Abstract:Experiment E949 at Brookhaven National Laboratory has observed three new events consistent with the decay ${K}^{+}\\ensuremath{\\rightarrow}{\\ensuremath{\\pi}}^{+}\\ensuremath{\\nu}\\overline{\\ensuremath{\\nu}}$ in the pion momentum region $140l{P}_{\\ensuremath{\\pi}}l199\\text{ }\\text{ }\\mathrm{MeV}/c$ in an exposure of $1.71\\ifmmode\\times\\else\\texttimes\\fi{}{10}^{12}$ stopped kaons with an estimated total background of $0.93\\ifmmode\\pm\\else\\textpm\\fi{}0.17(\\mathrm{stat}{)}_{\\ensuremath{-}0.24}^{+0.32}(\\mathrm{syst})$ events. This brings the total number of observed ${K}^{+}\\ensuremath{\\rightarrow}{\\ensuremath{\\pi}}^{+}\\ensuremath{\\nu}\\overline{\\ensuremath{\\nu}}$ events to seven. Combining this observation with previous results, assuming the pion spectrum predicted by the standard model, results in a branching ratio of $\\mathcal{B}({K}^{+}\\ensuremath{\\rightarrow}{\\ensuremath{\\pi}}^{+}\\ensuremath{\\nu}\\overline{\\ensuremath{\\nu}})=({1.73}_{\\ensuremath{-}1.05}^{+1.15})\\ifmmode\\times\\else\\texttimes\\fi{}{10}^{\\ensuremath{-}10}$. Abstract:The main aim of the NA62 experiment at CERN is to study the rare $K^+ \rightarrow \pi^+ \nu \bar{\nu}$ decay and measure its Branching Ratio (BR) with $10%$ precision. Due to its theoretical precision, this decay is an excellent probe to test the presence of New Physics (NP) at the highest scale complementary to LHC. At less than one month from the starting of the NA62 pilot run, the motivations, strategy and status of the experiment are described.

Abstract:RBC and UKQCD CollaborationsThe rare kaon decay K + → π + νν is highly suppressed in the standard model and thus provides an ideal place to search for new physics beyond the standard model.These decays are the principal objective of a new experiment, NA62 at CERN.Another new experiment to search for K L → π 0 νν is now underway at J-PARC.Given the goal of 10% precision by NA62, it is important to determine the long-distance contributions to the K + → π + νν amplitude with a controlled uncertainty.In this talk we will report the progress on the lattice QCD calculation of the longdistance contributions to the K + → π + νν decay amplitude, with an emphasis on the treatment of the short-distance divergence in the bilocal operator product.

Abstract:As flavor changing neutral current processes, rare kaon decays K → πν ν are highly suppressed in the standard model and thus provide ideal probes for the observation of new physics effects.Given the importance of rare kaon decays, the CERN NA62 experiment aims at an observation of O(100) events of K + → π + ν ν decay and a 10%-precision measurement of the branching ratio in two years.Another experiment, J-PARC KOTO, is dedicated to search for the CP-violating K L → π 0 ν ν decay.Recognizing that the standard model predictions will soon be confronted with new experimental results, it is important to determine the long-distance contributions to K + → π + ν ν with a controlled error.Here I will present an exploratory calculation of the longdistance contributions to the K + → π + ν ν decay amplitude from first principles using lattice QCD.

Abstract:The KOTO experiment at the J-PARC research facility in Tokai, Japan aims to observe and measure the rare decay of the neutral kaon, $K_L^0 \rightarrow \pi^0 \nu \bar{\nu}$. This decay has a Standard Model (SM) predicted branching ratio (BR) of $(3.00 \pm 0.30) \times 10^{-11}$. While this decay is extremely rare, it is one of the best decays in the quark sector to probe for new physics beyond the SM due to small theoretical uncertainties. The E391a experiment at KEK 12-GeV PS previously searched for $K_L^0 \rightarrow \pi^0 \nu \bar{\nu}$ events and set a limit of BR($K_L^0 \rightarrow \pi^0 \nu \bar{\nu}$) $< 2.6 \times 10^{-8}$ in 2010. In 2018, KOTO set a new experimental limit of BR($K_L^0 \rightarrow \pi^0 \nu \bar{\nu}$) $< 3.0 \times 10^{-9}$ from data collected in 2015, improving the best experimental upper limit by an order of magnitude. From 2016 to 2018, KOTO collected around 1.5 times more data than in 2015, and the analysis of this dataset is underway. This report covers the progress and current status of the 2016-2018 data analysis.

Abstract:The $K\to\pi\nu\bar{\nu}$ ultra-rare decays are precisely computed in the Standard Model (SM) and are ideal probes for physics beyond the SM. The NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS is designed to measure the charged channel with a precision of 10\%. The statistics collected in 2016 allows to reach the SM sensitivity. The KOTO experiment at J-PARC aims at reaching the SM sensitivity before performing a measurement with $\sim100$ signal events. The NA62 preliminary result for the charged channel is presented, together with the current experimental status of the neutral channel and their prospects for the coming years.

