) as well as reducing coal fire risks must be taken simultaneously in order to create safety production conditions. However, in reality, such measures either for gas or for fire problems are sometimes conflictive. For an example, the basic strategy of gas control in underground is to increase the ventilation airflow for sweeping the longwall working face and diluting the gas concentration, but it also results in leakage of an amount of air into the mine gob area sufficient to support the coal SponCom development process. Conversely, sealing or isolating mine gob areas can easily cause the gas accumulation which may increase the gas explosion risk. To conquer this dilemma situation, it is necessary to deeply understand the coupling relationship between the mine gases and coal SponCom controls. In this paper, based on a real case in an underground coal mine, a ventilation parameters optimization research is conducted by using the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation approach for solving the stated contradiction problems to derive the optimum solutions for both managing gas hazards and fire risks in the underground. In this study, the boundary conditions are fully considered in accordance with the reality. A list of important ventilation parameters including the air quantity supplied to the mine working face, the negative ventilation pressure in the roof roadway for gas drainage and reasonable distributed airflow quantity in tailgate roadways, are investigated. The research findings balance the requirements both for gas control and fire-prevention. The proposed method could be applied to guide the mine design practices in improving safety.

Abstract:The aerosolized dust produced during coal mining operations pollutes underground air environment and increases the risk of lung diseases in coal miners, such as pneumoconiosis. Aiming to solve the dust pollution in mechanized excavation face, the integrated vortex ventilation and dust removal system is designed based on swirling jet flow theory. The design principles and technological parameters of the major components of integrated vortex ventilation and dust removal (IVVDR) system, namely vortex ventilation device and wet dust collector are described systematically. Through numerical simulation and field experiments, the dust control and dust removal effects of IVVDR system were analyzed and tested. The numerical simulation results show that the swirling jet flows produced by wall-attached duct can control most of total and respirable dust in the area between working face and exhausting air outlet. In addition, the IVVDR system provides better control and removal effect of smaller respirable dust. In field application, the IVVDR system has better performance compared with the long-compression short-suction (LCSS) ventilation. In conclusion, the concentration of total and respirable dust in purified air are below 10 mg/m 3 , and in accordance with the mine safety regulations.

Abstract:Abstract To meet the actual demands on ventilation and dust removal in mine heading faces and to reduce the potential safety threats and pollution risks of dust, this study investigates the migration and distribution trends of airflow and dust fields at different air outlet positions and air speeds under scenarios using forced ventilation and long-forced-short-exhaust ventilation techniques at the heading face under continuous mining operation, which is accomplished in the engineering context of Xiaobaodang Coal Mine by a combination of two-phase flow analysis and finite element simulation. As the results reveal, the return air speeds exhibit a “rising-falling-stable” trend at different air outlet positions and inlet air speeds. Appropriate increase of inlet air speed is effective in covering the front corner area and in improving the dust distribution in the roadway. Dust concentration on the return air side is markedly higher than on the air duct side, with distribution primarily in the front section. In the case of forced ventilation for the roadway having a large cross-sectional area of 22 m2, reasonable dust distribution on the return air side can be ensured when the air duct outlet is 10 m away from the front and the inlet air speed is 11 m/s. In the case of long-forced-short-exhaust ventilation, reasonable settings are a 15 m distance of air duct outlet from the front and a 9 m/s speed of inlet air.

Abstract:Abstract In view of the problem of gas safety in fully mechanized caving face under complex geological conditions, taking high-level borehole gas extraction as the main gas control means to improve the extraction effect and ensure gas safety during mining, this paper takes 131301 fully mechanized caving face of Xinji No. 1 Coal Mine of Zhongmei as an example to study and analyze the layout of high-level borehole. Through the actual measurement, the gas concentration in the upper corner retaining wall is basically controlled below 0.2%, and in the return air lane is controlled below 0.08%, which shows that this method has achieved good gas drainage effect and ensured gas safety during mining.

