Abstract:A current algebra based effective chiral theory of pseudoscalar, vector, axial-vector mesons is reviewed. A new mechanism generating the masses and guage fixing terms of gauge boson is revealed from this effective theory. A EW theory without Higgs is proposed. The masses and gauge fixing terms of W and Z are dynamically generated. Three heavy scalar fields are dynamically generated too. They are ghosts.

Abstract:In this paper, we present the full Lagrangian of mesons (pseudoscalars, vectors and axial-vectors) to O(p 4) by using the explicit global chiral symmetry and hidden local symmetry in the chiral limit. In this approach, we see that there are many other terms besides the usual eleven terms given in the literature from a hidden local symmetry approach. In particular, there are some terms in our full results which are important for understanding the vector meson dominance and $\pi$-$\pi$ scattering and providing consistent predictions on the decay rates of $a_1\rightarrow\gamma\pi$ and $a_1\rightarrow\rho\pi$ as well as for constructing a consistent effective chiral Lagrangian with chiral perturbation theory. It is likely that the structures of the effective chiral Lagrangian for O(p 4) given in the literature by using hidden local symmetry are incomplete and consequently the resulting couplings are not reliable. We examine the issue that the more general effective chiral Lagrangian given in the present paper can provide more consistent predictions for the low energy phenomenology of the $\rho$-a 1 system and result in more consistent descriptions on the low energy behavior of light flavor mesons.

Abstract:A previous formal derivation of the effective chiral Lagrangian for low-lying pseudoscalar mesons from first-principles QCD without approximations [Q. Wang, Y.-P. Kuang, X.-L. Wang, and M. Xiao, Phys. Rev. D 61, 054011 (2000)] is generalized to further include scalar, vector, and axial-vector mesons. In the large N-c limit and with an Abelian approximation, we show that the properties of the newly added mesons in our formalism are determined by the corresponding underlying fundamental homogeneous Bethe-Salpeter equation in the ladder approximation, which yields the equations of motion for the scalar, vector, and axialvector meson fields at the level of an effective chiral Lagrangian. The masses appearing in the equations of motion of the meson fields are those determined by the corresponding Bethe-Salpeter equation.

Abstract:We derive the chiral effective Lagrangian for heavy-light mesons in the heavy quark limit from QCD under proper approximations. The low energy constants in the effective Lagrangian are expressed in terms of the light quark self-energy. With typical forms of the running coupling constant of QCD and the quark self-energy obtained from Dyson-Schwinger equations as well as lattice QCD, we estimate the low energy constants in the model and the strong decay widths. A comparison with data and some discussions of the numerical results are presented.

Abstract:We explore the chiral aspects of extrapolation of observables calculated within lattice QCD, using the nucleon magnetic moments as an example. Our analysis shows that the biggest effects of chiral dynamics occur for quark masses corresponding to a pion mass below 600 MeV. In this limited range chiral perturbation theory is not rapidly convergent, but we can develop some understanding of the behaviour through chiral quark models. This model dependent analysis leads us to a simple Pad\'e approximant which builds in both the limits $m_\pi \to 0$ and $m_\pi \to \infty$ correctly and permits a consistent, model independent extrapolation to the physical pion mass which should be extremely reliable.

Abstract:We formally derive the chiral Lagrangian for low lying pseudoscalar mesons from the first principles of QCD considering the contributions from the normal part of the theory without taking an approximation. The derivation is based on the standard generating functional of QCD in the path integral formalism. The gluon-field integration is formally carried out by expressing the result in terms of the physical Green's functions of the gluon. To integrate over the quark held, we introduce a bilocal auxiliary field Phi(x,y) representing the mesons. We then develop a consistent way of extracting the local pseudoscalar degree of freedom U(x) in Phi(x,y) and integrating out the rest degrees of freedom such that the complete pseudoscalar degree of freedom resides in U(x). With certain techniques, we work out the explicit U(x) dependence of the effective action up to the p(4) terms in the momentum expansion, which leads to the desired chiral Lagrangian in which all the coefficients contributed from the normal part of the theory are expressed in terms of certain quark Green's functions in QCD. Together with the exsisting QCD formulas for the anomaly contributions, the present results lead to the complete effective chiral Lagrangian for pseudoscalar mesons. The final result can be regarded as the fundamental QCD definition of the coefficients in the chiral Lagrangian. The relation between the present QCD definition of the p(2)-order coefficient F-0(2) and the well-known appoximate result given by Pagels and Stoker is discussed.

