Abstract:The harmonic index H(G) of a graph G is defined as the sum of weights 2 d(u)+d(v) of all edges uv of G, where d(u) denotes the degree of a vertex u in G. In this paper, we have determined the minimum and maximum harmonic indices of bicyclic graphs and characterized the corresponding graphs at which the extremal harmonic indices are attained.

Abstract:The harmonic index of a graph $G$, is defined as the sum of weights $\frac{2}{d(u)+d(v)}$ of all edges $uv$ of $G$, where $d(u)$ is the degree of the vertex $u$ in $G$. In this paper we find the minimum harmonic index of bicyclic graph of order $n$ and diameter $d$. We also characterized all bicyclic graphs reaching the minimum bound.

Abstract:Graph polynomials is one of the important research directions in mathematical chemistry. The coefficients of some graph polynomials, such as matching polynomial and permanental polynomial, are related to structural properties of graphs. The Hosoya index of a graph is the sum of the absolute value of all coefficients for the matching polynomial. And the permanental sum of a graph is the sum of the absolute value of all coefficients of the permanental polynomial. In this paper, we characterize the second to sixth minimal Hosoya indices of all bicyclic graphs. Furthermore, using the results, the second to sixth minimal permanental sums of all bicyclic graphs are also characterized.

Abstract:Let H ( G ) be the harmonic index of a graph G , which is defined as: In this note, we define a new graph parameter satisfying some properties and prove that , with equality if and only if G is a non-trivial complete graph, possibly plus some additional isolated vertices. In particular, can be the chromatic number , the choice number , the DP-chromatic number , the DP-paint number , the weak coloring number , the coloring number . Our result generalizes some corresponding known results.

Abstract:We determine the minimum sum--connectivity index of bicyclic graphs with $n$ vertices and matching number $m$, where $2\le m\le \lfloor\frac{n}{2}\rfloor$, the minimum and the second minimum, as well as the maximum and the second maximum sum--connectivity indices of bicyclic graphs with $n\ge 5$ vertices. The extremal graphs are characterized.

The revised edge Szeged index of $G$ is defined as $Sz^{\ast}_{e}(G)=\sum\limits_{e=uv\in E(G)}(m_{u}(e|G)+\frac{m_{0}(e|G)}{2})(m_{v}(e|G)+\frac{m_{0}(e|G)}{2})$, where $m_{u}(e|G)$ (resp., $m_{v}(e|G)$) is the number of edges whose distance to vertex $u$ (resp., $v$) is smaller than the distance to vertex $v$ (resp., $u$), and $m_{0}(e|G)$ is the number of edges equidistant from both ends of $e$, respectively. In this paper, the graphs with minimum revised edge Szeged index among all the unicyclic graphs with given diameter are characterized.

Abstract:Let $\Gamma=(K_n,H)$ be a signed complete graph whose negative edges induce a subgraph $H$. Let $A(\Gamma)$ be the adjacency matrix of the signed graph $\Gamma$. The largest eigenvalue of $A(\Gamma)$ is called the index of $\Gamma$. In this paper, the index of all the signed complete graphs whose negative edges induce a bicyclic graph $B$ is investigated. Specifically, the structure of the bicyclic graph $B$ such that $\Gamma=(K_n,B)$ has the maximum index is determined.

Abstract:Let G be an n-vertex unicyclic molecular graph and Z(G) be its Hosoya index, let Fn be the nth Fibonacci number. It is proved in this paper that if G has girth l then Z(G) ≥ Fl+1+(n−l)Fl+Fl-1, with the equality holding if and only if G is isomorphic to $$S_n^l$$, the unicyclic graph obtained by pasting the unique non-1-valent vertex of the complete bipartite graph K1,n-l to a vertex of an l-vertex cycle Cl. A direct consequence of this observation is that the minimum Hosoya index of n-vertex unicyclic graphs is 2n−2 and the unique extremal unicyclic graph is$$S_n^3$$. The second minimal Hosoya index and the corresponding extremal unicyclic graphs are also determined.

Abstract:A chemical index of a molecular graph G is the sum of weights w(u, v) over All pairs of vertices u and v in G. It is the Wiener index W(G) if w(u, v) is the distance of u and v, the Randic index R(G) if w(u, v) = [d(u)d(v)](-1/2) for u adjacent to v and 0 otherwise, and the harmonic index H(G) if w(u, v) = 2/[d(u)+d(v)] for u adjacent to v and 0 otherwise, where d(v) denotes the degree of v. In 1988, Fajtlowicz conjectured that W(G) <= ((n)(2))R(G) for all connected graphs G of order n. Strengthening another conjecture of Fajtlowicz as well as Caporossi and Hansen, Deng, Tang and Zhang conjectured that H(G) >= r(G) for all connected graphs G except paths of even order, where r(G) denotes the radius of G. In this paper, we prove these conjectures for dense triangle-free graphs, and also prove that W(T) <= ((n)(2))H(T) for all trees T of order n with equality if and only if T is a star. As a consequence, the Fajtlowicz conjecture holds for trees which was recently proven by Cygan, Pilipczuk and Skrekovski.

