Abstract:We perform a study on the predictions of electric-dipole moments of neutron, Mercury (Hg), Thallium (Tl), deuteron, and Radium (Ra) in the framework of next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model with $CP$-violating parameters in the superpotential and soft-supersymmetry-breaking sector. We confine to the case in which only the physical tree-level $CP$ phase (${\ensuremath{\phi}}_{\ensuremath{\lambda}}^{\ensuremath{'}}\ensuremath{-}{\ensuremath{\phi}}_{\ensuremath{\kappa}}^{\ensuremath{'}}$), associated with the couplings of the singlet terms in the superpotential and with the vacuum-expectation-values, takes on a nonzero value. We found that the one-loop contributions from neutralinos are mostly small while the two-loop Higgs-mediated contributions of the Barr-Zee type diagrams dominate. We emphasize a scenario motivated by electroweak baryogenesis.

Abstract:We discuss the constraints on the Higgs sector coming from the requirement of the generation of the matter-antimatter asymmetry at the electroweak phase transition. These relate to both a strongly first order first transition, necessary for the preservation of the generated baryon asymmetry, as well as CP-violation, necessary for its generation. This scenario may lead to exotic decays of the Standard Model like Higgs, a deviation of the di-Higgs production cross section, or CP-violation in the Higgs sector. All these aspects are expected to be probed by the LHC as well as by electric dipole moment experiments, among others. Further phenomenological implications are discussed in this short review.

Higgs Bosons in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with Explicit CP Violation

Abstract:We study the Higgs-boson mass spectrum of the minimal supersymmetric standard model, in which the tree-level CP invariance of the Higgs potential is broken explicitly by loop effects of soft-CP-violating Yukawa interactions related to scalar quarks of the third generation. The analysis is performed by considering the CP-non-invariant renormalization-group improved effective potential through next-to-leading order that includes leading logarithms due to two-loop Yukawa and QCD corrections. We find that the three neutral Higgs particles predicted by the theory may strongly mix with one another, thereby significantly modifying their tree-level couplings to fermions and to the $W^\pm$ and Z bosons. We analyze the phenomenological consequences of such a minimal supersymmetric scenario of explicit CP violation on the production rates of the lightest Higgs particle, and discuss strategies for its potential discovery at high-energy colliders.

Higgs Scalars in the Minimal Non-minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model

Abstract:We consider the simplest and most economic version among the proposed non-minimal supersymmetric models, in which the $\mu$-parameter is promoted to a singlet superfield, whose all self-couplings are absent from the renormalizable superpotential. Such a particularly simple form of the renormalizable superpotential may be enforced by discrete $R$-symmetries which are extended to the gravity-induced non-renormalizable operators as well. We show explicitly that within the supergravity-mediated supersymmetry-breaking scenario, the potentially dangerous divergent tadpoles associated with the presence of the gauge singlet first appear at loop levels higher than 5 and therefore do not destabilize the gauge hierarchy. The model provides a natural explanation for the origin of the $\mu$-term, without suffering from the visible axion or the cosmological domain-wall problem. Focusing on the Higgs sector of this minimal non-minimal supersymmetric standard model, we calculate its effective Higgs potential by integrating out the dominant quantum effects due to stop squarks. We then discuss the phenomenological implications of the Higgs scalars predicted by the theory for the present and future high-energy colliders. In particular, we find that our new minimal non-minimal supersymmetric model can naturally accommodate a relatively light charged Higgs boson, with a mass close to the present experimental lower bound.

Status of Electroweak Baryogenesis in Minimal Composite Higgs

Abstract:We present an update on the status of electroweak baryogenesis in minimal composite Higgs models. The particularity of this framework is that the electroweak phase transition can proceed simultaneously with the confinement phase transition of the new strong dynamics that produces the composite Higgs. The latter transition is controlled by the dilaton - the pseudo-Goldstone boson of an approximate scale invariance of the composite sector. Since it naturally is first-order, the electroweak phase transition becomes first-order too. Another appealing aspect is that the necessary additional source of CP violation can arise from the variation of the quark Yukawa couplings during the phase transition, which is built-in naturally in this scenario. These two features address the shortcomings of electroweak baryogenesis in the Standard Model. We confront this scenario with the latest experimental bounds derived from collider searches for new resonances and measurements of the Higgs couplings and electric dipole moments. All these constraints provide (or will be able to provide in the near future) important bounds on the considered scenario, with the most stringent ones coming from LHC searches for new resonances which constrain the dilaton mass and couplings. We identify the viable region of parameter space which satisfies all the constraints, and is characterized by a dilaton mass in the $300-500$ GeV range and a Higgs decay constant $f \lesssim 1.1$ TeV. We discuss its future tests.

