Abstract:Categorial actions of braided tensor categories are defined and shown to be the right framework for a discussion of the categorial structure related to the group of braids in the cylinder. A Kauffman polynomial of links in the solid torus is constructed.

Abstract:Let C be a finite braided multitensor category. Then the end B = fX is an element of C X circle times X* is natural a Hopf algebra in C. We show that the Drinfeld center of C is isomorphic to the category of left B- comodules in C, and the decomposition of B into a direct sum of indecomposable C-subcoalgebras leads to a decomposition of B-Comod C into a direct sum of indecomposable C-module subcategories.As an application, we present an explicit characterization of the structure of irreducible Yetter-Drinfeld modules over semisimple and cosemisimple quasi-triangular weak Hopf algebras. Our results generalize those results on finite groups and on quasi-triangular Hopf algebras.(c) 2022 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
Categorical braid group actions and cactus groups

Abstract:Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a semisimple simply-laced Lie algebra of finite type. Let $\mathcal{C}$ be an abelian categorical representation of the quantum group $U_q(\mathfrak{g})$ categorifying an integrable representation $V$. The Artin braid group $B$ of $\mathfrak{g}$ acts on $D^b(\mathcal{C})$ by Rickard complexes, providing a triangulated equivalence $\Theta_{w_0}:D^b(\mathcal{C}_\mu) \to D^b(\mathcal{C}_{w_0(\mu)})$, where $\mu$ is a weight of $V$ and $\Theta_{w_0}$ is a positive lift of the longest element of the Weyl group. We prove that this equivalence is t-exact up to shift when $V$ is isotypic, generalising a fundamental result of Chuang and Rouquier in the case $\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{sl}_2$. For general $V$, we prove that $\Theta_{w_0}$ is a perverse equivalence with respect to a Jordan-Hölder filtration of $\mathcal{C}$. Using these results we construct, from the action of $B$ on $V$, an action of the cactus group on the crystal of $V$. This recovers the cactus group action on $V$ defined via generalised Schützenberger involutions, and provides a new connection between categorical representation theory and crystal bases. We also use these results to give new proofs of theorems of Berenstein-Zelevinsky, Rhoades, and Stembridge regarding the action of symmetric group on the Kazhdan-Lusztig basis of its Specht modules.

Abstract:We characterize the simplicity of Pimsner algebras for non-proper C*-correspondences. With the aid of this criterion, we give a systematic strategy to produce outer actions of unitary tensor categories on Kirchberg algebras. In particular, every countable unitary tensor category admits an outer action on the Cuntz algebra $\mathcal{O}_2$. We also study the realizability of modules over fusion rings as K-groups of Kirchberg algebras acted on by unitary tensor categories, which turns out to be generically true for every unitary fusion category. Several new examples are provided, among which actions on Cuntz algebras of 3-cocycle twists of cyclic groups are constructed for all possible 3-cohomological classes by answering a question asked by Izumi.

Abstract:We study actions of discrete groups on 2-categories. The motivating examples are actions on the 2-category of representations of finite tensor categories and their relation with the extension theory of tensor categories by groups. Associated to a group action on a 2-category, we construct the 2-category of equivariant objects. We also introduce the G-equivariant notions of pseudofunctor, pseudonatural transformation and modification. Our first main result is a coherence theorem for 2-categories with an action of a group. For a 2-category B with an action of a group G, we construct a braided G-crossed monoidal category Z_G(B) with trivial component the Drinfeld center of B. We prove that, in the case of a G-action on the 2-category of representation of a tensor category C, the 2-category of equivariant objects is biequivalent to the module categories over an associated G-extension of C. Finally, we prove that the center of the equivariant 2-category is monoidally equivalent to the equivariantization of a relative center, generalizing results obtained in [S. Gelaki, D. Naidu and D. Nikshych, Centers of graded fusion categories, Algebra Number Theory 3, No. 8 (2009), 959--990.]

The Elliptic Drinfeld Center of a Premodular Category

Abstract:Given a tensor category C, one constructs its Drinfeld center Z(C) which is a braided tensor category, having as objects pairs (X, lambda), where X in Obj(C) and lambda is a half-braiding. For a premodular category C, we construct a new category Zel(C) which we call the Elliptic Drinfeld Center, which has objects (X, lambda1, lambda2), where the lambda i's are half-braidings that satisfy some compatibility conditions. We discuss an SL2(Z)-action on Zel(C) that is related to the anomaly appearing in Reshetikhin-Turaev theory. This construction is motivated from the study of the extended Crane-Yetter TQFT, in particular the category associated to the once punctured torus.

Abstract:The Hecke algebras for all symmetric groups taken together form a braided monoidal category that controls all quantum link invariants of type A and, by extension, the standard canon of topological quantum field theories in dimension 3 and 4. Here we provide the first categorification of this Hecke braided monoidal category, which takes the form of an $\mathbb{E}_2$-monoidal $(\infty,2)$-category whose hom-$(\infty,1)$-categories are $k$-linear, stable, idempotent-complete, and equipped with $\mathbb{Z}$-actions. This categorification is designed to control homotopy-coherent link homology theories and to-be-constructed topological quantum field theories in dimension 4 and 5.

Abstract:We consider a set of toric Calabi–Yau varieties which arise as deformations of the small resolutions of type A surface singularities. By careful analysis of the heuristics of B-brane transport in the associated gauged linear sigma models, we predict the existence of a mixed braid group action on the derived category of each variety, and then prove that this action does indeed exist. This generalizes the braid group action found by Seidel and Thomas for the undeformed resolutions. We also show that the actions for different deformations are related, in a way that is predicted by the physical heuristics.

