Abstract:We study forward and backward pi-pi scattering within a QCD model based on the Dyson--Schwinger, Bethe--Salpeter equations truncated to the rainbow-ladder level. Our microscopic relativistic quark formulation preserves chiral symmetry and reproduces the observed scattering lengths for total isospin zero, one and two. At higher energies both scalar and vector meson resonances naturally occur in the scattering amplitudes. We also report a comparative study with phenomenological meson-exchange models and find such approaches are reasonable especially near pi-pi resonances.

A new symmetry breaking-axial-vector symmetry breaking is found and applied to EW theory. The masses of W and Z are dynamically generated and in agreement with data.

Abstract:A new unitarization approach incorporated with chiral symmetry is established and applied to study the π K elastic scatterings. We demonstrate that the κ resonance exists, if the scattering length parameter in the I=1/2, J=0 channel does not deviate much from its value predicted by chiral perturbation theory. The mass and width of the κ resonance is found to be M_κ=594± 79MeV, Γ_κ=724± 332MeV, obtained by fitting the LASS data up to 1430MeV. Better determination to the pole parameters is possible if the chiral predictions on scattering lengths are taken into account.

Abstract:Using the tadpole improved Wilson quark action on small, coarse, and anisotropic lattices, meson-meson scattering lengths are calculated within quenched approximation. The study covers pion-pion scattering in the I = 2 channel and kaon-pion scattering in the I = 3/2 channel. The results are extrapolated towards the chiral limit. Finite volume and finite lattice spacing errors are also analyzed and results in the infinite volume and continuum limit are obtained. Our results are compared with the results obtained using Roy equations, chiral perturbation theory, dispersion relations, and the experimental data. We also compare our results with other lattice results on the scattering lengths.

Abstract:Positivity constraints are derived on pion–nucleon scattering amplitudes and their even-order derivatives inside the Mandelstam triangle with the help of dispersion relations. Fairly interesting constraints are obtained on some of the low-energy constants, by a combination of the chiral perturbation theory for heavy baryons and existing fitting results from available pion–nucleon phase shifts at intermediate energies.

Abstract:We apply the chiral color dielectric model to low- and medium-energy scattering within the coupled πN and πΔ system. Dynamic baryon states in which quarks are confined by the scalar color-dielectric field are constructed in Fock space. Spurious motion of the center of mass is eliminated by constructing momentum eigenstates via a Peierls-Yoccoz projection. The relativistic Lippmann-Schwinger equation is solved for the complex energies of the T matrix poles, and the pole positions of the nucleon and delta are used to fix the few parameters of the model. The S- and P-wave phase shifts, the bare N and Δ masses, the renormalized πNN and πNΔ coupling constants, and the πNN and πNΔ vertex functions are predicted. nucleon and delta are used to fix the few parameters of the model. Amplitude determination for $M M \to M M$, $M = π, K$ and cross-sections for $γγ\to π^+ π^-, π^0 π^0, π^0 η$ in a chiral model

Abstract:Dai and Pennington have performed a comprehensive analysis of essentially all pion and kaon pair production data from two-photon collisions below 1.5 GeV, including all high statistics results from Belle, as well as the older data from Mark II at SLAC, CELLO at DESY, and Crystal Ball at SLAC. Imposing the basic constraints required by analyticity, unitarity, and crossing symmetry and making use of Low's low-energy theorem for QED, they were able to extract the final-state, strong-interaction scattering amplitudes for the intermediate $\pi \pi \to \pi \pi$ and $\pi \pi \to K \overline{K}$ reactions in a model-independent fashion. In addition, they provided good fits to the respective $\gamma \gamma \to \pi \pi$ cross-sections that are known in the low-energy sector in the restricted angular range, $| \cos \theta | < 0.6 - 0.8$. Using the parameters obtained in this fashion, these authors constructed the $\gamma \gamma \to \pi \pi$ cross-sections integrated over the full angular range. In the present work, we use a version of chiral perturbation theory developed by Oller and Oset to evaluate the final-state, strong-interaction amplitudes theoretically, and we compare our low-energy QCD-based results with the amplitudes extracted by Dai and Pennington. We also calculate the $\gamma \gamma \to \pi \pi$ cross-sections (integrated over the full angular range) and compare them with those obtained by Dai and Pennington. These calculations give a more detailed insight into the fit of chiral perturbation theory, not just to the measured $\gamma \gamma \to \pi \pi$ cross-sections, as is usually presented, but rather to a higher level of detail through the available analysis of the experimental data for the underlying final-state, strong-interaction, meson-meson scattering amplitudes $\pi \pi \to \pi \pi$ and $\pi \pi \to K \overline{K}$ themselves. The fits appear to be sensible.