Abstract:We study the implications of minimal flavor violating low energy supersymmetry scenarios for the search of new physics in the B and Higgs sectors at the Tevatron collider and the LHC. We show that the already stringent Tevatron bound on the decay rate Bs→μ+μ- sets strong constraints on the possibility of generating large corrections to the mass difference ΔMs of the Bs eigenstates. We also show that the Bs→μ+μ- bound together with the constraint on the branching ratio of the rare decay b→sγ has strong implications for the search of light, nonstandard Higgs bosons at hadron colliders. In doing this, we demonstrate that the former expressions derived for the analysis of the double penguin contributions in the Kaon sector need to be corrected by additional terms for a realistic analysis of these effects. We also study a specific nonminimal flavor violating scenario, where there are flavor changing gluino-squark-quark interactions, governed by the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix elements, and show that the B and Higgs physics constraints are similar to the ones in the minimal flavor violating case. Finally we show that, in scenarios like electroweak baryogenesis which have light stops and charginos, there may be enhanced effects on the B and K mixing parameters, without any significant effect on the rate of Bs→μ+μ-.

Abstract:We study the nature of the electroweak phase transition (EWPT) in models where the Higgs boson emerges as a pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson of an approximate global symmetry of a new strongly interacting sector confining around the TeV scale. Our analysis focuses for the first time on the case where the EWPT is accompanied by the confinement phase transition of the strong sector. We describe the confinement in terms of the dilaton, the pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson of spontaneously broken conformal invariance of the strong sector. The dilaton can either be a mesonlike or a glueball-like state and we demonstrate a significant qualitative difference in their dynamics. We show that the EWPT can naturally be strongly first order, due to the nearly conformal nature of the dilaton potential. Furthermore, we examine the sizable scale variation of the Higgs potential parameters during the EWPT. In particular, we consider in detail the case of a varying top quark Yukawa coupling, and show that the resulting CP violation is sufficient for successful electroweak baryogenesis. We demonstrate that this source of CP violation is compatible with existing flavor and CP constraints. Our scenario can be tested in complementary ways: by measuring the CP-odd top Yukawa coupling in electron electric dipole moment experiments, by searching for dilaton production and deviations in Higgs couplings at colliders, and through gravitational waves at LISA.

Abstract:In this work, we make the first study of electroweak baryogenesis (EWBG) based on the LHC data in the CP-violating next-to-minimal supersymmetric model (NMSSM) where a strongly first order electroweak phase transition (EWPT) is obtained in the general complex Higgs potential. With representative benchmark points which pass the current LEP and LHC constraints, we demonstrate the structure of EWPT for those points and how a strongly first order EWPT is obtained in the complex NMSSM where the resulting gravitational wave production properties are found to be within the reaches of future space-based interferometers like BBO and Ultimate-DECIGO. We further calculate the generated baryon asymmetries where the CP violating sources are (1): higgsino-singlino dominated, (2): higgsino-gaugino dominated or (3): from both sources. It is shown that all three representing scenarios could evade the strong constraints set by various electric dipole moments (EDM) searches where cancellations among the EDM contributions occur at the tree level (higgsino-singlino dominated) or loop level (higgsino-gaugino dominated). The 125 GeV SM like Higgs can be either the second lightest neutral Higgs H2 or the third lightest neutral Higgs H3. Finally, we comment on the future direct and indirect probe of CPV in the Higgs sector from the collider and EDM experiments.

Abstract:A bstract We present a comprehensive study of the electroweak phase transition in composite Higgs models, where the Higgs arises from a new, strongly-coupled sector which confines near the TeV scale. This work extends our study in ref. [ 1 ]. We describe the confinement phase transition in terms of the dilaton, the pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson of broken conformal invariance of the composite Higgs sector. From the analysis of the joint Higgs-dilaton potential we conclude that in this scenario the electroweak phase transition can naturally be first-order, allowing for electroweak baryogenesis. We then extensively discuss possible options to generate a sufficient amount of CP violation — another key ingredient of baryogenesis — from quark Yukawa couplings which vary during the phase transition. For one such an option, with a varying charm quark Yukawa coupling, we perform a full numerical analysis of tunnelling in the Higgs-dilaton potential and determine regions of parameter space which allow for successful baryogenesis. This scenario singles out the light dilaton region while satisfying all experimental bounds. We discuss future tests. Our results bring new opportunities and strong motivations for electroweak baryogenesis.

