Abstract:In this report I will give a summary of some of the main topics covered in Session A3, mathematical studies of the field equations, at GRG18, Sydney. Unfortunately, due to length constraints, some of the topics covered at the session will be very briefly mentioned or left out altogether. The summary is mainly based on extended abstracts submitted by the speakers and some of those who presented posters at the session. I would like to thank all participants for their contributions and help with this summary.

Abstract:Based on the needs of engineering pra ctice and the present research on excavation,a 3-D FEM program for excavation engineering has been dev eloped,in which the spatial effect o f the pit during excavation,the soil-retaining structure interaction and the proce ss of construction are taken into account.And the study of deformation of retaining structure during excavating ,activ e earth pressure,brace force,distr ibution type of ground settlement an d basal heave of excavation are analyzed by the pro gram.Lastly,an excavation case in Hangzhou has been studied,and the necessity of 3-D analysis and the reasonableness of calculating model have been verified.

Abstract:The Workshop \\emph{Komplexe algebraische Geometrie}, organized by Fabrizio Catanese (Bayreuth), Yujiro Kawamata (Tokyo), Gang Tian (Princeton), and Eckart Vieh\\-weg (Essen), drew together 50 participants. There were several young PhD students and other PostDocs in their 20's and early 30's, together with established leaders of the fields related to the thematic title of the workshop. There were 23 talks, each lasting 55 minutes or one hour, and each followed by a lively 10 minutes discussion. As usual at an Oberwolfach Meeting, the mathematical discussions continued outside the lecture room throughout the day and the night. The Conference fully fulfilled its purported aim, of setting in contact mathematicians with different specializations and non uniform background, of presenting new fashionable topics alongside with new insights on long standing classical open problems, and also cross-fertilizations with other research topics as arithmetic and physics. For the latter, cf. the talk by Bernd Siebert on the new approach to Mirror Symmetry through logarithmic geometry and toric affine Calabi Yau varieties and the one by van Straten on quantization of completely integrable Hamiltonian Systems. For the former, cf. the talks by Winkelmann on integral sets and by McQuillan on the Bloch principle. A central role was occupied by the new results around the Hodge conjecture presented by Voisin, and the new results by Hacon, M\\textsuperscript{c}Kernan et al which give an essential step towards the final solution of the Minimal Model Program, and were presented here by M\\textsuperscript{c}Kernan with a proposed approach to the Sarkisov program. There were many expositions dealing with several classical problems and classical and modern theories. It would take too long to dwell on each of the outstanding contributions presented at the Conference. For some topics there were several interrelated talks, for instance we could mention the following classical themes: \\begin{enumerate} \\item Abelian Varieties, Jacobian and Prym Varieties and their Moduli spaces (van der Geer, Farkas, Lange, Hulek) \\item Hodge Theory and Variation of Hodge structures (Voisin, M\\"oller, Barja) \\item Fibred varieties (Oguiso, Moeller) \\item Algebraic Surfaces (Mukai, Pardini) \\item Fundamental groups and algebraic fundamental groups (Esnault, Bauer, Pardini). \\end{enumerate} There were also expositions on many other beautiful topics: \\begin{enumerate} \\item Moduli spaces of sheaves on higher dimensional varieties (Lehn) \\item Deformations of special complex maifolds (Rollenske) \\item Varieties of power sums (Takagi) \\item Ball quotients (M\\"uller-Stach) \\item Stacks and Azumaya algebras (Schr\\"oer) \\item nefness and vector bundles (Peternell) \\end{enumerate} The variety of striking results and the very interesting and challenging proposals made the participation in the workshop rather strenuous but certainly highly rewarding. We hope that the quality of the expositions in these abstracts will make them quite useful to the mathematical community.

