In this paper, we have determined the minimum and maximum harmonic indices of bicyclic graphs and characterized the corresponding graphs at which the extremal harmonic indices are attained.

Abstract:Graph theory serves as a valuable tool across numerous scientific disciplines, offering the means to model and analyze intricate networks. In this study, we explore the application of distance‐based topological indices to a variety of graphs, including the total graph of paths, cycles, complete graphs, wheel graphs, helm graphs, and the Cartesian product of K 1 and K n . We investigate five distance‐based indices: the Wiener index, multiplicative Wiener index, hyper‐Wiener index, Harary index, and average distance. Through detailed analysis, we derive general formulas for these indices and test them on the specified graphs. Using MATLAB for numerical comparisons, we demonstrate the effectiveness of these indices in capturing the structural properties of different graph types. The findings from this study enhance our understanding of topological indices and their applications within the field of graph theory.

A sharp upper bound for the harmonious total chromatic number of graphs and multigraphs

Abstract:A proper total colouring of a graph $G$ is called harmonious if it has the further property that when replacing each unordered pair of incident vertices and edges with their colours, then no pair of colours appears twice. The smallest number of colours for it to exist is called the harmonious total chromatic number of $G$, denoted by $h_t(G)$. Here, we give a general upper bound for $h_t(G)$ in terms of the order $n$ of $G$. Our two main results are obvious consequences of the computation of the harmonious total chromatic number of the complete graph $K_n$ and of the complete multigraph $\lambda K_n$, where $\lambda$ is the number of edges joining each pair of vertices of $K_n$. In particular, Araujo-Pardo et al. have recently shown that $\frac{3}{2}n\leq h_t(K_n) \leq \frac{5}{3}n +\theta(1)$. In this paper, we prove that $h_t(K_{n})=\left\lceil \frac{3}{2}n \right\rceil$ except for $h_t(K_{1})=1$ and $h_t(K_{4})=7$; therefore, $h_t(G) \le \left\lceil \frac{3}{2}n \right\rceil$, for every graph $G$ on $n>4$ vertices. Finally, we extend such a result to the harmonious total chromatic number of the complete multigraph $\lambda K_n$ and as a consequence show that $h_t(\mathcal{G})\leq (\lambda-1)(2\left\lceil\frac{n}{2}\right\rceil-1)+\left\lceil\frac{3n}{2}\right\rceil$ for $n>4$, where $\mathcal{G}$ is a multigraph such that $\lambda$ is the maximum number of edges between any two vertices.

Total Domination Index in Graphs

Abstract:This paper introduces the concept of compliant vertices and compliant graphs, with a focus on the total domination degree (TDD) of a vertex in compliant graphs. The TDD is systematically calculated for various graph classes, including path graphs, cycles, book graphs, windmill graphs, wheel graphs, complete graphs, and complete bipartite graphs. The study explores inequalities involving TDD and defines total domination regular graphs. Furthermore, the TDD is analyzed in several graph operations such as union, join, composition, and corona, with a discussion on the property of the resulting graphs. The paper also examines the subdivision of complete graphs and degree splitting of path graphs. In the subsequent section, the total domination index (TDI) is introduced, and its values are calculated for different graph classes. The study concludes with bounds for the TDI across these graph classes.

Abstract:A topological descriptor is a numerical parameter that describes a chemical structure using the related molecular graph. Topological descriptors have significance in mathematical chemistry, particularly for studying QSPR and QSAR. In addition, if a topological descriptor has a reciprocal link with a molecular attribute, it is referred to as a topological index. The use of topological indices can help to examine the physicochemical features of chemical compounds because they encode certain attributes of a molecule. The Randić index is a molecular structure descriptor that has several applications in chemistry and medicine. In this paper, we introduce a new version of the Randić index to the inclusion of the intermolecular forces between bonds with atoms, referred to as an entire Harmonic index (EHI), and we present the entire Harmonic polynomial (EHP) of a graph. Specific formulas have been obtained for certain graph classes, and graph operations have been obtained. Bounds and some important results have been found. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the correlation coefficients for the new index lie between 0.909 and 1. In the context of enthalpy of formation and π-electronic energy, the acquired values are significantly higher than those observed for the Harmonic index and the Randić index.

Abstract:The algebraic polynomial plays a significant role in mathematical chemistry to compute the exact expressions of distance-based, degree-distance-based, and degree-based topological indices. The topological index is utilized as a significant tool in the study of the quantitative structure activity relationship (QSAR) and quantitative structures property relationship (QSPR) which correlate a molecular structure to its different properties and activities. Graphs containing finite commutative rings have wide applications in robotics, information and communication theory, elliptic curve cryptography, physics, and statistics. In this article, the topological indices of the total graph T Z n n ∈ Z + , the zero divisor graph Γ Z r n ( r is prime, n ∈ Z + ), and the zero divisor graph Γ Z r × Z s × Z t ( r , s , t are primes) are computed using some algebraic polynomials.

Abstract:Let H ( G ) be the harmonic index of a graph G , which is defined as: In this note, we define a new graph parameter satisfying some properties and prove that , with equality if and only if G is a non-trivial complete graph, possibly plus some additional isolated vertices. In particular, can be the chromatic number , the choice number , the DP-chromatic number , the DP-paint number , the weak coloring number , the coloring number . Our result generalizes some corresponding known results.

Abstract:Let R be a commutative ring and Z(R) be its set of all zero-divisors. The total graph of R, denoted by T Γ(R), is the undirected graph with vertex set R and two distinct vertices x and y are adjacent if and only if x + y ∈ Z(R). denotes the complement of T Γ(R). The study on total graphs has been initiated by D. F. Anderson and A. Badawi [2]. In this article, we characterize all commutative rings whose total graph (or its complement) is in some known class of graphs. Also we determine the structure whenever |Reg(R)| = 2. Further, we obtain certain necessary conditions for to be connected whenever is connected and prove that . It is also proved that if diam(T Γ(R)) = 2, then T Γ(R) is Hamiltonian, which is a generalization of a characterization proved by S. Akbari et al. [1].

