Abstract:Λ-fractional differential equations are discussed since they exhibit non-locality and accuracy. Fractional derivatives form fractional differential equations, considered as describing better various physical phenomena. Nevertheless, fractional derivatives fail to satisfy the prerequisites of differential topology for generating differentials. Hence, all the sources of generating fractional differential equations, such as fractional differential geometry, the fractional calculus of variations, and the fractional field theory, are not mathematically accurate. Nevertheless, the Λ-fractional derivative conforms to all prerequisites demanded by differential topology. Hence, the various mathematical forms, including those derivatives, do not lack the mathematical accuracy or defects of the well-known fractional derivatives. A summary of the Λ-fractional analysis is presented with its influence on the sources of differential equations, such as fractional differential geometry, field theorems, and calculus of variations. Λ-fractional ordinary and partial differential equations will be discussed.

Abstract:The fractional differential equations involving different types of fractional derivatives are currently used in many fields of science and engineering. Therefore, the first purpose of this study is to investigate the qualitative properties including the stability, asymptotic stability, as well as Mittag–Leffler stability of solutions of fractional differential equations with the new generalized Hattaf fractional derivative, which encompasses the popular forms of fractional derivatives with non-singular kernels. These qualitative properties are obtained by constructing a suitable Lyapunov function. Furthermore, the second aim is to develop a new numerical method in order to approximate the solutions of such types of equations. The developed method recovers the classical Euler numerical scheme for ordinary differential equations. Finally, the obtained analytical and numerical results are applied to a biological nonlinear system arising from epidemiology.

Abstract:For fractional derivatives and time-fractional differential equations, we construct a framework on the basis of the operator theory in fractional Sobolev spaces. Our framework provides a feasible extension of the classical Caputo and the Riemann-Liouville derivatives within Sobolev spaces of fractional orders including negative ones. Our approach enables a unified treatment for fractional calculus and time-fractional differential equations. We formulate initial value problems for fractional ordinary differential equations and initial boundary value problems for fractional partial differential equations to prove the well-posedness and other properties.

Abstract:It is well-known that one-dimensional time fractional diffusion-wave equations with variable coefficients can be reduced to ordinary fractional differential equations and systems of linear fractional differential equations via scaling transformations. We then derive exact solutions to classes of linear fractional differential equations and systems thereof expressed in terms of Mittag-Leffler functions, generalized Wright functions and Fox H-functions. These solutions are invariant solutions of diffusion-wave equations obtained through certain transformations, which are briefly discussed. We show that the solutions given in this work contain previously known results as particular cases.

Abstract:Application of the fractional calculus to quantum processes is presented. In particular, the quantum dynamics is considered in the framework of the fractional time Schrödinger equation (SE), which differs from the standard SE by the fractional time derivative: $\frac{\prt}{\prt t}\to \frac{\prt^{\alpha}}{\prt t^{\alpha}}$. It is shown that for $\alpha =1/2$ the fractional SE is isospectral to a comb model. An analytical expression for the Green functions of the systems are obtained. The semiclassical limit is discussed.

Abstract:Fractional derivatives play a very important role in modeling physical phenomena involving long-range correlation effects. However, they raise challenges of computational cost and memory storage requirements when solved using current well developed numerical methods. In this paper, the differential operator multiplication method is proposed to address the issues by considering a reaction–advection–diffusion equation with a fractional derivative in time. The linear fractional differential equation is transformed into an integer order differential equation by the proposed method, which can fundamentally fix the aforementioned issues for select fractional differential equations. In such a transform, special attention should be paid to the initial conditions for the resulting differential equation of higher integer order. Through numerical experiments, we verify the proposed method for both fractional ordinary differential equations and partial differential equations.

Abstract:This study introduces an indirect approach to find the solutions of the fractional Bessel differential equation using fractional Bernoulli functions and Caputo's fractional derivative. This method transforms the problem into a nonlinear system of algebraic equations. The existence and uniqueness of the solution for the problem are proved. Moreover, operational matrices for fractional derivatives and time‐fractional integration are constructed. These operational matrices, together with the least square approximation technique, are used to reduce the problem to a nonlinear system of algebraic equations. Newton's iterative method is applied to solve the nonlinear algebraic equations. The convergence analysis and the error estimate of the proposed method are also provided. This study demonstrates the effectiveness and the significance of the proposed method for obtaining approximate fractional solutions and for researchers in related fields or specific areas. Four examples are given to illustrate the accuracy and the performance of the proposed method.