Abstract:The past decades have witnessed an explosion of interest in the application of mathematical models to science and engineering down at the atomic scale. Atomistic models are large, complex, multiscale, and in particular discrete, and provide a rich source of fascinating challenges for mathematics. In particular, a basic goal is to understand (1) how and at which length- and timescales the behaviour of large atomistic systems becomes well approximated by traditional continuum descriptions (of dislocations, grains, fracture, elasticity or plasticity), and under which circumstances atomistic and continuum \`\`modes'' are nontrivially coupled (2) how atomistic models can be accurately and efficiently extracted from quantum mechanical models. While mathematical research in this area is still in its early stages, interest by mathematicians in atomistic models is fast growing, and the goal of this workshop was to bring together leading mathematicians and materials scientists, in the unique Oberwolfach setting, in order to document recent results, discuss main open challenges, and stimulate an exchange between the two communities. The workshop focused on the following topics, the basic goals described above being recurrent themes. \begin{itemize} \item Derivation of interatomic potentials for magnetic materials from quantum mechanics (Drautz, Pettifor) \item Atomistic modelling of grain boundaries, phase boundaries, and surfaces (Elsaesser, Kratzer) \item Efficient algorithms in electronic structure theory (Gang Lu, Garcia\\--Cer\\-vera, Haynes) \item Atomic-continuum coupling (Braides, Cicalese, Delle Site, Guddati, Lus\\-kin, Ming, Mugnai, Schl\ömerkemper, Schmidt) \item Electronic-continuum coupling (Jianfeng Lu) \item Dislocation models (Garroni, Nguyen-Manh, Yang) \item Molecular dynamics (Colombo, Engquist, Giannoulis, Hartmann, James, Leimkuhler, Li, Stoltz, Theil, Zimmer). \end{itemize} The organizers are particularly indebted to the participants from both mathematics and materials science for making such a committed effort to communicate their work to researchers from the other community, both in the actual talks and in this Oberwolfach report. Judging by the success of this effort, we are confident that this report can serve as a starting point and a stimulation for a great deal of future interaction between our communities.

Abstract:This report documents the program and the outcomes of Dagstuhl Seminar 17221 Geometric Modelling, Interoperability and New Challenges. While previous Dagstuhl seminars on geometric modeling were focused on basic research, this seminar was focused on applications of geometric modeling to four topic areas: big data and cloud computing, multi-material additive manufacturing, isogeometric analysis, and design optimization. For this purpose we brought together participants from industry urgently in need of better solutions, researchers in the above application areas, and researchers in the geometric modeling community.

Abstract:The 3D high frequency eddy current field in a crucible is investigated in this paper by means of the finite element analysis. To tackle the rotational symmetrical geometry of the specified field problems, a new iterative procedure is proposed. The numerical results on a model problem with close-form solutions validated the proposed approach, and extensive numerical results of the 3D eddy fields in a prototype crucible are reported to facilitate the design of engineering crucibles.

Abstract:This is a summary of the talk I gave in response to the request of the organizers of this workshop to survey the algebro-geometric aspects of the mapping class group. I am grateful to them for asking me to do so, as this led me to revisit (and to rethink) a few these connections. But the reader be warned that although I have tried to tailor this survey to an audience of geometers of a non-algebraic denomination, it remained one au goût du jour and consisted in the end more of asking questions than of stating results.

Abstract:The theory and simulation working group (working group 6) of the third edition of the European Advanced Accelerator Workshop has been characterized by a strong numerical connotation. Particle in cell codes have proven to be a necessary tool to finely investigate the underlying physics both for laser and plasma wakefield acceleration processes. This year, the section has been characterised by an interest in the limitation of the numerical Cherenkov effect, the mitigation of the hose-instability, start-to-end simulations and more generally on new numerical schemes and diagnostics.

Abstract:This Report summarises the activities of the "SM and Higgs" working group for the Workshop "Physics at TeV Colliders", Les Houches, France, 2-20 May, 2005. On the one hand, we performed a variety of experimental and theoretical studies on standard candles (such as W, Z, and ttbar production), treating them either as proper signals of known physics, or as backgrounds to unknown physics; we also addressed issues relevant to those non-perturbative or semi-perturbative ingredients, such as Parton Density Functions and Underlying Events, whose understanding will be crucial for a proper simulation of the actual events taking place in the detectors. On the other hand, several channels for the production of the Higgs, or involving the Higgs, have been considered in some detail. The report is structured into four main parts. The first one deals with Standard Model physics, except the Higgs. A variety of arguments are treated here, from full simulation of processes constituting a background to Higgs production, to studies of uncertainties due to PDFs and to extrapolations of models for underlying events, from small-$x$ issues to electroweak corrections which may play a role in vector boson physics. The second part of the report treats Higgs physics from the point of view of the signal. In the third part, reviews are presented on the current status of multi-leg, next-to-leading order and of next-to-next-to-leading order QCD computations. Finally, the fourth part deals with the use of Monte Carlos for simulation of LHC physics.

