Abstract:A new and elementary proof of a recent result of Laptev and Weidl is given. It is a sharp Lieb-Thirring inequality for one dimensional Schroedinger operators with matrix valued potentials.

Abstract:In \cite{Nam} Nam proved a Lieb--Thirring Inequality for the kinetic energy of a fermionic quantum system, with almost optimal (semi-classical) constant and a gradient correction term. We present a stronger version of this inequality, with a much simplified proof. As a corollary we obtain a simple proof of the original Lieb--Thirring inequality.

Abstract:We give a short and unified proof of Hardy-Lieb-Thirring inequalities for moments of eigenvalues of fractional Schroedinger operators. The proof covers the optimal parameter range. It is based on a recent inequality by Solovej, Soerensen, and Spitzer. Moreover, we prove that any non-magnetic Lieb-Thirring inequality implies a magnetic Lieb-Thirring inequality (with possibly a larger constant).

Abstract:A generalized sharp Hardy inequality to the degenerate elliptic operators with respect to Grushin type operators is proved by ingeniously choosing test functions and calculating the maximum value of a quadratic equation. Some interesting corollaries are also listed.

Abstract:The non-bijective version of Wigner's theorem states that a map which is defined on the set of self-adjoint, rank-one projections (or pure states) of a complex Hilbert space and which preserves the transition probability between any two elements, is induced by a linear or antilinear isometry. We present a completely new, elementary and very short proof of this famous theorem which is very important in quantum mechanics. We do not assume bijectivity of the mapping or separability of the underlying space like in many other proofs.

Abstract:The Bloch theorem is a powerful theorem stating that the expectation value of the U(1) current operator averaged over the entire space vanishes in large quantum systems. The theorem applies to the ground state and to the thermal equilibrium at a finite temperature, irrespective of the details of the Hamiltonian as far as all terms in the Hamiltonian are finite ranged. In this work we present a simple yet rigorous proof for general lattice models. For large but finite systems, we find that both the discussion and the conclusion are sensitive to the boundary condition one assumes: under the periodic boundary condition, one can only prove that the current expectation value is inversely proportional to the linear dimension of the system, while the current expectation value completely vanishes before taking the thermodynamic limit when the open boundary condition is imposed. We also provide simple tight-binding models that clarify the limitation of the theorem in dimensions higher than one.

Abstract:It is well known that the strong subadditivity theorem is hold for classical system, but it is very difficult to prove that it is hold for quantum system. The first proof of this theorem is due to Lieb by using the Lieb's theorem. Here we use the conditions obtained in our previous work of matrix analysis method to give a new proof of this famous theorem. This new proof is very elementary, it only needs to carefully analyse the minimal value of a function. This proof also shows that the conditions obtained in our previous work are stronger than the strong subadditivity theorem.

Abstract:The Weyl law of the Laplacian on the flat torus 𝕋^n is concerning the number of eigenvalues ≤λ ^2 , which is equivalent to counting the lattice points inside the ball of radius λ in ℝ^n . The leading term in the Weyl law is c_nλ ^n , while the sharp error term O(λ ^n-2) is only known in dimension n≥ 5 . Determining the sharp error term in lower dimensions is a famous open problem (e.g. Gauss circle problem). In this paper, we show that under a type of singular perturbations one can obtain the pointwise Weyl law with a sharp error term in any dimensions. This result establishes the sharpness of the general theorems for the Schrödinger operators H_V=-Δ _g+V in the previous work (Huang and Zhang (Adv Math, arXiv:2103.05531 )) of the authors, and extends the 3-dimensional results of Frank and Sabin (Sharp Weyl laws with singular potentials. arXiv:2007.04284 ) to any dimensions by using a different approach. Our approach is a combination of Fourier analysis techniques on the flat torus, Li–Yau’s heat kernel estimates, Blair–Sire–Sogge’s eigenfunction estimates, and Duhamel’s principle for the wave equation.

Abstract:Bell's theorem is a fundamental result in quantum mechanics: it discriminates between quantum mechanics and all theories where probabilities in measurement results arise from the ignorance of pre-existing local properties. We give an extremely simple proof of Bell's inequality: a single figure suffices. This simplicity may be useful in the unending debate of what exactly the Bell inequality means, since the hypothesis at the basis of the proof become extremely transparent. It is also a useful didactic tool, as the Bell inequality can be explained in a single intuitive lecture.