Abstract:The origin of the matter antimatter asymmetry of the universe remains unexplained in the Standard Model of particle physics. The origin of the flavour structure is another major puzzle of the theory. In this article, we report on recent work attempting to link the two themes through the appealing framework of electroweak baryogenesis. We show that Yukawa couplings of Standard Model fermions can be the source of CP-violation for electroweak baryogenesis if they vary at the same time as the Higgs is acquiring its vacuum expectation value, offering new avenues for electroweak baryogenesis. The advantage of this approach is that it circumvents the usual severe bounds from Electric Dipole moments. These ideas apply if the mechanism explaining the flavour structure of the Standard Model is connected to electroweak symmetry breaking, as motivated for instance in Randall-Sundrum or Composite Higgs models. We compute the resulting baryon asymmetry for different configurations of the Yukawa coupling variation across the bubble wall, and show that it can naturally be of the right order.

Abstract:We construct a minimal viable extension of the standard model (SM) with classical scale symmetry. Its scalar sector contains a complex singlet in addition to the SM Higgs doublet. The scale-invariant and CP-symmetric Higgs potential generates radiative electroweak symmetry breaking a la Coleman-Weinberg, and gives a natural solution to the hierarchy problem, free from fine-tuning. Besides the 125GeV SM-like Higgs particle, it predicts a new CP-even Higgs (serving as the pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson of scale symmetry breaking) and a CP-odd scalar singlet (providing the dark matter candidate) at weak scale. We systematically analyze experimental constraints from direct LHC Higgs searches and electroweak precision tests, as well as theoretical bounds from unitarity, triviality and vacuum stability. We demonstrate the viable parameter space, and discuss implications for new Higgs and dark matter (DM) searches at the upcoming LHC runs and for the on-going direct detections of DM.

Abstract:The $SU(3)_c^{}\times SU(2)_L^{} \times U(1)_Y^{}$ standard model is extended by a $U(1)_{B-L}^{}$ gauge symmetry with four right-handed neutrinos. Because of their Yukawa couplings to a Higgs singlet for spontaneously breaking the $U(1)_{B-L}^{}$ symmetry, two right-handed neutrinos can form a Dirac fermion to become a stable dark matter particle. Meanwhile, mediated by additionally heavy Higgs doublet(s), fermion singlet(s) and/or fermion doublet(s), the other two right-handed neutrinos can have a dimension-5 operator with the standard model lepton and Higgs doublets as well as the $U(1)_{B-L}^{}$ Higgs singlet. This context can realize a minimal Dirac neutrino mass matrix only with two nonzero eigenvalues. In association with the sphaleron processes, the interactions for generating the Dirac neutrino masses can also produce the observed baryon asymmetry in the universe.

Abstract:We propose a new mechanism of baryogenesis which proceeds via a CP-violating phase transition. During this phase transition, the coupling of the Weinberg operator is dynamically realised and subsequently a lepton asymmetry is generated via the non-zero interference of this operator at different times. This new scenario of leptogenesis provides a direct connection between the baryon asymmetry, low energy neutrino parameters and leptonic flavour models.

Abstract:The observation of neutrino masses leads to the possibility of leptonic mixing and CP violation. One of the simplest extensions of the Standard Model giving rise to neutrino masses consists of the introduction of one righthanded neutrino field per generation, singlet of SU(2). In the context of the seesaw mechanism this leads to three light and three heavy neutrinos. The charged current interactions couple the charged leptons to both the light and the heavy physical neutrinos and leptonic CP violation may occur at low energies as well as at high energies giving rise to the possibility of leptogenesis. There are special scenarios where it is possible to establish a connection between CP violation at the two different scales, an interesting example is included in this work. Furthermore, we describe how the conjecture that all phenomena of CP violation present in nature could have a common origin can be realized in the framework of a further minimal extension of the Standard Model with CP broken through the phase of the vacuum expectation value of a complex Higgs singlet.

