On the atomicity of one-dimensional monoid algebras

Abstract:The ascending chain condition on principal ideals (ACCP) is almost always complementary to atomicity within integral domains: in fact, Cohn initially stated that these two conditions were equivalent. This assertion has been shown to be false, however most counterexamples require technical algebraic constructions. In 2017, Gotti conjectured that for every $q$ in the set $S := ((0, 1) \cap \mathbb{Q}) \setminus {\mathbb{N}}^{-1}_{> 1}$, atomicity ascends from the exponentially cyclic Puiseux monoid $M_q$ to its monoid algebra over the field of rationals. If this conjecture were true, it would provide an extremely wide class of atomic domains of Krull dimension one not satisfying the ACCP, and so would be perhaps the simplest possible such examples. Bu et al. recently proved that the monoid algebra $\mathbb{Q} \left[M_{3/4} \right]$ is atomic, marking the first progress towards settling this conjecture. We strengthen this result and prove that $\mathbb{Q}[M_q]$ is atomic for all $q \in S$ having an odd denominator.

Abstract:In this note we give an axiomatization of Boolean algebras based on weakly dicomplemented lattices: an algebra $(L,\wedge,\vee,\tu)$ of type $(2,2,1)$ is a Boolean algebra iff $(L,\wedge,\vee)$ is a non empty lattice and $(x\wedge y)\vee(x\wedge y\tu)=(x\vee y)\wedge(x\vee y\tu)$ for all $x,y\in L$. This provides a unique equation to encode distributivity and complementation on lattices.

Abstract:The standard topological representation of a Boolean algebra via the clopen sets of a Stone space requires a nonconstructive choice principle, equivalent to the Boolean Prime Ideal Theorem. In this paper, we describe a choice-free topological representation of Boolean algebras. This representation uses a subclass of the spectral spaces that Stone used in his representation of distributive lattices via compact open sets. It also takes advantage of Tarski's observation that the regular open sets of any topological space form a Boolean algebra. We prove without choice principles that any Boolean algebra arises from a special spectral space X via the compact regular open sets of X; these sets may also be described as those that are both compact open in X and regular open in the upset topology of the specialization order of X, allowing one to apply to an arbitrary Boolean algebra simple reasoning about regular opens of a separative poset. Our representation is therefore a mix of Stone and Tarski, with the two connected by Vietoris: the relevant spectral spaces also arise as the hyperspace of nonempty closed sets of a Stone space endowed with the upper Vietoris topology. In addition to representation, we establish a choice-free dual equivalence between the category of Boolean algebras with Boolean homomorphisms and a subcategory of the category of spectral spaces with spectral maps. We show how this duality can be used to prove some basic facts about Boolean algebras.

Abstract:Our main result is that any topological algebra based on a Boolean space is the extended Stone dual space of a certain associated Boolean algebra with additional operations. A particular case of this result is that the profinite completion of any abstract algebra is the extended Stone dual space of the Boolean algebra of recognizable subsets of the abstract algebra endowed with certain residuation operations. These results identify a connection between topological algebra as applied in algebra and Stone duality as applied in logic, and show that the notion of recognition originating in computer science is intrinsic to profinite completion in mathematics in general. This connection underlies a number of recent results in automata theory including a generalization of Eilenberg-Reiterman theory for regular languages and a new notion of compact recognition applying beyond the setting of regular languages. The purpose of this paper is to give the underlying duality theoretic result in its general form. Further we illustrate the power of the result by providing a few applications in topological algebra and language theory. In particular, we give a simple proof of the fact that any topological algebra quotient of a profinite algebra which is again based on a Boolean space is in fact a profinite algebra and we derive the conditions dual to the ones of the original Eilenberg theorem in a fully modular manner. We cast our results in the setting of extended Priestley duality for distributive lattices with additional operations as some classes of languages of interest in automata fail to be closed under complementation.

Abstract:Motivated by the structure of the algebras associated to the blocks of the BGG-category O we define a subclass of quasi-hereditary algebras called 1-quasi-hereditary. Many properties of these algebras only depend on the defining partial order. In particular, we can determine the quiver and the form of the relations. Moreover, if the Ringel dual of a 1-quasi-hereditary algebra is also 1-quasi-hereditary, then the structure of the characteristic tilting module can be computed.

Abstract:We continue the investigation of Boolean-like algebras of dimension n (nBA) having n constants e1,...,en, and an (n+1)-ary operation q (a "generalised if-then-else") that induces a decomposition of the algebra into n factors through the so-called n-central elements. Varieties of nBAs share many remarkable properties with the variety of Boolean algebras and with primal varieties. Exploiting the concept of central element, we extend the notion of Boolean power to that of semiring power and we prove two representation theorems: (i) Any pure nBA is isomorphic to the algebra of n-central elements of a Boolean vector space; (ii) Any member of a variety of nBAs with one generator is isomorphic to a Boolean power of this generator. This gives a new proof of Foster's theorem on primal varieties.