Derived Braids of Decreasing Products and their Categories

Abstract:Derived braids have been used to classify categorical structures based on the braid underlying a braided monoidal category V. With four-strand braids underlying the composition morphisms of tensor products of categories enriched over V, equality of derived braids has been seen to correspond with the results of Joyal and Street on coherence for braided monoidal categories, namely that diagrams commute when the braids underlying the legs of the diagram are equal. Equality of derived braids can then be seen as a generalization of the Yang-Baxter equation that appears in the work of Joyal and Street. The main result is a proof that decreasing products, which are braids formed from component braids with even numbers of strands, have equivalent derived braids. Plans for future work include interpreting what categorical structures correspond to decreasing products.

Abstract:Following the dimensional ladder, we develop a systematic categorification of the theory of quantum groups/bialgebras in the $A_\infty$ setting, and study their higher-representation theory. By following closely the generalized quantum double construction of Majid, we construct in particular the 2-quantum double $D(\mathcal{G})$ associated to a 2-bialgebra $\mathcal{G}$, and prove its duality and factorization properties. We also characterize a notion of (quasitriangular) 2-R-matrix $\mathcal{R}$ and identify the associated 2-Yang-Baxter equations, which can be seen as a categorification of the usual notion of $R$-matrix in an ordinary quantum group. The main result we prove in this paper is that the weak 2-representation 2-category $\operatorname{2Rep}^{\mathcal{T}}(\mathcal{G})$ of a quasitriangular 2-bialgebra $(\mathcal{G},\mathcal{T},\mathcal{R})$ -- when monoidally weakened by a Hochschild 3-cocycle $\mathcal{T}$ -- forms a braided monoidal 2-category.

Abstract:We show that the braided Hochschild cohomology, of an algebra in a suitably algebraic braided monoidal category, admits a graded ring structure under which it is braided commutative. We then give a canonical identification between the usual Hochschild cohomology ring of a smash product and the (derived) invariants of its braided Hochschild cohomology ring. We apply our results to identify the associative formal deformation theory of a smash product with its formal deformation theory as a module algebra over the given Hopf algebra (when the Hopf algebra is sufficiently semisimple). As a second application we deduce some structural results for the usual Hochschild cohomology of a smash product, and discuss specific implications for finite group actions on smooth affine schemes.

Abstract:Just as knots and links can be algebraically described as certain morphisms in the category of tangles in 3 dimensions, compact surfaces smoothly embedded in R^4 can be described as certain 2-morphisms in the 2-category of `2-tangles in 4 dimensions'. Using the work of Carter, Rieger and Saito, we prove that this 2-category is the `free semistrict braided monoidal 2-category with duals on one unframed self-dual object'. By this universal property, any unframed self-dual object in a braided monoidal 2-category with duals determines an invariant of 2-tangles in 4 dimensions.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose an axiomatic definition for a tensor product categorification. A tensor product categorification is an abelian category with a categorical action of a Kac-Moody algebra g in the sense of Rouquier or Khovanov-Lauda whose Grothendieck group is isomorphic to a tensor product of simple modules. However, we require a much stronger structure than a mere isomorphism of representations; most importantly, each such categorical representation must have standardly stratified structure compatible with the categorification functors, and with combinatorics matching those of the tensor product. With these stronger conditions, we recover a uniqueness theorem similar in flavor to that of Rouquier for categorifications of simple modules. Furthermore, we already know of an example of such a categorification: the representations of algebras T^\lambda previously defined by the second author using generators and relations. Next, we show that tensor product categorifications give a categorical realization of tensor product crystals analogous to that for simple crystals given by cyclotomic quotients of KLR algebras. Examples of such categories are also readily found in more classical representation theory; for finite and affine type A, tensor product categorifications can be realized as quotients of the representation categories of cyclotomic q-Schur algebras.

A braid group action on an $A_\infty$-category for zigzag algebras

Abstract:We construct differential graded enhancements of the zigzag algebras which were used by Khovanov, Seidel and Thomas to produce categorical braid group actions. These enhancements are related to $p$-differential graded structures by a version of Koszul duality. We prove that the minimal model $A_\infty$-structure on the zigzag algebras is {\em not} formal. We construct a braid group action in this setting and suggest a symplectic interpretation.

The Center of Monoidal Bicategories in 3+1D Dijkgraaf-Witten Theory

Abstract:In this work, for a finite group $G$ and a 4-cocycle $\omega \in Z^4(G,\mathbf{k}^\times)$, we compute explicitly the center of the monoidal bicategory $\operatorname{2Vec}_G^{\omega}$ of $\omega$-twisted $G$-graded 1-categories of finite dimensional $\mathbf{k}$-vector spaces. We show that this center is a braided monoidal bicategory with a trivial Müger center. It turns out that, even in this simple case, we need go beyond semi-strict setting and consider the most general definition of a braided monoidal bicategory. This center gives a precise mathematical description of the topological defects in the associated 3+1D Dijkgraaf-Witten TQFT.
Pure braid group actions on category O modules

Abstract:Let g be a symmetrisable Kac-Moody algebra and U_h(g) its quantised enveloping algebra. Answering a question of P. Etingof, we prove that the quantum Weyl group operators of U_h(g) give rise to a canonical action of the pure braid group of g on any category O (not necessarily integrable) U_h(g)-module V. By relying on our recent results in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1512.03041" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1512.03041">arXiv:1512.03041</a>, we show that this action describes the monodromy of the rational Casimir connection on the g-module corresponding to V under the Etingof-Kazhdan equivalence of category O for g and U_h(g). We also extend these results to yield equivalent quantum Weyl group and monodromic representations of parabolic pure braid groups on parabolic category O for U_h(g) and g.
