Abstract:The top quark is the heaviest known elementary particle and plays a special role in the dynamics of fundamental interactions. Since its discovery at the Tevatron, several of its properties have been measured by the Tevatron experiments (CDF and DZERO). However, thanks to its unprecedentedly large production rate at the LHC a new level of precision in these measurements has been achieved by the LHC experiments (ATLAS and CMS). The latest LHC measurements of the top quark mass, total decay width, top-antitop spin correlations, and charge asymmetry are presented in this contribution. In addition, the results from the W-boson helicity measurement are presented.

Abstract:The top quark plays a central role in particle physics, as many experiments at the Large Hadron Collider scrutinize its properties within the Standard Model. Although most of the measurements of the top quarks today concentrate on production modes initiated by quarks or gluons, this review will highlight the lesser-explored modes initiated by pomerons or photons. It aims to provide an in-depth look into both the phenomenological studies and the existing experimental measurements, emphasizing the necessity of exploring the diffractive and photon-induced production of top quarks to enhance the accuracy of top-quark measurements.

Abstract:With a high instantaneous luminosity and the large top quark pair production cross section, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will be a "top factory" allowing the analysis of millions of top events. After a short description of the top quark pair production mechanism and the cross section measurement, the accuracy of the top mass measurement needed for a sound consistency check of the Standard Model is briefly discussed. Different top mass measurement methods are presented. The observability of the single top quark production is described. Finally the observation of the Higgs boson produced in association with a top quark pair is discussed.

Abstract:This paper provides a review of the experimental studies of processes with a single top quark at the Tevatron proton-antiproton collider and the LHC proton-proton collider. Single top-quark production in the t-channel process has been measured at both colliders. The s-channel process has been observed at the Tevatron, and its rate has been also measured at the center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV at the LHC in spite of the comparatively harsher background contamination. LHC data also brought the observation of the associated production of a single top quark with a W boson as well as with a Z boson. The Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element |Vtb| is extracted from the single-top-quark production cross sections, and t-channel events are used to measure several properties of the top quark and set constraints on models of physics beyond the Standard Model. Rare final states with a single top quark are searched for, as enhancements in their production rates, if observed, would be clear signs of new physics.

Abstract:The large top-quark samples collected with the ATLAS experiment at the LHC have yielded measurements of the inclusive \ttbar production cross section of unprecedented precision and differential measurements in new kinematic regimes.They have also enabled new measurements of top-quark properties that were previously inaccessible, enabled the observation of many rare top-quark production processes predicted by the Standard Model and boosted searches for flavour-changing-neutral-current interactions of the top-quark, that are heavily suppressed in the SM. In this contribution the highlights of the ATLAS top-quark physics program are presented, as well as projections of the expected sensitivity after the High Luminosity phase of the LHC. Abstract:Recent measurements of the properties of the top quark at the CERN Large Hadron Collider are discussed. The results were measured for single and top quark pair production in their final states, including jets with either one or two leptons or only in hadronic final states. Top quark properties include angular correlations, top quark spin correlations, mass, and width. When looking towards the future, top quark properties open new and even interdisciplinary avenues for probing quantum information science.

Abstract:Since the initial measurements of single-top quark production at the Tevatron in 2009, tremendous progress has been made at the LHC. While LHC Run 1 marked the beginning of a precision era for the single-top quark measurements in some of the main production mechanisms, LHC Run 2 witnessed the emergence and exploration of new processes associating top quark production with a neutral boson. In this paper, we review the measurements of the three main production mechanisms ($t$-channel, $s$-channel, and $tW$ production), and of the associated production with a photon, a $Z$ boson, or a Higgs boson. Differential cross-sections are measured for several of these processes and compared with theoretical predictions. The top quark properties that can be measured in single-top quark processes are scrutinized, such as $Wtb$ couplings and top quark couplings with neutral bosons, and the polarizations of both the $W$ boson and top quark. The effective field theory framework is emerging as a standard for interpreting property measurements. Perspectives for LHC Run 3 and the HL-LHC are discussed in the conclusions.

Abstract:Searches for new physics in the top quark sector are of great theoretical interest, yet some powerful avenues for discovery remain unexplored. We characterize the expected statistical power of the LHC dataset to constrain the single production of heavy top partners T decaying to a top quark and a photon or a top quark and a gluon. We describe an effective interaction which could generate such production, though the limits apply to a range of theoretical models. We find sensitivity to cross sections in the 10 2 − 10 5 fb range, for T masses between 300 and 1000 GeV, depending on decay mode.
