Abstract:Within the relativistic PWIA, spin observables have been recalculated for quasielastic ($\vec p,\vec p '$) and ($\vec p,\vec n$) reactions on a $^{40}$Ca target. The incident proton energy ranges from 135 to 300 MeV while the transferred momentum is kept fixed at 1.97 fm^{-1}. In the present calculations, new Horowitz-Love--Franey relativistic NN amplitudes have been generated in order to yield improved and more quantitative spin observable values than before. The sensitivities of the various spin observables to the NN interaction parameters, such as (1) the presence of the surrounding nuclear medium, (2) a pseudoscalar versus a pseudovector interaction term, and (3) exchange effects, point to spin observables which should preferably be measured at certain laboratory proton energies, in order to test current nuclear models. This study also shows that nuclear medium effects become more important at lower proton energies ($\leq$ 200 MeV). A comparison to the limited available data indicates that the relativistic parametrization of the NN scattering amplitudes in terms of only the five Fermi invariants (the SVPAT form) is questionable.

Octonions as Clifford-like algebras

Abstract:The associative Cayley-Dickson algebras over the field of real numbers are also Clifford algebras. The alternative but nonassociative real Cayley-Dickson algebras, notably the octonions and split octonions, share with Clifford algebras an involutary anti-automorphism and a set of mutually anticommutative generators. On the basis of these similarities, we introduce Kingdon algebras: alternative Clifford-like algebras over vector spaces equipped with a symmetric bilinear form. Over three-dimensional vector spaces, our construction quantizes an alternative non-associative analogue of the exterior algebra. The octonions and split octonions, along with other real generalized Cayley-Dickson algebras in Albert's sense, arise as Kingdon algebras. Our construction gives natural characterizations of the octonion and split octonion algebras by a universality property endowing them with a selected superalgebra structure.

Abstract:We present different methods for symbolic computer algebra computations in higher dimensional (\ge9) Clifford algebras using the \Clifford\ and \Bigebra\ packages for \Maple(R). This is achieved using graded tensor decompositions, periodicity theorems and matrix spinor representations over Clifford numbers. We show how to code the graded algebra isomorphisms and the main involutions, and we provide some benchmarks.

Abstract:In this article, we investigate how the Witt basis serves as a link between real and complex variables in higher-dimensional spaces. Our focus is on the detailed construction of the Witt basis within the tensor product space combining Clifford algebra and multiple octonionic spaces. This construction effectively introduces complex coordinates. The technique is based on a specific subgroup of octonionic automorphisms, distinguished by binary codes. This method allows us to perform a Hermitian analysis of the complex structures within the tensor product space.

Abstract:Clifford algebras are naturally associated with quadratic forms. These algebras are Z_2-graded by construction. However, only a Z_n-gradation induced by a choice of a basis, or even better, by a Chevalley vector space isomorphism Cl(V) <-> \bigwedge V and an ordering, guarantees a multi-vector decomposition into scalars, vectors, tensors, and so on, mandatory in physics. We show that the Chevalley isomorphism theorem cannot be generalized to algebras if the Z_n-grading or other structures are added, e.g., a linear form. We work with pairs consisting of a Clifford algebra and a linear form or a Z_n-grading which we now call 'Clifford algebras of multi-vectors' or 'quantum Clifford algebras'. It turns out, that in this sense, all multi-vector Clifford algebras of the same quadratic but different bilinear forms are non-isomorphic. The usefulness of such algebras in quantum field theory and superconductivity was shown elsewhere. Allowing for arbitrary bilinear forms however spoils their diagonalizability which has a considerable effect on the tensor decomposition of the Clifford algebras governed by the periodicity theorems, including the Atiyah-Bott-Shapiro mod 8 periodicity. We consider real algebras Cl_{p,q} which can be decomposed in the symmetric case into a tensor product Cl_{p-1,q-1} \otimes Cl_{1,1}. The general case used in quantum field theory lacks this feature. Theories with non-symmetric bilinear forms are however needed in the analysis of multi-particle states in interacting theories. A connection to q-deformed structures through nontrivial vacuum states in quantum theories is outlined.