Abstract:The airflow exchange between the mine ventilation system and the surface atmosphere can influence ventilation effectiveness and emit more greenhouse gas from the mine for shallow cover mines. This airflow exchange also changes the airflow dynamics at the ventilation system, specially at the tailgate corner of the longwall. In this study, the fix-point traverse technique was employed to conduct a comprehensive survey at a coal mine longwall face and tailgate region. The air velocity, oxygen and carbon monoxide concentrations, barometric pressure, and temperature were measured and surveyed. Based on the survey data, the airflow pattern and gas concentration were analyzed at return air corner on the tailgate side. Based on the measurement and analyses, it was found that the airflow at the face can be broken into two compartments by the hydraulic cylinder. These two compartments can periodically exchange the air at the face. This can influence the abnormal gas concentration for the release of carbon monoxide from the gob attributed from coal spontaneous combustion. Also, our study provided detailed information for more understanding of airflow in working face and gob by simulation method in the future work.

Abstract:Underground mines have gradually entered the stage of deep mining with the consumption of shallow mineral resources, which makes mine ventilation networks generally complicated and the problem of unstable supply of branch airflow volume in deep-level ventilation networks increasingly serious. The scientific distribution of the airflow volume between operation areas has become an important problem in the optimization of mine ventilation systems. This study takes the ventilation system of the Xinli Submine of Sanshandao Gold Mine as an example to analyze the airflow volume regulation demand of the deep-level section stope to further improve the coordination of the airflow volume distribution in the underground mine. The drawing and equivalent simplification of the ventilation network diagram are completed according to the engineering parameters of the target level roadway, and the sensitivity matrix is calculated using a formula. The optimization of the adjustment branch and the formulation of the adjustment scheme are carried out based on the sensitivity matrix. By realizing the adjustment objective of the branch airflow volume via comparing the airflow volume of the ventilation network before and after adjustment, the adjustment scheme can make the airflow volume distribution in the level more balanced. The results of our study show that branch sensitivity theory is theoretically feasible for analyzing and solving the problem of the mine ventilation network, which has certain practical significance for the adjustment of airflow volume in mines.

Abstract:Abstract In order to effectively improve the efficiency of ventilation and dust removal, the flow field and dust migration characteristics under different ventilation parameters are deeply studied and analyzed by using the method of similar experiment and numerical simulation. Research results show that the change of the height of the ventilation duct affects the shape of the jet fluid, wind velocity distribution, the vortex distribution and the degree of disturbance of the airflow in the recirculation zone. When the height of the ventilation duct is h = 0.625 H (H is the height of the roadway), it shows a good ventilation and dust removal efficiency in roadway. The closer the ventilation duct is to the working face, the greater the eddy current intensity in the roadway and the more serious the dust accumulation. If the ventilation duct is 2 m away from the head, the dust concentration in roadway is relatively low. It shows a better ventilation and dedusting effect when the air velocity of ventilation duct v = 30 m/s, but it has a weak influence on the flow field structure in the roadway. The research results provide theoretical guidance for the selection, design and parameter optimization of the roadway ventilation and dust removal process.

Abstract:To scientifically and effectively manage exhaust pollution in underground confined spaces and reduce hazards from personnel exhaust exposure, a systematic study of the distribution characteristics of diesel locomotive exhaust emissions in mines is needed. Aiming at large underground coal mining operations, an experimental platform for the physical simulation of vehicle exhaust transport in restricted spaces is designed and created. The Hongliulin Coal Mine in Shaanxi Province, China, is used as a prototype, and the platform consists of a coal mining face system, ventilation system, exhaust emission system, monitoring and surveillance system, and control platform. The experimental platform with carbon dioxide simulation of diesel exhaust pollution, in the role of different wind speed, the concentration of carbon dioxide is a downward trend, the wind speed is in the low wind speed on the 0.2 m of the concentration difference of 25.75%; the experimental platform exhaust transport process presents a clear "three-zone" change rule; experimental platform carbon dioxide concentration and the field nitrogen dioxide concentration change trend is consistent. The platform functions and features can provide guidance for mine exhaust management and exhaust exposure hazard prevention and control.

Abstract:The development of coal industry is restricted by dust pollution. Air curtain dust control technology was proposed as a solution to the serious problem of pollution. A mixture of numerical modeling and field tests has been used to study this technology. Numerical simulation is used to analyze the dust control effect of this technology under different dust generation conditions. Field measurements are used to verify the effectiveness of this technology. The results show that following the application of this technology, the fan-shaped air curtain generated by the fans forms a trapezoidal protective area between the coal cutter and the sidewalk. This protective area prevents dust from entering the coal-cutter driver’s workspace. The average dust concentrations where the coal-cutter driver works were 1590 and 466 mg/m3, severally, before and after the implementation of this technology. The dust control rate in this space is approximately 70.69%. This research provides useful data for dust control technology in fully mechanized mining faces, and will contribute to the stable development of coal fuel.

