Abstract:In this paper, new purely topological approaches are furnished in order to characterize self-majorizing elements in an Archimedean vector lattice A . More precisely, it is shown that an element $0<f\in a$ is a self-majorizing element if and only if every f -maximal order ideal of A is relatively uniformly closed. In addition, it is proved that self-majorizing elements are characterized via the hull–kernel topology on both the set of all proper prime order ideals and on the set of all g -maximal order ideals of A , for all In fact, the set of all prime order ideals of A not containing f (respectively, the set of all g -maximal order ideals of A not containing f , for all is a closed with respect to the hull–kernel topology on (respectively, on if and only if f is a self-majorizing element in A .

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a partially defined binary operation on the set S^+(ℋ) of all positive self-adjoint linear operators on a complex Hilbert space ℋ , which makes the set into a generalized effect algebra. Moreover, we present two kinds of partial orders on S^+(ℋ) and give the relationship of the two orders. We study two important topologies on S^+(ℋ) , too.
Self-improving boundedness of the maximal operator on quasi-Banach lattices over spaces of homogeneous type

Abstract:We prove the self-improvement property of the Hardy--Littlewood maximal operator on quasi-Banach lattices with the Fatou property in the setting of spaces of homogeneous type. Our result is a generalization of the boundedness criterion obtained in 2010 by Lerner and Ombrosi for maximal operators on quasi-Banach function spaces over Euclidean spaces. The specialty of the proof for spaces of homogeneous type lies in using adjacent grids of Hytönen--Kairema dyadic cubes and studying the maximal operator alongside its dyadic version. Then we apply the obtained result to variable Lebesgue spaces over spaces of homogeneous type.

Abstract:Let $ A$ be a complex unital Banach algebra. An element $a \in A$ is said to be Hermitian, if $ \| \exp (ita) \| =1$ for all $t\in R$. In the case of the algebra of bounded linear operators in a Hilbert space this Hermitian property agrees with the ordinary selfadjointness. If $a \in A$ is Hermitian, then $|a|=||a||$, where $|a|$ denotes the spectral radius of $a$. A function $F: R\to \C$ is called the universal symbol if $ \|| F(a)||= |F(a)|$\ for each $ A$ and all Hermitian $a\in A$. We characterize universal symbols in terms of positive definite functions.

Abstract:We characterize $M$-ideals in order smooth $\infty$-normed spaces by extending the notion of split faces of the state space to those of the quasi-state space. We also characterize approximate order unit spaces as those order smooth $\infty$-normed spaces $V$ that are $M$-ideals in $\tilde{V}.$ Here $\tilde{V}$ is the order unit space obtained by adjoining an order unit to $V.$ To prove these results, we develop an order theoretic version of the "Alfsen-Efffros' cone decomposition theorem" for order smooth $1$-normed spaces. (As a quick application of this result, we sharpen a result on the extension of bounded positive linear functionals on subspaces of order smooth $\infty$-normed spaces.)

Uniform Algebras Over Complete Valued Fields

Abstract:UNIFORM algebras have been extensively investigated because of their importance in the theory of uniform approximation and as examples of complex Banach algebras. An interesting question is whether analogous algebras exist when a complete valued field other than the complex numbers is used as the underlying field of the algebra. In the Archimedean setting, this generalisation is given by the theory of real function algebras introduced by S. H. Kulkarni and B. V. Limaye in the 1980s. This thesis establishes a broader theory accommodating any complete valued field as the underlying field by involving Galois automorphisms and using non-Archimedean analysis. The approach taken keeps close to the original definitions from the Archimedean setting. Basic function algebras are defined and generalise real function algebras to all complete valued fields. Several examples are provided. Each basic function algebra is shown to have a lattice of basic extensions related to the field structure. In the non-Archimedean setting it is shown that certain basic function algebras have residue algebras that are also basic function algebras. A representation theorem is established. Commutative unital Banach F-algebras with square preserving norm and finite basic dimension are shown to be isometrically F-isomorphic to some subalgebra of a Basic function algebra. The theory of non-commutative real function algebras was established by K. Jarosz in 2008. The possibility of their generalisation to the non-Archimedean setting is established in this thesis. In the context of complex uniform algebras, a new proof is given using transfinite induction of the Feinstein-Heath Swiss cheese "Classicalisation" theorem.