Unified theory of elementary fermions and their interactions based on Clifford algebras

Abstract:Seven commuting elements of the Clifford algebra $Cl_{7,7}$ define seven binary eigenvalues that distinguish the $2^7=128$ states of 32 fermions, and determine their parity, electric charge and interactions. Three commuting elements of the sub-algebra $Cl_{3,3}$ define three binary quantum numbers that distinguish the eight states of lepton doublets. The Dirac equation is reformulated in terms of a Lorentz invariant operator which expresses the properties of these states in terms of Dirac 4-component spinors. Re-formulation of the Standard Model shows chiral symmetry breaking to be redundant. A $Cl_{3,3}$ sub-algebra of $Cl_{5,5}$ defines two additional binary quantum numbers that distinguish quarks and leptons, and describes the SU(3) gluons that produce the hadron substrate, explaining quark confinement. Finally, a $Cl_{3,3}$ sub-algebra of $Cl_{7,7}$ defines a further two binary quantum numbers that distinguish four fermion generations. The predicted fourth generation is shown to have no neutrino and a distinct substrate, suggesting that ordinary matter is confined and providing candidates for unconfined dark matter. Interactions between fermions in the first three generations are predicted, including those that produce flavour symmetry. Relationships are explored between the $Cl_{1,3}$ algebra and general relativity, and between $Cl_{5,5}$ and SO(32) string theory.

Abstract:In this paper we combine methods from projective geometry, Klein's model, and Clifford algebra. We develop a Clifford algebra whose Pin group is a double cover of the group of regular projective transformations. The Clifford algebra we use is constructed as homogeneous model for the five-dimensional real projective space $P^5(\mathbb{R})$ where Klein's quadric $M_2^4$ defines the quadratic form. We discuss all entities that can be represented naturally in this homogeneous Clifford algebra model. Projective automorphisms of Klein's quadric induce projective transformations of $P^3(\mathbb{R})$ and vice versa. Cayley-Klein geometries can be represented by Clifford algebras, where the group of Cayley-Klein isometries is given by the Pin group of the corresponding Clifford algebra. Therefore, we examine the versor group and study the correspondence between versors and regular projective transformations represented as $4\times 4$ matrices. Furthermore, we give methods to compute a versor corresponding to a given projective transformation.

Abstract:We study application of the Clifford algebra and the Grassmann algebra to image recognitions in $(3+1)D$ using quaternions. Following S.L.Adler, we construct a quaternion-valued wave function model with fermions and bosons of equal degrees of freedom, similar to Cartan's supersymmetric model. The Clifford algebra ${\mathcal A}_{3,1}$ is compared with ${\mathcal A}_{2,1}$ and the model applied to the $(2+1)D$ non-destructive testing is extended. The fixed point lattice actions are calculated for 7 paths in $(3+1)D$ space with lengths less than or equal to 8 lattice units. Comparison with the quaternion time approach of Ariel, quaternion Fourier transform of Hitzer and the tensor renormalization group approach to classical lattice models are also discussed.

The present article studies relations between the counterpart quantities in higher dimensional spheres with several different but commonly adopted settings, namely, harmonic functions in the Euclidean ${\mathbb R}^n, n\ge 2,$ regular functions in the quaternionic algebra, and Clifford monogenic functions with the real-Clifford algebra ${\mathcal{CL}}_{0, n-1},$ the latter being generated by the multiplication anti-commutative basic imaginary units ${\e}_1, {\e}_2, \cdots , {\e}_{n-1}$ with ${\e}_j^2=-1, j>0.$ It is noted that, while exactly the same equivalence relations hold for harmonic functions in ${\mathbb R}^n$ and regular functions in the quaternionic algebra, for the Clifford algebra setting $n>3,$ the relation (\ref{more}) has to be replaced by essentially a different rule.