Abstract:Based on the spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry, chiral perturbation theory (ChPT) is believed to approximate confinement scale QCD. Dedicated and increasingly accurate experiments and improving lattice calculations are confirming this belief, and we are entering a new era in which we can test confinement scale QCD in some well chosen reactions. This is demonstrated with an overview of low energy experimental tests of ChPT predictions of $\pi\pi$ scattering, pion properties, $\pi$N scattering and electromagnetic pion production. These predictions have been shown to be consistent with QCD in the meson sector by increasingly accurate lattice calculations. At present there is good agreement between experiment and ChPT calculations, including the $\pi\pi$ and $\pi$N s wave scattering lengths and the $\pi^{0}$ lifetime. Recent, accurate pionic atom data are in agreement with chiral calculations once isospin breaking effects due to the mass difference of the up and down quarks are taken into account, as was required to extract the $\pi\pi$ scattering lengths. In addition to tests of the theory, comparisons between $\pi\pi$ and $\pi$N interactions based on general chiral principles are discussed. Lattice calculations are now providing results for the fundamental, long and inconclusively studied, $\pi$N $\sigma$ term and the contribution of the strange quark to the mass of the proton. Increasingly accurate experiments in electromagnetic pion production experiments from the proton which test ChPT calculations (and their energy region of validity) are presented. These experiments are also beginning to measure the final state $\pi$N interaction. This paper is based on the concluding remarks made at the Chiral Dynamics Workshop CD12 held at Jefferson Lab in Aug. 2012.

Abstract:ππ scattering length in the I=2 channel is calculated within quenched approximation using improved gauge and improved Wilson fermion actions on anisotropic lattices. The results are extrapolated towards the chiral, infinite volume and continuum limit. This result improves our previous result on the scattering length. In the chiral, infinite volume and continuum limit, we obtain a^(2)_0m_π=-0.0467(45), which is consistent with the result from Chiral Perturbation Theory, the experiment and results from other lattice calculations.

Abstract:A model field theory, in which the interaction between quarks is mediated by dressed vector boson exchange, is used to analyze the pionic sector of QCD. It is shown that this model, which incorporates dynamical chiral symmetry breaking, asymptotic freedom, and quark confinement, allows one to calculate f(pi), m(pi), r(pi), and the partial wave amplitudes in pi-pi scattering and obtain good agreement with the experimental data, with the latter being well described up to energies E congruent-to 550 MeV.

Abstract:We calculate the complete T matrices of the elastic light pseudoscalar meson and heavy meson scattering to the third order in heavy meson chiral perturbation theory. We determine the low-energy constants by fitting the phase shifts and scattering lengths from lattice QCD simulations simultaneously and predict the phase shifts at the physical meson masses. The phase shifts in the Dπ (I=1/2) , DK(I=0) , DK̅(I=0) , D_sK̅ , Dη and D_sη S waves are so strong that bound states or resonances may be generated dynamically in all these channels. The DK(I=0) channel corresponds to the well-known exotic state D_s0^*(2317) . The DK(I=0) channel corresponds to the well-known exotic state D_s0^*(2317) . The coupled-channel Dπ , Dη and D_sK̅ scattering corresponds to D_0^*(2400) . The coupled-channel Dπ , Dη and D_sK̅ scattering corresponds to D_0^*(2400) . We also predict the scattering lengths and scattering volumes and observe good convergence in the scattering volumes. Our calculations provide a possibility to accurately investigate the exotic state in the light pseudoscalar meson and heavy meson interactions.