Abstract:Let $A$ be a unital Banach function algebra with character space $\Phi_A$. For $x\in \Phi_A$, let $M_x$ and $J_x$ be the ideals of functions vanishing at $x$, and in a neighbourhood of $x$, respectively. It is shown that the hull of $J_x$ is connected, and that if $x$ does not belong to the Shilov boundary of $A$ then the set $\{y\in\Phi_A: M_x\supseteq J_y\}$ has an infinite, connected subset. Various related results are given.

Abstract:We prove that the lattice of ideals of an arbitrary $L$-algebra is distributive. As a consequence, a spectral theory applies with no restriction. We also study the spectrum (i.e. the set of prime ideals) of $L$-algebras and characterize prime ideals in topological terms.

Abstract:Motivated by recent work about band projections on spaces of regular operators over a Banach lattice, given a Banach lattice algebra $A$, we will say an element $a \in A_+$ is a band projection if the multiplication operator $L_aR_a\in \mathcal L_r(A)$ is a band projection. Our aim in this note is to explore the relations between this and the notion of order idempotent (those elements $a$ in a Banach lattice algebra $A$ with identity $e$ such that $0\leq a\leq e$ and $a^2=a$). We also revisit the properties of the ideal generated by the identity on a Banach lattice algebra, motivated by those of the centre of a Banach lattice.

Abstract:Inspired by the theories of Kaplansky-Hilbert modules and probability theory in vector lattices, we generalise functional analysis by replacing the scalars $\mathbb{R}$ or $\mathbb{C}$ by a real or complex Dedekind complete unital $f$-algebra $\mathbb{L}$; such an algebra can be represented as a suitable space of continuous functions. We set up the basic theory of $\mathbb{L}$-normed and $\mathbb{L}$-Banach spaces and bounded operators between them, we discuss the $\mathbb{L}$-valued analogues of the classical $\ell^p$-spaces, and we prove the analogue of the Hahn-Banach theorem. We also discuss the basics of the theory of $\mathbb{L}$-Hilbert spaces, including projections onto convex subsets and the Riesz Representation theorem.

Abstract:The article associates two fundamental lattice constructions with each regular unital real ordered Banach space (function system). These are used to establish certain results in the theory of operator algebras, specifically relating the injective envelope of a separable C*-algebra with its enveloping von Neumann algebra in a given faithful separable representation. The last section investigates on lattices of projections arising in injective C*-algebras and von Neumann algebras and certain nonlinear maps sending projections to projections which are essentially determined by their values on positive projections.

Abstract:In this paper, we first introduce the concept of single elements in a module. A systematic study of single elements in the AlgL-module U is initiated, where L is a completely distributive subspace lattice on a Hilbert space H. Furthermore, as an application of single elements, we study module isomorphisms between norm closed AlgN-modules, where N is a nest, and obtain the following result: Suppose that U, V are norm closed AlgN-modules and that Phi : U -> V is a module isomorphism. Then U = V and there exists a non-zero complex number lambda such that Phi(T) = lambda T, for all T is an element of U.

Abstract:Abstract We prove the existence of a separable approximately ultra-homogeneous Banach lattice $\mathfrak {B}\mathfrak {L}$ that is isometrically universal for separable Banach lattices. This is done by showing that that the class of finitely generated Banach lattices has the Amalgamation Property and thus form a metric Fraïssé class. Some additional results about the structural properties of $\mathfrak { BL}$ are also proven.