Abstract:We present a new proof of the F. & M. Riesz theorem on analytic measures of the unit circle $\mathbb{T}$ that is based the following elementary inequality: If $f$ is analytic in the unit disc $\mathbb{D}$ and $0 \leq r \leq \varrho < 1$, then \[\|f_r-f_\varrho\|_1 \leq 2 \sqrt{\|f_\varrho\|_1^2-\|f_r\|_1^2},\] where $f_r(e^{i\theta})=f(r e^{i\theta})$ and where $\|\cdot\|_1$ denotes the norm of $L^1(\mathbb{T})$. The proof extends to the infinite-dimensional torus $\mathbb{T}^\infty$, where it clarifies the relationship between Hilbert's criterion for $H^1(\mathbb{T}^\infty)$ and the F. & M. Riesz theorem.

Abstract:We modify the standard proof of Paley's theorem about lacunary coefficients of functions in $H^1$ to work without analytic factorization. This leads to the first direct proof of the extension of Paley's theorem that we applied to the former Littlewood conjecture about $L^1$ norms of exponential sums.

Abstract:A martingale transform T, applied to an integrable locally supported function f, is pointwise dominated by a positive sparse operator applied to |f|, the choice of sparse operator being a function of T and f. As a corollary, one derives the sharp Ap bounds for martingale transforms, recently proved by Thiele-Treil-Volberg, as well as a number of new sharp weighted inequalities for martingale transforms. The (very easy) method of proof (a) only depends upon the weak-L1 norm of maximal truncations of martingale transforms, (b) applies in the vector valued setting, and (c) has an extension to the continuous case, giving a new elementary proof of the A2 bounds in that setting.

Abstract:We provide a new proof of the splitting theorems from Lorentzian geometry, in which simplicity is gained by sacrificing linearity of the d'Alembertian to recover ellipticity. We exploit a negative homogeneity (non-uniformly) elliptic $p$-d'Alembert operator for this purpose. This allows us to bring the Eschenburg, Galloway, and Newman Lorentzian splitting theorems into a framework closer to the Cheeger-Gromoll splitting theorem from Riemannian geometry.

A new proof of the Perron-Frobeniuos theorem, a variational approach

Abstract:We develop the Perron-Frobenius theory using a variational approach and extend it to a set of arbitrary matrices, including those that are neither irreducible nor essentially positive, and non-preserved cones. We introduce a new concept called a quasi-eigenvalue of a matrix, which is invariant under orthogonal transformations of variables, and has various useful properties, such as determining the largest value of the real parts of the eigenvalues of a matrix. We extend Weyl's inequality for the eigenvalues to the set of arbitrary matrices and prove the new stability result to the Perron root of irreducible nonnegative matrices under arbitrary perturbations. As well as this, we obtain new types of estimates for the ranges of the sets of eigenvalues and their real parts.

Abstract:In this note, we provide an elementary proof for the expression of $f(U)-f(V)$ in the form of a double operator integral for every Lipschitz function $f$ on the unit circle $\cir$ and for a pair of unitary operators $(U,V)$ with $U-V\in\mathcal{S}_{2}(\hilh)$ (the Hilbert-Schmidt class). As a consequence, we obtain the Schatten $2$-Lipschitz estimate $\|f(U)-f(V)\|_2\leq \|f\|_{\lip(\cir)}\|U-V\|_2$ for all Lipschitz functions $f:\cir\to\C$. Moreover, we develop an approach to the operator Lipschitz estimate for a pair of contractions with the assumption that one of them is a strict contraction, which significantly extends the class of functions from results known earlier. More specifically, for each $p\in(1,\infty)$ and for every pair of contractions $(T_0,T_1)$ with $\|T_0\|<1$, there exists a constant $d_{f, p,T_0}>0$ such that $\|f(T_1)-f(T_0)\|_p\leq d_{f,p, T_0}\|T_1-T_0\|_p$ for all Lipschitz functions on $\cir$. Using our Lipschitz estimates, we establish a modified Krein trace formula applicable to a specific category of pairs of contractions featuring Hilbert-Schmidt perturbations.