Abstract:The low-energy chiral effective field theory of vector mesons and Goldstone bosons in external gravitational field is considered. The energy-momentum tensor is obtained and the gravitational form factors of the $\rho$-meson are calculated up to next-to-leading order in the chiral expansion. This amounts to considering tree-level and one-loop order diagrams. The chiral expansion of the form factors at zero momentum transfer as well as of the slope parameters is worked out. Also, the long-range behaviour of the energy and internal force distributions is obtained and analysed.

Low-energy elastic (anti)neutrino-nucleon scattering in covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory

Abstract:The low-energy antineutrino- and neutrino-nucleon neutral current elastic scattering is studied within the framework of the relativistic SU(2) baryon chiral perturbation theory up to the order of $\mathcal{O}(p^3)$. We have derived the model-independent hadronic amplitudes and extracted the form factors from them. It is found that differential cross sections ${{\rm d} \sigma}/{{\rm d} Q^2}$ for the processes of (anti)neutrino-proton scattering are in good agreement with the existing MiniBooNE data in the $Q^2$ region $[0.13,0.20]$ GeV$^2$, where nuclear effects are expected to be negligible. For $Q^2\leq 0.13$ GeV$^2$, large deviation is observed, which is mainly owing to the sizeable Pauli blocking effect. Comparisons with the simulation data produced by the NuWro and GIENE Mento Carlo events generators are also discussed. The chiral results obtained in this work can be utilized as inputs in various nuclear models to achieve the goal of precise determination of the strangeness axial vector form factor, in particular when the low-energy MicroBooNE data are available in the near future.

Octet baryon and heavy meson interactions in chiral effective field theory

Abstract:We calculate the effective potentials of the octet baryon and heavy meson systems using the chiral effective field theory up to the next-to-leading order. We consider the contact terms, one-pseudoscalar-meson and two-pseudoscalar-meson exchange contributions, facilitating a comprehensive analysis of the short-, mid-, and long-range interactions in these systems. The low energy constants (LECs) are correlated with those of the $\bar{N}N$ interaction using a quark-level Lagrangian approach. We also incorporate the decuplet baryon contributions in the loop diagrams. Our research provides new insights into several near-threshold charmed baryons [e.g., $\Lambda_{c}(2940)$, $\Xi_{c}(3055)$, and $\Omega_{c}(3188)$, etc.] around $3$ GeV from the hadronic molecular perspective. We also identify several molecular states, designated as $\Xi_{c}$, within the mass range of $3100-3500$ MeV. Further measurements of their resonance parameters and decay patterns in experiments will help to discriminate the conventional baryon and hadronic molecule explanations for these near-threshold states.

Abstract:In this paper, low-energy scattering of the (D*(D) over bar*)(+/-) meson system is studied within Luscher's finite-size formalism using N-f = 2 twisted-mass gauge field configurations. With three different pion mass values, the s-wave threshold scattering parameters-namely the scattering length a(0) and the effective range r(0)-are extracted in the J(PC) = 1(+-) channel. Our results indicate that, in this particular channel, the interaction between the two vector charmed mesons is weakly repulsive in nature and hence it does not support the possibility of a shallow bound state for the two mesons, at least for the pion mass values being studied. However, these results might suffer from undetermined systematic errors due to low-lying states ignored in this exploratory study. Still, it provides some useful information on the nature of the newly discovered resonance-like structure Z(c)(4025) observed in various experiments.