Abstract:An analogue of Kakutani's representation theorem for Banach lattice algebras is provided. We characterize Banach lattice algebras that embed as a closed sublattice-algebra of $C(K)$ precisely as those with a positive approximate identity $(e_\gamma)$ such that $x^{*}(e_\gamma)\to \|x^{*}\|$ for every positive functional $x^{*}$. We also show that every Banach lattice algebra with identity other than $C(K)$ admits different product operations which are compatible with the order and the algebraic identity. This complements the classical result, due to Martignon, that on $C(K)$ spaces pointwise multiplication is the unique compatible product.

Abstract:Analogous to subfactor theory, employing Watatani's notions of index and $C^*$-basic construction of certain inclusions of $C^*$-algebras, (a) we develop a Fourier theory (consisting of Fourier transforms, rotation maps and shift operators) on the relative commutants of any inclusion of simple unital $C^*$-algebras with finite Watatani index, and (b) we introduce the notions of interior and exterior angles between intermediate $C^*$-subalgebras of any inclusion of unital $C^*$-algebras admitting a finite index conditional expectation. Then, on the lines of [2], we apply these concepts to obtain a bound for the cardinality of the lattice of intermediate $C^*$-subalgebras of any irreducible inclusion as in (a), and improve Longo's bound for the cardinality of intermediate subfactors of an inclusion of type $III$ factors with finite index. Moreover, we also show that for a fairly large class of inclusions of finite von Neumann algebras, the lattice of intermediate von Neumann subalgebras is always finite.

The Blackadar-Handelman theorem for non-unital C*-algebras

Abstract:A well-known theorem of Blackadar and Handelman states that every unital stably finite C*-algebra has a bounded quasitrace. Rather strong generalizations of stable finiteness to the non-unital case can be obtained by either requiring the multiplier algebra to be stably finite, or alternatively requiring it to be at least stably not properly infinite. This paper deals with the question whether the Blackadar-Handelman result can be extended to the non-unital case with respect to these generalizations of stable finiteness. For suitably well-behaved C*-algebras there is a positive result, but none of the non-unital versions holds in full generality. Two examples of C*-algebras are constructed. The first one is a non-unital, stably commutative C*-algebra $A$ that contradicts the weakest possible generalization of the Blackadar-Handelman theorem: The multiplier algebras of all matrix algebras over $A$ are finite, while $A$ has no bounded quasitrace. The second example is a non-unital, simple C*-algebra $B$ that is stably non-stable, i.e. no matrix algebra over $B$ is a stable C*-algebra. In fact, the multiplier algebras over all matrix algebras of this C*-algebra are not properly infinite. Moreover, the C*-algebra $B$ has no bounded quasitrace and therefore gives a simple counterexample to a possible generalization of the Blackadar-Handelman theorem.

Abstract:In this paper, we study B-Fredholm elements in rings and algebras. After characterising these elements in terms of generalized Fredholm elements, we will give a condition on the socle of a unital primitive Banach algebra $A$, under which we prove that an element of $A$ is a B-Fredholm element of index $0$ if and only if it is the sum of a Drazin invertible element of $A$ and an element of the socle of $A$.

Advances in Applied Clifford Algebras

Abstract:In this paper, we characterize all N -dimensional hypercomplex numbers having unital Archimedean f -algebra structure. We use matrix representation of hypercomplex numbers to define an order structure on the matrix spectra. We prove that the unique (up to isomorphism) unital Archimedean f -algebra of hypercomplex numbers of dimension is that with real and simple spectrum. We also show that these number systems can be made into unital Banach lattice algebras and we establish some of their properties. Furthermore, we prove that every 2 N -dimensional unital Archimedean f -algebra is the hyperbolization of that of dimension N . Finally, we consider hypercomplex number systems of dimension and give their explicit matrix representation and eigenvalue operators. This work is a multidimensional generalization of the results obtained in Gargoubi and Kossentini (Adv Appl Clifford Algebras 26(4):1211–1233, 2016) and Bilgin and Ersoy S (Adv Appl Clifford Algebras 30:13, 2020) for, respectively, the two and four-dimensional systems.