Light Higgsino from A_t Dilemma in Rare B-decays

Abstract:In the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), large chiral symmetry breaking term A_t, which plays an important role in Higgs mass, may significantly contribute in flavor changing neutral current (FCNC) processes B→ X_sγ and B_s→μ^+μ^-. Though the above processes can both be categorized as b→ s transitions, the two rare decays behave completely different in MSSM. With an on-shell photon in the final state, helicity of initial state b-quark and final state s-quark must be flipped in B→ X_sγ, which corresponds to the simultaneous breaking of chiral symmetry and electroweak symmetry. The common feature is shared by fermion mass generation. Same as radiative mass generation in MSSM, Peccei-Quinn and R symmetry breaking contributions, for example from a Higgsino-stop loop when μ A_t<0, may significantly cancel the contribution from charged Higgs and reduce the prediction of B→ X_sγ. For the latter process, including Babu-Kolda FCNC proportional to μ A_t, B_s→μ^+μ^- is mediated by a scalar H_d boson which corresponds to chiral symmetry breaking. In addition, as a result of interference among the Higgs extension sector and Z contributions, in the region of μ A_t <0 which is favored by B→ X_sγ, there may simultaneously exist large enhancement in B_s→μ^+μ^-. However, we still find viable parameter region with light Higgsino of a few hundreds GeV when charged Higgs contribution is not negligible with M_A of 400 GeV.

Abstract:We precisely derive the mass squared matrices for charged and neutral (CP-odd and CP-even) Higgs, as well as the mass matrices for neutrino-neutralino and charged lepton-chargino in the minimal R-parity violating supersymmetry with local U(1)(B-L) symmetry. In the framework the nonzero TeV scale vacuum expectations of right-handed sneutrinos induce the heavy mass of neutral U(1)(B-L) gauge bosons and result in relatively large mixing between the lightest CP-even Higgs and the right-handed sneutrinos when we include the one-loop corrections to the scalar potential. We numerically show that there is parameter space of the considered model to accommodate experimental data on the new ones of Higgs signal from the LHC and experimental observations on the neutrino oscillation simultaneously.

Abstract:This study explores the parameter space of a minimal extension of the Standard Model with a non-abelian $SU(2)$ group, in which the gauge bosons are stable and acquire mass through a mechanism of spontaneous symmetry breaking involving a new scalar doublet which interacts with the Higgs boson through a quartic coupling. The exploration aims to assess whether it is possible to obtain a first-order phase transition while ensuring that the gauge bosons are viable dark matter candidates. Theoretical, astrophysical and collider bounds are considered. The results are then tested against the sensitivity of future experiments for the detection of gravitational wave signals.

Abstract:We explore lepton-flavored electroweak baryogenesis, driven by CP-violation in leptonic Yukawa sector, using the tau - mu system in the two Higgs doublet model as an example. This setup generically yields, together with the flavor-changing decay h -> tau mu, a tree-level Jarlskog invariant that can drive dynamical generation of baryon asymmetry during a first-order electroweak phase transition and results in CP-violating effects in the decay h -> tau tau. We find that the observed baryon asymmetry can be generated in parameter space compatible with current experimental results for the decays h -> tau mu, h -> tau tau, and tau -> mu gamma, as well as the present bound on the electric dipole moment of the electron. The baryon asymmetry generated is intrinsically correlated with the CP-violating decay h -> tau tau and the flavor-changing decay h -> tau mu, which thus may serve as "smoking guns" to test lepton-flavored electroweak baryogenesis.
Electroweak baryogenesis in the three-loop neutrino mass model with dark matter

Abstract:Baryon asymmetry of the Universe is evaluated in the model originally proposed in Phys. Rev. Lett. 102 (2009) 051805, where Majorana masses of neutrinos are generated via three-loop diagrams composed of additional scalar bosons including the dark matter candidate which is odd under an unbroken $Z_2$ symmetry. In order for the model to include multiple CP-violating phases, we do not impose the softly broken $Z_2$ symmetry imposed in the original model to avoid the flavor-changing neutral current at tree level. Instead, for simplicity, we assume the flavor alignment structure in the Yukawa interactions. We also simply assume the alignment structure in the Higgs potential so that the Higgs couplings coincide with those in the SM at tree level. Under these phenomenological simplifications, the model still contains multiple CP-violating phases. By using destructive interferences among them, it is compatible with the stringent constraint from the electric dipole moment measurements to generate the observed baryon asymmetry along with the scenario of electroweak baryogenesis. We show a benchmark scenario which can explain neutrino mass, dark matter and baryon asymmetry of the universe simultaneously and can satisfy all the other available experimental data. Some phenomenological predictions of the model are also discussed.