Abstract:Within the framework of Polyakov-Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model and by means of Multiple Reflection Expansion, we study the finite volume effects on chiral phase transition, especially its influence on the location of the possible critical end point (CEP) and masses of mesons. Our result shows that as the radius of the sphere decreases, the location of CEP shifts toward smaller temperature while remains almost a constant in chemical potential. As for the finite volume effects on the masses of mesons, the masses of π and K increase with decreasing volume, while for σ, η and η′ the situation is the opposite. Especially, the masses of chiral parters π and σ get closer as the volume decreases, indicating that the dynamical chiral symmetry breaking effect reduces with decreasing volume.
Calculation of the chiral Lagrangian coefficients with light vector mesons

Abstract:We calculate the coefficients in the effective chiral Lagrangian from QCD, which includes pseudo-scalar mesons and vector mesons (with hidden symmetry), up to O(p4). This encompasses both the normal and anomalous parts. Our work builds on a previous study that derived the chiral Lagrangian from first principles of QCD, where the low-energy coefficients are defined in terms of specific Green's functions in QCD. This research extends our earlier efforts that focused on calculating the low-energy coefficients of the chiral Lagrangian for pure pseudo-scalar mesons. This marks the first calculation of chiral Lagrangian coefficients for vector mesons from QCD, particularly for the important parameters a and g, which are typically considered inputs in existing literature. Notably, the regularization method used previously is inadequate for this broader scope. We find that cut-off regularization yields reasonable results for both pseudo-scalar mesons and vector mesons, though it has certain limitations. Finally, we demonstrate that our method aligns with the Weinberg sum rules.

Abstract:We have calculated the potentials of the heavy (charmed or bottomed) pseudoscalar mesons up to $O(\epsilon^2)$ with the heavy meson chiral perturbation theory. We take into account the contributions from the football, triangle, box, and crossed diagrams with the 2$\phi$ exchange and one-loop corrections to the contact terms. We notice that the total 2$\phi$-exchange potential alone is attractive in the small momentum region in the channel ${\bar B \bar B}^{I=1}$, ${\bar B_s \bar B_s}^{I=0}$, or ${\bar B \bar B_s}^{I=1/2}$, while repulsive in the channel ${\bar B \bar B}^{I=0}$. Hopefully the analytical chiral structures of the potentials may be useful in the extrapolation of the heavy meson interaction from lattice QCD simulation.

Abstract:The homogeneous Bethe-Salpeter equation (BSE) of a (1/2)$^+$ bound system, that has both fermionic and bosonic degrees of freedom, that we call a {\em mock nucleon}, is studied in Minkowski space, in order to analyse the chiral limit in covariant gauges. After adopting an interaction kernel built with a one-particle exchange, the $\chi$-BSE is numerically solved by means of the Nakanishi integral representation and light-front projection. Noteworthy, the chiral limit induces a scale-invariance of the model and consequently generates a wealth of striking features: i) it reduces the number of non trivial Nakanishi weight functions to only one; ii) the form of the surviving weight function has a factorized dependence on the two relevant variables, compact and non-compact one; iii) the coupling constant becomes an explicit function of the real exponent governing the power-law fall-off of the non trivial Nakanishi weight function. The thorough investigation at large transverse-momentum of light-front Bethe-Salpeter amplitudes, obtained with massive constituents, provides a confirmation of the expected universal power-law fall-off, with exponents predicted by our non-perturbative framework. Finally, one can shed light on the exponents that govern the approach to the upper extremum of the longitudinal-momentum fraction distribution function of the {\em mock nucleon}, when the coupling constant varies.

Chiral Properties of Pseudoscalar Mesons on A Quenched 20(4) Lattice with Overlap Fermions

Abstract:The chiral properties of the pseudoscalar mesons are studied numerically on a quenched 20(4) lattice with the overlap fermion. We elucidate the role of the zero modes in the meson propagators, particularly that of the pseudoscalar meson. The non-perturbative renormalization constant Z(A) is determined from the axial Ward identity and is found to be almost independent of the quark mass for the range of quark masses we study; this implies that the O(a(2)) error is small. The pion decay constant f(pi) is calculated from which we determine the lattice spacing to be 0.148 fm. We look for the quenched chiral log in the pseudoscalar decay constants and the pseudoscalar masses and we find clear evidence for its presence. The chiral log parameter delta is determined to be in the range 0.15-0.4, which is consistent with that predicted from quenched chiral perturbation theory.