Abstract:The work considers a system of fractional order partial differential equations. The existence and uniqueness theorems for the classical solution of initial-boundary value problems are proved in two cases: 1) the right-hand side of the equation does not depend on the solution of the problem and 2) it depends on the solution, but at the same time satisfies the classical Lipschitz condition with respect to this variable and an additional condition which guarantees a global existence of the solution. Sufficient conditions are found (in some cases they are necessary) on the initial function and on the right-hand side of the equation, which ensure the existence of a classical solution. In previously known works, linear but more general systems of fractional pseudodifferential equations were considered and the existence of a weak solution was proven in the special classes of distributions.

Abstract:In this manuscript, the solutions of linear dynamical systems with fractional differential equations via themodified Riemann-Liouville derivative is derived. By using Jumarie type of derivative (JRL), we stated and provedthe Existence and uniqueness theorems of the dynamical systems with fractional order equations. Also a novel stability analysis of fractional dynamical systems by Jumarie type derivative is established and some important stability conditions are determined. The achieved results have various applications in mathematics, plasma physics and almost all branches of physics that have non-conservative forces. Finally, we investigated interesting application of nonlinear space-time fractional Korteweg-de Vries (STFKdV) equation in Saturn F-ring’s region. Moreover, our investigation could be basic interest to explain and interpret the effects of fractional and modification parameters on STFKdV equation. This is novel study on this model by dynamical system (DS) to describe the behavior of nonlinear waves without solve this system.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a new method for calculating fractional integrals and differentials. The method involves an equation that we have obtained from infinite applied integration by parts. The equation works for special class of functions and provides a series representation of integration. This representation will be useful for working with smooth functions and for approximation due to the potential reduction of the value of the sequential elements.

Fractional Calculus: Some Basic Problems in Continuum and Statistical Mechanics

Abstract:We review some applications of fractional calculus developed by the author (partly in collaboration with others) to treat some basic problems in continuum and statistical mechanics. The problems in continuum mechanics concern mathematical modelling of viscoelastic bodies (Sect. 1), and unsteady motion of a particle in a viscous fluid, i.e. the Basset problem (Sect. 2). In the former analysis fractional calculus leads us to introduce intermediate models of viscoelasticity which generalize the classical spring-dashpot models. The latter analysis induces us to introduce a hydrodynamic model suitable to revisit in Sect. 3 the classical theory of the Brownian motion, which is a relevant topic in statistical mechanics. By the tools of fractional calculus we explain the long tails in the velocity correlation and in the displacement variance. In Sect. 4 we consider the fractional diffusion-wave equation, which is obtained from the classical diffusion equation by replacing the first-order time derivative by a fractional derivative of order $0< \beta <2$. Led by our analysis we express the fundamental solutions (the Green functions) in terms of two interrelated auxiliary functions in the similarity variable, which turn out to be of Wright type (see Appendix), and to distinguish slow-diffusion processes ($0 < \beta < 1$) from intermediate processes ($1 < \beta < 2$).

Abstract:The L-fractional derivative is defined as a certain normalization of the well-known Caputo derivative, so alternative properties hold: smoothness and finite slope at the origin for the solution, velocity units for the vector field, and a differential form associated to the system. We develop a theory of this fractional derivative as follows. We prove a fundamental theorem of calculus. We deal with linear systems of autonomous homogeneous parts, which correspond to Caputo linear equations of non-autonomous homogeneous parts. The associated L-fractional integral operator, which is closely related to the beta function and the beta probability distribution, and the estimates for its norm in the Banach space of continuous functions play a key role in the development. The explicit solution is built by means of Picard's iterations from a Mittag–Leffler-type function that mimics the standard exponential function. In the second part of the paper, we address autonomous linear equations of sequential type. We start with sequential order two and then move to arbitrary order by dealing with a power series. The classical theory of linear ordinary differential equations with constant coefficients is generalized, and we establish an analog of the method of undetermined coefficients. The last part of the paper is concerned with sequential linear equations of analytic coefficients and order two.