Abstract:This paper aims to study bounded algebras in another perspective-dual ideals of bounded $ L $-algebras. As the dual concept of ideals in $ L $-algebras, dual ideals are designed to characterize some significant properties of bounded $ L $-algebras. We begin by providing a definition of dual ideals and discussing the relationships between ideals and dual ideals. Then, we prove that these dual ideals induce congruence relations and quotient $ L $-algebras on bounded $ L $-algebras. Naturally, in order to construct the first isomorphism theorem between bounded $ L $-algebras, the relationship between dual ideals and morphisms between bounded $ L $-algebras is investigated and that the kernels of any morphisms between bounded $ L $-algebras are dual ideals is proven. Fortunately, although the first isomorphism theorem between arbitrary bounded $ L $-algebras fails to be proven when using dual ideals, the theorem was proven when the range of morphism was good. Another main purpose of this study is to use dual ideals to characterize several kinds of bounded $ L $-algebras. Therefore, first, the properties of dual ideals in some special bounded $ L $-algebras are studied; then, some special bounded $ L $-algebras are characterized by dual ideals. For example, a good $ L $-algebra is a $ CL $-algebra if and only if every dual ideal is $ C $ dual ideal is proven.

Abstract:Let $A$ be a finitary algebra over a finite field $k$, and $A$-$mod$ the category of finite dimensional left $A$-modules. Let $\mathcal{H}(A)$ be the corresponding Hall algebra, and for a positive integer $r$ let $D_{r}(A)$ be the subspace of $\mathcal{H}(A)$ which has a basis consisting of isomorphism classes of modules in $A$-$mod$ with at least $r+1$ indecomposable direct summands. If $A$ is hereditary of type $A_{n}$, then $D_{r}(A)$ is known to be the kernel of the map from the twisted Hall algebra to the quantized Schur algebra indexed by $n+1$ and $r$. For any $A$, we determine necessary and sufficient conditions for $D_{r}(A)$ to be an ideal and some conditions for $D_{r}(A)$ to be a subring of $\mathcal{H}(A)$. For $A$ the path algebra of a quiver, we also determine necessary and sufficient conditions for $D_{r}(A)$ to be a subring of $\mathcal{H}(A)$.
One-dimensional monoid algebras and ascending chains of principal ideals

Abstract:An integral domain $R$ is called atomic if every nonzero nonunit of $R$ factors into irreducibles, while $R$ satisfies the ascending chain condition on principal ideals if every ascending chain of principal ideals of $R$ stabilizes. It is well known and not hard to verify that if an integral domain satisfies the ACCP, then it must be atomic. The converse does not hold in general, but examples are hard to come by and most of them are the result of crafty and technical constructions. Sporadic constructions of such atomic domains have appeared in the literature in the last five decades, including the first example of a finite-dimensional atomic monoid algebra not satisfying the ACCP recently constructed by the second and third authors. Here we construct the first known one-dimensional monoid algebras satisfying the almost ACCP but not the ACCP (the almost ACCP is a notion weaker than the ACCP but still stronger than atomicity). Although the two constructions we provide here are rather technical, the corresponding monoid algebras are perhaps the most elementary known examples of atomic domains not satisfying the ACCP.

The proof is obtained by constructing one to one correspondence between such algebras and partial orders on finite sets. Further, we prove that for a finite algebra, it has an irredundant non-refinable cover consists of primal algebras if and only if it is the both congruence primal and arithmetical. Finally, we obtain combinatorial description of congruence primal arithmetical algebras.

Abstract:Demonic composition, demonic refinement and demonic union are alternatives to the usual "angelic" composition, angelic refinement (inclusion) and angelic (usual) union defined on binary relations. We first motivate both the angelic and demonic via an analysis of the behaviour of non-deterministic programs, with the angelic associated with partial correctness and demonic with total correctness, both cases emerging from a richer algebraic model of non-deterministic programs incorporating both aspects. Zareckii has shown that the isomorphism class of algebras of binary relations under angelic composition and inclusion is finitely axiomatised as the class of ordered semigroups. The proof can be used to establish that the same axiomatisation applies to binary relations under demonic composition and refinement, and a further modification of the proof can be used to incorporate a zero element representing the empty relation in the angelic case and the full relation in the demonic case. For the signature of angelic composition and union, it is known that no finite axiomatisation exists, and we show the analogous result for demonic composition and demonic union by showing that the same axiomatisation holds for both. We show that the isomorphism class of algebras of binary relations with the "mixed" signature of demonic composition and angelic inclusion has no finite axiomatisation. As a contrast, we show that the isomorphism class of partial algebras of binary relations with the partial operation of constellation product and inclusion (also a "mixed" signature) is finitely axiomatisable.

