Abstract:In the realm of battery research, the burgeoning interest in the unique two-dimensional material, MBene, derived from bulk ternary metal borides (MAB phase), has been notably observed. However, its potential is constrained by the current limitations inherent in its preparation strategy. In this work, an accordion-like structure Mo x B y (MBene) has been successfully prepared by completely etching Al layer from MoAlB via molten-salts method. The thermal behaviors, crystal structure, and surface chemical state have been analyzed by DSC/TG, XRD, and XPS testing, respectively. The micro-morphology of the obtained MBene is then characterized by scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope accompanying with EDS mappings. The results reveal that MBene synthesized from 620 °C (shorten as MBene-620) demonstrates its characteristic (020) peak and layered structure. When used as advanced anode for Li-ion batteries (LIBs), MBene delivers excellent electrochemical performances with a reversible specific capacity of 638.2 mAh g -1 after 100 cycles at 0.1 A g-1 current density. As a promising green strategy, this molten-salts method provides a new opportunity to explore wide applications of MBene series, especially in new energy fields of LIBs.