Abstract:We calculate decuplet contributions to the s-wave pseudoscalar meson octet–baryon scattering lengths to the third order in heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory (HBχPT). Using experimental pion–nucleon and kaon–nucleon scattering lengths as inputs, we determine low-energy constants and predict other meson–baryon scattering lengths. Numerically we consider three cases: (1) the case with only baryon octet contributions; (2) with decuplet contributions and (3) in the large Nc limit. Hopefully, the analytical expressions and the predictions are helpful to future investigations of the meson–baryon scattering lengths.
Study of electron-positron annihilation into $K\bar{K}π$ within resonance chiral theory

Abstract:In this paper, a coherent study of the $e^+e^-$ annihilation into $K^+K^-\pi^0$, $K^0_SK^0_L\pi^0$ and $K^0_SK^\pm\pi^\mp$ is carried out within the framework of resonance chiral theory. The amplitudes are fixed by fitting to the experimental cross-section and invariant mass spectrum. With these amplitudes, one can calculate the hadronic vacuum polarization form factors of these processes. The leading order contributions of $\sigma(e^+e^- \to K\bar{K}\pi)$ to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, $(g-2)_\mu$, is obtained as $a_\mu^{\rm HVP,LO}(e^+e^- \to K\bar{K}\pi)=(3.079\pm0.088)\times10^{-10}$ up to $E_{\rm cm}=2.3$ GeV.

Abstract:We have systematically calculated the pseudoscalar Goldstone boson and charmed baryon scattering lengths to the third order with heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. The scattering lengths can reveal the interaction of KΛc, KΣc, πΩc, etc. For each channel, we take into account of the interaction between the external particle and every possible charmed baryon in the triplet, sextet, and excited sextet. We use dimensional regularization and modified minimal subtraction to get rid of the divergences in the loop-diagram corrections. We notice that the convergence of chiral expansion for most of the channels becomes better after we let the low energy constants absorb the analytic contributions of the loop-diagram corrections and keep the non-analytic terms only.

Abstract:We calculate the threshold T matrices of the light pseudoscalar meson and heavy meson scattering to fourth order in heavy meson chiral perturbation theory. We determine the low-energy constants by fitting to the lattice QCD data points through both the perturbative and iterated methods and obtain the physical scattering lengths in both formalisms. The values of the scattering lengths tend to be convergent at fourth order for most of the channels in the perturbative method. The value of the scattering length for the channel DK(I = 0), which involves the bound state D-s0*(2317), is obtained correctly in the iterated method. Based on the heavy diquark-antiquark symmetry, we also estimate the meson and doubly charmed (bottom) baryon scattering lengths, and find that the bound states can be generated with high probability in the channels (K) over bar Xi(cc) (I = 0) and (K) over bar Xi(bb)(I = 0). We strongly urge the LHCb Collaboration to look for the very narrow (K) over bar Xi(cc) state with IJ(P) = 01-/2 through either the electromagnetic decay or the iso-spin violating strong decay Omega(cc)pi.

Abstract:A lattice QCD computation of the coupled channel πΣ–K ̄N scattering amplitudes in the Λ(1405) region is detailed. Results are obtained using a single ensemble of gauge field configurations with Nf=2+1 dynamical quark flavors and mπ≈200 MeV and mK≈487 MeV . Hermitian correlation matrices using both single baryon and meson-baryon interpolating operators for a variety of different total momenta and irreducible representations are used. Several parametrizations of the two-channel scattering K -matrix are utilized to obtain the scattering amplitudes from the finite-volume spectrum.