Abstract:The rare kaon decay K+ ->pi(+)nu(nu) over bar is an ideal process in which to search for signs of new physics and is the primary goal of the NA62 experiment at CERN. In this paper we report on a lattice QCD calculation of the long-distance contribution to the K+->pi(+)nu(nu) over bar decay amplitude at the near-physical pion mass m(pi)= 170 MeV. The calculations are, however, performed on a coarse lattice and hence with a lighter charm-quark mass [m(c)((MS) over bar) (3 GeV) = 750 MeV] than the physical one. The main aims of this study are twofold. Firstly we study the momentum dependence of the amplitude and conclude that it is very mild so that a computation at physical masses even at a single kinematic point would provide a good estimate of the long-distance contribution to the decay rate. Secondly we compute the contribution to the branching ratio from the two-pion intermediate state whose energy is below the kaon mass and find that it is less than 1% after its exponentially growing unphysical contribution has been removed and that the corresponding nonexponential finite-volume effects are negligibly small.

Abstract:The KTeV/E799 experiment at Fermilab has searched for the rare kaon decay KL → π 0 e + e -.This mode is expected to have a significant CP violating component.The measurement of its branching ratio could support the Standard Model or could indicate the existence of new physics.This Letter reports new results from the 1999-2000 data set.One event is observed with an expected background at 0.99 ± 0.35 events.We set a limit on the branching ratio of 3.5 ×10 -10 at the 90% confidence level.Combining with the previous result based on the dataset taken in 1997 yields the final KTeV result: BR(KL → π 0 e + e -) < 2.8 ×10 -10 at 90% C.L.

The data sample is dominated by the background process K+ -> mu(+) nu(mu)gamma. An upper limit on the decay rate Gamma(K+ -> mu(+) nu(nu) over bar nu) < 2.4 x 10(-6)Gamma(K+ -> all) at 90% confidence level was set assuming the standard model muon spectrum. The data are presented in such a way as to allow calculation of rates for any assumed mu(+) spectrum.

Abstract:The rare kaon decays K -> pi l(+)l(-) and K -> pi nu(nu) over bar are flavor changing neutral current (FCNC) processes and hence promising channels with which to probe the limits of the standard model and to look for signs of new physics. In this paper we demonstrate the feasibility of lattice calculations of K -> pi l(+)l(-) decay amplitudes for which long-distance contributions are very significant. We show that the dominant finite-volume corrections (those decreasing as powers of the volume) are negligibly small and that, in the four-flavor theory, no new ultraviolet divergences appear as the electromagnetic current J and the effective weak Hamiltonian H-W approach each other. In addition, we demonstrate that one can remove the unphysical terms which grow exponentially with the range of the integration over the time separation between J and H-W. We will now proceed to exploratory numerical studies with the aim of motivating further experimental measurements of these decays. Our work extends the earlier study by Isidori et al. [1] which focused largely on the renormalization of ultraviolet divergences. In a companion paper [2] we discuss the evaluation of the long-distance contributions to K -> pi nu(nu) over bar decays; these contributions are expected to be at the level of a few percent for K+ decays.

Abstract:A sample of $1.3 \times 10^5$ $K^+ \to \pi^0 e^+ \nu \gamma$ candidates with less than 1% background was collected by the NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS in 2017-2018. Branching fraction measurements are obtained at percent relative precision in three restricted kinematic regions, improving on existing results by a factor larger than two. An asymmetry, possibly related to T-violation, is investigated with no evidence observed within the achieved precision.

Rare K decays off and on the lattice

Abstract:The importance of rare $K$ decays especially in the context of a kaon unitarity triangle (KUT) is emphasized. The decay $K_L \to \pi^0 \nu \bar \nu$ is theoretically very clean but experimentally extremely challenging. The Standard Model prediction $\mathcal{B}\sim 3 \times 10^{-11}$ is still about two orders of magnitude away from the current experimental upper bound. One way to continue to make progress towards the construction of a KUT is by improving the accuracy in the calculation of $\varepsilon'$. Another way which is the primary focus here is via studies of $K^0 \to \pi^0 \mu^+ \mu^-$. LHCb, J-PARC, the proposed HIKE project, phenomenology, and in fact precision studies on the lattice can all play a very important role in this context.

Abstract:The KTeV/E799 experiment at Fermilab has searched for the rare kaon decay K(L)-->pi(0)e(+)e(-). This mode is expected to have a significant CP violating component. The measurement of its branching ratio could support the standard model or could indicate the existence of new physics. This Letter reports new results from the 1999-2000 data set. One event is observed with an expected background at 0.99+/-0.35 events. We set a limit on the branching ratio of 3.5x10(-10) at the 90% confidence level. Combining with the previous result based on the data set taken in 1997 yields the final KTeV result: BR(K(L)-->pi(0)e(+)e(-))<2.8x10(-10) at 90% C.L.

Abstract:We discuss the rescattering effects in decays B→π+K. The picture wetake is very simple: first, B decay into K*ρ, then K* and ρ go tokaon and pion by exchanging a pion. We find a up to ten percent CP violationasymmetry rate. We also discuss its correction to the constraint of angleγ proposed recently.