Abstract:Given a connected graph G , its Lanzhou index is Lz(G)=∑v∈V(G)d(v)2[n−1−d(v)] , where n is the order and d(v) is the degree of v∈G . As usual with topological indices and their meaning in Chemical Graph Theory, we are interested in determining the graphs maximizing or minimizing the considered index. We show that by applying the majorization method, we identify all unified extremal trees with maximum Lanzhou index among the trees of order n and diameter d≥8 . Using the same method, we identify the unified extremal unicyclic graphs with maximum Lanzhou index among the unicyclic graphs of order n and diameter d≥9 with n≥3d−8 .

Abstract:In this paper, we discuss the Hamiltonicity of graphs in terms of Wiener index, hyper-Wiener index and Harary index of their quasi-complement or complement. Firstly, we give some sufficient conditions for an balanced bipartite graph with given the minimum degree to be traceable and Hamiltonian, respectively. Secondly, we present some sufficient conditions for a nearly balanced bipartite graph with given the minimum degree to be traceable. Thirdly, we establish some conditions for a graph with given the minimum degree to be traceable and Hamiltonian, respectively. Finally, we provide some conditions for a $k$-connected graph to be Hamilton-connected and traceable for every vertex, respectively.

Abstract:In discrete mathematics, graph theory is the study of graphs, which are mathematical structures used to model pairwise relations between objects. Chemical graph theory is concerned with non-trivial applications of graph theory to the solution of molecular problems. Its main goal is to use numerical invariants to reduce the topological structure of a molecule to a single number that characterizes its properties. Topological indices are numerical invariants associated with the chemical constitution, for the purpose of the correlation of chemical structures with various physical properties, chemical reactivity, or biological activity. They have found important application in predicting the behavior of chemical substances. The Graovac–Ghorbani (ABCGG) index is a topological descriptor that has improved predictive potential compared to analogous descriptors. It is used to model both the boiling point and melting point of molecules and is applied in the pharmaceutical industry. In the recent years, the number of publications on its mathematical properties has increased. The aim of this work is to partially solve an open problem, namely to find the structure of unicyclic graphs that minimize the ABCGG index. We characterize unicyclic graphs with even girth that minimize the ABCGG index, while we also present partial results for odd girths. As an auxiliary result, we compare the ABCGG indices of paths and cycles with an odd number of vertices.

Abstract:For a graph $G$, the edge Mostar index of $G$ is the sum of $|m_u(e|G)-m_v(e|G)|$ over all edges $e=uv$ of $G$, where $m_u(e|G)$ denotes the number of edges of $G$ that have a smaller distance in $G$ to $u$ than to $v$, and analogously for $m_v(e|G)$. This paper mainly studies the problem of determining the graphs that maximize the edge Mostar index among tricyclic graphs. To be specific, we determine a sharp upper bound for the edge Mostar index on tricyclic graphs and identify the graphs that attain the bound.

Abstract:Let $G = (V, E)$ be a graph. The first Zagreb index and the forgotten topological index of a graph $G$ are defined respectively as $\sum_{u \in V} d^2(u)$ and $\sum_{u \in V} d^3(u)$, where $d(u)$ is the degree of vertex $u$ in $G$. If the minimum degree of $G$ is at least one, the inverse degree of $G$ is defined as $\sum_{u \in V} \frac{1}{d(u)}$. In this paper, we, for a graph with minimum degree at least one, present an upper bound for the first Zagreb index of the graph and lower bounds for the forgotten topological index and the inverse degree of the graph. We also present sufficient conditions involving the first Zagreb index, the forgotten topological index, or the inverse degree for some Hamiltonian properties of a graph.

Abstract:In 2010, Vukičević introduced an new graph invariant, the inverse sum indeg index of a graph, which has been studied due to its wide range of applications. Let Bnd be the class of bipartite graphs of order n and diameter d. In this paper, we mainly characterize the bipartite graphs in Bnd with the maximal inverse sum indeg index. Bipartite graphs with the largest, second-largest, and smallest inverse sum indeg indexes are also completely characterized.

Abstract:Given a connected (molecular) graph G , its Harary index H ( G ) is defined by the reciprocal sum of the distances between all unordered pairs of vertices of G . Lower bounds on the graph vulnerability parameters binding number and toughness have been often used to determine that the graph has a certain property. Recently, Yatauro [Discrete Appl. Math. 338 (2023) 56-68] gave a sharp upper bound of W ( G ) (Wiener index) to ensure that G has a determined lower bound (greater than or equal to 1) for the binding number or toughness. In this paper, we supply an upper bound on H ( G ) to ensure that G has a determined lower bound (between 0 and 1) for the binding number or toughness, and show that these bounds are best possible in some sense.