Abstract:Graph theory is a topic that is still an important subject to discuss. This is because until now graph theory has many practical applications in various disciplines, for example in biology, computer science, economics, informatics engineering, linguistics, mathematics, health, and social sciences. This study discusses the Gutman index of nilradical graphs in the commutative ring with unity.A nilradical graph whose vertices are non-zero nilpotent elements, when the domain is a commutative ring with units, it forms a complete graph only if the commutative ring with units we use is limited to a positive integer modulo n (Z_n). Where n is the square of the prime number p which is less than equal to 3. It is known that the general pattern of harmonic indices and Gutman indices of nilradical graphs in the commutative ring with unity are H(N(Z_(n=p^2 ) ))=((p-2)^2+(p -2))/2(p-2) and Gut(N(Z_(n=p^2 ) ))=(1/2 ((p-2)^2+(p-2))) (p- 2)^2 respectively. In its application, this general form can be used as a numerical parameter of a graph in chemical graph theory, molecular topology, and mathematical chemistry.
A New Characterisation of Total Graphs

Abstract:Graphs constructed to translate some graph problem into another graph problem are usually called auxiliary graphs. Specifically total graphs of simple graphs are used to translate the total colouring problem of the original graph into a vertex colouring problem of the transformed graph. In this paper, we obtain a new characterisation of total graphs of simple graphs. We also design algorithms to compute the inverse total graphs when the input graph is a total graph. These results improve over the work of Behzad, by using novel observations on the properties of the local structure in the neighbourhood of each vertex. The earlier algorithm was based on bfs and distances. Our theorems result in partitioning the vertex set of the total graph into the original graph and the line graph efficiently. We obtain constructive results for special classes, most notably for total graph of complete graphs.

Abstract:Introduced in 1947, the Wiener index W(T) = Sigma({u,v}subset of V(T)) d(u, v) is one of the most thoroughly studied chemical indices. The extremal structures ( in particular, trees with various constraints) that maximize or minimize the Wiener index have been extensively investigated. The Harary index H(T) = Sigma({u,v}subset of V(T)) 1/d(u, v), introduced in 1993, can be considered as the "reciprocal analogue" of the Wiener index. From recent studies, it is known that the extremal structures of the Harary index and the Wiener index coincide in many instances, i.e., the graphs that maximize the Wiener index minimize the Harary index and vice versa. In this note we provide some general statements regarding functions of distances of a tree, from which some of the extremal structures with respect to the Harary index (and a generalized version of it) are characterized. Among the results a recent conjecture of Ilic, Yu and Feng is proven. A case when the extremal structures of these two indices differ is also provided. Finally, we derive some previously known extremal results as immediate corollaries.

Abstract:In this paper, we discuss the Hamiltonicity of graphs in terms of Wiener index, hyper-Wiener index and Harary index of their quasi-complement or complement. Firstly, we give some sufficient conditions for an balanced bipartite graph with given the minimum degree to be traceable and Hamiltonian, respectively. Secondly, we present some sufficient conditions for a nearly balanced bipartite graph with given the minimum degree to be traceable. Thirdly, we establish some conditions for a graph with given the minimum degree to be traceable and Hamiltonian, respectively. Finally, we provide some conditions for a $k$-connected graph to be Hamilton-connected and traceable for every vertex, respectively.

Abstract:Background: A topological index is a real number associated with a graph that provides information about its physical and chemical properties and their correlations. Topological indices are being used successfully in Chemistry, Computer Science, and many other fields. Methods: In this article, we apply the well-known Cartesian product on F-sums of connected and finite graphs. We formulate sharp limits for some famous degree-dependent indices. Results: Zagreb indices for the graph operations T(G), Q(G), S(G), R(G), and their F-sums have been computed. By using orders and sizes of component graphs, we derive bounds for Zagreb indices, F-index, and Narumi-Katayana index. Conclusion: The formulation of expressions for the complicated products on F-sums, in terms of simple parameters like maximum and minimum degrees of basic graphs, reduces the computational complexities.

In this article, we study the total graph of R, denoted by τ(R), determine some of its basic graph-theoretical properties, determine when it is Eulerian, and find some conditions under which this graph is isomorphic to Cay(R, Z(R) \ {0}). We shall also compute the domination number of τ(R).

Abstract:The technique of counting cliques in networks is a natural problem. In this paper, we develop certain results on counting of triangles for the total graph of the Mycielski graph or central graph of star as well as completegraph families. Moreover, we discuss the upper bounds for the number of triangles in the Mycielski and other well known transformations of graphs. Finally, it is shown that the achromatic number and edge-covering number of the transformations mentioned above are equated.

Abstract:Let $G = (V, E)$ be a graph. The first Zagreb index and the forgotten topological index of a graph $G$ are defined respectively as $\sum_{u \in V} d^2(u)$ and $\sum_{u \in V} d^3(u)$, where $d(u)$ is the degree of vertex $u$ in $G$. If the minimum degree of $G$ is at least one, the inverse degree of $G$ is defined as $\sum_{u \in V} \frac{1}{d(u)}$. In this paper, we, for a graph with minimum degree at least one, present an upper bound for the first Zagreb index of the graph and lower bounds for the forgotten topological index and the inverse degree of the graph. We also present sufficient conditions involving the first Zagreb index, the forgotten topological index, or the inverse degree for some Hamiltonian properties of a graph.