Abstract: This Report summarizes the proceedings of the 2015 Les Houches workshop on Physics at TeV Colliders. Session 1 dealt with (I) new developments relevant for high precision Standard Model calculations, (II) the new PDF4LHC parton distributions, (III) issues in the theoretical description of the production of Standard Model Higgs bosons and how to relate experimental measurements, (IV) a host of phenomenological studies essential for comparing LHC data from Run I with theoretical predictions and projections for future measurements in Run II, and (V) new developments in Monte Carlo event generators.

Abstract:This is the final report of the NSF project of gathering and sharing information on possible Future Directions in Mechanics Research: " New Frontiers of Solid Mechanics-From Earthquakes to Single Molecules. " For this effort a workshop was organized and held at the Renaissance Providence Downtown Hotel, Providence, Rhode Island during June, 1-3, 2011. It was planned and organized with great help of the advisory committee composed of J. D. workshop leveraged the opportunities of reviewing past and ongoing research on solid mechanics by concurrently co-organizing the Freund Symposium supported by separate private organizations. Approximately seventy people of young as well as established researchers participated in the workshop, including graduate students and 51 registered senior researchers representing a variety of disciplines in engineering and science. As an outcome, many new ideas on possible future directions in mechanics research were shared across traditional disciplinary boundaries. The workshop was held successfully and has reached a conclusion that research is actively carried out, in the mechanics community, on solving problems in emerging new interdisciplinary fields as well as on new insights in unsolved challenging problems of traditional areas for both Intellectual merits and broad impacts. It is also noticed that hybrid approaches of experiments coupled with or guided by large scale computation is highly effective in discovering rich phenomena at various length and time scales. Some suggestions on the directions for research and education are described in this report.

Abstract:The second <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://PyHEP.dev" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> workshop, part of the "Python in HEP Developers" series organized by the HEP Software Foundation (HSF), took place in Aachen, Germany, from August 26 to 30, 2024. This gathering brought together nearly 30 Python package developers, maintainers, and power users to engage in informal discussions about current trends in Python, with a primary focus on analysis tools and techniques in High Energy Physics (HEP). The workshop agenda encompassed a range of topics, such as defining the scope of HEP data analysis, exploring the Analysis Grand Challenge project, evaluating statistical models and serialization methods, assessing workflow management systems, examining histogramming practices, and investigating distributed processing tools like RDataFrame, Coffea, and Dask. Additionally, the workshop dedicated time to brainstorming the organization of future <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://PyHEP.dev" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> events, upholding the tradition of alternating between Europe and the United States as host locations. This document, prepared by the session conveners in the weeks following the workshop, serves as a summary of the key discussions, salient points, and conclusions that emerged.

Abstract:This report is an outcome of the workshop for Nuclear held at Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility on March 4-6, 2020. The workshop brought together 184 scientists to explore opportunities for Nuclear Physics in the area of Artificial Intelligence. The workshop consisted of plenary talks, as well as six working groups. The report includes the workshop deliberations and additional contributions to describe prospects for using AI across Nuclear Physics research.

Abstract:The paper deals with the resolution of third and fourth degree equations by means of radicals. It is a survey of some historical details about this fundamental problem. Moreover, it explains practical methods for the resolution of third and fourth degree equation through the algebraic side and we introduce some results about the equations of greater degree. Mathematicians and complex numbers and the results of rules of calculations as well as having completed the theory of equations model Mathematics in different historical and chronological contexts at several levels of research. The subject would join a reference auditorium for authors, teachers and students at a time when the context of collocation favors algebraic equations and radical solutions.

Abstract:The mini-workshop focused on central questions and new results concerning spaces and moduli spaces of Riemannian metrics with lower or upper curvature bounds on open and closed manifolds and, moreover, related themes from Anosov geometry. These are all described in detail below. The event brought together young and senior researchers working about (moduli) spaces of negative and nonnegative sectional, nonnegative Ricci and positive scalar curvature as well as Anosov metrics, and the talks and discussions brought about many new and inspiring research problems to pursue.

Abstract:This report summarizes the findings of the AF1 Topical Subgroup to Snowmass 2021, which investigates beam physics and accelerator education within the accelerator frontiers (AF). The report focuses primarily on opportunities for basic accelerator and beam physics, formulated into four grand challenges. In addition, the report also studies the current status of accelerator education, outreach and diversity issues. Physics limits of ultimate beams for future colliders are also briefly discussed.