Abstract:Civil defense projects, designed as wartime underground spaces, often lack effective natural ventilation and have considerable depth, which complicates their use as public spaces in peacetime. However, the application of passive ventilation technologies can create effective airflow channels within these structures, significantly enhancing ventilation efficiency and thus improving the overall thermal comfort level. For this study, air age, along with average wind speed, temperature, and relative humidity as stipulated by the "Requirements for Environmental Sanitation of Civil Air Defense Works during Peacetime Use" (GBT 17216-2012), were selected as evaluation metrics. This paper compares the ventilation effectiveness between single ventilation shafts and multiple ventilation shafts under positive and negative pressure conditions in underground civil defense structures. The results indicate that negative pressure ventilation in multiple shaft configurations performs optimally across various ventilation approaches. Subsequently, the Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was utilized to further optimize the positioning of multiple ventilation shafts. The study examined the impact of three ventilation shaft locations on average wind speed, temperature, relative humidity, and air age, leading to an optimized design. Specifically, the optimal positions are 54.76 m for Shaft A, 51.45 m for Shaft B, and 79.85 m for Shaft C, achieving an average wind speed of 0.222 m/s, a temperature of 26 °C, a relative humidity reduction to 85.47%, and an average air age of 10.57 s. This research provides practical insights for the optimization of ventilation in underground civil defense facilities.

Abstract:At present, as the increasingly drilling dimensions with cross-section expansion and distance prolong in coal mine, the situation of gas accumulation in mechanized heading face becomes severe. In this paper, optimization research of gas distribution was carried out by adjusting parameters of the air duct outlet, including angle, caliber and the front and rear distance of air duct outlet. Mechanized heading face of Ningtiaota coal mine was taken as the research object, simulated and analyzed the problems of original gas field, the reasonable parameters range of the air duct outlet was determined according to the allowable range of wind speed and the effect of gas dilution, the adjustment range of each parameter of the air duct outlet is preliminarily determined. Base on this, the distribution of gas field under different parameters adjustment of air duct outlet was simulated. The specific parameters under the different distance between the air duct outlet and the mechanized heading face were obtained, and a new method of optimizing the gas distribution by adjusting parameters of the air duct outlet was provided.

Abstract:Abstract The mine ventilation system plays a role in purifying the air and providing a good working environment in coal mine production. Aiming at the unclear concept and inconsistency in solving problems in the process of intelligent construction of mine ventilation system, this paper conducts exploratory research on the connotation of mine ventilation intelligence, theoretical structure model, construction logic and scientific problems to be solved by means of literature review, on-site investigation and qualitative analysis. The research results show that the mine ventilation intelligent system needs to use real-time and full monitoring data, and by integrating brain science principles, machine learning and analysis and other technologies, it can immediately correct the air volume distribution defects, realize automatic power adjustment, remote facility management and control and accurate disaster identification. The theoretical model from the inside to the outside is the concept layer, the key scientific issues and technology layer, the model layer, the application layer and the theoretical support layer. The intelligent process of mine ventilation needs to comprehensively consider the relationship between the conscious human body, the cyber body and the ventilation physical entity in the processes of knowledge accumulation, knowledge modeling, knowledge movement, innovation and optimization, learning progress and feedback evolution. The intelligent ventilation system consists of perception layer, transmission layer and application layer. The research provides a theoretical basis for the intelligent construction of mine ventilation.

Abstract:Abstract To effectively reduce high dust concentrations and keep clean air in fully mechanized rock tunnelling faces in coal mine, this study carried out a research of dust suppression technology of the forcing air curtain. First, the mechanism of dust diffusion controlled by the forcing air curtain was introduced in this study. Then, numerical simulations of the formation of the forcing air curtain as well as the influence for dust diffusion under the different distance between forcing air duct outlet and heading end were carried out. Moreover, a dust suppression technology of the forcing air curtain was designed and tested in a fully mechanized rock tunnelling face of southern return air tunnel which was located in the Tangkou coal mine of China. It shows that the numerical simulation results were in good agreement with the in situ tests. The average removal rate of total and respirable dust could reach up to 95.1% and 96.1%, respectively, at manned working areas in the tunnel. Research results show that the dust suppression technology of the forcing air curtain is an effective method of dust control in fully mechanized rock tunnelling faces.