Abstract:It is set manifest an underlying algebraic structure of Dirac equation and solutions, in terms of Cl2 Clifford algebra projectors and ladder operators. From it, a scheme is proposed for constructing unified field theories by enlarging the pointed algebra. A toy unified matter field model is formulated, modifying Dirac equation with complex quaternions and octonions. The result describes a set of fermion fields with reminiscent properties of one standard model particle generation, exhibiting U(1) electromagnetism, SU(2) flavor and SU(3) color like symmetries, remarkably SU(2) induces frame fields, though further explorations are needed.

Duality theory for Clifford tensor powers

Abstract:The representation theory of the Clifford group is playing an increasingly prominent role in quantum information theory, including in such diverse use cases as the construction of protocols for quantum system certification, quantum simulation, and quantum cryptography. In these applications, the tensor powers of the defining representation seem particularly important. The representation theory of these tensor powers is understood in two regimes. 1. For odd qudits in the case where the power t is not larger than the number of systems n: Here, a duality theory between the Clifford group and certain discrete orthogonal groups can be used to make fairly explicit statements about the occurring irreps (this theory is related to Howe duality and the eta-correspondence). 2. For qubits: Tensor powers up to t=4 have been analyzed on a case-by-case basis. In this paper, we provide a unified framework for the duality approach that also covers qubit systems. To this end, we translate the notion of rank of symplectic representations to representations of the qubit Clifford group, and generalize the eta correspondence between symplectic and orthogonal groups to a correspondence between the Clifford and certain orthogonal-stochastic groups. As a sample application, we provide a protocol to efficiently implement the complex conjugate of a black-box Clifford unitary evolution.

Sixteen-dimensional Sedenion-like Associative Algebra

Abstract:In this article, we construct a $16$-dimensional sedenion-like associative algebra, which is an even subalgebra of $2^5$-dimensional Clifford algebra $Cl_{5,0}$. We define the norm on sedenion-like algebra and show that its sixteen-dimensional elements preserves the norm relation $\lVert ST \rVert=\lVert S \rVert \lVert T \rVert$ under the condition $S_rS_d^\dagger + S_r^\dagger S_d=0$, where $S_r,~S_d$ denote the real and dual part of an octonion-like number $S$ respectively and $S^\dagger$ is the transpose of $S$. The elements of this sedenion-like algebra can be written as dual octonion like numbers called split bioctonion-like algebra and $S S^\dagger$ is commutative [i.e. $S S^\dagger=S^\dagger S $ and $(S S^\dagger) T=T(S S^\dagger )$], for any two octonion-like/sedenion-like numbers $S$ and $T$. We define the operations coproduct $\bigtriangleup$, counit $\epsilon $ and antipode $S$ on octonion-like/sedenion-like algebra to construct the Hopf algebra structure on it. We also show that $8$-dimensional octonion-like associative seminormed division algebra is a $\mathbb{Z}_2^4/2$-graded quasialgebra and $16$ dimensional sedenion-like algebra is a $\mathbb{Z}_2^5/2$-graded quasialgebra.

Abstract:In this article, the structure of the Clifford-Weyl superalgebras and their associated Lie superalgebras will be investigated. These superalgebras have a natural supersymmetric inner product which is invariant under their Lie superalgebra structures. The Clifford-Weyl superalgebras can be realized as tensor product of the algebra of alternating and symmetric tensors respectively, on the even and odd parts of their underlying superspace. For Physical applications in elementary particles, we add star structures to these algebras and investigate the basic relations. Ortho-symplectic Lie algebras are naturally present in these algebras and their representations on these algebras can be described easily.

