Abstract:We prove sufficient conditions on a parameter sequence to determine optimal weights in inequalities for an integer power $\ell$ of the discrete Laplacian on the half-line. By a concrete choice of the parameter sequence, we obtain explicit optimal discrete Rellich ($\ell=2$) and Birman ($\ell\geq3$) weights. For $\ell=1$, we rediscover the optimal Hardy weight of Keller-Pinchover-Pogorzelski. For $\ell=2$, we improve upon the best known Rellich weights due to Gerhat-Krejčiřík-Štampach and Huang-Ye. For $\ell\geq3$, our main result proves a conjecture by Gerhat-Krejčiřík-Štampach and improves the discrete analogue of the classical Birman weight due to Huang-Ye to the optimal.

Abstract:In this article, via first establishing a weighted variant of the profound and far-reaching inequality obtained by A. Cohen, W. Dahmen, I. Daubechies, and R. DeVore in 2003, the authors give two new characterizations of Muckenhoupt weights. As an application, the authors further establish a representation formula of gradients with sharp parameters in ball Banach function spaces, which extends the famous formula obtained by H. Brezis, A. Seeger, J. Van Schaftingen, and P.-L. Yung in 2021 from classical Sobolev spaces to various different Sobolev-type spaces and gives an affirmative answer to the question in page 29 of [Calc. Var. Partial Differential Equations 62 (2023), Paper No. 234]. The most novelty of this article exists in subtly revealing the mutual equivalences among the Muckenhoupt weight, the weighted variant of the inequality of Cohen et al., and the weighted upper estimate of the formula of Brezis et al.

Optimal Power-Weighted Birman--Hardy--Rellich-type Inequalities on Finite Intervals and Annuli

Abstract:We derive an optimal power-weighted Hardy-type inequality in integral form on finite intervals and subsequently prove the analogous inequality in differential form. We note that the optimal constant of the latter inequality differs from the former. Moreover, by iterating these inequalities we derive the sequence of power-weighted Birman-Hardy-Rellich-type inequalities in integral form on finite intervals and then also prove the analogous sequence of inequalities in differential form. We use the one-dimensional Hardy-type result in differential form to derive an optimal multi-dimensional version of the power-weighted Hardy inequality in differential form on annuli (i.e., spherical shell domains), and once more employ an iteration procedure to derive the Birman-Hardy-Rellich-type sequence of power-weighted higher-order Hardy-type inequalities for annuli. In the limit as the annulus approaches $\mathbb{R}^n$, we recover well-known prior results on Rellich-type inequalities on $\mathbb{R}^n$.

Abstract:In this paper, we study composition operators on weighted Bergman spaces of Dirichlet series. We first establish some Littlewood-type inequalities for generalized mean counting functions. Then we give sufficient conditions for a composition operator with zero characteristic to be bounded or compact on weighted Bergman spaces of Dirichlet series. The corresponding sufficient condition for compactness in the case of positive characteristics is also obtained.

Abstract:In this paper, a weighted identity for some stochastic partial differential operators (with complex principal parts) is established. This identity presents a unified approach in establishing Carleman-type estimates for some deterministic/stochastic partial differential equations. Based on this identity, one can deduce some known global Carleman estimates for stochastic parabolic equations, stochastic Schrödinger equations, stochastic transport equations and their deterministic counterparts. Meanwhile, as its applications, we derive two different Carleman estimates for linear forward stochastic complex Ginzburg–Landau equations. They can be used to study the controllability/observability and inverse problems for some stochastic complex Ginzburg–Landau equations, respectively.

Weighted norm inequalities of various square functions and Volterra integral operators on the unit ball

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate various square functions on the unit complex ball. We prove the weighted inequalities of the Lusin area integral associated with Poisson integral in terms of $A_p$ weights for all $1<p<\infty$; this gives an affirmative answer to an open question raised by Segovia and Wheeden. To that end, we establish the weighted inequalities for Littlewood-Paley type square functions. As an interesting application, we obtain the weighted inequalities of the Lusin area integral associated with Bergman gradient. In addition, we get an equivalent characterization of weighted Hardy spaces by means of the Lusin area integral in the context of holomorphic functions. We also obtain the weighted inequalities for Volterra integral operators. The key ingredients of our proof involve complex analysis, Calderón-Zygmund theory, the local mean oscillation technique and sparse domination.

Abstract:In a series of publications of the second author, including some with coauthors, globally strictly convex Tikhonov-like functionals were constructed for some nonlinear ill-posed problems. The main element of such a functional is the presence of the Carleman Weight Function. Compared with previous publications, the main novelty of this paper is that the existence of the regularized solution (i.e. the minimizer) is proved rather than assumed. The method works for both ill-posed Cauchy problems for some quasilinear PDEs of the second order and for some Coefficient Inverse Problems. However, to simplify the presentation, we focus here only on ill-posed Cauchy problems. Along with the theory, numerical results are presented for the case of a 1-D quasilinear parabolic PDE with the lateral Cauchy data given on one edge of the interval (0,1).

On one dimensional weighted Poincare inequalities for Global Sensitivity Analysis

Abstract:One-dimensional Poincare inequalities are used in Global Sensitivity Analysis (GSA) to provide derivative-based upper bounds and approximations of Sobol indices. We add new perspectives by investigating weighted Poincare inequalities. Our contributions are twofold. In a first part, we provide new theoretical results for weighted Poincare inequalities, guided by GSA needs. We revisit the construction of weights from monotonic functions, providing a new proof from a spectral point of view. In this approach, given a monotonic function g, the weight is built such that g is the first non-trivial eigenfunction of a convenient diffusion operator. This allows us to reconsider the linear standard, i.e. the weight associated to a linear g. In particular, we construct weights that guarantee the existence of an orthonormal basis of eigenfunctions, leading to approximation of Sobol indices with Parseval formulas. In a second part, we develop specific methods for GSA. We study the equality case of the upper bound of a total Sobol index, and link the sharpness of the inequality to the proximity of the main effect to the eigenfunction. This leads us to theoretically investigate the construction of data-driven weights from estimators of the main effects when they are monotonic, another extension of the linear standard. Finally, we illustrate the benefits of using weights on a GSA study of two toy models and a real flooding application, involving the Poincare constant and/or the whole eigenbasis.

Abstract:We study functional and geometric inequalities on complete Finsler measure spaces with the weighted Ricci curvature bounded below. We first obtain some local uniform Poincaré inequalities and Sobolev inequalities. Then, we prove a mean value inequality for nonnegative subsolutions of elliptic equations. Further, we derive local and global Harnack inequalities for positive harmonic functions. Finally, we establish a global gradient estimate for positive harmonic functions on forward complete non-compact Finsler measure spaces. Besides, as an application of the mean value inequality, we prove a Liouville type theorem for harmonic functions.