Abstract:We give a definition of some classes of boolean algebras generalizing free boolean algebras; they satisfy a universal property that certain functions extend to homomorphisms. We give a combinatorial property of generating sets of these algebras, which we call n -independent. The properties of these classes (n-free and omega-free boolean algebras) are investigated. These include connections to hypergraph theory and cardinal invariants on these algebras. Related cardinal functions, n Ind, which is the supremum of the cardinalities of n-independent subsets; i_n, the minimum size of a maximal n -independent subset; and i_omega, the minimum size of an omega-independent subset, are introduced and investigated. The values of i_n and i_omega on P(omega)/fin are shown to be independent of ZFC. Ideal-independence is also considered, and it is shown that the cardinal function p <= s_mm for infinite boolean algebras. We also define and consider moderately generated boolean algebras; that is, those boolean algebras that have a generating set consisting of elements that split finitely many elements of the boolean algebra.

Abstract:We prove a version of the Cuntz--Krieger Uniqueness Theorem for $C^*$-algebras of arbitrary relative generalized Boolean dynamical systems. We then describe properties of a $C^*$-algebra of a relative generalized Boolean dynamical system when the underlying Boolean dynamical system satisfies Condition (K). We also define a notion of minimality of a Boolean dynamical system and give sufficient and necessary conditions for the minimality. Using these results, we characterize the generalized Boolean dynamical systems who's $C^*$-algebra is simple.

Abstract:Motivated by Haviar and Ploščica's 2021 characterisation of Boolean products of simple De Morgan algebras, we investigate Boolean products of simple algebras in filtral varieties. We provide two main theorems. The first yields Werner's Boolean-product representation of algebras in a discriminator variety as an immediate application. The second, which applies to algebras in which the top congruence is compact, yields a generalisation of the Haviar–Ploščica result to semisimple varieties of Ockham algebras. The property of having factor principal congruences is fundamental to both theorems. While major parts of our general theorems can be derived from results in the literature, we offer new, self-contained and essentially elementary proofs.

Filtered Boolean powers of finite simple non-abelian Mal'cev algebras

Abstract:Let $\mathbf{A}$ be a finite simple non-abelian Mal'cev algebra (e.g. a group, loop, ring). We investigate the Boolean power $\mathbf{D}$ of $\mathbf{A}$ by the countable atomless Boolean algebra $\mathbf{B}$ filtered at some idempotents $e_1,\dots,e_n$ of $\mathbf{A}$. When $e_1,\dots,e_n$ are all idempotents of $\mathbf{A}$ we establish two concrete representations of $\mathbf{D}$: as the Fraïssé limit of the class of finite direct powers of $\mathbf{A}$, and as congruence classes of the countable free algebra in the variety generated by $\mathbf{A}$. Further, for arbitrary $e_1,\dots,e_n$, we show that $\mathbf{D}$ is $\omega$-categorical and that its automorphism group has the small index property, strong uncountable cofinality and the Bergman property. As necessary background we establish some general properties of congruences and automorphisms of filtered Boolean powers of $\mathbf{A}$ by any Boolean algebra $\mathbf{B}$, including a semidirect decomposition for their automorphism groups.

Abstract:An algebraic structure with two constants and one ternary operation, which is not completely commutative, is put forward to accommodate ternary Boolean algebras. When the ternary operation is interpreted as Church's conditioned disjunction, Boolean algebras are characterized as a subvariety. Different interpretations for the ternary operation lead to distinct subvarieties. Rings and near-rings of characteristic 2 are used to illustrate the procedure.

Abstract:In this paper, we define on one hand, the notions of characteristics as well as central characteristics ideals of a given Leibniz algebra g and provide a necessary condition under which for two given subalgebras J and K of g such that, J IS a a non empty subset of K. J is a central characteristics two-sided ideal of K. On the other hand, we introduce the class of quasi-Noetherian Leibniz algebras. This generalizes both the class of Noetherian Leibniz algebras and that of quasi-Noetherian Lie algebras introduced by Falih and Stewart. We provide a necessary condition for a Leibniz algebra to be quasi-Noetherian. As in the case of Lie algebras, quasi-Noetherian Leibniz algebras are shown to be closed under quotients, but not under extensions. Finally, we leverage the maximal condition of abelian ideals to provide a characterization of Noetherian Leibniz algebras.