Abstract:Real Clifford algebras play a fundamental role in the eight real Altland-Zirnbauer symmetry classes and the classification tables of topological phases. Here, we present another elegant realization of real Clifford algebras in the d-dimensional spinless rectangular lattices with pi flux per plaquette. Due to the T-invariant flux configuration, real Clifford algebras are realized as projective symmetry algebras of lattice symmetries. Remarkably, d mod 8 exactly corresponds to the eight Morita equivalence classes of real Clifford algebras with eightfold Bott periodicity, resembling the eight real Altland-Zirnbauer classes. The representation theory of Clifford algebras determines the degree of degeneracy of band structures, both at generic k points and at high-symmetry points of the Brillouin zone. Particularly, we demonstrate that the large degeneracy at high-symmetry points offers a rich resource for forming topological states by various dimerization patterns, including a three-dimensional (3D) higher-order semimetal state with double-charged bulk nodal loops and hinge modes, a 4D nodal surface semimetal with 3D surface solid-ball zero modes, and 4D Mobius topological insulators with an eightfold surface nodal point or a fourfold surface nodal ring. Our theory can be experimentally realized in artificial crystals by their engineerable Z2 gauge fields and capability to simulate higher-dimensional systems.
A minimal and non-alternative realisation of the Cayley plane

Abstract:The compact 16-dimensional Moufang plane, also known as the Cayley plane, has traditionally been defined through the lens of octonionic geometry. In this study, we present a novel approach, demonstrating that the Cayley plane can be defined in an equally clean, straightforward and more economic way using two different division and composition algebras: the paraoctonions and the Okubo algebra. The result is quite surprising since paraoctonions and Okubo algebra possess a weaker algebraic structure than the octonions, since they are non-alternative and do not uphold the Moufang identities. Intriguingly, the real Okubo algebra has $\text{SU}\left(3\right)$ as automorphism group, which is a classical Lie group, while octonions and paraoctonions have an exceptional Lie group of type $\text{G}_{2}$. This is remarkable, given that the projective plane defined over the real Okubo algebra is nevertheless isomorphic and isometric to the octonionic projective plane which is at the very heart of the geometric realisations of all types of exceptional Lie groups. Despite its historical ties with octonionic geometry, our research underscores the real Okubo algebra as the weakest algebraic structure allowing the definition of the compact 16-dimensional Moufang plane.

Abstract:I show how the isomorphism between the Lie groups of types $B_2$ and $C_2$ leads to a faithful action of the Clifford algebra $\mathcal C\ell(3,2)$ on the phase space of 2-dimensional dynamics, and hence to a mapping from Dirac spinors modulo scalars into this same phase space. Extending to the phase space of 3-dimensional dynamics allows one to embed all the gauge groups of the Standard Model as well, and hence unify the electro-weak and strong forces into a single algebraic structure, identified as the gauge group of Hamiltonian dynamics. The gauge group transforms between phase space coordinates appropriate for arbitrary observers, and therefore shows how the apparently arbitrary parameters of the Standard Model transform between mutually accelerating observers. In particular, it is possible to calculate the transformation between an inertial frame and the laboratory frame, in order to explain how macroscopic laboratory mechanics emerges from quantum mechanics, and to show how to write down a quantum theory of gravity that is consistent with quantum mechanics, but is not consistent with General Relativity.

Abstract:The known equivalence of 8-dimensional chiral spinors and vectors, also referred to as triality, is discussed for (4+4)-space. Split octonionic representation of SO(4,4) and Spin(4,4) groups and the trilinear invariant form are explicitly written and compared with Clifford algebraic matrix representation. It is noted that the complete algebra of split octonionic basis units can be recovered from the Moufang and Malcev relations for the three vector-like elements. Lagrangians on split octonionic fields that generalize Dirac and Maxwell systems are constructed using group invariant forms. It is shown that corresponding equations are related to split octonionic analyticity conditions.

Abstract:For an arbitrary octonion algebra, we determine all subalgebras. It turns out that every subalgebra of dimension less than four is associative, while every subalgebra of dimension greater than four is not associative. In any split octonion algebra, there are both associative and non-associative subalgebras of dimension four. Except for one-dimensional subalgebras spanned by idempotents, any two isomorphic subalgebras are in the same orbit under automorphisms.
